DT would make a great coach! He runs a screen and gets the defense to relax a bit. He comes back with the end around. Then wait......it looks like a jet sweep....but at the last minute, the ole CONTRACTION trap play right up the gut. Gotcha! Except in his scenario as soon as it didn't work 1 or 2 times in a row, he would "contract" that play out of the playbook. No DT, Dugger shouldn't have. It is a school by school decision and there are thousands of young men raised in Indiana who are grateful that they had the opportunity to play this game regardless of wins or losses or final scores. Why? Because they had the opportunity to learn life skills that are still helping them today, teamwork, overcoming obstacles, friendship, camaraderie, etc. I know because my son is one of those kids. He is now a Seaman 2nd class on a submarine somewhere in the Pacific defending this great country. The last time he spoke to me, he related a story of being in a tough situation on the boat and hearing his coaches voice about "never quitting on a play". A 1A coach who said "if a kid is willing to show up and work hard we'll find a place for him to play". Football literally changed my son's life and his future. He never started, usually never got in except for mop up duty, was injured and never played a down his senior year, still showed up for every game, and belonged to something bigger than himself. I have been a read only guest for the past two years on this site. So I know you will offer your usual list of "reasons" why contraction is the end all, be all. But now I am a registered user and as soon as they tell me how to be a sponsor I will respond with a check. I appreciate you passing the baton, we'll take it from here. Nothing personal, just want to see football alive and well in Indiana, not contracting. Coaches coach, players play, fans cheer!5 points

I would argue that Herb King helped bring stability to the program - Speaking as a football alumni from South who played for 3 different coaches in 4 years, There were some very down times of the program - Coach King established a direction for South Decatur and built a tradition and expectation of winning while he was there. Coach Martin was one of the assistants under Coach King as well - Both were instrumental in my development as a player and as a person. South has the opportunity to make a statement hire and get things moving in the right direction. They need someone young, energetic, and willing to accept the grind of being a 1A football coach and the responsibilities that come with it. The community also needs to be able to accept culture change. I truly wish them the best and want to see them succeed. I loved being and SD Cougar... and I now love being a GC Cougar.4 points

I have been avoiding the itch to post, but it got me. Some coaches think it is taboo to post, but we are all ready for some football and there is no better distraction from the monotony of everyday than some football talk. WW should be improved. All impact players are back. Work in the weightroom (after school and in AdvPE) and participation in other sports is high (addition of wrestling has created another opportunity for physical competition). Defense should be the biggest leap forward, we were very young last year but talented. The youth showed most on defense where raw talent couldn't cover up inexperience and some lack in strength. Led by two strong classes (next year's Seniors and Juniors). Senior Defensive End, Caleb Murphy (FBS Scholarship Offers) is difficult to run at, on the opposite side Junior Jacob Strange is equally hard to handle. If we can funnel everything in Senior returning starting LB's Mason Armstrong and Hunter Pate should clean up on tackles. DB's will be playmakers. As the guy calling the offense, I can give you a peak into our philosophy. Take what you do best and make it your base play calling (80% of offense). Last year we were so young, but the line was good and RB was great so we fed it even more than normal. Next year we will be more multi-dimensional and better at the "extras". That being said, the 80% holds true. No need to be flashy for flashy sake. Our line, TE and RB are the backbone, The others players will be playmakers and we will make more plays than last year. Number 6 will get the ball and we will run IZ and OZ. Other schools are working very hard. That is a guarantee in these conferences, teams are always improving and the coaching is strong.3 points

My wife likes to order shoes/clothes, etc. from Macy's online. She'll order stuff, and return what doesn't fit or she doesn't like. So, since I'm in the city a lot more than her, it falls upon me to return what she doesn't want. A couple of weeks ago, I return a couple of pairs of heels. The woman at the counter opens them up, has a bit of a smirk on her face and asks "they didn't fit?" To which I replied, keeping a straight face and without batting an eye, "I was looking for something a little sexier for dancing". Eff it man, may as well have a little fun with it.3 points

I actually have a couple kids on Memorial I supported this post season. I have close ties to Castle and have cheered hard for a couple kids there in recent seasons. One of my closest friends was on the Central staff this season and I am friends with Andy and his Dad. I have also worked several camps with Coach Schnur and consider him a friend...he does a great job. That said some of the SIAC fans on here who constantly go after the top PAC teams because they “don’t play play anybody” . These guys certainly make clear their knowledge of the sport very effectively. Not to mention thier innate ability to breathe through their mouth. The sun certainly doesn’t rise and set in the SOS of the SIAC over the past decade...not even close. That’s really my only issue. I’m guessing my comment in the other thread about teams one likes to root against got someone’s panties in a wad.2 points

That is very odd, although not surprising. I don't think you're ever "too good" not to treat someone with respect. It's not a sign of weakness to be kind.....also aren't we as coaches supposed to live out the values we teach our kids? Respect the opponent, the game, and yourself.2 points

Hence my sarcastic comment about him speaking for all conservatives. Because every time some id1ot makes a stupid comment like this, we all get stuck with it. Conversely Crazy Uncle Joe says "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man." and everyone laughs it off, ohhhh, that's just Crazy Uncle Joe.2 points

I'm not sure but I don't believe the baseball coaching change is connected to the football coach and AD firing. So far the Eastern board is much better than the Federal Govt in preventing leaks to the media about the reason for their actions.1 point

Love it. My senior year in high school, some buddies and I screen printed some t-shirts during study hall that said "I DON'T LIKE PLYMOUTH" on the front and a huge P with the no sign (circle with slash) running through it. We wore them to the boys basketball game at Plymouth that night... only to watch our Tigers get trounced by 28 points. Granted, the Pilgrims won state that year.1 point

Heritage Hills at Princeton After 1 quarter score was Heritage Hills 12 Princeton 9, At halftime it was Heritage Hills 26 Princeton 17, After 3 quarters Heritage Hills 40 Princeton 33 and final Heritage Hills 58 Princeton 45. Princeton made a run in the 3rd quarter and had the lead down to 1 point, Cole Sigler hit a 3 pointer with around 5 seconds left then HH stole the inbounds pass and Blake Sisley hit a leaning 3 pointer to push the lead to 7 after 3. Last season Heritage Hills only lost 1 home game and it was on Senior night at the hands of Princeton so it was nice returning the favor this season, Princeton was unbeaten at home but it wasn't the Tigers Senior Night they have one home game left Friday against Day School. Heritage Hills increased their winning streak to 18 games which is a new program record for Most Consecutive Wins . Also Heritage Hills tied the school record for most wins with their 21st win. The 88-89 and 96-97 teams also won 21 games but that was when we had a 20 game schedule both those teams went 18-2 in the regular season and won their 21st in the championship game of sectional. Heritage Hills scoring Becher 18 Scherry 14 Sigler 12 Sisley 10 Begle 4 Princeton scoring Z Dove 14 Wilkerson 11 Ballard 10 M Dove 8 Muckerheide 2 Heritage Hills varsity improves to 21-1 Heritage Hills wins JV 54-45 and improve to 17-3.1 point

I know I’m going to ragret (sic) this! TAKING A TRAIN INSTEAD OF AIR TRAVEL SPUN AS A NEGATIVE. PRETZEL LOGIC. How did I spin anything, he took the train, I offered some possible reasons why. There’s nothing between the lines to read. THIS AVERAGE JOE HAS HIS GRANDPA'S GOLD CUFFLINKS. SHOOTING A SHOTGUN IN THE AIR SEEMS EXACTLY WHAT AN AVERAGE JOE WOULD DO. You might have missed the part where I said “wears”, which means you actually have them physically on their person, or in this case their clothes. Congrats on your inheritance, do you “wear” them? I think they look cool as hell, but since I don’t have any shirts with French cuffs, or cuff links, I’m pretty much out. I’ve never fired a firearm into the air, as Foxy pointed out those projectiles will eventually come down. I’ve never seen it done either. IF YOU'VE GOT THE MONIKER "CRAZY UNCLE JOE", YOU'VE, BY DEFINITION, NOT GOTTEN A PASS. OR MAYBE HE IS JUST STUPID I’m sorry, I got nothing. NO ONE SAID HE WAS BROKE, JUST HASN'T FED AT THE TROUGH. OR MAYBE HE IS JUST STUPID. POOR SPIN ATTEMPT. Busted, I took some creative license, he’s not broke. Hasn’t fed at the public trough? HE WAS A US SENATOR FOR 36 YEARS! FOLLOWED BY EIGHT YEARS AS VP! He has a pretty sweet pension package, I’d say he’s got his face buried in the trough.1 point

Me either, ever since they allowed face mask and the forward pass, the game has just went downhill... I honestly don't know why anyone still plays or watches it , I am sure it is just a few seasons away from totally being a forgotten sport.1 point

IMO if the PAC/BIG 8 don't change the schedule and have the non conference games at the beginning of the year they will be making a huge mistake.1 point

Cole Alexander from Lapel- Strong arm and mobile. 40+ combined TDs as a junior. Peyton Starks from Shenandoah- Only had 1800 yards passing 34 combined TDs because he plays in a predominately run oriented offense but he has a very strong arm.1 point

Most coaches don't like talking about their teams but I'll do it for all the fans we have on here. Last season we finished with 23 kids. 12 of those were seniors so we initially had 11 coming back. Of those 11, one moved away before we had our banquet so I was looking at 10 kids that had finished last season. I've been recruiting pretty hard and as of now, I've had 50 kids tell me they plan to play next year. Which, in reality I'll probably get 35 of those to actually play when the season starts. And of those 35, 25 will have never played or not since youth but I'll take it. It's a much better situation than last season to start with. So when someone asks me what my goal is, my goal is to play an entire JV season. No one seems to know for sure when the last time that happened here and if we could win a handful of games on Friday night to go along with that I'd be tickled. We have to find a QB, a FB, and a RB we can count on. Keith Brooks might end up being QB. He will be a sophomore. Right now he's 6-5 and 175. Really good athlete, just needs to develop some quickness. Nolan Barker played RB a lot last year but will needs to be more consistent. He's got good size at 6-2, 195 and he's decently strong but not going to run away from anyone right now. Preston Coleman is our top returning rusher and receiver. Last year he split time between football and tennis so I never felt he got consistent practice and would be much better if he didn't play tennis. But kids like tennis I suppose. Preston has decent size at 6-0, 155 and is a good athlete. We bring back 2 OL with experience. Garrett Stout 5-9, 190 started at center all year for us and T.J. Donnelly started every game at tackle minus the ones he was out with an injury. TJ is 6-2, 215 down about 25 pounds from last year. Outside of those 2, we are going to have to find some linemen. Defensively, we graduated all of our defensive backs and linebackers. Keith Brooks started at the end of the year at OLB and probably will again this season. We bring back several defensive linemen. Zach Carlisle started at NT until he tore his ACL and MCL and meniscus week 7. He should be ready to go. He's got some size at 6-4, 410. Nolan Barker, TJ Donnelly, and Garrett Stout all started at times last year. Stout will probably move back to LB and Barker may too depending on who we will have. Other than them, we will have to find some guys that want to play and are willing to learn. It's hard to project other spots because you never truly know what a kid will look like until they get out there.1 point
