DT for the life of me I just don’t understand your rationale and lack of common sense, let alone the way you unintentionally contradict yourself. For nearly two years you’ve been crowing about Center Grove and Carmel leaving the decaying MIC to join the rapidly growing suburban conference HCC, to on the eve of yet another all-MIC 6A finals do a complete 180 and advocate two declining township schools leave their geographical roots to join some budding conference? What gives?5 points

Well to start, some parents believe in a Faith based education.3 points

Coach Wright was outvoted and the rest of Sheridan's Varsity coaches put up a stand and that led to them getting out of the Hoosier and into the Heartland. It was not a football decision I can 100% promise you that.3 points

“Ouch!” Congrats to the Tigers! Incredible season and well deserved 4A Championship. You guys will ALWAYS be the first from 3A to have done it.3 points

If private isn’t an advantage why would parents sacrifice to send their kids there?2 points
-
This is the "advantage". The P/P schools that win big are in the states most populated cities: Indy, Lafayette, Evansville, Ft Wayne...... It doesn't guarantee you'll win, but the resources are there, that draw the families.2 points
-
Open enrollment changed the game, right on the money @Coach Nowlin Really the only (non location) advantage a private school COULD possibly have anymore is if the church affiliated with the school were helping them out behind the scenes....BUT this doesn't really happen. Especially in this day and age, nothing is a secret. Even if they wanted to "cheat" or "have advantages" or whatever you wanna whine about, it wouldn't go unnoticed. The fact is people don't like watching the Yankees, win the title. It can feel a little like that when you see an LCC or a Chatard win again. But constantly accusing them of cheating is just robbing the kids of the credit they deserve. Football is still played on the same field with the same rules.2 points

Public School can also accept out of boundary students if Family pays tuition. Most Public schools are open I believe. So is it really an advantage?2 points

You don't think so? I've been a janitor at Carmel. I cleaned Dick Dullaghan's office and was privy to his halftime talks when he coached there. He treated the janitors with respect, unlike you.2 points

I think it's about this simple. If you're going to private school, it's much more likely that you have a parent that cares about you enough to make you and your education a priority. Are there any private schools anyone knows of that have a program to send home food with some students on weekends because they know those kids are usually only fed on free/reduced lunch programs at school. Parents that don't care enough to get them to school consistently or in condition to learn anything (aside from not being fed, also not coming to school well rested or with their personal hygiene attended to). Some of these kids aren't coming to school with a chance to accomplish much of anything, let alone win state titles in various athletic events. Bottom line is that, on-average, the fact that a parent is willing to put their resources into sending their kid to a private school, whatever their reasons are, sadly means they have an advantage that a significant number of kids attending many public schools don't.1 point

It was literally a contingency of my wife’s acceptance of my marriage proposal some 32 years ago.....along with having to ask her dad. It was not something I had even considered at the time but was critical to her. As it turned out, it has become a center point of our lives in every possible way. A very happy accident for me. Sports was never, ever a consideration.1 point
-
Pretty simple really. Socioeconomic factors. Walk down the hallways at a place like Chatard and/or Memorial or any P/P, then walk down the halls of a public school with a high free/reduced and other factors that may not be ideal for extra-curricular participation.1 point
-
I think the biggest advantage comes from being able to control enrollment and not having your hallways filled with kids who don't participate in extra-curriculars.1 point
-
Its a joke. I know it may be hard to understand that I am not that upset about losing since I am just a supporter. Feel sorry for the kids but they have a bright future ahead.1 point
-
I wouldn’t call it cheating. It’s an advantage though. Private school parents do make a sacrifice, it’s a different level of commitment. That translates down through the kids. Not everyone is in a position to make that sacrifice. Also would all public school kids qualify academically? Special needs kids? These all would count towards enrollment at public schools.1 point
-
Private schools can recruit kids to go to school there for sports. They also don’t require a certain zone to live in for kids that want to go there, ANYBODY can go there if they wanted to.1 point

I will also say, having grown up in Ohio and been in Indiana for 20 years, the gap is definitely shrinking between Ohio and Indiana high school football.1 point

It was many, many years ago. I know the comment was just made originally in an attempt at an insult, but there's really never a reason to insult a janitor in any event. I agree. And my perspective came from being his janitor. Same goes for all the other coaches and administrators at Carmel in 1973-74. It was a great job for a high school kid from a different school.1 point

Was just thinking the same thing. Congratulations Memorial on another great season! Very impressive considering the talent that graduated last year. The Combs boys have been a pleasure to watch over the past few years (with the exception of one game...). I love the way they play the game. Are there any more Combs coming through the pipeline?1 point

Really have to respect what Memorial has done, though.....P/P or otherwise. It seems they literally cobbled together a State Championship run from play to play starting the first Friday in Sectionals. Amazing stuff. I cannot give them enough credit.1 point

I’m still hoping you can find those toilet seat horseshoes from back in the day (it’s been 9 years, Bro....damn.......unbelievable.) Sadly, John Deere Grandma and Grandpa have passed since then. Hell.........not so sure about myself these days.1 point

Sorry about the robbery, but that game brought me to the GID. Took me awhile to get acclimated.1 point

Not as long as it might appear perhaps a half hour to run through all those teams ... also mainly because I'm not as familiar with the schools in the Southern part of the state like North Vermillion and West Washington outside of specific seasons. The biggest thing slowing me down is that I type with four fingers and don't know the home keys. In reality, knowing the history makes the idea/premise fairly easy to have figured out and John Harrell's site makes it a breeze to find data to support/refute things that tend to be made with more emotional appeal. The way he has things organized makes it even easier to have looked for this data ... at least back to 1994 which gives us a couple decades plus of points. This is actually something that was already on my radar as I had a discussion with someone last week who said that LCC was "picking on" county schools and he specifically named Lewis Cass and Pioneer. As I pointed out, Pioneer easily holds its own against LCC with Pioneer not only leading the series, but leading the tourney series, and also having won the last three contests and dealing LCC one of its biggest defeats 70-7. In the case of Cass, Cass is 0-2 against LCC, but in the same years that LCC beat Cass, Pioneer also beat Cass. Matter of fact, I believe, in a quick look on Harrell's site, that Pioneer leads the series with Cass 7-6 although they've not met in tourney play. Seriously, I'm just a guy in the stands who enjoys an analytical and strategic approach to the game/sport. Been doing it for many years ... all the way back when I was coaching youth baseball in college in the late-1980s and early 1990s. As for LCC incorporating into their sports programs, I have no idea, but I do know that one of my project teams at Purdue will be doing a presentation on it this week and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it.1 point

The data suggests.... Pioneer would be that school not named Sheridan had they taken the final step to join the Hoosier Conf.....1 point

Sorry, man. I was in a mood yesterday. I did set you up pretty well.1 point

I don't think EM is going to have any trouble competing in 5A. Which team in S15 or S16 could beat EM? New Pal will likely move up so if EM wins the regional then they'll get Cathedral or something equivalent in semi-state. We played them competitively this year so EM probably could have as well. Winning a regional and being competitive in semi-state is pertty good for playing up 2 classes. Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but I don't forsee them being outmatched by any means.1 point

No thanks to the spread. I don't care about the number of stars our kids get. Not sure we've ever had a 4-star recruit but I love our kids anyway.1 point

Carmel and CG did not fill up Lucas Oil Stadium. You would expect the 2 largest schools in the tournament to fill the entire stadium. Is it time for these schools to make a jump the the HCC?1 point

I love me some Ralph, and I love NP, but a regional win next year will be tough. (I know you are reading this Kyle, prove me wrong!)1 point

After good nights sleep and time to reflect: 1) Bishop Chatard was better than advertised!! Big, strong and fast!! Definitely the best team at LOS!! Great season, much respect, DESERVING state champs!! Now go win at least a regional in 2020!!! 😁 2) HH Patriots have zero to hang there head about!! Amazing group of young men who played their tails off to the last whistle!! It was truly an honor watching them play and seeing them bring a community together like they did!! Outstanding job Patriots, great season!! 3) Patriot Nation!!! Wow, what an amazing fan base!! The amount of support you showed for this team, the coaches and the school was simply amazing!! It truly shows what a special community we live in and are fortunate enough to raise kids in!! Awesome! It may not have been the ending we’d hoped for in Lincoln City but the ride and accomplishments were simply amazing! Thanks Patriots!! Congrats Chatard!1 point

Being a janitor at Carmel doesn’t make you very reliable. Especially when you sight wiki.1 point

At least CG doesn’t need to pay athletes outside of the country to come here to play sports 🤭1 point

This won’t matter though since the HCC is taking over as the best conference. Should be much more competitive this year...1 point
