  1. Maybe all the GS haters should worry about improving on their programs, instead of worrying and bad mouthing what GS is doing

  2. For the guys who just “hate” that GS is having a “super team” this year and say that they are having a dominant season because of the transfer ins… I say get over it! even if they didn’t get a few transfer ins, GS still would be as good as they are now with these guys. its called “program buy in” and they started this at the lower levels and follow through middle school into high school. im not sure now, but I can recall their 6 th grade boys traveling in “summer fball “ team camps many years ago, So in other words, when many schools are off in the summer, their youngsters are working tails off—- so when school does start - their boys are already a level or two ahead of their pac competition. same with jv -varsity , they put similar work in 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 all off season. More than most schools. GS fans have expected this yrs “super team” to be super back when they were in 6th grade…so GS people and some of us at HH and other PAC schools knew this was the team!! GS needs to be fired up now and enjoy… as when Allen heads off to Purdue… they won’t be as good as this current team… as not every player will be a Brady Allen! They will still be good going forward, that’s because GS built a solid program. GS has only won 3 sectionals and 3 regionals … with their last coming like 6 years ago… so if I were on this team, or a fan at this school, I’d be going crazy too, as this team has the ability to get to Lucas Oil for a State Title game…. Something GS has never been a part of In Football. And if they do make it, I will be pulling for them… they have worked hard as a program to get to this point. GS only makes other schools get better. we have heard this for years at HH (that playing HH made teams) as from 2000 to 2010, HH had won 9 sectionals and 7 regional championships. HH then fell on the downside for quite a few years then fell short in semistate in 2014 and got back to State in 2019…. GS is on the right path, this is their year… and if my Patriots can’t knock them off in the sectionals… I will be pulling for GS … they deserve !

  4. Only had this scenario happen once in my career. And the offending team knew EXACTLY why it was 1st and 25. It got quiet as HE double hockey sticks from then on!

  8. Now you’re starting to piss me off. Sorry but this team was built from 1st grade on. This senior group met EVERY Sunday year around at 4 pm at GS weightroom starting in 4th grade all the way until their freshman year. They won Castle as 4th and 5th graders. Beat North’s 6th grade as 5th graders. Won Titan Clash as 6th graders. Went undefeated in middle school. Most were running clocks in 2nd half. Lost only 1 game of 6 games in 2 years of going to Knoxville TN tournament. We beat your Southridge team as 7th graders by scoring on each of our first 7 plays. 7 plays …7 TDs. I’ve been with this group since 1st grade, every Sunday in the weightroom, coaching each travel game and middle school game. I know how much work they’ve put in waiting for this year. We have lost at least 5 contributors in this class since they’ve started their freshman year. Sorry but without any new kids, every game in the PAC this year would have been a running clock. I don’t believe Southridge would have turned kids down if they bought houses and moved into their district. I know Memorial, Central, HH, and North don’t. This is a very tight senior group. I think you’ll see that as the football season continues, into basketball, and then baseball.

  10. For those who have never seen it, here is the complete text of the Mercy Rule, which went into effect April 29, 2019: IHSAA Football Mercy Rule The Indiana High School Athletic Association in cooperation with the Indiana Football Coaches Association have created a protocol to expedite the conclusion of football contests when the point differential between schools reaches a particular threshold. These measures are placed to promote proper sportsmanship between member schools and potentially reduce the chances of injury to student athletes when mismatches between teams occur. Rules and Procedures 1. Beginning with the second half of any high school football game, when the point differential between teams is at or reaches 35 points, the game clock shall convert to a running clock. A running clock is defined as a clock that does not stop during play with the exception of timeouts, scores and/or injuries. 2. Once the running clock is implemented, the clock may not revert back to standard timing protocols regardless of the score of the contest. 3. The 40 second play clock shall remain in effect throughout the contest. 4. Coaches do not have the ability to override the implementation of the Mercy Rule during a contest. The Referee shall notify the head coach of each school when the Mercy Rule goes into effect. The home team is responsible for notifying timing personnel of the running clock.

  11. Doesn’t matter, This game should have never been played. Was a waste of time for both schools and anyone involved knew the outcome of this.. This game could have been 180-0 if Lawrenceburg wanted it to happen.

  12. There is only one person (2, I guess, if you count the Commissioner, who has ultimate authority) at the IHSAA with the authority to offer an official interpretation of the National Federation football rules, and that is Asst. Commissioner Robert Faulkens. He has told me personally, face to face, unambiguously, that since the implementation of the Mercy Rule, that is the exclusive manner in which timing rules may be altered. The whole idea was to take the “coaches’ agreement” out of it. There, I named my source. You name yours.

  13. I think Carroll is a Top 20 team regardless of class. No way they are the second best team in 6a. We'll see how good they are if they get by Homestead again and play Westfield.

  14. First time I’ve watched Pittsburgh in a while, and I was shocked by the deterioration in Roethlisberger. He was so inaccurate. His mechanics have completely deserted him.

  18. Some additional facts that Cow Bell didn’t include. I was at the game Friday night. When it was 77-0 with 1:30 to go in 1st half and Lburg got the ball back after another Rushville fumble, they could have knelt on it and went to half up 77. First play, they rolled QB out and threw back across field for a screen play, which went for TD butwas called back due to penalty. Lburg scored next play. 2nd half, Lburg did continue to throw the ball with their younger players and did go for it on multiple fourth downs. I would call those three things over the top and more than trying to just get the game over. I will leave everyone else to judge that with their own opinion. That is Coach Knigga’s decision to make and he has built a hell of a program. Honestly, the score could have been worse and it could have been managed to be a little bit more eye appealing to people, but the game was never going to be close. I actually expected a score of around 70-0. With that said, you won’t hear much crying from this poster. It’s our job to get better at Rushville. We are in the cusp of a rebuild that will take multiple years. We have a new young coach willing to work hard. New weight room opened 3 years ago and he has best numbers in weight room we have seen in years and the progression in the last 12 months in there has been astronomical. JV has won 2 games for first time in several years as well. 7th grade team is very competitive. Varsity was dealt a tough blow in week 1 when 3 year starting QB and 3 year staring center were lost for the season with injuries. Friday night they played without I believe 5 additional starters including leading rusher and best defensive player. Could it have been handed better? Definitely. But there was no reason to not play the game.

  21. I don't have any pictures, but we were on it on Friday, very soft. Well done by whomever put it in. Its also two different shades of green every five yards which makes for a unique appearance.

  22. Oddly enough, neither coach questioned the down and distance after we marked it off. And to be perfectly honest, I couldn’t understand why an assistant coach would be assessed a USC after getting a DPI and a first down.

  24. LCC vs. Seeger in Sectional 37. Despite hailing from Lafayette, LCC was placed in 2A South due to their 2A Success Factor movement. LCC and Seeger last met in 1A back in 2006 when the Brian Moore-led Patriots beat the Knights in the second game of sectionals 30-22. Shortly after, Seeger grew into 2A. If LCC makes it out of Sectional 37, potential match-ups with ghosts of football seasons past could see LCC squaring off against against former 1A foes, Eastern Hancock and LOS opponent, Scecina, and 2A former regular season opponent, Heritage Christian. If the stars align correctly, there could be a re-match of LCC-Linton who last met in 1A at LOS in 2015. With that conjectured, there's PLENTY more football and LOTS of star-aligning that has to take place for these to happen. That always ends up in the Sectional of Death. The only thing missing this season is that Chatard's sitting up in 4A this season

  27. Cincinnati was (by far) the better team yesterday. A combo of turnovers, bad OL play, bad QB play, and big plays given up on defense finally caught up with the Irish and it finally showed up on the scoreboard. Kudos to the bearcats.

  32. Considering how long IU’s defense was on the field (35 minutes) I thought they played very well. The offense is just a continuation of last year…. zero running attack and a pocket passer that can’t run. It’s going to be 4-6 more recruiting classes before this thing gets totally fixed, but they will get there. On a side note, not impressed with Penn State. I don’t think they can beat Iowa or OSU, maybe only split the Michigan schools. I guess we’ll find out starting next week.

  34. No Football, but Crothersville FFA is the best pork burgers and I’ll fight anyone who says differently. I can attest to the steak sandwiches at Rushville, and suffering they the game, a fat guy who hasn’t had supper yet, smelling them as they’re cooked in the south EZ.

  35. Overpass is the best pizza in the WRC hands down. It’s not close. I keep my ratings to WRC Pizza King establishments because I love the franchise and tradition. If you’re looking for a good slice, check out Manolo’s on campus at U of I. Good pizza, but the empanadas are top shelf. The dessert empanadas are a must.

  36. Rushville should have never taken the field for this game. Everyone wants to point the finger at Lawrenceburg. I remember a few years ago when New Pal and Shelbyville came to an agreement not to play that game. Same can be said for this game. Anyone involved in this game knew the outcome before the game was even played. Both schools are at fault for what occurred, point blank. The additional 24 teaches you about as much as the first 24.. The game shouldn’t have been played.

  37. Ben Davis opened the season with Bloomington South back in 1995 and 1996. They also met in semi-state from 1997-1999. Maybe that’s where the confusion came from.

  38. Pyne gave the Irish a chance, but actually the Irish had their behinds handed to them today. The turnovers made it easier for the Bearcats but after the opening drive and terrible interception, the life was gone from them. I hope to never see Jack Coan behind an Irish center again! I know that won't happen but Coach BK needs to take a lot of heat for his decision making, or non making, today. Pyne is clearly the best of the three Irish QB's.

  39. I read the scoring plays but the time left in the quarter is not accurate so I cannot tell how it happened, especially since there were not pick sixes. All offensive TDs. When it is 63-0 in the first quarter, how about we run the ball. They threw a 35 yard TD to go up 70-0.

  40. I would never suggest that anyone just "give up". But it wouldn't have been out of the question for the trailing team to 'assess' the situation, and think about just whether or not an Education Based athletic event is best served in the long run with a potential 100+ point loss. The clock cannot run until the 2nd half, and it was 90-0 at that point. What is the motivation at that point for either institution? I don't have an answer, but I just am befuddled.

  42. Looking at these predictions, now I understand why they put GS at #2 in the area power rankings. They don’t have a clue! Hendrix thinks it’ll be a 8 point game and Kyle 12…lol. Dudes have never made a tackle in their life unless you count tackling that chocolate long john in the break room!

  43. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate reading this post! I am doing what I do BOTH in the classroom and on the football field because of him. He was my Papaw! He was a larger than life character who was also an All-American high school player at Central and was then named the 1952 NCAA Freshman of the year as the QB at Vanderbilt. He became a lifelong Bears fan because of their willingness to take a chance on him in the draft, and his injuries were actually sustained while a member of the Toronto Argonauts. He was never able to play a professional game, but if you talk to any of the few that are left, who were able to see him play, they will tell you that he is in the conversation of the GREATEST players to ever come out of Evansville. Below is a single play from his freshman season, but we are lucky enough to actually have this Vandy v. Florida game in its entirety in our possession! Thank you SO much for this post! IMG_2348.3gp

  45. I don’t agree. Remember, Coan is not “his” senior. He’s a grad transfer who has been in the program no longer than TB, and less time than Pyne.

  50. I ate food from the Parke Heritage concession stand and it made me crap in my pants by the end of the 1st quarter. When the Wolfs scored the first touchdown of the game, the fireworks display overstimulated me and the poop came cascading out like hot buttered lard through a sieve. It was a steamy August evening, perfect weather for wearing shorts. There were a couple of kids playing under the bleachers beneath me. The sounds of their confused and disgusted screams will haunt me for all of my earthly days.
