Now that it has been confirmed it can be posted.. Article has been posted on the Columbus newspaper site.. Gaddis has had an amazing football coaching career which includes 2 state titles at CE. I wish nothing but the best for Coach Gaddis.

It was 2 years ago... Webo didn't select when to win the 2 championships (they try to win every game) and Webo didn't set the guidelines of the succes factor. You won a Regional and a State title and got bumped. The exact same thing is happening to us now. IF we lose this weekend or next weekend, I am not (and I seriously doubt any other Webo Fan) going to troll every post about Mater Dei/Pioneer/Ft. Wayne Bishop Luers. It is what it is, and we will move on and regroup for 3A next year. You should focus your attention on Danville. Lots of similarities between 2018 Webo and 2020 Danville. Coach Gaddis obviously has had an amazing career and the victories speak for themself. I will remember Coach Gaddis as one of the greatest ambassadors for the sport of football. He is a leader amongst coaches. What he has done for the IFCA and the coaching fraternity will have an impact that lasts forever. For our staff at West Washington, he graciously hosted us for an afternoon to talk about all things football. We shared film and he shared film with us. He helped us install some of the fundamental elements of the offense that we have run for the past 4 seasons. I will always be grateful for how much he mentored other coaches and for his leadership in the IFCA and Region 10.

Roncalli operates under the restrictions imposed by the Archdiocese as regards reaching out to CYO student athletes. Like the other 3 Archdiocesan schools they are not allowed to directly contact those students/families individually to come play at their school. A HS coach can talk to a CYO team as a whole (as I understand it) but there is no individual reach out to kids or families specific to coming to play a certain sport. They certainly can’t reach out to athletes (in any way) outside of CYO. Brebeuf has agreed to that same set of rules. Cathedral, who initially helped draft those rules (about 10 or so years ago, now), later declined to sign onto them and does reach out to individual families/kids. It’s a free country, Cathedral can do what they want....but it’s NOT a free country for the Archdiocese schools (and Brebeuf). Given that, Roncalli (and none of the Archdiocesan schools along with Brebeuf) can even vaguely hope to match Cathedral in their ability to recruit even their OWN feeder schools let alone kids outside of them throughout Central Indiana as they would need to do to compete with Cathedral. So what you propose is never going to happen....it can’t so long as they are part of the Archdiocese. Literally, an Archdiocese head coach cannot talk directly and individually to a family or kid about playing their particular sport on the day they are signing up for classes.

I think we can all agree that there are multiple variables which lead certain high schools to football success and enrollment is only one of those. So, let's represent Football Success in the form of an equation with the sum of multiple variables equaling Football Success. x + y + z = Football Success Now, I think we can all also agree that each variable is not equal. Some variables are more determinate than other variables. Therefore, each variable must have its own coefficient which represents the extent to which that variable affects Football Success. Ax + By + Cz = Football Success But, I think we can all further agree that there aren't three variables involved here; there are dozens of variables to take into consideration (e.g. head coach, youth league, depth of interest, tradition, community support, quality of players, etc., etc., etc.). Therefore, a more accurate representation of the Football Success equation would be as follows: Ax + By + Cz + Dn + Eo + Fp + Gq + Hr + Is + Jt + Ku + Lv + Mw = Football Success The solution proposed in this thread changes the Football Success equation to: Ax + By + Cz + Dn + Eo + Fp + (2G)q + Hr + Is + Jt + Ku + Lv + Mw = Football Success I am going to go out on a limb here and predict that this solution will not bring about the distributive justice desired by its proponents. You skipped over several question marks. In my Hypothetical if a public had the exact same set up and enrollment as a private...I said the public might win once every ten years due to the 15% of the public population the private doesn't have to deal with. In the real world case...Mater Dei performs almost identically to publics over twice it's size. And you don't need me to explain this stuff...I know you get it. My work here is done.

No one actively will “poach”, but kids are free to go there from Indy just as kids are free to go to Chatard from Ritter feeders. It’s just that you can’t actively pursue them. I recall the late Eric Anderson when he was AD at Guerin making that clear when speaking with him at a Guerin fundraiser some years ago. So regardless whether Guerin has signed on, that’s been their policy and I have no reason to think it’s changed.

CP has a much higher number of students from Frankfort than from the East side. I honestly couldn't tell you anyone at the HS from the district on the East side of the county but I am sure there are a few. We also don't run a bus into downtown Frankfort to pick up students who are out of our district. Our School board recently approved a cap that would eliminate out of district transfers in grades that have 100 students currently enrolled due to building and classroom limitations. Their are plenty of talks of housing addition in district that will limit most if not all transfers in the future unless a building project is done quickly. CP current enrolment is down about 20 off of the 380 that was stated. Will be interesting few years on the west side of Clinton county and the developments that take place at 28 and 65 intersection. There is some potential to explode with in district student numbers that could push CP out of the 1a conversation completely.

I'm not much for rankings but found this worthy of notice. Center Grove is ranked 13th in USA Today, and 19th in Max Preps. Cathedral is ranked #24 in USA Today, and #21 on Max Preps! Nice to see Central Indiana football on the map!

How rare is it that 2 interim coaches meet at any point during the season, let alone this late in the playoffs? Coach Lyons taking over at Covenant Christian after week 4 of the season. Coach Nance filling in filling in for a season until they find a permanent replacement at West Washington. Very unique story heading into Friday's game.

No ... it isn't and no ... it doesn't. SF applies to all schools regardless of public or private and addresses the ACTUAL outcome of the system/process. You can argue about the fairness to the next class, but it applies itself equally based upon a defined and measurable outcome. A multiplier is targeted, at least in your version, to a subset of schools, and is based on a perceived/expected outcome whether or not said outcome would have been achieved. In SF, Bishop Noll never sees a class above its enrollment. In your version of multiplier, it goes up two classes even if it only fields a team of 12 kids every season. Probably the most telling issue is that there hasn't yet been an indication of why 2.0 should be picked, as opposed to 1.5 or 1.25 or 1.75 or any other number. The fact that SF could have a team move up two classes and the fact that a 2.0 multiplier can do the same doesn't make them any more the same as cheating on an exam and studying on for exam to get an A make both activities the same.

Definitely agree that familiarity plays a factor in the 2nd meeting with GS being close. I agree, but his arm will have to be the difference. I don't think SR can push Danville around up front, which is something HH did last year.

Bob Gaddis has announced his retirement after 20 years at East and 42 years overall. He is the sixth winningest coach in Indiana history with a record of 330-143. As East heads into its 50th season of football, it will be looking for its third head coach.

I can't speak for Guerin, but I would suspect that, on principal, Guerin would not attempt to poach Indy-Diocese players. As for their own diocese, LCC and Guerin are the only Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana ... and that's a big diocese for two high schools. With that said, LCC's not really in a position to contend for kids that are really outside of the Lafayette area and basically the Tippecanoe County area despite the fact that the diocese spans from the Indiana/Illinois border all the way over to the Indiana/Ohio border, down to just north of Indy and just south of South Bend and southwest of Ft. Wayne. LCC has six parishes just in Lafayette/West Lafayette and Guerin has a few, including a couple good-sized ones, in close proximity too.

The Archdiocese schools are effectively an extension of the church so breaking away is neither desirable nor possible. I think it’s important that everyone understands that it’s great that some of the schools might be pretty good at football but the Arccdiocese could care less....that isn’t their mission...or the schools’ mission.

Merrillville will have to play a perfect game against Westfield. They do have a chance to win, but watching Westfield dismantle Homestead just shows that Indy is still a cut above FW 6A schools and possibly still Merrillville. Should hopefully be one of the better games Friday. Hobart's defense was legit last year when we watched them play EN. You are not going to lose too many games forcing 5 turnovers. They will match up well with Marion and should take that game if they can limit the big plays. Ben Davis is interesting. I remember reading awhile back someone predicted that the Giants would upset CG in the semi state. Will it happen? Probably not, but this year has been nothing less than crazy.

This didn't become part of the entwinement test established by the court. And, besides, it's entirely possible that all employer contributions to these pensions were made by the TSSAA -- it just so happened that they were invested into the state pension system. I don't really know. But it's neither here nor there. As I said, the court established an entwinement test -- and employees having state pensions wasn't part of it. It was primarily the composition of the entity and the enmeshment with the state public school infrastructure. As I just said, 18 of the 19 members of the Board and the Executive Committee of the IHSAA are employees of public school systems. So, after looking into the Brentwood holding and the IHSAA's structure, I'm very confident that the IHSAA would be treated as a state actor.

No offense my Patriot friend...but this QB throws WAY better than the one at HH last year. They both are great runners but one (SR) is about Power and the other (HH) was about quickness and elusiveness. Bring a good run defense that understands through familiarity what they are going to see. It's tough when you don't deal with it on a regular basis and even then it provides many challenges particular when there are some athletic kids in the mix.

I do know that the ruling was issued prior to those deliberations. And I do know that some people were advocating for a separate class for P/P schools (which you're doing here). And I also know this was not implemented. It seems pretty plausible that the IHSAA legal counsel advised them that they'd be considered a state actor in any litigation, which would bind them to the 14th Amendment guarantee of equal protection of the laws. Discriminating against Private/Parochial schools would be a pretty clear violation of the EP Clause. As such, the success factor rule they implemented applies to all member institutions.

I think when you look at this team, SR, THREE 1000 yard rusher does not make them one dimensional, it makes them very diverse in the running game. To compare if I could to last year: HH had two 1000 yard rushers a handful of others that rushed for 250-700, and a QB that threw it very similar to the SR QB (# of TDs are quite different) HH handled Danville because they did what they did, ran the ball and played solid defense. SR has an additional 1000 yard guy. My thoughts are this, run the ball, play solid defense and the outcome very well could be the same, a trip to LOS.

You just have to tell your children to pick the right 2 years to be good at sports. (WEBO) Could have won 2 consecutive state championships and stayed in 2A (with a regional loss this year). I am fine with the 6 point SF rule, but why not just make a running tally of any consecutive 2 years? Is it too much work to do reclassifications every year?

Not shocking that the IHSAA would screw that up also. I think the success factor is a good idea but the 2 year cycle is terrible. 1 really good class means you stand a good chance of getting bumped up. 2 years of success doesn't make you dominant.

New haven't wouldn't be a bad addition I don't know why they get so much hate. They have athletes if they could just get a good coaching crew and program built through the middle school they would be fine

Yep. Amy Beverland is the Geist elementary school. Used to be a direct feeder to Lawrence Central until open enrollment. Williams Creek is Washington Twp and arguably the wealthiest per capita neighborhood in Marion County. Would imagine most of those kids attend private school but a lot do go through the public school system.

Saying "Well, I didn't have Memorial in mind" doesn't get you off the hook. And that's part of the problem of dealing in generalities as you are. It would make no more sense for me to address "public schools" as a monolith, lumping in the athletically slumping Harrison with normally strong programs like Castle and Jasper. If private schools really have advantages that result in a predictable elevation in athletics, then there's absolutely no excuse for one of them having decade-plus long losing streaks to several public schools in their conference, isn't there? Moreover, why are we (or Mater Dei, etal), perennially crap at so many other sports? I mean, wouldn't you expect that we'd have a bunch of basketball trophies? We've never been to the state finals in boys basketball. And we rarely win the SIAC. Our T&F has never been anything special. Our volleyball has normally been pretty weak - with last year being a notable exception. Our wrestling is typically a comedy show -- yet Mater Dei's is phenomenal. Moreover, our soccer is a powerhouse...but Mater Dei's, not so much (boys, anyway...their girls have been great of late). Our biggest SIAC challenger in recent years has been Castle. An SIAC school has produced the last 4 state champion teams in girls golf. It's not Memorial or Mater Dei, though. It's North. Are we just not utilizing our advantages well enough in these other sports? But I still come back mostly to our long period of losing records in football. That's what we're here to discuss. We went years getting our teeth kicked in, despite these advantages you say we have. There's another conversation about Roncalli elsewhere. Apparently, they had an extended down period too. This year, they're great -- and that has some people talking about doing something about it.

In a "where is Waldo" shot gun wing T offense, it is easy for defenders to get very caught up in being locked into their run keys. This makes the surprise homerun pass very effective.

Remember IFCA proposal was 4 year 10 point cycle that IHSAA threw out and did there own 2 year 6 point language.

Marian was never “bad” during that time while St. Joe was good (up through around 2015). In fact, they beat St. Joe as often as not and made deep runs in the playoffs as well during that time. St. Joe is arguably “bad” at this point....and have been for about 5 years.

Recruiting is no longer (if it ever was) a logical complaint that can be used as open borders basically allow every school to "recruit." The public schools just justify it in the current era by saying, "Privates have done it for years and we are just trying to keep up." Basketball "recruiting" is as rampant as its ever been, especially in central Indiana right now. It has become about stockpiling as much talent as you can based on summer leagues and friendships formed in the offseason between players and coaches as well as players and other players. The "real" recipe (folks are going to get tired of me saying this in every thread) is the fact that families that send their kids to parochial schools are most often affluent, two parent households, with college educated parents who place a high priority on education. THAT is the difference more so than "keeping all of their talent from their feeder schools." Privates will always have an advantage and its not due to recruiting as much as it is due to SES.

My post was tongue firmly in cheek. I didn't mean it as a slight to Webo but as a criticism of the 2 year SF rule. Because they won state championships in the "wrong" two year window as opposed to Scecina who lost in the state finals in the "right" window. And I agree on the impact. Freshmen at Evansville Memorial set foot on campus this fall knowing they would play 4A football until their senior year, regardless of enrollment which currently sits in the 575 range.

Although it is expected that the IHSAA will make EVERY effort to put the Indy P/Ps in the same Sectionals, I question the wisdom of it when any one of those schools is bumped up since I am assuming that once a P/P is bumped up there is every incentive for the IHSAA to make sure they get the requisite 2 points to stay up. Putting a bumped up Roncalli in the same Sectional as Cathedral made it impossible to keep both programs in 5A. Somewhat like next year when they will inevitably put Chatard and Roncalli in the same Sectional. It might make everyone feel good to see that but it quite likely results in Chatard back in 3A in 2 years (particularly given all that I am hearing about the next 2 years at Roncalli). That said, though, most all the 4A South Sectionals have, at the moment, at least 1 really solid State Championship contender so there probably isn’t any good place to ship Chatard off to except with Roncalli.

I thought that was Scecina fan though now?/ Either way my Luers friends, those who have been around here a long long time dealt with some posters from Indy who would refer to playing Pioneer, or other rural schools as the difference in the upcoming game was the "city speed" vs other schools nothing more, nothing less Rooting for my friends at Pioneer to win this one and the next one as well. But I am a Region 4 guy!!

I see the Big push to get Roncalli up to 6A. This is a program that has won ONE state championship in the last 15 YEARS. ONE. One still too many boys? They went 10-13 the last two years. Put together a good year, and up two classes you go! Pathetic 20 years ago, pathetic now. I loved the sentence, "PPs will accept". Newsflash - No they will not and nor should they.
