  3. Gotcha. Lot of work to be done if they do implement 8-man. I wish the coaches would be surveyed over co-op football though. I think that could be a great addition to the struggling numbers in rural areas.

  4. There are any number of issues I take with any comparison of the US to Scandinavian countries. First and foremost is scale. Sweden for example is about the size of California. Yet has a population of less than 9 million people. Scandinavian countries are not big on immigration or accepting refugees. Yes personal taxes are somewhat high, but what makes the whole thing work is free markets. Low corporate taxes, less regulations, less government manipulation of the markets. https://medium.com/@freemarketserge/the-swedish-myth-how-free-market-reforms-saved-sweden-8d3bf24fb91f

  5. The comments about farming and manufacturing by Bloomberg are illustrative of what created Trump, and obvious that the D party has not learned any lessons from 2016. What I have seen of the debates, and stump speeches by all of them clearly show they're pandering to people where they're already going to win. Honest question does Bernie's message play in OH, PA, MI, WI, states anyone has to win?

  6. And therein lies the rub ... in your second line you stated that the SCHOOLS DECIDED that football is not part of their athletic menu. DECIDE!!!! You've been pitching out policies about what should mandate or force schools to contract or shutter their programs. It's their decision and should be theirs alone. And now it's the growing power of women in the household having a detrimental impact on Indiana football? Seriously? What's next? An attempt to "contract" the 19th Amendment?

  7. They all live in Western Boone school district, they all attended either Granville Wells or Thorntown Elementary as elementary age kids. To be honest, I am not sure there is a kid on the 64 man 2019 roster that lives outside the Western Boone School District.. What’s your next question? I mean clearly you have something to say and cant be happy for kids getting an opportunity at a higher level.

  9. Looks like we'll get to see what happens when con men con each other since these statements were made today. Of course, Assange and his lawyers could well be lying today, but then that would make the claim about 100% accuracy questionable ... of course, if the statements today aren't lies, then that makes the previous ones lies. Either way, something's got to give.

  10. Probably not. He's 67. No idea how long he'd stay. And apparently he's taking a job inside the front office with Cleveland.

  11. Not confused at all foxbat. You made a statement I believe was false or at the very least pointed to you misinterpreting DT's statements, hence my simple request for links or citations so we could all be on the same page as to what was said. Sorry if you believe these are "high school debate shtick tactics" but I'm just a marching moron compared to your great intelligence and experience concerning "real" debate tactics. Yep. Sorry if it tarnished your image here on the GID. Honestly co-op football programs, like currently deployed in Illinois, would IMHO be a better option than 8 man tackle football.

  12. How much will 8-man football deplete 1A and then the ripple effect that follows?

  13. Contraction... I am not for it. I can understand not fielding a team if you simply never have the numbers to compete. I like how in Illinois you have small schools within the same district combine in co-ops to be able to field a team, and give the kids who love to play the game... play. win or lose, they are playing a sport they love without have to change schools to do so. If we are talking teams that just lose and lose, and therefore should just drop football or contract into another bigger school... I know there have been runs for schools where they were perennial losers, and yet eventually have turned the tide. And I know there are team around today that are on tough times that were once powerhouses. My old man used to tell me Perry Central took a long time to get where they were a 1A power. North Central (Farmersburg) won 4 games in 5 years (3 of those against Union-Dugger) from '94-'98 but eventually started turning the tide with 8 and 9 win seasons, and last year reaching regionals for the 1st time. Obviously Eastern Greene won 11 games in their first 8 years before at least reaching .500 status and eventually a state runner up.

  14. Oh you put forth a hypothesis. It just didn't pass any tests. And now that it hasn't, you can't run away from it fast enough.

  15. I think you’re still not getting my point and I apologize for not being able to state it more clearly. The lesson we can learn from MLB on this topic is that an effective way to increase the competitiveness of regular season games is to tailor the post-season process to the goal of making more regular season games meaningful with respect to playoff qualifying. That’s the lesson we can learn, and that’s the only point I was trying to make.

  20. You call those guys mean but you are wanting schools to cancel cuz their teams suck. Basically you are saying they suck. Elkhart Memorial And Hammond schools would have had teams had their schools not closed. Thats not contraction you bafoon.

  24. Instead of questioning where kids come from in successful programs, maybe realize that Western Boone has a great strength and conditioning program. If you watch their athletes in action in any sport, you can tell they have spent plenty of time working in the weight room.

  28. Saturday afternoon was a really good game for the Lady Miners. Loogootee played well. Shafford and Rose struggles offensively, but both made big plays late to seal the win. It was good to see a former WRV player/coach having success with the Lady Lions. Brian Smith coached and taught at WRV... He was head boys coach at Shoals... Now he had the #1 ranked 1A girls team. Linton had some solid teams in the 80's under Les Newman and a couple solid years under Bill Carpenter in the early to mid 90's... but those teams were always second, third, or fourth to really good teams. L&M, Bloomfield, and Shakamak beat out the Newman teams... WRV, Bloomfield, and Eastern dominated the Carpenter teams. Before that... the boys teams have to go back to the early to mid 1970's. The future is bright for the Miners for the next 4 years. After that it either needs work or too early to tell. The freshman class is strong. If all 7 stick around, they will be the backbone of the team in 2 years. Little Joey Hart will likely be a 1,000 point scorer. Cook and Webb both can score. If the trio don't make it to 1,000 it will have more to do with competition among their own team than the ability to get there. The other 4 freshman are 6'3", 6'3", 6'1", and 6'2". One of the 6'3" kids will likely keep growing. The other 3 are likely about done growing. Each are developing players that are coming along well. Each are probably better at another sport(almost varsity level guys), but I think they will keep playing. The class already lost 3 boys going into HS. One moved for family reasons... the other 2 noticed a full roster with a lack of opportunities to play varsity early. The key is to keep those 4 in the fold. When they become juniors, Coach Hart will likely need all of them. The sophomore class has been a little disappointing. There are only 4 or 5 left playing... 1 plays varsity and JV... the others look to be long shots at this point. One 8th grader will likely have an opportunity to play varsity next year, but the rest of the class is a work in progress. Not a lot of size among the next best guys in 8th grade. Luckily, outside of the one player... I doubt they will be called upon until they are juniors. Which goes back to the freshman, in 2 years it is probably one sophomore, the 7 freshman, and the 8th grader making up Coach Hart's varsity guys with a couple of the sophomores (who will be seniors) on the team. Of course, things change. A move in... a little growth spurt... hard work in the offseason could change things. After the freshman, it is too early to tell. The freshman weren't good early on... the sophomores were really good... fast forward to now... the freshman looks like the better class. Our 7th grade is small, but there could be a player or two. The 6th grade is pretty good, but I wonder how many of them will keep playing. The 5th grade needs a lot of work... lots of future football players. The 4th grade is pretty good and has good numbers. It is hard to put much faith one way or the other in anything below 8th grade. Even those kids may grow in the net couple years. I'm pretty sure the class sizes are a lot smaller after the 8th graders... that probably plays a role.

  29. One is curious: Are all these OMG! Athletes currently attending Western Boone Senior High School native born sons of Sugar Creek, Washington, Clinton, Jefferson, Jackson or Harrison townships in Boone County? Or has Dover been blessed with a few courtesy of open enrollment legislation? After all Webo hasn't been shy over the past several years in advertising itself as the bees-knees in government school education: https://www.weboschools.org
