From: Coach Gilbert Title: Proposal from a Retiring Coach Next fall, God Willing, will be my 40 season as a head football coach and my final season as I plan to retire at the conclusion of the 2022 season. I have taught the past 34 years Social Science at Clinton Central High School and have been the head football coach 22 of those years. I am currently on my second run the past two seasons. I pride myself in being a classroom teacher first and extending that forum to the athletic field. My current course schedule includes: United States History, World History, APUSH, Psychology and Sociology along with certification as our school weight room instructor. We currently have an opening for second semester on for my teaching position, then after the conclusion of the football season an opportunity available to interview for the head football coaching position. This is a unique opportunity for the right candidate with a strong academic resume. Our students are outstanding as our academic rigor is directed and expected by students, administration and community. What kind of candidate are we seeking? Successful assistant coach with 5 + years of high school leadership experience. [from any class level] · A former or current head coach that would like to try again or just decided as I have done several times that you are just not done yet. [from any class level] · High level of strength teaching ability to lead not only football but direct the entire strength program. Peter King said it best. "Any right thinking person would shrug their shoulders at something like this. It's just plain wrong. Full stop." One university shouldn't be allowed to make an offer to a coach who is in the middle or end of a season. It's morally gross. But they do it because the NCAA allows it, and money is more important than morals. Notre Dame did it to Cincinnati twelve years ago and they may even do it again this year. It needs to come to a head. A player can't transfer and play at another school during the middle of the season, so why should the head coach. It's a head scratcher. After all these players at Notre Dame have gone through with their head coach........recruitment, development, games, life, ect., they shouldn't have to find out on social media that their head coach jumped ship one week before the announcement of the playoffs. Brian Kelly has character flaws, plain and simple.

Never too early. Some 2021 recaps and notes for 2022: - Similar to Montgomery at Southridge, I highly doubt Tilly plays football his senior year. He will be focused on Auburn and getting drafted. Castle will still be good though. It helps having a solid RB back, but they will need to replace some key players. Projected key returnees: LB John Purdy, RB Peyton Guerzini, WR Weston Aigner, WR Antonio Harris - Central is in a tough spot with new coaching and coming off a rough season, but do return both QBs which always helps. They were missing some key players due to injury throughout the season, so hard to tell how good they will be. Projected key returnees: RB Rojelio Diaz, RB Porter Rode, QB Blake Herdes, QB Ben Davies, WR Luke Pokorney - Harrison lost a few of their best players throughout the season which didn't help an already struggling team. They have some young talent but we will have to see if they stick with the program and buy in. Projected key returnees: RB Albert Wadlington, WR Asher Horn, OL Random Phillips - Bosse started off promising but struggled late in the year due to some injuries, trouble, and schedule. They do return some solid players and have a lot of talent at the younger levels. But similar to Harrison, we will have to see if that talent sticks with the program and buys in. Mullen is great for that program though. Projected key returnees: RB/DB Jaiden Thomas, WR Amari Hope, LB/RB Keith Hall - Reitz showed improvements at times but were very young in a lot of spots. I believe they will return 8 or 9 starters on defense. They will have to replace some key players on offense. If they can field some playmakers and a QB to get them the ball, we may see a winning season from the Panthers coming. Projected key returnees: WR/DB Roland Vera Jr., WR/DB Hayden Summers, RB Jonas Burnett, LB Ayden Wells, OL Harlen Summers - Jasper had a great season but really disappointed with a first round loss to NV. They do lose some key players but with Lewis and that offense they will most likely reload every year. Not sure who all they have coming back. If I had to guess we will see a different conference winner though. Projected key returnees: QB Grant Young, DB Bralen Bair - Memorial does lose some but has a lot of talent coming up and key players returning. It will be interesting to see if they keep their QB there or give Fisher a shot at it. I think Memorial will still be a strong contender for the conference title with their mix of players returning and young talent coming up. Projected key returnees: QB Caleb Ellspermann, WR Hugh Pearce, WR Leo Collins, LB Carac Johnson, OL Drew Weinzapfel, OL Edward Hartig - Vincennes battles hard every game but so far has lacked the team speed and talent to contend with the big boys of the conference. I look for them to make some strides and get an extra win or two next season, I think Salters does a great job with that program. Projected key returnees: WR Dejuan Gillis, RB/LB Tanner Gilbert - North always seems like they are on the verge of getting over the hill but have yet to get there. They are very close though. Losing Brawdy and Hankins will hurt but they do have a lot of talent returning. Projected key returnees: RB Angelo St. Louis, WR Jaylonn Mitchell, TE Kaleb Harris, OL Timmy Dixon, LB Cale Johnson, DL Jaylen Hazelwood - Mater Dei had a great season and started to peak in the playoffs before running into the buzzsaw that was Andrean. Unfortunately they lose some key players, but also return some. Their underclassmen are solid too. I think they will be just as good next year. Projected key returnees: QB Mason Wunderlich, WR Luke McDurmon, WR Ethan Stolz, RB, Joey Pierre, OL Austin Vanover, OL Cody Wells Feel free to add any other notes or returning players worth mentioning, I'm sure I missed some.

Don't make promises for a team you know nothing about . We aren't glad or sad. It is what it is. We will compete as a school of less than 600 kids in whatever class we are told to play in, whether it's against schools with 600-700 or 1350. We would have enjoyed playing HH in 32 Sectional in 2019, and then Chatard at state. Too many teams down here seem to fear them.

FYI, Sagarin has Missouri State as a 7 point dog to Toledo, a 3 point dog to Stanford, a 2 point dog to Georgia Tech and a pick em game with Navy on a neutral field. Missouri State made the FCS playoffs. Oklahoma State played Missouri State…ND played 4 versions of Missouri State. Case STILL closed.

Interesting. I've known Tayven since he played flags as a kindergartner I believe. He's an incredibly nice kid who has more charisma in his pinky than I have in my whole body so I think he will relish the limelight. His skills are off the chart. It's going to be fun to watch him compete.

I met Coach Gilbert a few years back at a Regional (2013 South Adams). A bitterly cold night; And out walks this 'grizzled- gentlemanly Coach' in a short-sleeved shirt and tie. Welp, ya got my respect IMMEDIATELY! He was in charge from start to finish. They went on to win that evening, the next week at Semi-State and off to LOS. At the Monday meeting of teams, officials, media, and IHSAA Staff. I made darned sure to take a "B-Line", shake his hand and wish him and Tri-Central the very best in the 1A Final vs. Eastern Hancock. Here's what I know, he helped make me, and the crew better! I wish Coach Gilbert the very best. And I feel proud to have been a small part of his journey. He's been a large part of ours.

Rarely do QBs not redshirt at that level. Brady’s work ethic will have him in the hunt by year 2. Regardless of talent it’s a huge learning curve. Purdue is bringing in a really talented kid in the 22 class. Teams like Purdue will continue to recruit the best they can get at QB regardless of who’s in the QB room. I think Brady’s work ethic wins but there will be top notch comp every year.

Notre Dame "should" never have to reboot, in my opinion. I get the love and support for Freeman and I do think he'll one day end up being a very good college HC, but player support/recruiting retainment really shouldn't be the mitigating factor in the hiring process. Same thing happened with USC and Clay Helton. Helton was named the interim after they fired Sarkisian and it was in large part due to outspoken support by then current players and committed recruits. That same support landed Helton an extension that certainly wasn't warranted. ND is a big boy program and they will make the right decision and it very well could be Freeman and he very well could kill it in South Bend for the next 20 years, but the decision shouldn't be based on player/recruit input.

Pokes have already beaten Baylor once....by 10. They are a tough 4th down spot call from possibly being undefeated. Hard to argue your point against Missouri State and guessing that does hold them back. But it was game 1....and the Cowboys are a totally different team, especially offensively now. This is where not being in a conference hurts ND. The teams ahead of them will get an extra game, and if they win, it looks different and stronger for them. I guess when it gets to teams at 4, 5, 6, 7 there are hairs being split. One could make a case either for ND or OK State.

I am willing to say that if OSU beats Baylor, there is a case for them to be in front of ND. I think a stronger case would have been made if the committee waited for that to happen. FTA: Game control: OSU has five wins by single digits (23-16 over Missouri State, 28-23 over Tulsa, 21-20 over Boise State, 32-24 over Texas and 37-33 over OU), plus two wins that were two-possession games at the finish (Kansas State 31-20, Baylor 24-14). Notre Dame has three wins by single digits (41-38 over Florida State in overtime, 32-29 over Toledo and 32-29 over Virginia Tech), plus three more wins that were two-possession games at the finish (27-13 over Purdue, 44-34 over North Carolina and 31-16 over Southern Cal). OSU’s loss (24-21 to Iowa State) was tight. Notre Dame’s 24-13 loss to Cincinnati was somewhat one-sided. Advantage: even. I laugh at this one when it says advantage is even. I don't see it that way at all. In fact, I see the opposite. 5 single digit wins compared to 3 is NOT an advantage; ESPECIALLY when one of OSU's single digit ins is against an FCS team in Missouri State.

Notre Dame's regular season has technically ended as has LSU's. Early signing period for college football is December 15th, it would look a whole lot worse had Brian Kelly let a dozen or so kids sign their LOI's (some even early enrolles) only to bolt after the first of the year. It's the way these things work, there's no easy way to leave one job for another. As far as the social media aspect goes, how much control does Brian Kelly have over that? Social media is the problem.

This could easily turn into a 5 yr. setback for a program that was a few players from competing with the ultra-elite programs. I think to have any hopes of salvaging what had shaped up to be the best recruiting class in years they will have to hire Freeman as HC, and hope they can talk Reese into staying at least a couple more years. Failing that, they need a home run hire of a well known name to try and stop the de-commits.

The problem with that, of course, is that means whichever one doesn’t get the job is probably gone. If neither gets the job, they’re probably both gone. Freeman might be the most valuable assistant the program has had in a long time.

I don't think you could go wrong with the PAC conference in general. A quick plug for SR successes, going back the last couple of decades (2000s to present) I believe we actually hold a slim margin of victories head-head vs. MD. Especially of late, their successes have came when we've been bumped up due to the success factor and/or enrollment. That in no way is meant to diminish what they have accomplished, again just putting a plug in for us. The success factor is a fickle thing..I'm not sure Memorial was too heartbroken to be in 4A the last couple of years?? Whereas, again, a 3A semi-state team I would like to think had a chance of a Lucas trip had we been in the correct classification. As is life though...

But... we don't recruit move-ins in the PAC. 🤪

Ummmmmmm

You typically don't see the OL separated into positions for the PAC. If memory serves me correct, it's typically just a blanket OL (and you may end up with more than five players). With the different offenses and defenses, the teams askew positions year-to-year, as some teams run even/odd defensive fronts leaving the DE either as a DL or LB. This can also happen with DBs and LBs, if a player is a "Rover" SS/LB split. When all is said, they do a pretty good job of making the list flexible to try and include the best players -- classic example is two good QBs and one getting moved to DB or P/K if they played it. I'd suggest adding 2-4 ATH positions and then just limiting the offensive and defensive teams to 11 (plus a K & P). Who would be the FB this year either in a Wishbone or some form of the Flexbone (just for short yardage...)? Actually, some kind of Pistol/Run-N-Shoot would be interesting this year as TEs were in short supply. I've always thought the Run-N-Shoot circa 1990s NFL has been underused in HS. HS went from Power -> Pro (one TE, two WR/tight slot) -> Variations of the spread. Timing is really hard to get right with the Pistol, but when executed well, everything goes downhill and you have the options of the Wing T with long and short motion, options, shovel passes, play action, screens. And no GS spread!

@Titan32 Not taking anything away from other programs but there’s no doubt where to go for football success with best chances for deep tournament runs and exposure in SW Indiana. No particular order top 3 EM, MD and GS. Next 3 SR, HH and maybe Castle.

Perhaps if you were an IFOA Member @Major you would have seen the HISTORY of this crew. Since you knew NOTHING about them.... A 5A State Championship Assignment, (2) 6A State Championship Games.....ranked in the Top 5 often (#1 Multiple times) ... State Finals appearances among the crew in multiple sports (at least 27 amongst the crew members). So here's my final response to your idiotic commentary/evaluation!

West Lafayette - 743 Danville - 739 Gibson Southern - 728 Tri-West - 578 In recent years the 3A/4A cutoff has fallen right around 800. If reclassification would have happened for this year, Brebeuf would have been 4A with an enrollment of 816.

If you're going to dive into the Facebook morass, I have a suggestion. Make sure to write specific rules and then enforce them. Some of the other Facebook groups dedicated to high school sports are sad messes.

Yes, that's why I provided a very lengthy description of what the officials are taught to do (keys at the snap then transitioning of their eyes as the play evolves) and how it related to this specific play. The left guard firing out as a run block (in this specific play) is why this official may have transitioned his eyes to the receiver late, thus missing the grab. It's a foul in my opinion, I was merely trying to provide all readers with an insight as to why this foul may be missed. It's a coverage nightmare given the left tackle fires out as a run blocker. If he retreats to pass block (steps backwards behind the LOS), then the R would pick him up as a blocker and the HL would have transitioned his eyes to the WR much quicker and possibly seen the grab in it's entirety.

I am an active Tweeter on Friday night at the account sharing scores as I see and hear them, and go to it constantly on Friday's searching for updates. As well, I follow more people there posting updates of scores versus what I see on the pinned thread here. I would personally suggest only paying for it from August - November. I do not see much of a need for it throughout the rest of the year. Occasionally there is some good stuff that gets shared, but overally it is either pretty silent or as others posted, random responses.

Hard to tell from the clip if the grab occurred before or after the pass was thrown.
