  2. What is the point of that statement? And no, I didn't know (personally) that Southridge has a 2A enrollment. Is Southridge in the 3A tournament? Why, yes they are. Doesn't matter if they have a 1A enrollment. I don't keep track of 320 teams enrollments. But if they are in 3A, why do I need to say they have a 2A enrollment? The bottom line is they are playing in 3A. Dude, what exactly is it that you want???

  3. not even close to what kids feel They want to play, they do not care the level. They enjoy being part of a team, other amazing factors that go into this great game. We have had many seniors who are just great kids, but not very good football players, however, they have a blast, great teammates and play the game as hard as they can, even on JV. But sometimes with our roster, those SR allow us to get a 3rd game in for the week with our "C" team playrs. I know the person started the thread is more looking at it from huge school perspective.

  4. That's pretty crappy to say DT. One of the kids that played JV at Winamac In 2017 is now defending yours and my freedom in the military. That one that played this past year is going to college to be a cop. All four of the kids that played JV here are outstanding young men. If you have a daughter, they are the type of boys you would want her to date And marry.

  6. How can so many people be so wrong on an opinion to a simple question. I know how a senior can still play football and learn some serious life lessons. The is Unified Flag Football in Indiana. It give students who would never play high school sports a chance to say I played for Local Town High School. You learn about people different from you, how to work together to make a team. Who knows, they may become your best friends. Unified Sports is going to grow and grow. Maybe kids need to look at how they can make a contribution to their school.

  9. 89, I understand the frustration with the result last week but Griffith is a bigger school that has played all year. Whiting is certainly shorthanded....some may not have come out this year...and in their first game, the Oilers didnt look good against a 4A school. I actually liked some of the offensive plays they executed without having a scrimmage. I promise you that Whiting will look better the next two weeks against Boone Grove and Bishop Noll. Lets be real. As long as Andrean is 2A, public school Northwest Indiana 2As like Whiting will have a short post-season. But Andrean wont always be 2A You speak of coach Cain. Down in Lowell, as I know you know. Many were unhappy with Keith Kilmer the first few years after he replaced Kirk Kennedy Lowell was 22-18 Kilmer's first four years. Now, Kilmer is 89-38 with 5 sectional trophies. With the closing of nearby Clark, the future is promising for Whiting, right?. Give coach Jennings a chance.

  10. I’m really enjoying your content and how you tell it how it is. My dad a Vietnam vet always told me growing you want to get good grades and go to college, you don’t want any part of the military.

  11. Where do you coach/teach? Then, Shut The Front Door, please. It's drafty in here.

  12. And we have a new leader in the clubhouse for “Most cliches in a single post.” 😄😅

  13. Andrean is the highest ranked 2A team per polls and Sagarin. Until they are beaten, they are the team to beat in 2A.

  14. Like I said earlier, it's about the kids, not winning or losing, especially this year.

  15. Did you play? If so, think back to your last game. When it finished, what would you have done to get just one more week of practice with those guys, one more week of locker room shenanigans, one more game? It’s a shame you can’t see how important even this abbreviated season is to those kids.

  16. 1A South Adams is the team to beat IMO.

  17. We are not talking about post season play here, of course play off games mean more when they might be the last game you ever play. Some believe there is no relevance to regular season games unless there is a playoff qualification system, to each their own, but even if one doesn't care about conference implications...down here in SWI every Friday is the superbowl. I am sorry if some parts of the state don't get to experience that. There is nothing you could have done last night in SWI with regard to qualification to change last nights Castle vs Jasper or Memorial vs North or even Gibson Southern vs Princeton. All of these games had specific undertones, nuances, sub plots and meanings...nothing about qualification could have impacted that. Make your blow-out arguments and arguments regarding impending qualification after seeding begins....but I will never buy the BS about our games needing some sort of adrenaline boost. It's just not true.

  18. The Whiting school board foolishly decided to follow Hammond as only the second school district in the state to cancel all fall sports. You can’t expect much or be too critical of your Oilers when it was a decision by the top to start their season 3 months late.

  19. I guess the question is.... do you think being critical of teenagers and their coaches on a forum is your responsibility ? Are you really preparing them for life? Isn’t that their family and coaches role?

  20. Yes because there's been SO many "huge outbreaks" of the common cold Covid with football teams all over the state since August. There's been no "huge outbreak" and there will be no "huge outbreak" on any team, whether they travel 4 miles to play a game or 3 hours.

  21. Right? The 3 kids I mentioned character wise are on par with Jack Kiser.

  22. One of the seniors that graduated in 2018 rode his bike 6 miles one way to practice every single day during the summer his jr and sr year, never missed a single summer practice or weight lifting session while working his jr and senior year. He bought his own vehicle...paid for his cell phone, insurance and gas...had an absolutely terrible home life, his father is currently in michigan city, living there not because he wants to...if you catch my drift. He was a manager in basketball and played JV baseball too. He rarely played. He's a character kid... The sports teams have him a sense of family that he was missing. The boy that joined the military played JV as a jr and a sr. He started the two sectional games winamac had that year due to injury. Him and the kid above coming out their senior year ALLOWED winamac to have a junior varsity team.. so honestly their selflessness allowed underclassmen to get reps. He also got accepted into purdue, ball state and so on. He chose to join the military cause that was his dream due to having other relatives In it + the free college. The 3rd kid never missed a single morning basketball work out or practice in his 4 years, is an outstanding young man. He came out his senior year to help with numbers and helped winamac have atleast 2 jv games last year. This website is to promote high school kids. You routinely do not .. your dumb contraction posts, you insulting kids by saying they have no pride. You are a grown a** man. Do you not have any pride in yourself? Cause if you did. You wouldn't spend 75 percent of the time insulting kids on here.

  23. Warren would smoke them. Michigan City is an average 5a team at best... far from a contender. Their toughest opponent of the year is Chesterton and they lost to them. For the record i hate how dominant the Indy schools are but come on let’s be real. Michigan City lost to Chesterton by 8, lost to Laporte by 1 and beat an awful Portage team 28-7. Warren is fielding one of its worst teams of the last 20 years and they would have their way with the Wolves. It would be ugly and I really hope this doesn’t happen or some Michigan City players are going to get hurt

  26. Correct. The rationale behind the rule is that making the head coach the fall guy is the best way to insure that the restricted area is clear while the ball is alive, which is potentially a real safety issue.

  27. In my 65 years of watching Cathedral football and basketball, I've never seen a senior play JV. Whether there's a rule or not, I guess I've never cared.

  28. NN vs Wheeler by far the most exciting matchup in week 1. I will take my Bombers to make the finals. Take our shot at the 59ers. But I haven't picked against the Bombers in 17 years, this year will be no different. 😄

  29. Kids lives are the big picture. Football is ultimately just a game. Developing quality human beings is the ultimate goal, not winning or losing. They're not professionals.

  31. There's a few teams in Indiana playing up based on enrollment (Ev. Memorial, Columbus East, New Palestine, Pioneer, Indy Cathedral, etc.) Cathedral was playing up 2 classes for a bit. Southridge only beat 2A Tell City 14-12, so it might be good for Southridge that they're up in 3A and don't have to play them again in a sectional game. It also might be good for them that Memorial had to bump up to 4A instead of 3A. 2A Mater Dei played two 5A ranked teams this year and lost to one by 3 points and beat the other by 14. What does that mean? If Linton, MD, or another team beats Tell City what would that mean?? Congrats to Southridge on their success. The reward is they are now 3A. They can either continue to win at 3A or go back to 2A.

  32. Massey which I believe to be the best, if you want to factor in out-of-state competition, has Center Grove as a HUGE favorite, a 72-percent win rate and 33-21 score prediction. I'm on the record as favoring Cathedral. And this is why we settle it on the field.

  33. Seeding DOES NOT have to equal a “qualification”’format!!! Seeding would just make for a better tourney format- plain and simple. And yes, it will at least give SOME meaning to the regular season. “Oh- there is going to be a bunch of first round blowouts between the 1v8 and 2v7” So what?? There are blowouts every week. You’d still have PLENTY of competitive match-ups round one
    1 point
  34. You do realize that Southridge is still 2A by enrollment, correct??
    1 point
  35. Assuming all goes as planned, round 2 should have a couple of good games as well. North Knox/Forest Park winner vs. Mater Dei and North Posey vs. Tell City should be decent games. I would expect the final to be a battle also.

  37. It is a shameful comment from the peanut gallery. Hence, my "disdain" for the lack of judgment when you decided to hit 'send' or "reply" Even in defeat, I am sure the Whiting Football community was thrilled to just have an opportunity to play, final score is distant at this point, especially for those Seniors who went 3 months thinking that their careers were over for H.S. and now you had what, 2 maybe 3 weeks to get it back up and running while other schoolos have been going uninteruppted for 2 full months. So, yes, you making a post of that nature was shameful from a supposed "supporter" of their alma mater, who without having to look it up probably couldn't tell you many facts about the current make up of the 2020 Oilers. But yes, come on here and post "whiting should of never started season" SMH Exacty

  38. If you are asking about the IHSAA by-laws then nothing has changed in the last 27 years. Seniors are allowed to play JV.
    1 point
  39. To me, it all depends on that Seniors development as a football player. If a Senior has been with the team and has no chance of starting on Varsity, then sure. They can play JV, but it a Senior has anything to do with Varsity, even if its special teams, then no, I dont believe a Sr should be playing JV.

  40. I thought I could let this go. But I opened the can of worms, so it's my fault. I just don't believe in science, right? There is no evidence supporting my viewpoints. There's no scientific basis for lowering isolation time to 7 days instead of 14. That crazy French government must not believe in science either. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(20)30235-8/fulltext The above is a commentary, so of course it's not peer-reviewed, but I do want to quote one part of it: Feel free to read the science in those peer-reviewed studies cited in that paragraph. There are plenty more out there stating basically if you don't get it within 7 days and you if you do have SARS-COV2 you won't transmit it to others after 7 days, absent a fever. I do agree that close contacts should be tested 5 days after exposure, because that is the mean & median incubation period. You recommend it as a way to game the system... i.e. they won't get contact traced again. That isn't based on science, that's based on guessing the outcome of throwing a loaded die. And don't worry, those students will have antibodies...based on science. I also got my flu shot this week. Because based on statistical evidence, it's deadlier to me and every member of my household. Yay, science! Just because my opinion is different than yours doesn't make it unintelligent or uninformed.

  43. Well if the games are open to the public and covered by media I don’t see any reason why not. Also coaches salaries paid by tax dollars so another reason to be critical.

  44. Man, who would do this? Not a Cathedral thing. If we cared about injury or resting kids, we’d never schedule any of these teams. We want the best. Always. Look at our wrestling or girl’s volleyball schedules if you beed clarity.

  45. Won multiple state titles? No pressure. Ranked number one in the state? Cakewalk. Nationally ranked? Not even breaking a sweat. Mentioned in an award winning article on the universally acclaimed Gridiron Digest High School Football Forum? Nobody can live up to those expectations.
