  1. I know Avon's defense has been God-awful this year, but this performance needs to be recognized. In Zionsville's 52-49 win last night, Price ran 26 times for 416 yards and 5 TD's. That is an incredible night, irrespective of opponent. Also want to recognize from the same game the performance of Chrishon McCray, 4 TD's receiving to go with 230 yards, and a TD pass thrown in for good measure. Two amazing individual performances from two very good players.

  2. Like! (all but cheering for the Trojans) This isn't just the game of the decade, it's the annual game of the century! I just hope both teams come out of this game injury free. It should be a good one. The Irish defense is better than last year, and the offense is getting better week by week.

  3. A false start includes both a shift that simulates the start of the play, and any act clearly designed to cause the defense to encroach.

  4. The rubber match game between two unbelievable senior classes. 2018 Cathedral Frosh 14 Center Grove 7 2020 Center Grove Juniors 17 CHS 13 Both schools have taken care of business. Time to settle it all. CHS has been waiting a year for this. Should be awesome!

  5. Luers- the knights are marching on and coach k has the scheme and talent to finish the job..seeing a 2a program run the table is what high school football is all about.. Carroll- Dinan has them hitting on all the gears needed for sectional play..that dynamo at wr will wreck havoc yet NLC foes will have no fear. Snider- if the panthers would like to paint the bell blk n gold once again they have their chance this week..weather is getting colder.. hits will be harder.. Homestead- head scratching season thus far..can't win them all..went through Carroll district today n they are building on as well..bball may still be king.. Dwenger- cyo teams know how to win in the playoffs..nuff said Northrop- surprising win last week..they are gaining traction just in time n may surprise someone Concordia- 3a sectional will suite them well..they have had a tough go yet nothing to be ashamed of Wayne- one of the best rb in the area..good size lines...gr8 head coach..makes me wonder if the team chemistry is there..L.A. Lakers anyone? Northside- see above Southside- totem pole game was close n calhoun street brawl was a beat down..sectional win would be huge for them moving forward..

  6. I am not going to drive two hours to stand five deep in the end zone in a pouring rain to watch this game. I will drive two hours to sit in Lucas Oil Stadium to sit in comfort to watch the game of the year. Move the game!!

  7. This is a double foul because there was a change of possession on the play, and the team in possession at the end of the down (Webo) had fouled before the change of possession, and Webo’s foul was not a post-scrimmage kick foul. Since it’s a double foul, there are no options. The penalties offset and the down is replayed.

  8. Im almost always in agreement with your opinions on Penn but the kids going across the stateline, which they are, is not causing what is happening at Penn. Edwardsburg won Div 4 state in 2018. They lost in Div 3 regionals in 2019 and in Div 4 semifinals in 2020 and neither opponent went on to win state. One of the Eddies' best returning RB this year "migrated" back across the stateline to Elkhart this year and was hoping for a monster year but got injured. So, i dont think this senior class at Penn (which will average 5 losses their soph thru senior years) was from some kids going up to Edwardsburg. With the loss to NP, this will be Penn's first losing season since the year before Geesman got here(winless in 1972). This Penn senior class is still way over 800 kids unless "they have left the nest in droves". There are still plenty of "Gold Rush" and "Wild Bunch" kids walking the hallways. Maybe not D1 kids, but Penn never has had them to rely on throughout the Geesman/Yeoman era. They have almost always overperformed against more talented teams to win those championships. The kids just arent buying/believing(take your pick) into the coaching philosophy that we followed and saw daily that produced championships. Penn has not won a state championship in 21 years. My 5 kids have only known the "Penn" way to win on the field at a state level from Dad talking about it and watching his VCR tapes from the 80s and 90s.

  9. I saw in a battle of teams with perfect losing records that TH South pulled out the win to avoid a winless season, but has no chance of beating CN next week. After getting beat up the past two weeks, North will finish the regular season with a probable win over Southport which is shooting for an 0-9 record. South is finishing up with the best 4-4 team in the state in Chatard. I haven't seen anything on David to know if he will be available. He's had an extra week to recover from the sprained ankle, but I don't know if it was a high ankle sprain or what that might keep him out. With the bye week, South has had the chance to put in some new wrinkles on offense, but I don't know if they will do something like that and just stick with what they have been doing. It's not a conference game and the Panthers are locked up with 2nd place, so they just need to come out of the Chatard game healthy.

  11. Sorry, yes encroachment. Too much Sunday in my brain sometimes.

  12. And this is why coaches keep trying this illegal crap: because sometimes they get away with it. That crew just made it doubly tough on the crews that Coach is going to see the rest of the season. And that’s encroachment. No such thing as “offsides” in high school football.

  13. Or, the fact that even fewer opportunities for advancement in the playoffs causes even more officials to leave in frustration, and retention rates continue to decline, actually exacerbating the shortage.

  14. What those men down field....apparently that is against the rules.

  15. Well, I don’t know about that. But I do know that Hurley has always liked mixing things up in the post-season. A couple years ago, Brock Combs went from barely touching the ball during the regular season to ending up as the team’s leading rusher primarily from carries in the post-season. Obviously, if you can successfully pull previously unused weapons out of the arsenal, it’s hard on opposing defenses.

  16. I would also add once lineman put hand on ground for 3 point stance if they move hand off ground it’s a false start

  18. #1 6A / #8 National Ranked Center Grove vs. #1 5A / #39 National Raked Cathedral. That is a fair question, and I actually asked a high level Cathedral administrator about that at the beginning of the season in anticipation of this show-down of both undefeated powerhouses. It is / has gotten very expensive to move a high school football game to another venue. A few years ago it cost Cathedral $7,500 to host a game at Butler Bowl and $5,000 to host game at Marian College. Basically, if Cathedral moves the game they have to pay.

  19. Assuming you are being serious.. Cathedral vs Center Grove…. If not, I caught your sarcasm.

  20. If they are giving you the pass...you take the pass. Memorial will run when teams empty the box...take what they give you.

  21. The way I see it, Irish D has given up 35 points this season through 8 games. One touchdown against first team 11 Gold in Brownsburg, Chatard, Columbus North, Cincy LaSalle, and Brebeuf.

  22. Gonna be a lot of fun. Two great teams playing for nothing but pride. I’ve got kids I love on both rosters but will be cheering for my Trojans…and for no injuries.

  23. The one big difference is that with IG, this is a safety whether the penalty is accepted or declined.

  24. Welp. Leave it to Avon to score 7 touchdowns and still end up on the short end. On a brighter note…. McCray 12 more catches, 230 more yards. He’s the state’s leader in receiving yards and it isn’t close. Already committed to Kent State…. might a P5 school be tempting him?

  25. So since Mr. Hoover on Indiana High School Football fans says Tipton doesn’t take week 9 seriously to protect players for the tournament. Can we expect Tipton to send their JV players only to the Ivory tower on South 9th St? ’We want the Knights’ was heard all the way in Lafayette around 9:15 tonight.

  28. You’re a good dude. Heard this “blah…blah” legalistic stuff before….sorry. Still….not buying. Even 30 some odd years post law school I can still flog most any position enthusiastically. Still, some things are to obvious to ignore….and, yet, someone will always validate them. Sectional 28 ALONE tells me everything I EVER needed to know as regards the IHSAA and fairness (specifically as regards Catholic schools) in Sectional pairings. After that, everything else is smoke, mirrors and ABSOLUTE BS. Not that Bobby Cox has anything to do with things these days but I shared a Butler U track locker room with him roughly 40 years ago. No way he is drilling down the way you just did. Again…Sectional 28 says it all. In Indy, Chatard, Cathedral and Roncalli will be paired whenever and wherever possible….PERIOD. We accept it….but we expect folks to not blow smoke up our posteriors and tell us it’s somehow fair.

  31. I know its the elephant in the room and it won't affect the outcome of the game, but this facility that this matchup is being played at is just disappointing. And I know I will be jumped by Cathedral faithful, but with all these beautiful facilities in central Indiana that high schools have built and this game has to be played at this rundown stadium. It's Cathedral football, one of the best programs of all time, and they are hosting Center Grove at Arlington. My rant is over. Time for some football. Anyway... I will take CG 20-17.
