The U in the offensive backfield is a LOT more work for the U. And a good U is already the official who moves the most during the course of a game. The big, slow guy who can sometimes get away being in the middle will NOT be able to work in the offensive backfield. Bobref mentioned the other big disadvantage to doing this and that is the gap in the middle. So much of the umpire's job is game management, using his voice after plays, talking to OL/DL/LB in the middle to keep the temperature low. That generally goes away because he's not there having those conversations. The U plays a key role in helping with quick passes in the flat or over the middle because he has the inside out view and a better look if those passes skip or are bobbled. The only advantage to the U in the offensive backfield is the safety issue (it is very dangerous in there) and you can see the holds and hands to the face much easier from the offensive side. There honestly aren't that many holds in the middle though. They are usually on the edges or open field on kick plays. To me the advantages weigh to the current position. The NFL would LOVE to move the U back, but they moved it for safety reasons, and they would not be able to reverse that because it would be saying they don't care about the safety of the U.3 points

NY MEDIA who had never played the game at the highest level mind you.......... An organization that didn't build well around him with OL, you see that with Barkley and his output vs his output with Giants So much more always goes into it, but that doesn't create $$$$$$$$. for those who leach of professional athletes for their income2 points

"Beefing up" ones schedule is not nearly as simple as it would appear. Sometimes simply getting an opponent, any opponent, is a small miracle. When programs can do it, "beefing up," it obviously is ideal: see Seeger picking up West Lafayette years ago when they were in their hey-day in the early 00s, but sometimes it is simply not possible. Part of this is due to the way conferences have gone to scheduling: the WRC now, like the old Sagamore did years ago, has gone to a format whereby all of your non-conference games have to be in weeks 1 and 2. I am not entirely sure of the rationale for this, though I could hazard a guess, but the result is that schools become limited in their options for those non-conference games.2 points

CG had money and resources prior to Coach Moore. I find it odd that you would have Coach Ralph on a top 3 list but not Coach Moore. Center Grove before Eric Moore in 26 seasons snap shot: 137-122 with 1 Regional Title Center Grove with Eric Moore in 26 seasons snap shot: 259-81 with 18 Regional Titles, 8 Semi-State Titles, 5 State Titles A very impressive resume coming to CG and he was 48-5 at Charlotte HS in Florida where he was 2 times named coach of the year in Florida. In my opinion he is a hard lock in top 3 coaches.2 points

They didn’t when he built that program from the ground up. He was a very successful coach in Florida prior.2 points

Such an incredibly hard position to play at the highest level along with the unreasonable expectations put on these players so early as well. So many are so quick to annoit QBs busts or chosen ones....... takes so much to be successful at that position and many of those items have zero to do with QB themselves1 point

If Bloomington South and Terre Haute South isn’t the closest game of the four then I’ll be shocked. I don’t think Columbus North stands a chance of keeping it within 28.1 point

I was a fan of Jones in college, and before anyone knew the name of Jordan Love, I felt like Jones would be a great fit for the offense Green Bay has. He has Rodgers' ability to move around the pocket and Favre level arm strength when throwing. I am happy for him to see him doing well to start here and think the confidence he is gaining will only make him better.1 point

No...it doesn't bother me that Carroll had some good hits during the game. I would expect this...as I would when CG plays Warren, Carmel, BD, Brownsburg, etc. You didn't say Carroll was competitive...you stated.... Your statement wasn't accurate. I don't care if you were in the stands or watching at home. Carroll hung in there for almost 3 quarters and CG opened it up. CG never trailed in this game. Carroll got a late score when the game was decided to make it look closer than the 11 point spread. You keep referencing the physicality of Carroll, while not acknowleding their D, also gave up 500+ yds of offense. 300+ of those yds were rushing. That doesn't sound like an incredible D. Congrats on some "hard tackling"....my guess if you go back and look at the stats, the Carroll safeties racked up most of those tackles. No one is "triggered"...just pointing out some embellishment. Would Wright ever take a job at a school of 2500? Not sure. Coach Moore took one at a school <2500. He's done pretty dang good. CG and Westfield are #16 and #18 respectively....both less than 2900.....they are 2 of the elite state programs. Carroll and Homestead pretty close to them.1 point

My wife and I were Racer season ticket holders and rabid fans of the team back in the 1970's. I will always cherish those days as I was privileged to see Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Davey Keon and many more greats, granted in the twilight of their careers but they still had some skills. I also saw some up and coming stars like Marc Tardiff, and of course Wayne Gretzky. We were witnesses to Gretzky's first professional goal, something to remember. Whether Indy is capable of supporting an NHL franchise, is anyone's guess. I'm too old to even worry about it. I still watch a lot of NHL games and try to follow the league the best I can. It's an amazing sport to watch in person. I also enjoy watching on TV, but I hear a lot of folks say it's difficult to follow the puck. Even at my advanced age I find that not the case for me. I just watch wherever the players are grouped, or where they're heading.1 point

I thought MD won the line of scrimmage, for the most part. And that disrupted a lot of what Memorial wanted to do on offense.1 point

I just went back and looked at the last 5 years of Carroll football and this is easily the worst team they have had. All of the Sullivan led teams were really good, offensively and defensively. Speed was abundant and they were 4-1 vs. Snider as well and Snider had some really good teams including a state title team. Memory sometimes slips, but the Becker led teams were pretty damn good as well. It has been the Snider/Carroll dominated conference for years and it will most likely continue for years to come. I will say I expected a lot more from Snider this year, but the issue with 19 players and the subsequent possible lawsuit has left the team not at full strength. You then have players who were expected to be major contributors has led to the current results.1 point

From my understanding they saw North & South Putnam, Maconaquah, Linton, Southmont & Seeger this past summer at various single and multi team scrimmages. Maybe a few more, not sure. I've seen them down at Linton for the past several summers. Yes, it matters. Summer scrimmages are a great way to challenge your team and see their progress. FC will reap the benefits of solid competition by the end of the season.1 point

Memorial, North and Reitz get the "bye" this week. I predict none will give up any scores until the JV enters the game. Castle beats Lincoln 27-13. GOTW is the Wildcat fight at Reitz Bowl. There were 4 big plays in the last 80 seconds last week that MD failed to make, which allowed Memorial to get the improbable OT W. I suspect it's been a good week of practice on Harmony Way. MD will bounce back with a 24-10 win over Jasper. So here is my question... When will the SIAC decide that 2 divisions in football would greatly benefit the hapless Bosse, Central and Harrison programs? At a combined 1-11, their only chance at winning comes when they play each other (Central got its W against Bosse). They hardly have any lower-level teams (cub/frosh). Every year its "we are young at most positions", which means little retention from year to year. You can't hardly blame the kids, nobody wants to put in the work just to get your @$$ handed to you every week. The coaches sound positive on the weekly shows, but what can they do? Put the 5 EVSC schools in 1 division and Castle, Jasper, Mater Dei and Memorial in the other. None of those 4 schools really want to play Central, Harrison or Bosse.1 point

Cascade has a chance. Their offense is very good and quick hitting and their defense has come a long way too. As for the schedule they are where they need to be right now. Cascade through its history has only had two Era's of winning (more than two seasons in a row with winning records) Moyers and now Simmons. With the schedule as it sits, they will generate year in and year out success which will grow the program even more at the youth level and help them compete in the larger classes down the road. As a Cascade grad (07) I'm glad to see them able to field teams in all sports that can compete.1 point

I'm just being a d*** right now. But Carroll did have a few hits that reverberated around the stadium. Never really saw much of that from Center Grove. They just kill you with precision and know how to win football games. But at the end of the day, Indy people get butt hurt when their teams aren't the center of attention. Kinda like when the Fort Wayne team won the 7 on 7 national title down at the IMG academy. Crickets. Had that been an Indy team, there would have been 40 pages here claiming Indy football is the greatest thing since sliced bread.1 point

Again, I’m aware of what Eric Moore has done in Florida and Indiana. If there’s anything I may have mistaken it’s the community of which Center Grove belongs to. Have there really always been money and resources there? The impression I got is that it only developed over the last 20-25 years there. I was a kid in the 90s and a teen through most of the 2000s. I had always heard about Carmel back then but Center Grove, and the area as a whole, was never mentioned.1 point

Agreed! The fact that they haven't played one minute of any 2nd half all season without a running clock will not bode well for us in October.1 point

Completely agree with that. However, he can almost rest on his laurels at this point because of the money and resources that school now enjoys. I put him in the top 10 but it’s hard for me to say top 3.1 point

Well I accidentally hit accept on EL, looks like I’m headed to Madison Saturday morning as well. I told the bus driver not to wait on me. I’m sure there’ll be a trip to the Red Pepperoni after and I’ll probably enjoy a cigar on the way home.1 point

I'm not too versed with New Pal's school make up, but if any kids were crossing county line they're likely coming from Warren or Franklin townships. As New Pal continues to grow so will the demographics. That's a good thing, I believe they are set up well for the long run.1 point

BDawgs, BDawgs, Dawgs 1.2..or 11 to be exact...... Since you want to talk about the PAST, here are some FACTS..... 22 Sectional Championships just to name a few........ 6 Regional Championships to your....well not "2" 3 Semi-State Titles to a, well BIG ZERO State Runner-Up, here are the years for you 1976, 1985, 2016, 2022 1975 & 1978, put a ring on it - which the Dawgs never do! Speaking on ending season, the Dawgs have wasted a few.... At least the Tigers have never lost a sectional with MLB dudes!1 point

Coach Marshall - I believe it’s pretty widely known RP had a two year home/home with North Put this year in week 2 and next but NP canceled late due to their new conference. The only 1A/2A/3A open dates for week two were Edinburgh or at Lake Station on central time on a Friday night. It could have been Saturday, but those are reserved for SV on raining Friday nights, so RP took the Edinburgh game. Truth be told, the Edinburgh game was offered to PH to swap for WV in week two and declined. Hope this helps build your case for a “solid” year. And don’t call me Surely.1 point

Danny Dimes is an interesting case study. Prior to the Colts, his lifetime stats mirror Trevor Lawrence. But Jones got peppered, perhaps by a much bigger and more aggressive media. Systems have a huge impact...Jones now has a line, has receiver options, along with a running game. Can't underestimate Steichen's influence on the offense. So far, Jones is flourishing. (obviously he will have some bad days) Jones and AR play in the exact system...one with experience is playing well....one has historically struggled with reads and accuracy. Will that change? Maybe? Maybe not. I agree there is still an open book for AR. But not as open as it was a couple years ago.1 point

Week 5, Halfway through already? Attica @ Fountain Central - There may be another win or two waiting for the Ramblers this year. But unfortunately, this is not the week. The Mustangs are just too dang big up front. They handled the previously undefeated Trojans last week. FC 35 Attica 18 Riverton Parke @ North Vermillion. What a difference a year makes. The Panthers look to continue their WRC run. The Falcons are looking for their first win. This is also not the week for that. RP Wins Seeger @ Parke Heritage - The Patriots were definitely humbled last week. Can they bounce back this week? The Woolfs are slowly building their case. But I'm not so sure they're as good as they think they are. Seeger 28 PH 14 South Vermillion @ Covington - The Wildcats are in the same category as PH. How good are they, really? This week will go a long way in answering that question. The Trojans were beat up last week by FC. Can they right the ship? This one should be close. SV 27 Cov 261 point

Because it was a 14x convicted black man killing a legal Ukrainian, white female immigrant who went on to say, “I got that white girl.” It was completely racially motivated and doesn’t fit the liberal, propaganda MSM’s brainwashing plan.1 point
