  1. There was talk of building a new football/soccer complex out by one of the elementary schools. Allegedly already had the land purchased (if my memory serves me right) and was ready to move forward but the town voted it down. There's an increasing amount of families living in Washington that send their kids over to Barr-Reeve, so I can only speculate that didn't help the cause. As an alum, I'd rather see them invest in Hatchet Hallow and give it a face lift. @DumfriesYMCAis right, it's a very cool field and I have fond memories of playing there. I think it was a WPA project from the 1930s. I know the away seating has been replaced with nice new bleachers recently. Last year they took a step in the right direction by covering parts of that concrete track with some old hand-me-down turf from somewhere else. Looked significantly better than having that ugly thing visible; also probably made it a bit easier to land on. I can recall many bloodied arms and ripped pants from skidding on that rack. A pipe dream for me would be to see Hatchet Hallow rip up that track and get turf all the way up to the stands. I love the way it looks at the Reitz Bowl and I think it'd look just as nice there.Would be a huge boost for the entire program, which also just took control of the youth league from the local YMCA.

  2. Hey DT, Thanks for all the quality interviews and offseason content. I've learned a lot reading your writeups. Just want to let you know that they are appreciated.

  3. Doesn't happen often but it does happen, when Reitz is good and especially if Reitz and Mater Dei are good the crowd can exceed 10,000. I think it has held 12k or 13k on occasion.

  4. I’ve been to several games there and it’s hands down the best HS FB venue in the state. Looking forward to working my first game there this year.

  5. Also in 2015, when both Reitz and MD were undefeated and ranked #1 in their respective classes, it was completely packed as well. The environment and buzz from that type of crowd at the high school level is unmatched.

  6. Conference Indiana did back when it was a 10 team league from 1998-2005. They always played a seven game conference schedule. The North Central Conference always plays a seven game schedule despite having ten teams.

  14. Do I check major media outlets? Yep. You’re trying too hard geezer. Go mow the lawn again.

  15. Sadly, it’s plastered all over every major media news outlet. Shouldn’t be newsworthy for an Olympian to publicly show pride in competing for her country, but here we are. (But you already knew that.)

  16. Can't believe all the olympic aficionado's haven't posted about wrestler, Tamyra Mensah-Stock. Is it because of her post gold medal interview where she proclaims her love and adoration for the country she is representing. The GREATEST country on Earth....THE USA! Great job young lady!

  19. Was happy for this young lady. Remembered her at age 17 in the Rio Olympics 5 years ago. Great race breaking a world record last night with a total of 3 women very close as you indicated. They mentioned her father just had a heart transplant.

  20. FCS is D1....2 classifications. SDSU's conference, the Missouri Valley (also home to Indiana State & power North Dakota State) has held their own over the years against FBS schools. This is a pretty good source for listing FCS wins over FBS schools. https://www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/fcs-wins-vs-fbs-teams-all-time-victories-upsets

  21. Completely agree. I’ve always said conferences should have their teams play each other an equal number of times. If your conference is too big to allow that then maybe you shouldn’t have that many teams to begin with. However, it always comes down to money. The more you can get the less people care about things like balanced conference schedules.

  22. Which creates chaos when it comes to unbalanced schedules, meaning non-deserving teams are sometimes in contention for conference titles. The SEC is about to find out and the Big Ten already has.

  29. It began as a retaining wall dug into the hill upon which Reitz High School sits. Shortly after it was created, somebody suggested it would be a good venue for a football stadium. The main grandstand is concrete that goes nearly halfway around the field. There is also a smaller visitor bleacher opposite. It seats about 10,000. Both Reitz and Mater Dei play their home games there. UE once played their home games there as well. It also played home to the “Refrigerator Bowl” postseason college football game. The river you see is the nearby Ohio. There are some great elevated views of the river from atop the Bowl.

  39. They did not replace the lights. But they need to badly. Foot Candle levels are way below industry standards at almost every point of the playing field. Even Enlow is better lit.
