  1. There are going to be positive cases, that was expected, as IHSAA Commish stated here, and what most people understand. Taking it 2 weeks at a time as we approach August.

  2. I played on a 2-8 team in HS. Our fans socially distanced naturally. 😀

  3. It seems odd that this post gets 0 replies and there are a bazillion posts about cancelling/postponing the season.

  4. I think more than a few programs have probably handled cases internally and sharing with parents without it getting to the media...which is as it should be.

  7. Thank you. Our situation here is completely different than south or west.

  8. I’m pretty sure I tried to explain this a few days ago and a couple of blowhards just wanted to rip me up!! Yes, there are precautions/guidelines in place, but NOBODY is following them! You have to wear a mask into the building of an aau tourney and then once you pay (and they get your $$) you can do whatever the hell you want!

  11. No, they aren't. Opening schools to students and offering e-learning is not a delay. Here's what you originally said: Simply not true.

  12. With my boys its lining up on opposite sides of the field and tipping hats to each other and, in the tournaments, either wishing or being wished good luck by the opponent if they are moving into the next round. There have been a couple of games where they did the "elbow bumps."

  13. Great response by IHSAA Leadership. They will receive a lot of pressure from those who want to not start over the next 2-3 weeks. I respect their determination and thoughtfulness to keep moving forward and not panic.

  15. Somewhat to the contrary in recent studies. Some have split the youth level into kids under 10 and those in school older than 10 and have seen differences in transmission potential. A recent study, out of South Korea, showed that, while kids 10 and under seem to transmit at lower levels than adults, kids that are 10-18 seem to transmit at a similar level as adults. Most studies that I've seen in the past have lumped kids into the under 18 age group. It'd be interesting to see what the numbers look like in the Iceland study looks like accounting for further subdivision. Another trend that is starting to show is the number of case appearing in younger people compared to what we saw earlier in the onset. Deaths are not yet tracking at earlier levels, and may not, but hospitalizations are on the upswing again and, in several places, putting healthcare resources under strain ... e.g., over 40 hospitals in Florida are at capacity in ICU beds, Houston has already maxxed out and is accepting adult patients at the children's hospital due to resource constraints, etc. One of the bigger issues that I think tend to get lost in the back-and-forths that I've seen is that folks are looking at the outcome of a study and not the reasoning behind it. For example, there's a recent study out of Germany that says that says that transmission rates are lower for kids, but if you read through the details you see that German schools are practicing mandatory face coverings and social distancing AND as a society, they are doing the same on a very constant basis. Those results really can't be applied to the US moving forward since we don't seem to do social distancing anymore than at a minimal level as well as masking ... and given that those issues are not even treated as health issues anymore and much more about politics, the outputs aren't likely to be replicated with a difference in inputs. Article on older student transmission rate ... https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/18/health/coronavirus-children-schools.html Article looking at increase in younger population, not school age, contraction ... https://www.vox.com/2020/7/18/21328358/covid-19-cases-by-age-florida-arizona-texas-miami Article from German study about school kids and transmission ... https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/14/schools-coronavirus-infection-rate-low-german-study-finds.html Site that allows you to look at groupings by age among other things ... allows you to see changes in hospitalizations over time ... https://gis.cdc.gov/grasp/COVIDNet/COVID19_5.html

  18. I think what the Student Athletes of North Central did with the Video is awsome. Those seniors have been working for years to prepare for this year and to have it taken away for a virus with a 99 percent recovery rate is crazy.

  20. I don’t disagree. But my point is that, wisely or unwisely, some programs suspend operations after a positive test. If they’re doing it now, won’t they also do it during the season, if that’s what they believe is required for public health reasons? Going to be some schedule scrambling, at a minimum.

  21. There are twice as many deaths in America from pneumonia than from Covid under the age of 25 (CDC). These school lockdowns are a complete farce. As soon as the election happens, and especially if Biden wins, we won’t hear about this virus again. How many days will the COVID tracker on CNN last after a Biden win? I say a couple days. In the meantime, our kids are going to turn into criminals, druggies, or worse from idle hands. I can speak for the privates and say there is virtually no chance we don’t return. Most of the Catholics schools would close permanently if we go to E-Learning again. In Cathedral’s case, we’ll be in classrooms in mid-August.

  22. Exactly what we are doing, we have our pods still in place Monday thru Thursday for condition and lifting We will keep the pods in place tonight when we have our full team activity, only difference is we will run our drills with helmet and shoulder pads on. I do not believe we have any desire or need to go 11 on 11 thud or 7 on 7 at any point the next 2 weeks.

  23. As with other facility issues, first, communicate with the AD in the week before your game, and discuss the facilities that are available. If you arrive at a game site and are faced with inadequate facilities, you have the right to refuse to work under those conditions. Or, if you are dissatisfied with the arrangements to be provided, as Just Rules said, come dressed. Whether you choose to work or not, you should inform the IHSAA if it is an unsafe facility.

  28. That’s the problem with the cancel culture...There is no end game! Only about 1% of the population has been exposed to the virus. It will take about 55% to 65% exposure before we could get herd immunity. And no telling when a vaccine will be available or how it will fare. So do you want businesses shut down...no high school sports and live in fear for the next 2 years? 5 years? What’s the end game? If you don’t want to attend games or allow your kids to play, then don’t. It’s a free country...but don’t take these years away from the kids because you are scared. We have to get back to some sort of normalcy. Is it August 21st yet?

  29. Well, if you’re going to do some kind of cost-benefit analysis to determine whether the restrictions are “worth it,” shouldn’t you include all of the “costs“ in the analysis? Death is not the only “cost” associated with COVID-19.

  31. I added to the conversation that was in this thread about schools that have postponed and the July 2nd thread as well, I saw no where that KV had been added or mentioned for that matter, and since you are the lone flag bearer of the Kougars on here, I tagged you, furthermore, KV as you know is the same county and our week 1 opponent, but you already know that, hence the relevance of me posting it. Nothing ODD about that, considering my role in this website, I post all the time about different schools, different players, throughout the entire state. make no mistake about it, I want us back and rolling, however, it is NOT IN MY CONTROL (minus wearing a mask) so I sit back and wait patiently and follow the protocols sent out both state wide and locally. Seems simple to me

  32. This is likely the most inaccurate statement regarding one side of the discussion on the entire thread. From the first line, no one who wants to wait until there are more safety considerations in place thinks kids will stay apart. No one has ever mentioned that there is an unrealistic expectation that kids will isolate. The comparisons you are trying to make here are apples and oranges. What kids do outside for a few hours a day with a handful of friends, is NOTHING like being in a classroom 7 hours a day for 5 days a week, with central air with 30 or so other kids, in a building with a few hundred other kids.

  33. I give no credence to online petitions honestly. I have never signed one, regardless. That said, I think the petition itself and school folks are far more focused on local and State elections than federal, especially in Indiana, and this year since the next Governor gets to appoint the next Superintendent of Public Instruction. The board is already tipped far enough in the wrong direction. That focus was in place even prior to the outbreak.

  34. I fear you’re fighting an uphill battle, my friend. Unfortunately, this is no longer primarily a public health issue. All sides have “weaponized” the pandemic for use in political warfare. So, decisions are often driven by concerns other than public health.

  37. Here is where I think ihsaa is screwing up. Set attendance at on 50% to start the season. Schools should charge $10 to enter instead of $5. I'm not a technology advanced person but can you charge people to watch a YouTube channel? If so stream game and charge each person $10 to watch. I think everyone would be willing to help out the schools by paying 5 extra dollars to have football in fall and also get money to schools that need it.

  38. I agree, but seems that is not case from what I've heard. I'm sure this situation is very fluid and changing so hopefully they have better definition of what happens in future.
