  4. I went back and watched that play several times over. It was definitely called on the left tackle, but I will say this in confidence. 8 out of 10 officials would not call that a hold based upon other holds not called in this game. They were letting them play and I think that one should have definitely been a play on. The DE on that side was not even complaining. That to me is usually a sign it should not have been called. People were talking about Brownstown's offensive scheme. What they did not know apparently was Linton has ran similar schemes in the past. This undoubtedly helped in the preparation. They weren't going to be surprised by much. Playing on a grass field definitely helped, as it looked like Brownstown almost didn't know what grass was at times after playing basically all turf fields this season. Linton slipped a little too, but made better adjustments to keep their footing. I will say that this game really was decided by about 2-3 plays. When #1 broke loose on the long run in the 4th, Oliver chasing him down was the biggest. If he doesn't, that's a touchdown and more than likely the game. Play #2 was when Linton's defense was able to get #40 out of bounds. That acted as our 3rd timeout. That gave us our chance. The final play was the first 4th down play in the 4th quarter. They go for it instead of kicking the field goal. The thing is, #10 was open past the sticks. Oliver chased down the QB and altered the pass. Those plays were much more important than the 2 point conversion. Any of those go the other way, we probably have a different outcome. Linton could have came up with a better 2pt conversion play on the last score. Playing from behind instead of ahead changes perspective sometimes. Regardless, this was still one of of my favorite games to have watched since at least 2016. Hats off to Brownstown on a fantastic season. There is a good possibility we do it again next year.

  7. Penalties at the wrong time have plagued Lawrence North all year. They had been fortunate enough their speed and aggressive play over came them, but not last night. Like I said in a previous post they had flaws, but were able to overcome them with speed and aggressive defensive play. Having watched Brownsburg play I knew they would present problems for LN because Brownsburg has the biggest O-line I have seen all year and LN was not really big up front. Coach Hart's staff did a good job exploiting LN's aggressive speedy defense with their run game by taking advantage of their propensity to over pursue. In the pass game they utilized short passes and screens to exploit over pursuit. Defensively I thought the Bulldogs did a solid job bottling up the speed similar to Cathedral. LN got some yardage but they wouldn't let them break big ones. Coach Mallory made the right decision trying that 47 yard FG after trying to run a little clock. Their kicker came close to hitting it (soccer kid that just came out for football after the season started). They hit that and it is a 10 point lead with about 1:30 to go. Brownsburg offense went to a 2 minute drill drove right down the field to score and go for 2, I had no doubt in my mind Coach Hart was going for 2. To begin with I have seen Coach Hart take chances going for 2 when he coached Evansville Reitz and secondly he likely knew going into OT it would be more of a shootout and they would have to go for 2 at some point in OT. I am still amazed at the throw and catch to Chandler to get out of bounds with 0.2 on the clock, that was a quick catch and fall out of bounds. It didn't matter the long FG was missed but man that was quick. It was a great game, I want to see Coach Mallory get himself a State Championship, he is a terrific coach that has turned Lawrence North around with years of hard work I would like to see it pay off. Coach Hart is a terrific coach and person so I am still happy for him. Has Brownsburg ever played Center Grove with Coach Moore at the helm or even in tournament time? I know Coach Hart has wehn at Warren Central, but I don't think Brownsburg ever has, I will have to look that up.

  9. Ralph must be reading the board (the guy is *always* looking for some bulletin board material). He referenced that in our postgame radio interview ... "I know people say we don't play a tough schedule, but people don't realize how much our conference really prepares us well for tournament time. They've played a lot of good teams, but they hadn't played New Pal." The HHC has some really good, well-coached teams. We just don't see it come to fruition much in November because 6 of the 8 are in the same sectional, but it's produced four state champs in the last decade.

  10. Don't have the cool graphic yet, but lets get this party started! HH won in an expected blowout, congrats to North Harrison on the first sectional in school history and Coach Williamson on his retirement (he was my gym teacher in high school 30 years ago, didn't even know he coached there). Batesville won in a very exciting comeback fashion over Tri West, would love to have seen that one, all I got was the continual updates on MaxPreps. Anyway, for the numbers.....in the HH "glory days" we played Batesville for 5 consecutive years. Batesville 9-3 at Heritage Hills 12-1 3A South semi state This is the 7th meeting between Heritage Hills and Batesville and the Patriots lead the series 6-0. 11. Not bad for the little farm county in NE Indiana to get 2 out of 3 to semi state. Neither will be favored this coming week. 4 years in a row they had a 1A state finalist. Getting it done! What do you say @FlyingHigh @260AC @Thor77? Small town football grows here!

  13. I assume they are eyeballing it. Could you imagine the optics of a grown man with a tape measure on a football field anywhere near the front of a teenage boy's towel? Lord, I apologize for that there.

  15. Well, Jordan Faison is an integral part of Notre Dame's 2-time National Championship Lacrosse squad AND a frequently targeted WR on the football team.

  19. Yea, some of the fans in the end zone are terrible. I stand in the north end zone a lot, and just shake my head. The week we played you guys, I had a good conversation with your kids running the camera because they were confused about the officiating, as was everyone else in attendance for obvious reasons. A game should never run 3+ hours with two running/balanced teams. They listened to my explanations and asked questions. Good bunch of kids you guys helped mold into young men.

  20. My recollection is that the horse collar was in progress. In that situation, really in any situation where there is contact against the passer before or during the passing motion, whether legal or illegal, you assume the errant pass was the result of the contact. So, no foul for intentional grounding.

  22. If only we had use of instant replay, or if coaches even noticed it to challenge. These are things that happens in games every week. The officials cannot and will not see everything. As far as the grass field is, well, probably the reason we have a grass field at Monrovia(and cost), it just gives us an edge now these days that didn't exist a few years ago. Now that alot of teams all have field turf, having to come play on grass is just that much more advantageous.

  23. If it the guy I think your talking about. I don't think he's all there. He was doing something at halftime. At halftime he filmed both teams and saying the Lutheran score. I think anyways that's what he was doing. Didn't pay much attention other than thinking to myself shut the f up

  24. The advantages a minority of p/p schools have over their majority government school counterparts has been debated repeatedly over the years on the GID, so no need to re-elaborate. Superior coaching in a Catholic setting is one of those advantages.

  25. Notice though it's not really AC people complaining but I don't look everywhere to confirm. Heck most years we kept saying we probably could have won 2A instead of 1A during some of the Pioneer, LCC, and now Lutheran runs of 1A. Especially the year Woodlan was in the 2A game and we beat them by 9 or so in the conference championship game to end the regular season.

  29. Agree 100%. We talked about the FG/going for it decision too. My assumption was lack of confidence in kicking on grass. But yes. This post is perfect explanation.

  39. Recruiting in the public schools is way more rampant than in the private schools...at least down here in Indy.
    1 point
  40. I think it was intended as a result of private school dominance. It's been concluded that through socioeconomic factors and open enrollment, that private schools have a major advantage. That being said, there are even some public schools that have been bumped up due to success. And quite frankly, I don't know why any program would want to remain in their enrollment class if they win every year. Sports is about challenging yourselves. Go up and compete with the bigger boys. If you don't win, then go back down.

  44. Sounds like the same as what happened a few miles north in Dunlap. Truly a fantastic game between Concord and Warsaw. The Minutemen have some SERIOUS athletes, and it showed. Everyone will look at the box score and say "wow - Warsaw dominated in the time of possession 40:13 to 7:47" but... While that is technically true, the Tigers also had the ball on offense so much because Concord basically scored at will when they had the ball. Concord 1st drive - 5 plays, throwing an INT on play #4 Concord 2nd drive - 2 plays, 79 yard TD run by Jaron Thomas (Concord led 7-0 with 6:54 left in Q1) Concord 3rd drive - 0 plays, 93 yard TD kickoff return by Char'rese Brevard (Concord led 14-7 with 9:05 left in Q2) Concord 4th drive - 1 play, 73 yard TD run by Char'rese Brevard (Concord led 21-10 with 2:36 left in Q2) Concord 5th drive - 3 plays, unforced fumble on play #3 (Concord led 21-10 with 0:58 left in Q2) TURNING POINT OF THE GAME - THE MINUTEMEN COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY GONE UP 28-10 AT HALFTIME - INSTEAD WARSAW SCORES WITH 0:35 LEFT IN Q2 TO MAKE IT 21-17 Concord 6th drive - 1 play, QB kneel down before halftime (Concord led 21-17 at halftime) Concord 7th drive - 4 plays, 3 & out then punt (Warsaw led 24-21 with 0:21 left in Q3) Concord 8th drive - 3 plays, 54 yard TD run by Jaron Thomas (Concord led 28-24 with 9:17 left in Q4) Concord 9th drive - 1 play, 40 yard multi-lateral, backyard desperation football play to end the game (Warsaw wins 31-28) Again - nothing but impressed with both teams. Concord had an amazing squad this year with some serious talent. The Tigers executed Bart Ball to almost perfection with 1 fumble, a few offensive penalties, but MULTIPLE 4th down conversions to keep those long drives alive. The Minutemen needed just 1 single stop (or no turnover before halftime), and they win the game. Highly recommend everyone watch this replay. https://www.ihsaatv.org/?B=1543571
