  1. Carmel needed a literal Hail Mary to beat an inner-city Detroit Public with 1500 students where 67% are on a free or reduced lunch program. Center Grove in theory has a punchers chance in this game Friday night. Somebody out there give me Tim Bless’ thoughts on this game? Is it safe to play? As far as the game goes, give me Center Grove and their 2500 students and higher free and reduced lunch program in a big upset. 31-13 Trojans.

  2. I’d differ a bit with your phrase “a few great classes”. Prior to this year, New Pal had lost only 6 games in 8 years, won 4 Semi-States (played in 5) and 3 State Championships. When they did lose last year to Whiteland in Sectional and Columbus East in Semi-State in 2013 (maybe ‘14), they lost to two teams that were Top 10 Teams All Classes by most any quantitative measure. I might not differ with your underlying point but I wouldn’t consider New Pal the classic example. They’ve quite literally been on a decade long run that, for the most part, is almost unmatched. I’m certainly not writing any eulogy for New Pal any time soon (add that I think if they were back in 4A they would be facing a beastly Roncalli team this year….don’t know about next). I will admit that Brebeuf (whom I’ve watched twice) has a superior defense but a lot of the damage that was done New Pal Friday was entirely self-inflicted…..and entirely fixable.

  4. Snapped their losing streak tonight when they defeated West Central. After watching them vs NN, I do not think it will be their last win of the year if they can keep getting their talented Freshman class up to Varsity speed and keep their Mr. Everything QB healthy Kuddos to my friend @CoachDurham and crew

  8. Pretty good game. Western was bigger up front and moved the ball with more ease, at least it seemed to me, but I don't believe either team forced a punt. The difference was a long touchdown run Western broke with under 2 minutes left in the first half that put them up a full touchdown just before halftime so Western Boone did not have enough time to answer and 2 misssed conversions by Western Boone (first the xp and then the 2-point). Like this series for Western Boone. Gives them a tough program at a higher level to test themselves against early. The last 2 seasons have shown that losing this game does nothing but help them get better for the rest of the season. And if there was ever a time you like to see a team win, it's when they are having to deal with adversity like Western has this past week.

  9. Forgive me if there is a thread for this year already , doubt it though. Long gone are the days when this conference was a yearly top 5 conference. Unsure of other teams , only know that if bhss didn't have the Mccullough brothers and maybe one of the transfers from bhsn I think they would have played martinsville pretty even last Friday night.. bhss coach Johnson said in his radio pregame interview he is unsure why the boys transferred from bhsn but what is he supposed to do omit them from the team? Nah I think he just said he will gladly accept them but truly doesn't know why they keep transferring. From what I hear some folks are unhappy with coach bless at North. 'Some' I said and I've seen it myself on social media .... man I'm telling you former OSU commit flipped to IU Dasan McCullough(BHSS) may work himself into the Mr Football discussion by seasons end if he keeps doing what he does. Dude is a tornado out there touch 'ing' down 😆 at least oncee a game so far this season..

  10. Still here. Dragons are very young this year. 4 seniors on defense and 2 on offense. Really should have beat DC, even with a ton of mistakes, it came down to a FG attempt. Brebeuf is a good team that gave our young secondary all kinds of problems. Time to head into conference play and see what we've got.

  14. South Newton—Thumbs way, way, way up. Friday night’s win wasn’t only a romp, but a real attitude changer. They can easily have a winning season.

  15. Nice analysis as always @DT… A couple of honorary additions: Thumbs Up: HSE and Fishers: many wrote them off as legitimate programs after a rough 2020 Chatard - a program obviously not built upon moral victories but love how they came out and punched Warren in the mouth early Carroll (FW) - could have packed their bags after the week 1 loss to Luers but got off the mat and beat Snider Edinburgh - doing something to another team that used to be done to them on a regular basis Mooresville - not much to brag about in BEATING Danville but HOW they beat Danville was eye opening to me Thumbs Down: Penn - first Valpo (little shame) and now LaPorte? Making matters worse, they are getting on a bus Friday night into a buzzsaw. 6 hours on a bus for a contest that will be over in less than 6 minutes. Pike - LC seems to have figured something out but the same can’t be said for the Red Devils. Shut out at home and only 10 points in two weeks? Lafayette Jeff - did not see this one coming, whoa Southport - Yikes. When did the transition to the other township school take place? Snapped a 12 game winning streak over the Falcons. Plainfield - I just don’t get it. Growing suburban population, all of the resources to compete and loses to a 3A (albeit a damn good one) school within the same county borders

  16. Assume? I don't think my assessment of Dwenger is an assumption based on their performances over the past two weeks. Being that we're only two weeks in, I'll back off just a tad. Homestead is to Dwenger as Carroll is to Snider. Victorious, but not necessarily better.

  17. Carmel has the higher free lunches. Carmel by 2. https://edsource.org/2021/usda-extends-free-meals-through-next-school-year/653335#:~:text=April 20%2C 2021-,7 Comments,year%2C USDA officials announced Tuesday.

  18. This JUST came up on our game this past Friday night (Talcum/Baby Powder). I spoke to the AD at halftime about the LEGAL ramifications that the school could expose themselves to (on the recommendation of an evaluator who was at our game). An announcement was made to refrain from this sort of celebration. But IMO, I think this is ultimately an IHSAA situation that THEY need to address! We have 5 officials on the field whose primary focus in the field itself...not the student sections of the host institution. The IHSAA needs to step in! Not officials....

  20. You couldn’t afford it anyways, so no reason to even attempt to acquire money from someone like you 😂. I forgot we only pick and choose which public schools are being victimized.. carry on. I was always told to be nice to the less fortunate, I need to be much nicer to Temp.

  24. Teams are required to be out for the 3 minute warm-up after halftime. It's possible they could have been out at the end of the 3-minute warm-up but not the beginning and that's when the penalty would be enforced. That's likely what happened.

  25. They are a victim…of their own success. The current crop of kids is being “punished” due to the success of their predecessors. A public school of 1000-1100 kids can only punch above their weight for so long.

  26. WHS drops their opener against McLean Co. (KY) 18-8. Offense is still a work in progress; defense looked somewhat improved outside of some big rushing plays. McLean Co. fumbled the ball a handful of times and I would've liked to see the Hatchets land on a few more of those. Think that could've changed the outcome of the game. Line play looked improved from last year, even with losing a few seniors from last year's squad. Still plenty of room for improvement on line play in the eyes of this Old Hog... Onward to week 3 as the Titans descend upon Hatchet Hallow from Tartarus (otherwise known as Ft. Branch). As someone who likes to think of themselves as an objective fan, I DO NOT foresee the Hatchet's putting a stop to the buzz saw that is Gibson Southern. Imagine if you will a Makita cutting into a stick of butter that had been left on the counter. My hope is the Titans don't score triple digits and both teams come out unscathed from injury. Putting up some TDs for confidence wouldn't hurt either!

  27. What did we learn this week? GS dominates another larger school. Heritage Hills says...passing is for sissies....back to the bone. Can Tell City regroup for the small conference games? Mt. Vernon.... Ready to hang with the big dogs after almost hanging a 50 burger on poor South Spencer? Is South Spencer better than Tell City? Is North Posey pretty good or is Princeton....Princeton? Forest Park....I didn't anticipate this. Southridge...plug and play. I guess all the scrimmage hype the Boonville kids were throwing out on twitter might have been a little premature.

  34. I communicated a suggestion to the IHSAA that some sort of informational directive to crew chiefs might be helpful. And it was again made very clear to me that they want this penalized if it delays play as unsportsmanlike conduct, and reported.

  35. Release from Triton: It is with sad and heavy hearts that we are making our community aware of the passing of Triton Scholar Cameron Fairchild. Shortly after 3pm today, Cameron was involved in a car accident. School personnel, counselors, and clergy are at the school for those who may need a safe space to speak with someone or grieve. We ask that you lift Cameron’s family up in prayer as we do our best to support them, our student body, and staff through this difficult time. Tell the ones close to you that you love them and may this difficult time be a reminder to all of us to not take those around us for granted. Thank you Triton Community for your prayers and unwavering love for our scholars through the coming days and weeks. Trojan PRIDE,The Trojan Way!!! Fairchild was a senior on this years team.
