I believe this is true and a significant reason why Triton moved to the HNAC in the first place. Triton never beat Jimtown in all the NSC years. I think there were only 3-4 wins over Bremen. Glenn had up and down years, so there was some success with them at times. But not much in the last 10 or so years of the NSC. Same for New Prairie. They got a lot better as they grew in enrollment and the last few years of games were a waste of time for both teams. Honestly losing to Pioneer by 50 is an easier pill to swallow than losing to NP or Jimtown by the same scores. Pioneer is a similar sized school and you know they've gotten where they are by hard work and commitment. You respect that from a school your own size. But losing to schools twice your size all the time just gets old over time. The HNAC definitely provides a platform to compete with similar-sized schools on a more level playing field. And the quality of play is outstanding for a small school conference. I'm very happy we made the move.

As explained to me, the "neutrality" requirement comes from the fact that the IHSAA puts on the tournament and is paying the host school for the various integral workers - clock, PA, etc. All I know is if Northview's PA guy throws out a Ric Flair, then I'm going to my van for my tiger, Antonio.

I'm pretty sure this rule came about when @Donnie Bakerbrought his dog to one of the Parke Heritage games and told them it was a mascot woof and not a dog. I don't think they bought though. I think he needed something a little bigger.

Okay, first, I'll put it out there. This is "kind" of a legit game....despite Chatard being a huge underdog (and I think the only distant threat to Roncalli...outside of East Central). I was reluctant to post it because I generally refuse to call attention to my team of favor (Sorry, Chatard folks are just not like Cathedral fans....we have some modicum of self-awareness and humility...looking forward to the upcoming contretemp that "We are the MOST humble" from Cathedral folks....thinking the subtlety will escape their ego...it's why I love them). Still, this, if it goes down like the first game, it's between the number 1 and 3 teams in 4A (per Sags and CalPreps...although I think it's actually between #1 and #2 in 4A). I consider this the 4A Game of the Week although I also consider Chatard the HUGE underdog in this game.....kind of like last year against Merrillville with their 10+ D1 players. That said, Roncalli isn't Merrillville. Roncalli isn't soft (like Merrillville last year) and they know how dangerous Chatard can be. Roncalli is well coached and simply a BEAST of a team. Chatard was the last team to beat Roncalli which was last year (28-7....which really didn't reflect the closeness of the game in my opinion). This year they played Roncalli closer than anyone else has so far. For anyone who has seen game film, Chatard looks like a Freshman team lining up against the varsity in that game vs. Roncalli (which says a lot more about the HUGE size of Roncalli than the size of Chatard). I'm hoping this game is as good as it can be but it is clearly Roncalli's game to lose. In my opinion, they are literally a Top 5 team All Classes this year. I would have loved to have seen them play some of the teams Chatard did this year like Warren Central and Cathedral. I think it would have secured their spot in the Top 5 if they had. Also, as an aside, to address some of the recent posts I have seen on other threads. The 2019 Chatard team was a Top 5 team All Classes (CalPreps had them as #3 All Classes/Sagarin Predictor had them as #5 All Classes). The 2020 team wasn't a Top 5 team in my opinion but certainly Top 10 All Classes (CalPreps had them as #6 All Classes/#9 Sagarin Predictor/#6 Sagarin Golden Mean). I’m hoping it is as good a game as it can be. Honestly, I think it’s the State Championship…outside of East Central. We’ll see. Go Trojans.

It's hard to tell what stays open late anymore because many restaurants are closing early due to lack of help now and don't stay open past 10, or even 8, even on a Friday/Saturday night. Evil Czech is a good suggestion but I believe their hours are only listed through 10 PM on the weekend. CJ's Pub in downtown South Bend has great burgers and is open until 3 AM but I'm not sure what time the grill closes down. With this being a home football weekend for Notre Dame, it's likely to be fairly busy on Friday night. The View is also a decent burger joint on the east side of the river and right across the way from all the new stuff in Howard Park. In MIshawaka, there is Hacienda which is where many people end up after football games. I've never been to this place before, but I have friends that like to go to The Smokestack Brew for live music on the weekends. I believe it's open until 2 AM. Phoenix Bar & Grill is a decent bar in downtown Mishawaka that's open late but I must confess I've only ever been there during lunch hours so I can't vouch for what it's like on the weekend. Up in the Toscana Park area there's a pizza place named Tony Sacco's that I think is open until midnight and Bar Louie that's open late. Going up further into Granger on 23, Barehands Brewery is open until midnight and is a good stop if you enjoy craft beer. Only other thing that comes to mind right now is Between the Buns in Osceola that's open late on the weekends.

We tolerate you simply based on manners….but we all know you break every rule and flaunt it. What makes the rest of the Catholic schools most angry is that we get associated with it.

IU & Purdue missed out. They blew it. Not the first time and it won't be the last but Steele could have been theirs and they passed. I'm a lifelong IU fan but was more surprised at Purdue passing on him because their game was built around a very similar style running back. Steele would have been a perfect fit. Not sure I follow the comment about Dullaghan doing nothing to help the prize recruits. I don't know if he did or not but I can assure you that Coach Moore (former IU player) does everything he can for his recruited players and would love to open more of a channel between Bargersville and Bloomington.

Does Eastbrook go into the playoffs 9-0 or even 8-1 if they play in Luers conference though? I'm sure if Luers played Eastbrooks schedule they would be an unblemished 10-0 and a lot healthier than it sounds like they are. I'm not trying to knock Eastbrook, their conference, or record, winning every week is hard no matter who you play. I just think there is a gap in the level of competition between the two conferences which in my opinion makes Luers record more impressive than Eastbrook and more of the team to beat.

Interesting fact, one of the players on the Roncalli squad. His dad happens to be the principal at Chatard..I’m thinking Dad will be sitting by himself Friday night without mom. If I was a betting man.

There's not a person on this forum with an IQ over 70 who wants to hear about Cathedral's "disadvantage" of having only 1062 students. I've said my piece. It's the correct call. The Bremen player showed alot of character and even owned up to it after the game and didn't try to blame the officials (like others we know). It's just extremely rare to ever see it called, let alone on a play that literally determines which team goes to state and had no bearing on the outcome of the field goal. It's pretty ironic to hear complaining from the same fans that have reaped the rewards of many generous calls over the years but literally cry like babies every time they lose.

Similar play changed momentum in the first Snider-Dwenger matchup. BD blocked the kick down 3 late and had momentum. The officials called roughing the holder and gave snider 1st and goal. It’s a good call, you just hate to see a game decided by a call of any kind.

We have a 100% graduation rate and a 99% college placement rate. We'll take any public/private school kid tomorrow that likes those chances. Way better chance getting to college than getting playing time. And, if you think we sustain full enrollment without recruiting you're crazy. We beat the streets constantly for good kids. It's hard as hell to find parents committed to the sacrifice of $15k/annual. There are are certain forms of aid, but way less than the public and DT/temptation would mislead you to think.

My Luers team in 2007 went 5-4 in the SAC, we lost those 4 games to Harding (2006 2A Champs), North, Snider and Dwenger by a COMBINED 20 pts…knowing we were that close to the Victory Bell still haunts me and I have a blue ring! While I can’t speak to the mindset of these kids I would imagine they wanted that 15-0 mark. The key now is to stay humble and realize that every week is championship week. If they do that and play 48 minutes of Luers Football, they’ll be just fine.

MD 31, NP 21 I may be a little more bullish on the Vikings than most. I just think the gap between the NP and Linton is not that wide. They took a very good North Knox team to the wood shed last week. The MD defense should decide this one..but be wary. With that said, I will comfortably pick the Cats. Memorial 28, NV 20 Tough one here. I said 2 weeks ago that Memorial looked to be the better team over Jasper heading into postseason play (VL plays both teams back to back to end the regular season). As well as the Cats played all season, they looked to be even more dependent on their offensive system as compared to the 2020 team...not really any one player that stood out as a playmaker when things broke down. NV was able to expose this and Jasper simply didn't have the horses to overcome. Compound that with their propensity to allow the big play on defense, and it was a very favorable matchup for the Knights with the dynamic players they feature. Memorial, on the other hand, has some dudes at key positions who can get you a play when you need it on offense. The Tigers are better defensively IMO and can match up on the edge with NV. This will be a dog fight, but ultimately will end in a repeat of last season's sectional match up. However, I will tip my hat to the Knights if they can sweep the SIAC. VL vs OV All logic points to the Patriots, although my heart won't allow me a score prediction. I think this could realistically be within one score for or against Lincoln but could easily get out of hand. This is the same OV team the Alices nearly shut out (until the waning seconds) up in Spencer a year ago. Although this Lincoln team is much younger, the bulk of returning starters are on the defensive side. And that has been their strong suit, as most SIAC opponents would attest to. If Lincoln can somehow keep OV to around 20 pts it could get real interesting. The Alices have had a rough year offensively to say the least, but have found the gas pedal in the sectional. Maybe a little momentum can carry VL to an upset...

Not that my opinion matters - but I will say that this is not your father's North Posey team. Their QB, if he has time, can put the ball where it needs to be. And they have some playmakers on the outside that can make you pay for playing man-to-man, which we all know MD is very fond of. Could be an interesting match-up if the NP defense can get some stops.

Well stated. Took our son to a ND Army game several years ago....Wow, just wow. This was back in the Brady Quinn days and for an overmatched team, Army hung tough. But to be in the stadium with the cadets, Army mule mascot, the respect of the ND fans for the Army fight, etc. was incredible. The pre-game had a C-130 type plane fly overhead with a bunch of Golden Knights jumping out. All of the Knights landed squarely in the center of the field...the last one with the USA and state of Indiana flags (yes he was a Hoosier) carrying the game ball and handing to the referee. The place was electric. As the game ended, just like Army/Navy, the victor sang second. Army sang to their fans first with ND players behind them, Then ND players ran to the opposite side of the field, with Army players behind them. ND sang to their student body, with Army there with them. Then, they all mingled hugging each other. It was beautiful. Been to many, many college games.....none better than that one. Enjoy Bob....

I haven't read this entire thread, but this year's Irish are no where near as good as 2020. 2020 may have been the toughest schedule in my years of watching Cathedral football and they came 16.4 seconds from an unbeaten team. Defensively this year's team is better, but on balance the 2020 team was one of the best in the history of Cathedral football. IMO, only the 1963 team, they only allowed 18 points the entire season, and the 11996 team were on par with the 2020 team. Looking forward to Friday night and some dry weather, I hope. It's playoff time!!!!
