  4. Not sure where Bob-Ref gets his info. Although some players maybe recruited as athletes, Jack was recruited to ND specifically to play LB, and they made that clear from day 1. After rehabbing from February labrum surgery, Jack started the first 4 games on multiple special teams, then met with ND coaches for a planned after-game-four evaluation and discussion regarding his freshman eligibility. Jack expresses interest in redshirting, and ND coaches agreed that they would attempt to honor that unless injuries to others forced them to use Jack in a 5th game. If a 5th game occurred, then he would play out the remainder of the season thereafter. Of ND’s 21 freshmen scholarship players, only 3 played in more than 4 games exhausting a year of eligibility. The other 18 played in 4 games or less and technically redshirted and will return as freshmen next year. The NCAA rule change allowing 4 games and still redshirting has changed things considerably, for Brian Kelly and everyone. With ND having 4 freshmen LBs, they could easily rotate each thru 4 games to fill 1 special teams spot and still redshirt all of them. A win/win for all.

  5. Kevin Wright Hired Dave Ballou (from Avon Standout and IU player) as a Strenght & Conditioning Coach away from Avon when Wright got the HC job at IMG. Ballou left 2 or 3 years ago and went to Notre Dame for a year and is now at IU. I am guessing Kevin Wright has an offer on the table from a Division I program... Whether thats a Coordinator/Position Coach or a HC job at a lower level Division I program.

  8. I agree with you up to 2018 for sure as Penn was the dominant program in the north no questions. Bad losses last year to Mishawaka(to a great Mishawaka team) and to Valpo in the playoffs (21-0 at home) revealed the problems that really were worse this year (bad losses to 5a Valpo, a 4a NP, and rival Warsaw in the playoffs. Heck, they struggled to beat a one win Portage team in the playoffs. Prob will not be a consistently dominant team in the north going forward, like Penn was in the past. The past two years it has been Valpo (6a semistate 2018, 5a runnerup 2019) The original post by DT does raise a very good point about Elkhart and their future. My bet is Penn will return to be a very strong team, though maybe not as dominant as they were in the past. They are just too big with too much tradition to not be good . In a way, I think the rise of a strong Elkhart program and a resurgent Warsaw under BC is the best thing to happen for Penn. Maybe the regional competition will make all the teams better

  9. While there are a lot of questions that need to be answered, talking to the coach is a must. Let him know about the incident. Go up the ladder (start with coach, then AD, then Principal) if there is not a response to what all is going on or why this is happening. One consideration is that the coach may not be aware this is going on.

  10. Sandy Hook was 7 years ago so I'm sure alot of the kids on this title team were at Sandy Hook when the shooting occurred

  11. I seen this. Such a good story. the whole idea of taking a day of such tragedy and bringing an awesome memory to it is heart warming. if I’m not mistaken, the children who were at sandy hook on that terrible day are now somewhere between 7th and 11th grade

  13. 5 titles since 99. I did a major report on columbine. Watched a lot of vidoes. The 99 team was huge healing thing for the school. One of the kids that died was on the football team.

  14. I know for sure Illinois' composite is skewed because they added a bunch of grad transfers who will no longer be on next years team. Northwestern's lone 5* was QB Hunter Johnson who was benched halfway through the year and looks to be in completely over his head. Illinois and Northwestern lose a ton to graduation while Purdue brings back just about all of it's talent who were either true freshman or sophomores. On paper Purdue will have a more talented roster than either Ill or NW if we're strictly looking at HS recruiting rankings, that's a given. But it's still young talent. Not going to win many places when your most talented players are freshman and sophomores.

  15. That was for this year. Purdue's recruiting classes from 15, 16. and 17 were atrocious. Purdue had better and more highly ranked recruiting classes in 2018, 2019, and this incoming 2020 class than both Illinois and Northwestern.

  16. ND goes not "traditionally" redshirt players in the fact that if a ND freshman gets redshirted, they are not designated as a Redshirt Freshman the next year. ND considers that player a Sophomore and they have the opportunity to come back for a 5th year (Redshirt senior) after their 4th (Redshirt junior) season. So like Jack's dad said, Notre Dame does redshirt players, but Notre Dame doesn't add redshirt to their class if they are redshirted.

  18. I'm guessing Plummer is the more "talented" of the two based on his recruiting ranking but O'Connell has been there the longest, and while he's technically a walk-on he looked anything but in the few times I saw him. Throws a very good ball. Decision making wasn't great but again I'm guessing that has a lot to do with starting the year as a 4th string QB. Give him reps at the 1 for a full spring and he could end up being pretty good. Plummer likely won't be healthy for spring ball.

  19. I think Noblesville has the potential to be a better job than Fishers because of the reasons you stated. Plus community support is pretty solid even for a program that has been downtrodden for so long. Facilities are on Noblesville's side too with a beautiful weight room and plenty of practice space. Their stadium lacks in comparison though to most, if not all, 5A/6A programs. 3000+ students, a good feeder program, great community involvement, and high socioeconomic value should have Noblesville's program better than what they have been lately. However, with Fishers and HSE, you literally have to convince your middle school players to go to your high school.

  22. IU or Purdue need to get this guy on staff somehow. Has not only deep recruiting ties to the state of Indiana, but ties to one of the best high school football programs in the country.

  24. Jury still out. Only thing conclusive is that Purdue is stuck with Brohm for better or worse. Purdue massively overachieved in years 1 and 2 with Brohm and had a ton of recruiting momentum. Yeah I think they ponied up more than they should have for Brohm, but at the same time, if you let Brohm walk after year 2, you probably lose a top 25 recruiting class and are back to square one. If anything Brohm has elevated Purdue's floor from Hazel which I'm sure every Purdue fan can live with at the current moment. He may never deliver results that justify his top 10 salary, but if Purdue can win 7-8 games consistently the next few years (I have my doubts) the extension was warranted based off the mess he inherited.

  25. 1. The South Bend City Government has nothing to do with the School System. 2. South Bend has always bucked trends or reinvents the wheel. 3. There is a vote today to allow a charter school to share a building with a high school. Don't really see that as progressive. oporation.

  29. Now that I realize that DT fancies himself as the Howard Stern of the GID, and nothing is based on real world data and is for shock value, I kinda enjoy it. Roncalli Recruiter made me laugh out loud. Only thing that would have been funnier would be Roncalli Director of Public Relations and Marketing.

  31. I threw the paper away and cant remember exact quote but Coach talked about the schedule in the JD. First he said no area options with the SIAC schools having no non-conference opponents he also said he would prefer to play a potential playoff opponent then cross the river and play Kentucky teams... That tells me they are still looking at options to replace either Tell City or North Posey in the future but probably couldn't find the right fit before the deadline to get the PAC schedules reworked. Just a guess but thinking Gibson was likely looking at potential teams to pick up before any new conference was finalized. I could see changes in 2021 or 2022 but not sure I agree with scheduling 3A opponents, Never been a big fan of playing teams twice but seems most coaches like it. Could a HH - Brownstown regular season game be in the future ??

  38. "I am the most read content provider in the history of The Gridiron Digest. The record speaks for itself. " Where can one find said "record"? Because you're 6th in terms of number of comments. That's the only record that anyone can cite. When we talk about most read content on the GID, we're only talking about the top 5. If we're referring to #6 or below, we'll be clear.

  39. Why are you so strident in your nonstop belittling of the accomplishments of a high school student, which has been full of inaccuracies and speculation based on a tiny sample size and a "I have to be right so I'm going to drill my point until you all agree with me" desire to argue. Two things: D1 is more than P5. It's actually even more than FBS. Also, learn how to spell the kid's name if you're going to spend nine pages trying to tear him down and question his decision-making. "Wear and tear." Spegal was getting, maybe, 20 carries a game most nights. The people who ACTUALLY WATCHED HIS GAMES (which you clearly have not) can tell you this. Age? Why would a teenaged high school football player whose age is not abnormal for a high school senior scare off recruiters? If you're the "content creator" you seem to think you are, you'd at least do a little bit of research and get your facts straight rather than believing wild rumors. If anything, the lack of P5 offers likely has to do with measurables - he's 5'11 and doesn't have 4.5 speed and thus got pigeonholed as fullback, but he's a football player. He has tremendous sense, he's incredibly strong, has tremendous vision, is hard to tackle and he'll be a solid player for IU. I would be shocked if he doesn't earn a scholarship during his time at IU. I'm confident most readers understand where you're coming from: that your opinions are based in nothing close to facts, and that anything you write here should be taken about as seriously as people who call into sports talk radio. But "content" or something. It's content in the way Cheez-Wiz is food. Sure, it's content, but it's not quality and you feel worse for having consumed it.

  40. Nope, that would be @DT I don't listen to Dakich. Who is he talking about? I've watched him play, last time I paid any attention to him. Insults? If questioning an unprovable claim is an insult, you may need anti-snowflake training. I think I see the sheep. He's in someone's flock alright. Sorry, but this is also a lie.

  44. https://www.npr.org/2019/12/16/787909495/fewer-students-are-going-to-college-heres-why-that-matters Boo-hoo. Colleges have been sucking up that sweet, sweet free government money, in the form of student loans, for decades now in order to hire more administrative workers than teaching staff and to turn campuses into veritable Taj Maha'ls with ambitious building projects that cost hundreds of millions. And now it's time to pay the piper.
