A note for those who don't know. Coaches have limited number of athletes they can nominate for all-state. It can be very difficult to narrow the list down. If your favorite player didn't make the team it can be for a number of reasons that range from being nominated in a LOADED position category, to being on a team with 4-5 other tremendous athletes. It's a difficult thing to do, and the meetings last hours.

Very proud of our 3 Seniors (Holden Bowsman, Jacob Strange & Bryce Brown) who made the 1A team. All 3 of these guys closed out an amazing high school career including going 23-3 these past two seasons including back to back Final Fours. They definitely played well and lead our team with their play and effort. What about Craig Chambers would that be a possible candidate to apply. East side ties as former HC at Howe. He does have HC and Assistant AD jobs currently at Tech. Just tossing a name out there.

There is not near enough members from the 1A title game. I can be a homer and say not enough Starfires on here, but how does Trey Flatt or Michah Wilson for CC not make it? They were some of the best 1A players I have ever seen.

I agree...but my observation down here is that doesn't always equate to fan support...until at least a sectional championship game LOL. You will also find the rural publics very strong in terms of fan support.

I echo this!! I am sure Warran will attract a tremendous application pool to choose from. Coaches make decisions on variety of reasons, none of around these parts would have a clue to those reasons, just saying.

As a St. Louis County born and bred guy. The ONLY thing that ESL is a magnet for is...crime! Oh and great HS sports teams! No one in their right mind is going TO ESL for a sports team....

What is the coaching salary at a Mt. Vernon or New Pal like compared to Warren or BD? The formula for how teacher raises are tied to student enrolled is probably more important. If you're a teacher and not at the top of the pay scale, the only place to be is in a growing school district. How some of these young teacher coaches keep making it work at schools where enrollment is stagnant or heading in the wrong direction beats me. Imagine being hired in at $34K then being told that the only way to increase your salary is if enrollment increases and "New Funds" become available.

Going to chime in quickly......again, I have the same amount of teaching/coaching experience on both sides of this issue. While the makeup of a school’s population is a factor, the real difference is not necessarily the kids that are IN the buildings, but the kids that are NOT in the buildings....and to clarify, I mean the types of kids that are NOT in non public schools.

I am with you 100%. Why have rules at all? Make up crap as you go. Asinine. Scummy. All of it. BIG effed their entire conference and this is what they get. I’ve said it for months. Contact tracing is screwing everything. It’s pointless.

The Hoosiers, if they win out here, have a date with a January 2 bowl game! Big money and recruiting bait. This is way more important to them as a program than what happens with OSU. Let the fun begin!

I wish it were that simple. Unfortunately when there are big time Benjamins involved along with a "national brand" like the OSU Buckeyes rules can and will be changed. Once can hope the other Big 10 AD's will man up, but now it's "party" over the "individual" with a spot in the 4-team playoff on the line.

The cadets will be down after losing most if not all of their playmakers on both sides of the ball. 3-6/4-5 range in the SAC. By the time playoffs come around, I think they’ll get a favorable draw with Norwell losing a good senior class as well and could make a run. Snider and Carroll will battle for the Victory Bell. Dwenger and Homestead will be right behind. Snider is the only one of those 4 that didn’t really lose much to graduation. Snider could legitimately be a threat in 5A. Strong defense, playmakers on offense with a big line. Just need to iron out the Qb situation. As far as Luers goes, I’m not sure why so many are already penciling them in as state champions?? I think in conference Luers next year is 3-6/4-5 like Concordia, with the winner being 4-5 lol. Playoff wise, it’s no gimme. They will most likely have Eastside, Fairfield and Adams Central in their sectional. Regional they’ll see the likes of Eastbrook, Tipton and semi state could see matchups with LCC or Pioneer. All of those teams are capable of beating Luers and very well could if the Knights don’t play 48 minutes of Luers football. All those picking Luers to win it, yes they could but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Not gonna happen. The B1G will amend their rules.

MaxPreps for years referred to Ben Davis as Davis High School. I tried to explain to them that Ben Davis is not named after a person directly but the community of Ben Davis (which barely exists anymore). They never were interested in my many opportunities to correct them. I believe they finally changed the name when the BD girls basketball team had their run to the National Championship in 2009 and they realized no one called Ben Davis just Davis. The community of Ben Davis derives(d) its name from a Vandalia Railroad Executive who got a stop on the railroad for the community. That was the Ben Davis stop and the community became known as Ben Davis.

First of all it's good to hear from the southside PP again. It has been a long silence. It must mean that they are doing well and Cathedral is also doing well, and that's all good. I probably have attended more Indiana High School football games than anyone on this site. That and $5 will get me a Starbucks special. I have never seen one player mean so much to his team than Nathan McCaill has against such a top notch schedule. I don't have to repeat that schedule because it has been rehashed here a lot already. I'm not much on stats on a player's worthiness, I much prefer my own eyeball test. These old eyeballs have seen few QB's have a better season than Nate. His leadership has been incredible. Now it's true that I'm prejudiced and an Irish fanboy, but I've never been one to be blinded by partisanship when it comes to accolades. If a player is outstanding I like to believe I am quick to acknowledge that. I'm sure Nate is the kind of young man that treasures a championship ring more than is own personal rewards and he has that, and so does his teammates. They have those rings because of their hard work and the leadership of Nathan McCahill. Well, I shouldn't forget the leadership of our great coaching staff either. It's been a fun season and I was blessed to attend most of the games. I don't understand the vote for the Mr. Football position award for QB. There's a lot of things I don't understand but I know that there are a lot of those that voted for this award post on this site, and I would like for them to help me understand their vote or the reasoning behind theirs and other's decision. We all know life isn't always "fair" (there's that word) but there are times when we just need to know "why." I hope everyone has a very blessed Immaculate Conception Day!

All the MIC schools are the New IPS. When Broad Ripple, Northwest, Arlington, etc shuttered, all their students sprawled to edges of Marion County. Regardless of their size, these MIC schools are going to struggle. The patience level you need for a successful program at these schools is much to handle for coaches wanting a “destination”. I watched one of the most successful coaches in Indiana Wrestling, Jim Tonte, leave a 15 year Perry Meridian legacy to go to Warren, get a sizable pay raise, win a state title, and then vacate the role for Franklin in under 4 years.

Obvious coaches for WC job: 1) Kyle Ralph - You all know why. BUT, I think now is a great time for Ralph to move on. I'm sure he could bring most of his assistants with him as well since both schools are close geographically... 2) Mike Kirschner - WC alum and maybe he misses the "grind" Not so obvious: 3) Justin Pelley (Webo) - he can clearly coach ball with 3 state championships. Does he want a taste of the MIC 4) Darrin Fisher (Whiteland) - he could really run his offense at a place like WC 5) Nick Hart (Gibson Southern) - 9th year at GS and seems like a guy WC could have for 10+ years

I don’t think anyone is going to argue that McCulley isn’t the more talented player with more potential at the next level and beyond, but if the award is supposed to go to the senior that played the QB position the best in 2020, it’s McCahill and it’s not really close.

Not even close to being accurate. College scholarships are awarded based on college potential. High school awards should be based on high school achievements.

Why shouldn’t it be? Steele is a fantastic player playing on the best/ most loaded team in the state. Put him on another team is he as dominant? I think that Fisher would be the same force regardless of where he is playing.

Love the McCahill kid. Great HS dual threat QB. I will say his stats are inflated due to their Jet Sweep being run as a "pass" in the statbook. Makes those TDs, yards passing, And completion % appear way better than reality.

This. And it’s not spin, it’s fact. To even put IU and PU in the same sentence concerning recruiting at this moment in time is laughable. Brohm can no doubt recruit, but Tom Allen is the media darling right now. HS kids all over the country are seeing how much his players love playing for him. Brohm is trying to recapture the past traditions at Purdue. Tom Allen is completely changing the culture of IU football. I doubt Indiana will ever win a national championship, but they can be a consistent 9-10 win team and go bowling every year. Kids see this. It makes Bloomington a desirable destination.

Well, I will say this. If nothing else has come of our new 1A Champion this year when looking at various social media platforms (including the GID on multiple occasions), it has confirmed to me that Americans no longer know or, apparently, care how to spell. It is “Covenant”....C...O...V...E...N...A...N...T. Geez people.

I understand where you are coming from, but as I look at this, it's a school/coach issue as much as it is a kid issue. Football is a team sport and while folks get heated in the course of a play and sometimes right after a hit you shove someone or say something, no one should ever feel that they have a right, green light, ability, or anything else to leave the sideline like that, run across the field, and strike someone else. Youth ball may be different than high school ball, but frankly it shouldn't be. I've coached 18 seasons of youth ball and never, in all of my years of coaching, ever had to worry about any of my players talking back to ref, pitching a fit on the field, striking another player after a play even if they were hit first, etc. In every season we have a couple early practices long before we ever play our first game where I sit the kids down and tell them exactly what I expect their behavior to be and exactly what I expect it not to be. We talk about not talking back to a ref or questioning a call. We talk about if they have an issue they tell me about it and I'll talk with the ref or the other coach. We talk about always walking away if you are struck after a play and letting the refs and me worry about what will happen. We also talk about helping the opponent up after a tackle and, if offered a hand up by an opponent accepting that offer even if you took a big hit. We also talk about the fact that they are part of something bigger and that their actions, both on and off the field, are not just reflective upon themselves, but also reflective of their teammates, their coaches, their program, and their schools. Then as part of the talk before the first game I remind them of that and add one more thing, "To act like you've been there before. Be humble in victory, and gracious in defeat." I love it when my kids perform on the field, but I love it just as much when they respect the game, the refs, the opponents, and their own teammates. And my players all know that and know without a doubt exactly how I expect them to play and to act. It's a harsh thing to have happen, but if it happened on one of my teams, I would hold no ill will against the association and I would explain it to my team that the fault was mine and the player's for not doing a better job looking out for our team.

In the battle for Mr. Football it should be brought to attention that a certain school runs Jet Sweep as a pass play, and it totally inflates the TD Passes and Passing Yardage and Completion % numbers. Just saying!
