I think it was a classless, petty and foolish move and just further seals the fate of the MIC. I’d add “childish” to the description. As to who was spurned - it backfired. Carmel and CG look sympathetic.

I wonder if there are shake ups amongst not just the HCC & MIC... But perhaps the Mid State also? Does this shuffle other conferences in the Indy Metro Area... How? And I wouldn't be so sure... Also, what is the timing of this? Effective at the end of 2021-2022 School Year??

You are taking football. There are 19 other sports to consider…and in most of them the remaining 6 aren’t competitive with Carmel and CG. Its tough to sell your student athletes and families on your program when you are getting trucked in every sport imaginable. Even the greatest coaches cannot overcome the enrollment and socioeconomic advantages of Carmel year in and year out. Once I saw Carmel and CG were going 1-2 in TRACK AND FIELD, I knew the baton (pun intended) had been passed.

I would have to think from a geographic standpoint, that Carmel may be accepted. CG may have to look closer to home.

Ok....I'll be the guy to call out the elephant in the room. Did the MIC just say....hey CG and Carmel....we hear you guys think you are too "culturally" uppity uppity to play with us? Does this have racial and socioeconomic overtones....or at least perceived ones that the MIC perceives CG and Carmel have?

Apparently “conferences” have egos. Just why they couldn’t let them leave on their own but rather wanted to “one up” them before they left makes me realize that there are damn few grown ups running organizations these days.

The manner in which you disagree absolutely are personal attacks. Go back and read your responses. Foxbat disagreed with HHF in a very positive manner....not making it personal. Read his response and then with an open mind read yours. Not sure why the bitterness or why you feel the need to demean others having an opinion differently than yours. It really is a shame..... Forums are made to discuss, debate, and offering different perspectives. No one has to agree. They are opinions. Nothing more. Not sure why you take everything so personal, feeling the need to attack those that feel differently. Kind of character revealing actually.

Get the darned I69/I65 6A thing going with FB!!! There is no need for them to look at the future if they are the "outliers(SAC/MIC)" currently other than this situation. I totally believe that they could cobble together a 9 game schedule without any issue amongst the current IHSAA 6A schools who want to participate. DAC do I hear ya?????

I'm also not a big fan of not providing options. University of Oklahoma is well-known for its arts programs as well as its 7 Heisman Trophy winners, 5 Outland Trophy winners, 7 National Championships, and 3 collegiate Butkus winners. What if.......Carmel does not join a conference and stays independent? Or; maybe people in the SAC can confirm; but I believe Carroll and Homestead are only in the conference for football and basketball. The other sports are independent. I can see something like that happening for Carmel and CG.

All true. But you didn’t mention anything about $$. Follow the money. What does Carmel bring to the HCC economically?

That decision should be left to the community and school administrators, not some blowhard on the GID.

The conference title is nice, but does it really matter to these schools who finishes first in swimming or volleyball when they will be eliminated in the first round of the sectionals anyway?

Think “Country Club” sports. similar thing happened on a much smaller scale when Homestead and Carroll were voted out of the NHC. The conference title tally, while low in football, was insane in those other sports.

People do it all the time on GID. Learn to ignore it if it bothers you. Nobody if forcing you to respond in the manner that you do. That is 100% under your control. And yes...I do understand the difference. No need to be condescending.

Just curious how many kids, in Indiana, died this past season due to mismatches in numbers of players? Any call on how many kids from Midland died in 1926 when Linton beat them 156-0? I'm assuming that the local mortician was able to retire after that game. In all seriousness, and I'll ask again, although you say it's pure common sense, what are the numbers? I'm not making light of this, but I suspect that more kids in Indiana have died of heat-related conditions. And, again, how many deaths are attributed directly to the mismatch in team sizes? Also, on a somewhat related set of numbers, do we have concussion numbers for Indiana? If so, it should be fairly easy to determine how valid the concussion appeal happens to be as we could look at numbers and apply them to sizes of teams and see if there's any correlation ... although as I'm sure that @Bobref will point out, and rightly so, correlation isn't specifically causation. It would, however, be a decent starting point for determining is it really the issue or not.

This reminds me of one of my favorite all time posts on the Gridiron Digest. Around 2000 Bob Davie was on his way out and either Cathedral or Chatard was looking for a HC. A thread was started, and subsequently locked, about who was the next man up at the school. Someone ( I wish I remember who) posted, "Bob Davie should be the next head coach, He can't recruit and Cathedral/Chatard doesn't. Hilarious.

But the actions, attention, reasoning, historical insensitivity, ability to defer to situations that are not at all germane to the situation at hand; Are the exact reason that "Race" should always be discussed on a personal level, in a level headed manner with others who are not "like ourselves". I am always amazed at the deference to the "crime rates" in Chicago, Saint Louis, Detroit...etc. as an answer to anything regarding "race". Do you honestly believe that the occurrences of violence outside of your sphere of life is of any concern to your day-to-day life? Nope, it's a red-herring of an argument! Crime has ALWAYS been higher within those "races" that tend to congregate together. It's the attention to the types of crimes, and how they are perceived within the judicial system that has made this an issue. "Chad" may have had a juvenile digression. But let that be (let's say) Jamal, and with the same situation, he is interpreted as being a criminal more likely to be a threat to the overall society, even though his transgression was of the same magnitude, or even less. This was an OBB conversation, IMO. Kinda hard to discuss this without it devolving.

I guess what I'm not seeing in this argument, and others have alluded to it as well, is how, other than via cosmetics does forcing schools to not field a team increase competitiveness in the overall scheme of things? It would be somewhat different if we had a system like Texas where you don't pick your schedule or your conference. In Indiana though, it would seem that competitiveness is somewhat more tied to choice, although there are some with some limitations given ideological or geographical issues. For example, I believe I've seen a few Linton folks, and I'll let them correct me if I'm wrong, indicate that one of the reasons that they left their old conference and became more independent was because of competitiveness, or more specifically, lack of competitiveness. They used their legs to increase their competitiveness. One issue that concerns me of the talk in competitiveness is that I suspect that there are schools that have football not for the level of competitiveness that some folks are wanting to reach for the state, but as an extra-curricular activity for their kids just like band, dance, chess club, robotics, science club, etc. For schools that have the ideology of football being an activity to keep kids off the streets and give them options or just something else to do, would not the rug be potentially pulled out from under their feet if the idea of having such an activity is tied to having to win sectionals? As a general reminder, if I recall correctly, someone posted that roughly 7-8% of kids that play high school football will never play football again beyond their senior year. It would seem that, if that number holds true, competitiveness can certainly be part of the equation, but seems harsh to make it THE PART of the equation that is the thumbs-up or thumbs-down component that comes from a source that is external to the school.
