In another sport, my oldest picked up his official’s license his Senior year in HS to earn a few extra bucks. His first games were a pair of 5th and 6th grade games. Going into that game, he had been selected as a HS All-American coming out of his Jr. Year. He ended up leading the State in scoring that same year and then went on to a College playing career followed by coaching. I watched the game (since it was his first) and was stunned at the abuse hurled at him and the other official (there was one particular toad-like dad just in front of me sprawled in a lawn chair I wanted to step on). Even then, one of the coaches yelled and screamed at them the whole game....this coach was and still is a HS Coach, btw. Again, we are talking a 5th and 6th grade game. Following the game, my son gets home and tells his Mom not to bother washing his stripes. He told her, “I’m done”. He never officiated another game. For the record, he’s no shrinking violet. He was a tough, bruising player in HS and college. Equally tough businessman these days.4 points

It took 4 weeks for the truth to come out.... Boonville and Lincoln were way overrated. Is Mt.Vernon the 2nd best team in the Big 8?3 points

If anybody remembers last years Ole Miss V Eastbrook game came down to a touchdown pass as time ran out to avoid going to Overtime. And that was against the best team Ole Miss ever had last year.... Now we are back to the best team Ole Miss ever had this year, not sure how that seems to get labeled every year, but that's just how they do in Gas City I guess. Yes, Ole Miss is in the top 10 in 4A, but who have they really played? This ranking is based solely on last years success not by the quality of victories this season for sure. But tonight, finally a quality opponent, The Mighty Eastbrook Panthers. Out to prove a point that having quality out of conference opponents have made them a stronger team. And if anybody will learn and excel from losses it is Coach Adamson and his staff. Motivation? Get that can back to it's home, CIC title(most likely) and one step closer to Grant 4 champs! As to why the chatter on here has been so quiet? My guess is that everybody in Gas City is Cleaning out the Kmart and getting it ready for the Archery range, players are huddled up around the Milk can saying their goodbyes and Upland and surrounding areas are shining up the Cow Bells to bring the noise tonight... And the players, Making room for "Frank" to come back home for the season! To everybody going tonight, Have fun, be safe go early and hit Ivanhoe's, or enjoy a ribeye sandwich fresh off the grill at the field. It is going to be an electric night! Enjoy and GO PANTHERS!!!3 points

The banter is alive and well in the HNAC. When are you guys letting John Glenn back in the conference. Asking for a friend. NIC forum is quite boring lol3 points

So now since they actually had a opponent and didn't score 50+... now they had a bad game🙄🤔🤔2 points

Eastbrook reaping the rewards for their schedule. No doubt in my mind the Marion/Delta games toughened this young group up and put them in a position tonight they probably would not have been in if they had not challenged themselves early. Congrats to the players on this win. Very impressed.2 points

Sad..... Similar thing happened to my kid. She did it for cash in college. Upon landing a decent paying gig out of college, she told me "you know what the best part of this is?" "I'll never have to umpire again." One of the toughest female athletes I've ever been around. Was offered a college umpiring gig her second year of umpiring in college. And idiot youth coaches ran her off. And I assure you she's forgot more about the game than they collectively will ever know. What these idiots don't understand, it's the game that suffers. Hopefully she finds her way into coaching, she's had numerous offers, but hasn't found the right situation yet. My point all along has been the game was really good to her, she needs to give back.1 point

Well - that is one way to look at it, I suppose. My take was that it was not a lack of effort, but more of how good Chatard was last year. There was talk that the rain impacted the outcome and I would agree. If the rain was not there last year, then I suspect Chatard would have won by a couple TD's...at least. This is a new year. I expect a great match up and great effort from both teams. Should be a close one, but I'm a homer - so I predict Chatard to be victorious and make it 2 in a row1 point

Innovations in Education: Making Charter School Facilities More Affordable: State-driven Policy Approaches: https://www2.ed.gov/admins/comm/choice/charterfacilities/report_pg18.html In pursuit of the ultimate goal, yes. Go whine about it on your blog, socialist pig.1 point

I am willing to take this action. You didn't say who, and there could be a larger person in a black ski mask carrying a bag of wagon masters that could take him down. I would also venture to say that this would be due to him sitting out to get healthy.1 point

5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT CHARTER SCHOOL FACILITIES: https://www.publiccharters.org/latest-news/2018/09/18/5-things-know-about-charter-school-facilities1 point

So if you don't believe a long time, well known, and powerful government school superintendent like Mr. Killion holds significant sway over whoever is sitting on the WL government school board then you are more naive concerning power and politics than I thought.1 point
-
No. If the $1 gets the Charter schools "in the door" and parents see them as ultimately superior to traditional government schools, then the traditional government schools will eventually wither away and die, then the charter schools will be shown up by the 100% private/parochial schools, then the ultimate goals of getting government out of the K-12 education business altogether can be achieved.1 point
-
And Mr. Killion wants to keep it that way, primarily to keep potential Charter schools out of the WL government school district. Hence his desire to overturn the law.1 point

“The last thing we want them to do is to sit on an unused building It's being used for the next 15 months and WLS is being compensated 1.5 million. I have no idea if that money can be used for teacher salaries or not. publicly paid classrooms in play for public education, in this case public charter schools created under Indiana law as alternatives to traditional public schools. There is no law that says a school can't rent their class space for $1 a year or whatever. In fact I have seen this happen in my local school district. “It is taking the building that was built in the interest of the community to serve students, and say ‘X’ school district says it doesn’t want to use it anymore, it’s made available to ‘Y’ public school that can use it for the purposes of educating children in that same community.” I'm not sure how much more plainly it can be stated: NO ONE CONTACTED WLS about renting the building. No downtrodden kid is being forced into the government schools of WLS. Killion said the school district doesn’t have specific plans for Happy Hollow once the city moves back to Morton Community Center. Perhaps a charter school will contact them? NO ONE HAS SAID THAT!1 point

If you open the link in Incognito mode in Chrome you can read the full article.1 point
-
Yes, I did read the article. Did you? FTA: So Mr. Killion would rather keep the public Happy Hollow building unused than allow a Charter school to use it, as allowed by current state law. This, IMHO, is a blatant attempt to reduce school choice within the West Lafayette Government School Corporation geographical area.1 point
-
I’ll just add that to the growing list of names I’m known by on this Forum.1 point
-
I said it was a stupid law. And you may have missed the part of the article where WL Schools have sued the state over it. In fact it was the title of the OP that YOU made. This is not a quality of education thread, put the goal line back where it was. Reducing school choice, did you read the article? Mr. Killion and I'm assuming the school board are acting on behalf of the WL school taxpayers. I'm sure the school board is elected, so there is accountability to the locals.1 point

Francis is so far behind, he's grasping at straws to keep his hopes alive and remain relevant. Unfortunately he's hitched his wagon to the wrong pony. He seems to think if he yells louder, says naughty words, he'll get some traction. I think he's greatly overestimated the population's zeal for further limiting their rights. The bottom line, as the article points out, they have no idea where these guns are, who owns them, and will have more difficulty than they know finding police officers who will break their oath to go confiscate these newly illegal guns.1 point

I fail to see how this is exploitation by for-profit charter schools. It was the lawmakers supposed mistake, not the for-profit charter schools. Does the parent really care if a charter school is for-profit or not if it provides the quality education the parent seeks for his child? Again, this is just a maneuver by Mr. Killion to reduce school choice within the geographical boundaries of the West Lafayette Government School Corporation. It is clear from his past rhetoric the Mr. Killion hates charter schools and what they represent, real parent choice of where their taxpayer funds go.1 point
-
I never said they were all for profit. But we both know there are for profit charters exploiting this stupid law.1 point
-
So all Charter schools are for-profit enterprises? You sure about that? And what exactly is "fair market" about a building paid for by public funds in the first place?1 point
-
I ain't had no college learning or anything, but $1,500,000>$2 Seems like a better use of the facility for the next year and a quarter. While the local taxpayers are on the hook either way, WL Schools come out to the good. And they eliminate the opportunity for a for profit enterprise to shaft the local taxpayers by not paying a fair market lease.1 point

Good article in JCOnline spotlighting LCC's Daniel Roach: https://www.jconline.com/story/sports/2019/09/11/daniel-roach-central-catholics-iron-man/2283193001/ ... some free access, but behind a paywall after a few free accesses of JCOnline I have a video of him making a pick on a trips right formation back when he was in 3rd grade ... it made one of the finalist slots in the Dick's Sporting Goods contest that year for sports videos. Really good field sense even all the way back then .1 point

That makes a lot of sense to me. I wonder why North Vermillion wasn't concerned with having to potentially play Linton twice in the same season? Although, now that I think about it, the WRC teams face the possibility of having to play twice every year. Are the Wolfs going to drop out of the WRC to avoid that scenario?1 point

Stinky, Stink, Stink 1.2.3. Here are some facts coming from STC..... 1) BiG ReD & BlAcK will cover the spread. Even the 36" grass won't slow Trojanville down. The Trojans dismal offense will get going. Jo Joes will have issues all over the field. Take the chalk......Trojans -34.5 2) Boom Boyz / River Rats / KFI - Does anyone else have a first 4 games like KFI (Owl City 3-0, Cub Poo 0-3, Casket Nation 1-2, Spartan Town 0-3) No wonder Boom Boys is excited. But keep it all is perspective....KFI has also lost those games before. KFI -35 cause Boom Boy will leave his starting QB in when up 35 to still sling it. Can someone from Casket Nation confirm? River Rats still had their starting QB in up 35 and still throwing? Let me guess...Old chip off the block "not my job to stop my offense" 3) Casket Nation will get back on track. Lions just don't have the fire power to keep up with that new revamped Dawg Pound offense. But that defense, they better get some more bite or maybe, just maybe the Lions keep it close. Taking the Lions and the points. LIons +13.5 4) Does the STC Crew hit up Stories before the game. Not even a question. My man Don always takes care of the crew I also heard that the team bus has ordered 89 tenderloins for after the game. Best game in the conference tonight. Tigers -.51 point

HHC Pick 'Em Standings: 1. @boilerfan87 19/20 (.950) 2. @Frozen Tundra 17/20 (.850) 3. @mamasa 8/12 (.667) 4. @starbacker 4/7 (.571) Week 4 Predictions: Jeffersonville (1-2, 1-0 HHC) at Columbus East (1-2, 0-0 HHC): The Red Devils seem to be acclimating to the new coach quicker than I thought they would. A 32-13 win against rival New Albany is quite impressive. Does this mean they're a top-half HHC team? Time will tell. However, they're playing an Olympian team coming off an impressive performance against one of the top teams in the country. East has won 15 straight against Jeff and I think that streak continues. East wins comfortably. Madison (0-3, 0-1 HHC) at Bedford North Lawrence (1-2, 1-0 HHC): The Stars found the offense last week when they wiped the floor (or grass) with Jennings County. They should be able to find the offense again this week as the Cubs have given up 117 points so far this season. BNL wins by at least four touchdowns. New Albany (1-2, 0-1 HHC) at Floyd Central (2-1, 0-0 HHC): It's really weird seeing the Highlanders open up their HHC schedule with the Bulldogs when they've closed the regular season with them every year since 1985. Nevertheless, this is a good rivalry with Floyd Central having won the last four games in the series and taking a 27-23 lead. I made the mistake of picking against FC last week. I think they're the better team here. Floyd Central wins. Seymour (3-0, 1-0 HHC) at Jennings County (1-2, 0-1 HHC): So we go from a good, tight rivalry to a rivalry that is anything but tight. The Owls hold the 43-10 advantage in this series and have won the last four (all by double digits). The Panthers have shown they can put up points as they've scored 91 thus far (second-most in the HHC behind Seymour's 107). However, the Panthers have given up the most points at 130 while Seymour has given up the least at 54. Like BNL, Seymour gets to slaughter one of the two teams from the Railroad Rivalry for a second week in a row. The Owls get the blowout win.1 point
