  1. On my first coach’s visit to Butler in late May back in the day I pulled my ‘74 Firebird Esprit (same as Jim “Rockfish” Rockford’s but with a lot more unpainted “Bondo” patches) into the shared Hinkle/Starlight Musicals parking lot. Fresh from the unnamed hills and hollers of southeast Indiana and not knowing my way around Indianapolis (or Butler), I walked into the open entrance to Starlight Musicals just before Noon…..Coach Lyons was waiting for me in his office on the main floor at Hinkle. As I walked in, I heard this smooth baritone voice coming from the stage. There was a man singing and a woman playing a piano accompaniment. It was only the 3 of us in the entire facility but I couldn’t quite make out just who the two were on stage. Being curious, and fairly self-unaware at the time, I walked down to the foot of the stage like I owned the place to see some middle-aged lady playing the piano for Gomer Pyle…who was, somehow, out of uniform. I assumed he was on leave since there was no evidence of Sgt. Carter to be seen. Completely true story.

  2. I tried to laugh at this, but everyone I know used up all our reactions last night in this thread

  4. That’s what we get for soccer player homecoming winners. Back in my day we gave it to a football player and cheerleader like God intended.

  5. Forgott at add Big Moe took Elder to the woodshed last night to run the table in the GCL South. What Indiana HS Football did to Moeller this year has to be more impressive then the time Cathedral essentially won the GCL South. Congrats to Ben Davis, East Central and Center Grove.

  6. Valpo is too high. Travis Davis is likely out for the year with an ACL injury. Major loss for the Viking offense. We're talkinga about a 6' 230 RB who had over 200 yards rushing in the State Championship last year. Zionsville, FC and Noblesville should all be aobve the Bloomington schools. HCC is cannibalizing itself. I seriously doubt the 3 of them would struggle competing for the top spot in Conference Indiana. Crown Point is probably more in the 13-20 range. I still like Center Grove in the #1 spot, but it's hard to ignore what Brownsburg is doing.

  9. How bout this gem Team A Kicks ball off in what is known as the classic KICKOFF, ball heads to the sidelines, heading to the pylon, TEAM B player runs towards the ball watching, TEAM B player ends up out of bounds, the ball is bouncing and the player reaches back in the field of play and grabs the ball while being completely out of bounds, at the 3 yards line. Where is the ball spotted ? (P.S. I knew this, but been a bit since I've seen it, and yes the crew got it right). @Yuccaguyand @Bobref are barred

  10. This is as clear cut of an answer as it gets. Sorry Yucca… Bob wins this match. The ball was recovered opposite of Team B sideline. Those players had no real effect on the result of the play.

  11. There’s a problem with not enough detail in the question. My answer assumes that when A recovers the blocked kick, it had not crossed the neutral zone. There are 2 possibilities here. This is unsportsmanlike conduct on Team B. Because that live ball foul is enforced like a dead ball foul, the period is not extended. Game over. If, in the judgment of the covering official, the B people coming off the sideline interfered with any possible chance Team A had to recover and advance the ball, however small, it’s a live ball foul for illegal participation by B. It’s going to be A’s ball for an untimed down after enforcement of the 15 yd. penalty. This is essentially a copy of the play that came at the end of a very big game in Indianapolis 4 yrs. ago. They went with option 2 in that game. That choice is fully supportable because the blocked kick went directly toward the B sideline in the area where the players were coming onto the field from the bench.

  13. Gee a guy posts one image of a baseball player on a football page and don’t check it for a day. Come back and see that chaos has ensued. I guess it’s a good think I didn’t post a soccer player of this whole board may have fallen.

  14. Gandolph “Gandy” Fish (Isaac Hayes) who served time with Rockford always referred to him as “Rockfish”. Everyone else in the show called him “Jim”…..excepting Angel Martin (the brilliant and, sadly, recently deceased Stuart Margolin) who always called him “Jimmy”. The Rockford Files is my favorite TV show of all time.

  15. Mercy rule: Thanks for the info. OT: I Googled to see what their current rules are. Ohio evidently not adhering to NFHS standard, per items 2 and 8 in this document: https://ohsaaweb.blob.core.windows.net/files/Sports/Football/2022/FBOvertimeRules2022.pdf

  16. After touting Warren Central as a darkhorse team, I'm going to shut up the rest of the year about rankings or predictions. Looks good to me.

  18. Yes, I know a few guys who maintain duel licenses. Could be a bit confusing mechanics wise.

  19. This Adams Central team is good enough to win 90% of past 1A titles, but will be the underdog when they square off with Indy Lutheran. It will be a true David vs Goliath. Rural Adams County takes on the Inner Indy All Stars.

  20. This is the problem with “do overs.” A thorny question, and one for which ther3 is no clear cut answer. My sense is that safety fouls, e.g., blindside block, facemask, etc., will be enforced. You can’t just pretend they didn’t happen. Same with unsportsmanlike fouls.

  22. Riley vs. NP: First let me say; Riley has a real good ball club, I think they are going to roll past Bremen and Jimtown - They are legit. And honestly I wouldn't want to face them in the sectionals either. The kind of team you would want/expect out of a south bend school. Their run defense is legit, they were in the backfield and attacking the point of line of scrimmage all night long. Cougars rushed for only 81 yards on 31 carries - NP did have a 25 yard run on the their first play of scrimmage so you take away that and Riley essentially shut down the cougars run game. But on the flip side Riley sold out on the run which led to some wide open receivers. Cougars threw for a school record of 306 yards on 9/17 passes, and honestly there were some dropped balls where it could easily been more. NP left some points on the boards; badly missed chip shot field goal, and fumbled snap exchange on first and goal from the 2 on the second drive of the game, Riley just didn't have the offense to keep up. Riley was penalized for holding calls, especially early on, I think that was just a by-product of the competition they have played prior to the game. Overall I came away impressed with Riley, especially their front 7 attacking all game long.

  25. That Memorial/Reitz score last night went a long ways towards legitimizing Reitz for me last night. Given the closed nature of the SIAC, I’m always a little circumspect judging pre-playoffs but invariably those teams are good year in and year out. Reitz’ thoroughgoing win over Memorial makes it appear something special is cooking there this year. Maybe the only potential threat to East Central’s steamroller?

  26. Bob is MY Mentor. I've learned more from him, and employed things in my FB career that you can never comprehend. I just try to be a conduit until he arrives and gives a better view of situations .... He can ALWAYS give me guidance! I'm not an attorney... Hell I can barely balance my finances... 😁

  27. Thank you. At this point. Though I believe my understanding of THIS sport is great. I am can learn much more from those whom I have "been there-done that". If you could reach out to the administration and have them send the IFOA a video of the play, it would be wonderful. On behalf of ALL Officials... We are NOT PERFECT. These scenarios help us 'learn' and become better on Friday nights (and beyond) .....

  31. That fake punt on 4th & 2 at their own 11 yard line took some stones. 4 plays later they’re in the end zone up 14-7 and never looked back.

  34. 🤣😂😅 Seriously, Coach Curtis has clearly mellowed. Can’t tell anything from the video. This happened at 8:25 of the 4th period. If either of the coaching staffs would share the Hudl video with the IFOA like they are supposed to, I could look at it and see if there’s anything there. Regardless, there should have been a measurement, if only for “public relations” purposes.

  35. I know I sometimes get caught up looking at box scores as it’s impossible to see every team in person but damn. Some folks questioned Lutheran’s omission from Temp’s Top 25 and I scoffed at the time. Not anymore. They’ve dominated everyone in their path including what I consider damn fine teams in Triton Central, Scecina and Monrovia by a combined score of 134-41! While I don’t have em top 25 (yet) they are getting damn close. As one who often focuses a lot of his attention on 5A/6A teams which I feel I know best, thought this squad deserved a special shout out. Good luck 1A…
