Many great memories of Coach Wright and Blackhawk vs Bombers back in early 2000's. A wonderful Chili pre game with @Ballhawk A Purdue Football Clinic where Coach Wright about choked on a chicken wing when someone at the table was talking about one of their kids running a 4.4 40.......coach leaves, then he mutters, "Brett Law never ran a 4.4, no way that kid is a 4.4". Always competing !! I hope Coach wins another ring with Carmel (if that is where he winds up)

He was a character, that’s for sure. I refereed the 2006 semistate game vs. South Newton. In the middle of the game there was a long pass catch and run down the Sheridan sideline. I saw Coach Bud sprinting down the sidelines, in step with the ball carrier. He tripped, went into a perfect forward roll back up to his feet, and continued on as if nothing had happened. He was 66 yrs. old at the time!

Bud’s old superintendent from North Miami, (who stood a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier) told him he didn’t have what it took to be a head varsity football coach back in the mid 60’s. He kicked that guy’s keister, as well as most of Sheridan’s opponents the last 60 years.

I think what happened is the Mayflowers rolled into town and football became a big deal in Central Indiana. In the north, it always felt more like football country. HSFB was a big, big deal in the Region and Michiana, while the rest of us saw football as something to pass the time until basketball season except in a few pockets (Richmond, Bloomington, Evansville ...). Then, the Colts arrived and football became more of a big deal in the Indy area. Then, some guy named Peyton showed up a decade and a half later. Couple that with the explosion of the township and suburban schools at the same time, and it led to a perfect storm of football's growth in Indy (and, for that matter, you could argue football has eclipsed basketball as the primary sport in a lot of Indy-area communities). I think it's encapsulated by this ... in the mid-1990s, Rex Grossman got in touch with the Florida coaching staff, and Steve Spurrier basically said, "sorry, kid, we don't recruit Indiana." (and then Spurrier saw his film and suddenly, he started recruiting Indiana). Now, there are Indy-area kids all over the place on major programs.

Coach Wright never wanted to leave the Hoosier Conference either but was out voted by other members of the athletic dept back in the day , he wanted to continue to compete against LCC

Armed with his dangerous wire cutters, never knew at that time the importance they would play to the 2023 comeback! You can't fathom the Acts of Contrition completed going on that Friday night for Saturday's game!!

Maybe Coach Salah simply thrives in a "small town". "Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town and people let me be just what I want to be"

I would stay away from this job until the current AD leaves at least.

I'm going to say this again! Alabama doesn't deserve to even be in consideration after losing to Vanderbilt, 40-34 and a weak Oklahoma team 24-3! It'll be a shame if they are included, and I don't want to hear about the SEC and their exclusivity!

The Sheridan community needs to do what a fellow conference school's community did a few years ago. Community was upset with fb coach and Athletic Director, voted the school board out, and the 1st thing the new board did was push out the AD and football coach. But at least this gives the town something else to talk about besides their monthly water bills.

Would have been some real barn burners! IMO, that 2011 semi-state game was the state championship game that year.

That won't do them any favors. The community is mad at the school for this, and now the School Board will likely take just as much blame. The community is sad, mad, livid, every emotion in the world. He deserved better than this.

I think they would be a nice addition to the Small Division. After Southridge makes the transition North Posey is going to need some competition or they'll run away with it every year. Most of the small schools in there are hit and miss year to year, so adding another chance for competition seems logical.

I'm on the fence regarding Vrabel. I think he would immediately change the culture and take control of the locker room. A group of players, lead by Johnson and Brisker, just learned they can't their way if they squawk enough. But, like you alluded to, pair CW with a good OC and then the OC is likely leaving for a HC job. Great point on Johnson. I would say in comparison to Nagy he's actually calling the plays whereas Nagy wasn't with Reid. But, can Johnson take control of an entire team and look good without Detroits OL? Johnson is also reportedly very selective about who he would leave Detroit for. Maybe he's aware of some weaknesses that would get exposed in Chicago. Love Brady for his resume. No idea if the guy could actually lead as a HC. Out of the list above I'd be contect with either of them. Though I think Warren marked his territory in that presser and made it clear that he's running the show with Poles providing input. From what I've heard from Chicago media guys is that Warren commands attention in every room he's in. I have a feeling he's going to go the route of hiring someone like himself, which would point to a Vrabel or Flores type of guy. Honestly, the more I hear from Warren the more I feel like he sounds like a politician. He should stick to trying to build a new stadium and let Poles do his job as GM.

He was the only one in the stands on the Chartard side 30 minutes prior to the game...with an army of maroon and gold on the other side LOL. The irony that is was like 70 degrees on Friday night.

I see DALE DEWEES all the time around ball games and of course the Golf Course !!! Bombers have long long long history going back to 1898, I believe we still are 11th or 12th overall in total wins in the state

Kevin Wright has taken the Head Coaching position at Carmel. So that decision has already been made. For any coach that gets hired to take the Sheridan HC job they will have some big shoes to fill. As @Bobref mentioned they might want to work on their tumbling/gymnastics skills too.

Cathedral beat Bishop Chatard 31-7, at BC. New Pal also beat Bishop Chatard but had to scuffle to do so. 6A is a tough go. Oh, and we'll get to see the New Pal prowess in 5A next year. I'm sure they'll be their normal best, but Cathedral has a lot of good players returning. We shall see.

Huh? I think you forgot about Snider's four touchdown win over DC last year. Warsaw being within a touchdown halfway into the fourth quarter isn't competitive? That's two years running. Geeeesh.

They were electric! RC beat West Lafayette 40-0 that year. Rensselaer was ranked 14th in the UP poll at the end of the year. Wave Myers was the coach at RC. Gary Mau, Dale Dewees, and George Clouse were the best players for RC in 1954. There were a lot of good teams in northern Indiana in the 1950's.

I know and it is still 3,059 between Carmel and Jeffersonville 3,092 if you toss Valpo and Warsaw back into 6A. That is triple what the 5A I propose being at about 1,000 Stop peeing on my parade Coach!! Nothing but love my guy.

Nothing says more about the irrelevancy of 5A than the fact the fact that the 5th-7th team in 4A (Martinsville) beat the 5A State Champion team. Not to be overtly political, and I know this might well piss off several friends of mine here, but the simple existence of 5A is literally the DEI of Indiana HS Football. Its an embarrassing class. Sorry....an "also ran" award for teams that couldn't win 4A or 6A (Snider excepted).
