Schedule complaints are impossible to validate in College because with only limited amount of NON CONF Weeks to fill, you have to try to project where the team will be talent / skill / competitive wise 3-6 years down the road. So holding IU schedule against them on this type of year is just not fair, Coach Cig didn't create it, it was done multiple years ago, prior to even NIL becoming a thing.

Really?? You would have thought based on the Bud firing (yes, that's what I'm calling it) - that the Admin seem to be "sticklers" for discipline??? Your description seems to describe the opposite? Maybe you just had a bad day or 2 ....

I was hoping to do an informal poll on the preferred method of gathering game/practice film in the current era of high school football. Is a trend developing with schools moving away from tried and true endzone cameras, such as the HI-POD X31, in favor of unreliable drones? Are today's coaches willing to risk safety and lesser quality for the flash and glamor of drones? I don't think it's a coincidence that longtime Indiana coaching legends like Bud Wright, Ott Hurley, Rick Streiff, Dick Dullaghan, Don Howell, Jerry Brewer, Chris Geesman, Bill Sharpe, etc are leaving the game in droves as "drone filming" is being pushed by more school administrations.

You've been critical of Cignetti from the moment he stepped on campus. Called him a "clown" I recall. It doesn't even matter if IU wins a playoff game. This season will go down as one of the greatest turn around stories of all time. It's not like this is a one off, he's won everywhere he's been...........google him.

I planned to include this, and other things, in another thread that specifically references Region 1 but the door was opened for me here... Good Stuff @scarab527 said it well, I mean GARY, IN was literally developed for the purpose of housing steel workers and families, and we all see how when that industry dipped that community did too.

Hearing from a very reliable source we are going to see some changes in the SIAC going forward with what schools are going to be involved. Can't say rumors of who but be prepared for an announcement very soon on some changes.

Can't compare a guy who has won at the highest level to a guy who has won at the FCS level and has had one year of success in the power 4...and you know it. Now, can Cignetti get there in the next few years? Sure. Not gonna dodge Penn State and Oregon and get a down Michigan every season. If we are gonna use "great" to describe Cignetti we need another superlative to describe Harbaugh.

Very much so correlated. Steels the only thing that ever thrived in the Region, and the Region hasn’t recovered since the mills’ decline. Most towns up here aren’t the most affluent, to say the least. And we all know about those free and reduced lunch rates…

I believe Frankfort HS is 57% Hispanic, which is a completely crazy stat for a rural Indiana town. I'm not surprised baskeball and football are struggling there.

Frankfort boys basketball has really fallen on hard times. They lost 87-17 at Westfield last week after losing by 40 to 1A Clinton Prairie.

I figure it's only appropriate to wrap up the PAC 2024 thread with the final Todd Wilkerson show! Obviously, it was an awesome and unforgettable year, but work has already started for 2025. Go Patriots!

No kidding. But it’s all about the kids right? it’s just another example of the Indy-centric thinking by the IHSAA brass. They fail to realize that Indianapolis is a destination point. it’s not just mom and dad, but also grandparents, older siblings, aunts, and uncles, and so forth who are spending a holiday weekend together. They’ve all gathered to watch Johnny play in the state championship. They just want to give him a hug and congratulate him. They may not have the ability to drive back to Fort Wayne, Evansville , Crown Point, etc. it’s no big deal to go back to the high school to celebrate when it is barely past 465. But if it’s a 2+ hour drive away it’s a completely different story.

I I don't blame him, following Brohm turned out to be a mistake. I'm sure he is frustrated. Chris is definitely frustrated with the situation--understandable.

I think what happened is the Mayflowers rolled into town and football became a big deal in Central Indiana. In the north, it always felt more like football country. HSFB was a big, big deal in the Region and Michiana, while the rest of us saw football as something to pass the time until basketball season except in a few pockets (Richmond, Bloomington, Evansville ...). Then, the Colts arrived and football became more of a big deal in the Indy area. Then, some guy named Peyton showed up a decade and a half later. Couple that with the explosion of the township and suburban schools at the same time, and it led to a perfect storm of football's growth in Indy (and, for that matter, you could argue football has eclipsed basketball as the primary sport in a lot of Indy-area communities). I think it's encapsulated by this ... in the mid-1990s, Rex Grossman got in touch with the Florida coaching staff, and Steve Spurrier basically said, "sorry, kid, we don't recruit Indiana." (and then Spurrier saw his film and suddenly, he started recruiting Indiana). Now, there are Indy-area kids all over the place on major programs.

He was a character, that’s for sure. I refereed the 2006 semistate game vs. South Newton. In the middle of the game there was a long pass catch and run down the Sheridan sideline. I saw Coach Bud sprinting down the sidelines, in step with the ball carrier. He tripped, went into a perfect forward roll back up to his feet, and continued on as if nothing had happened. He was 66 yrs. old at the time!

Uphill? I remember in 2011, after LCC had beaten Sheridan in semi-state at LaRocca, I waited by the gate so my son, who was five at the time, and I could be close by to see Coach Wright exit the field. As he passed by, I pointed him out to my son. My son asked, "Who is that guy?" The only answer that came to my lips at that time was, "He's a legend."
