Sure Steele was a major reason CG won last year. I am sure Allen required great players around him as well to win a title. He didn't do it alone. Steele also didn't play defense. Bottom line, Curry was a major reason that CG went to the State Title game 3 years in a row, winning 2 of them. He's a major reason CG has went 28-0 over the past 2 seasons, playing 6A and MIC competition. Allen has 1 title and level of competition doesn't come close. Not his fault, it just is what it is. Look, Allen will most likely win. Mr. Football has shown us all but once, the award goes to an offensive player and QB's really stand out. Votes like stats and the flash. My guess is that politically, they do not want to give this award to the same high school 2 years in a row. But when it comes to an ALL-AROUND FOOTBALL PLAYER, there is no comparison. Curry plays both sides of the ball and several special teams, including the teams long snapper. You saw in the state title game, when CG needed a yard or 2, who got the ball...a defensive player. Curry played the wing several times laying some crushing blocks. I think you can rest easy. Indiana Mr. Football is much like the Heisman. Its really about the state's best offensive player...not best all-around player.

LOL....Memorial folks themselves said here back in '19 that they were glad they were in 4A or they wouldn't have been celebrating if they were in 3A. That didn't originate with me, but with Memorial folks. As for Chatard, some of those folks stated that the '19 team was the best they had had in a decade...again, their words, not mine. As for me, am I glad that a stellar Memorial team was not in 32 for us to have to get through in addition to a tough GS team? Like you said, it is what it is. I believe that P/P should have to play up anyway, but the rules in Indiana are what they are and until they are changed we just have to get bigger, stronger, faster. Take it from one who is 1 - 6 against Chatard....we don't make excuses when we lose to them (well some 'round here do), we instead have to get back to work and improve until the rules change, which they won't. I would have rather had this years Chatard team to play than the '19 team, but that is the way it goes. The unfortunate fact for those of us in public po dunk is that to win state we need guys named Jay and Brady (with a solid crew around them)--once in a generation for our schools. We don't get those guys every year, but every now and then, in a good program you can take a group of skinny, nasty, country boys (and a few big hungry ones) and make a solid run and have your opportunity to play for it all. To be honest, in 3 years, I hope our path goes through Memorial and Chatard....I think we may be able to give them both a solid game.

I like the hire. A risk? Absolutely. Ryan Day seems to be doing just fine. Notre Dame has good football team. It sounds like they'll work hard for him............same can be said for the existing staff surrounding him. The recruits, at a level ND hasn't seen in a long time, will keep their commitments. All that being said, ND is poised to continue their success for at least a couple more years. This is better than Freeman going to LSU, recruits decommitting, and players entering the transfer portal. Not to mention a f--- y-- to LSU and Brian Kelly. You don't get Freeman, he's staying. Now all Freeman has to do is get his first championship before Kelly does. And you better believe everyone still on board will do everything to make that happen.

If you’re not playing after thanksgiving you have absolutely zero chance at winning this award. It’s been said that if Brady were to have a chance he needed to win state. He led the team to that goal. TigerFan, I am originally from Jasper and use to go to all of the games but since moving I lost track of the team. I just want to thank you and another fan from Memorial for all of your coverage of the SIAC. It has helped me to stay connected to something important to me. I’ve been reading your stuff all year long and it is really insightful and well done. Maybe I’ll get down there sometime for a memorial jasper game and buy you a few beers before. thanks!!!

I am just a HS guy. I do have a member of my crew who does College FB also. I did College BA for years. But left a while back...

Oh come on. The award is known to have bias towards metro Indy/largest class. More than half the winners all hail from Metro Indy and 13/29 winners have all come from the largest class (either then 5A or 6A). Yes there have been winners from smaller classes, butthe largest class has a huge disproportionate amount of winners.

Both Sagarin and CalPreps have Gibson Southern as the 9th ranked Indiana HS football team All Classes. To my knowledge, over the last 10 or so years, only one other 3A school has been able to break into the Top 10 All Classes. Say what you want, but that tells me that GS is a very rare and special 3A team.

Over. He'll do well. The better question is whether or not he gets a national title. I say yes. I just don't know if it's going to be 3, 5, or 7 years. Make no mistake, this man can coach football. He's good at hiring the right people to work within his system.

It's a different dynamic now that ALL the coaches get a vote! Don't think that the small school guys won't stick together and there is power in their numbers.

Lol, I have little faith in that. From what I understand, Michigan has a higher academic standard than most. Not in the same category as Notre Dame, Stanford, and Northwestern. But definitely in the next tier.

I don't think Brian Kelly alone determines whether Notre Dame or LSU is the better job. Right now in Kelly's life, he determined that it's the better job for him. Earlier today on ESPN, Stephen Austin was debating why he thought LSU is a better job than Notre Dame "by a mile." He wasn't talking about why it was a better job for Brian Kelly. He was just flat out calling LSU the better job. I think the best job means something different to different people. There are probably ten programs that could make the claim.

I agree. As Bobref has posted several times, this is a zero-sum game. Anyone who doesn't get assigned will feel the the process is unfair and can show it by leaving. We don't gain anything by using this as a collective justification for changing the process. The same number of officials/crews will be upset. It will just be a different group. I have friends in college and NFL officiating and they complain about their rating and post-season assigning process as well. Yes, the process needs to be updated, but retention of officials is not a primary reason. The other comment about having to "start over", they technically do. A crew who worked a state final is only eligible for a sectional final the following year just like every other crew. They often return because they are still getting the votes required to advance. Crews that only get 1 or 2 games need to realize the crew working regional and beyond aren't the ones they are "competing" against. They are competing against the crews getting the 2nd round and sectional final games. At that level performance has more of an impact than the number of votes. But there are still a limited number of games and good crews will be excluded no matter what.

I think for a select few people at the very pinnacle of their profession, the ability to compete for the ultimate achievement drives every decision, it outweighs all other factors. I don’t think there’s any question that, over the long term, LSU is more likely to be competing for a championship than Notre Dame, for reasons that are well known and have already been discussed. For BK, given all that he achieved at Notre Dame and still only got occasionally within shouting distance of the trophy, he has nothing left to chase except the trophy. So, he saw an opportunity to enhance his odds of achieving that goal, and he took it. And if that’s how you’ve ordered your life’s priorities, then he did the right thing.

Allen no doubt had great players around him…including the most criminally under recruited/ underrated WR I have ever seen in Rory Heltsley. It’s honestly to the point that I’m mad about it for him. The GS fan base will probably be more excited if he gets a new D1 offer or something than if Brady were to win Mr. Football. 3 Mr football nominees in 2 years on this Center Grove team………come on man. CG was the favorite to win this whole time too…..winning back to back championships is what was expected when you have 10 or so D1 players on the roster over 2 years.

You hate to see things like this. It overshadows the great work that the players and teams put into this season. Too much recently on the GID we see things like this or coaches that abuse authority. These things are difficult to stomach at times hopefully we can move forward and not spread hate on this and not put down an entire program on the actions of one person.

Caden Curry is the Best Football player in Indiana on the Best Team in Indiana.... therefore should be a no brainer for Mr. Football. While The Purdue commit is a fantastic talent, 3A... ain't 6A, therefore credit should be given where credit is due. I'd say Max Webster and Tayven Jackson are above him on the list for this Mr. Football award. Leading his team to a 3A championship once, isn't the same as Tayven and Max leading their teams in the highest class BACK to BACK years. That is legit!! Congrats to Brady and good luck at Purdue!! But Sorry, no case for Mr. Football. #TRUTH

Brady Allen was named as a Semi-Finalist for the Maxwell award. One of 16 in the nation. Not sure he can win this award but he is in elite company as a semi finalist joining 6 other QBs including the QBs committed to Georgia/Clemson/TAMU/Penn State. Pretty incredible that he has a chance to win this award. The other players on this list are at the very top of the 2022 class. Congrats to Brady on being nominated for this!

I don't think you'd find many HH fans betting that the Patriots would beat Memorial in 2019. It was a good Heritage Hills team, but maybe not even Coach Wilkerson's best -- just his most successful. I biasedly prefer the 2003 HH-EVM matchup. HH, without any real DI players (Seifrig graduated the year before ... one sophomore who lettered went on to play DI), also beat Mater Dei in the same sectional and Jasper (coming off a 4A State Championship) during the regular season. The 1990s had some great games, HH was better in the 2000s, and Memorial has been the better program over the past 10 years. That's my objective take and I'm sure I'll take some flack from my own school for saying so.

Cathedral from a depth perspective is night and day better and more suited for a 6A run now than they were the first go around. Lost in 2OT to a pretty good Avon team in 15 out a couple starters and ran into a buzzsaw in Ben Davis in 16 both at the regional level. No shame in any of that. Yes it will be more difficult for Cathedral to navigate a 5 game playoff run playing teams 3-4x their enrollment, because just like every program in the state, each individual graduating class isn't built the same.
