  3. IU had been taking major steps forward up until a serious setback this year. IU had terrible luck with injuries this year and played the entire season with subpar QB play. Willing to give the new OC a chance to try and develop McCulley before writing of the Hoosiers just yet.

  5. Is this a topic that is already here? I could not remember....I probably could have started one much sooner than this. That said, I just saw this posted this evening. As a football fan, I loved listening to Madden's insight. He made things easy to understand, and it was obvious he loved his job. RIP John and thank you for so many great memories

  6. Over the course of 6a's nine year existence, all state titles have been brought home by the same four teams..........Carmel, Ben Davis, Warren Central, and Center Grove. Three of those teams just happen to rank 1, 2, and 3 in terms of enrollment. It's not an equal playing field. The IHSAA knows it. The AD's know it. The coaches know it. The players know it. And the fans know it. Gone are the days of the northeast, the northwest, and the southern part of the state putting their footprint on the state title at the highest level. It's been 22 years since anyone outside of Indianapolis has brought home the hardware. That was Penn in 2000. They also did it in '97, '96, '95, and '83. Bloomington South did it in '98 & '93. Snider did it in '92. Before the year 2001, big boy state titles were common place in other areas of the state. But damn, that was over two decades ago. Things are different now, and something needs to be done. Is it a matter of the IHSAA stepping in and splitting 6a into two divisions? Or is it a matter of programs around the state stepping up their game and doing what they need to do to "get the job done." The fair thing to do would be to split into two 16 team divisions as HHF suggested in another post. Since that probably won't happen, I guess we'll have to take the "get better or get used to it approach." The SAC knows what it needs to do to amp up their level of play and get Carroll and Homestead to a 6a state title game. It's also a matter of getting Snider back there. It's pretty simple. Restructure the conference and give those three teams an opportunity to taste Central Indiana football before running into that wall when the tournament starts. Does the Region have a plan in place? What about Southern Indiana? Will they implement a plan? Or will they just settle for the status quo like the SAC does?

  19. I want you to stop desperately trying to stir up controversy and read what I am about to write here. Coach Hart accepted the promotion to Athletic Director for Gibson Southern THIS YEAR. Let me repeat….THIS YEAR….Allen was already a senior. The team had its eyes set on a state title and was one of the favorites to represent 3A south. Why on earth would someone take on a new position that requires a ton more responsibility and one that relies on the person being a stable fixture to the school if he was thinking about leaving at all? Especially in this Covid era where so many sports are cancelling matchups or rescheduling. I’m fairly certain that if Coach Hart had even a small desire to change things up, that it would have been mentioned during the hiring process. No school board would unanimously vote someone into being the Athletic Director for their HS if they didn’t believe the new hire would keep the position for some time after….and on top of that, anyone applying to be the AD wouldn’t do so if they knew they were going to seek out other opportunities in the near future. Everything you just typed out was a complete waste of your time simply because you didn’t read and you neglected to use any critical thinking on this subject.

  20. Warren and BD will continue to be contenders based on enrollment and commitment to the sport. Carmel and CG aren’t going anywhere. But the dynamic of what is happening in the Indy suburbs makes it an even steeper hill than it’s ever been. HSE, Westfield, Brownsburg, and Zionsville are growing and have waited their turn. They’ve made the commitment that BD/Warren did three decades ago and now have the facilities and enrollment to do some serious damage. Furthermore, Fishers, Franklin Central, and Whiteland will be key players in the next few years. It used to just be a 2-4 team mountain that non central Indy schools had to climb. It’s now at a half dozen and growing.

  21. I thought of that myself. But that would be unfair to Indianapolis. No one would want the mercy rule in play by halftime of the 6a state championship.

  22. When I have time, I'll find the receipt. Actually, I won't. Too many threads to go through. I think it was 2019, not 2020. It's when Luke Goode was still playing football. Unfortunately, they lost their all everything offensive weapon (name is failing me) just before the playoffs started. Ended up surrendering to Carmel, not Westfield. It went something like this............."I'm actually jumping on the Homestead bandwagon." It was sometime around week 7. Who knows what that meant. Maybe it meant that they would be defeated by Carmel. What I took from it was that you thought they had a legitimate chance to get down to state and win it. Quite frankly, everyone up here in the northeast was pretty optimistic as well. Regardless. Homestead and Carroll both brought hyperbole over the last two years. Until they win regional, that's all it will ever be.

  23. To elaborate, UCLA’s obligations are no doubt spelled out in a lengthy contract … but that contract is not with “Wolfpack families.” It’s with the Bowl organizers. If anyone has a legal remedy against UCLA, it’s them,

  26. It's understandable that so much focus is on enrollment. It's the simplest and cleanest way to class schools, and football is the most numbers-dependent sport. Focusing on enrollments in 6A is a waste of time. Those schools all have enough material to compete. They fall short elsewhere. This should be so obvious by now it hurts. We don't even have to look that hard for good examples. How about we take two weeks of Merrillville's 2021 season? Merrillville (2187) 39 - Penn (3338) 7. Westfield (2334) 48 - Merrillville (2187) 19. I'm just using the IHSAA numbers, but Penn's enrollment is actually more like 3800 if that helps any. With you here for sure. Diluting 6A is definitely not a solution to any problem, if one exists. This would be akin to class basketball in my opinion. The Indy area football programs have traditionally dominated the largest class, and, to some degree, the second largest class in football. Creating an additional class does nothing to change that. Large schools outside of Indy are disadvantaged because of their competitive environments, but that doesn't necessitate the creation of an additional class to give them the chance at a state championship they "deserve". There were at least five. Penn has had 3000+ students for two decades, and a lot of good that's done them in that time.

  31. I like the DB character and this poster does a great job of mimicking him. I’m all ears regarding potential changes but have no interest in a 16 team class. Besides there aren’t 16 mega schools in my opinion. Not sure what you do about the non-Indy teams’ inability to compete but eliminating the competition is not a solution I can support.

  36. I’m sure you realize that the finalists in the 6A game the last two seasons have both been from what would be your small 6A group. So much for the hypothesis that schools from the bottom half of 6A can’t compete with the top half.

  37. The best version of yourself might be more concerned with finding a great fit for your little ones in school and the community you would like to seem them grow up in or a great church that is a fit or an administration that fully supports you or a community that supports the program in everyway or a feeder system that doesn't need an overhaul or perhaps proximity to grandparents matters. This list isn't all inclusive. That said I do think the list is a nice acknowledgment of what all these fine coaches are doing. Thanks for putting it together. I am a professional myself and I can tell tell you keeping my kids in the South Gibson School Corporation has cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars with regard to my own work. Best decision I ever made.

  38. More like a character. But that's ok also. Still the OK thing is something that should be looked at and potentially considered (if there's a ground-swell) to separate the MEGA-6A from those below a demarcation line for other 6A schools. IMO, the 'demarcation line' has less to do with school population; Than the ability to seek better competition that makes those beyond the "donut" competitive in 6A as it exists currently.

  39. @Rudydoing the some great work once again gathering all the votes/info link: http://www.almanacsports.com/article.php?news_id=2021122701 Nothing too surprising imo. congrats to all. If you feel like someone was missed, sign up for the email and encourage others to as well so you can vote next year. I think I read in the notes on the page that there were a number of schools who had no player with a vote. 425 votes or so total, so that number can get better for sure.

It's seems our judicial system will do most anything that allows them to NOT do the job their branch of government was created to do in the first place. Shameful, and probably unconstitutional.

  44. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/the-new-woke-model-army-gender-advisers-us-military/ More: Read it all. Here’s an academic paper from 2016 examining what gender advisers do in NATO armies, and suggesting that the US military add them to its ranks. The paper cites several examples of overseas deployments in which gender advisers were useful in helping soldiers understand complex gender standards, and how respecting them helped the mission. That said, are you confident that in the current highly politicized environment in the US, that gender advisers will be of practical help, versus being de facto political commissars? I’m not — but I could be wrong. Ms. magazine recently cited a Georgetown report about the need to further feminize the US military. Excerpts: How, exactly, will America’s war-fighting capabilities be improved by having commanders who are more empathetic? How in the world do empathetic officers “increase the US’s overall security”? It’s mind-boggling. You will not be surprised to learn that the article ends with a call for more gender advisers to feminize the US military. Also in today’s mailbag, from another reader: UPDATE: Reader Richard York comments: UPDATE.2: A reader e-mails: Oh George S. Patton, where are you when we need you?
