PAC JV Large School HH has had quite a few hiccups and couple butt whoopins at the Varsity level however… a bright note is the JV team is still undefeated and should win against Princeton this coming Monday barring something freakishly happening or a cancel. several Frosh and sophs are playing varsity and not JV makes next season hopes of doing better than what has been accomplished so far this year going into week 9.

Might as well cancel the 1A tournament. I read on Facebook that North Decaturs can beat Ben, Davis and Caramel, I swear to God I did. This came from one of @Bobref’s ref buddies. He also said their freshman qb is already a D1 player.

I've only been tracking what a playoff qualifying format using Sagarin would look like since 2015 so I do not have the end of regular season Sagarin ratings for that year, just the final results that Sagarin has archived. Understanding how Sagarin works, beating 255 West Noble and 154 Heritage for Luers first and second wins in the postseason likely wouldn't have been enough to propel Luers from outside the top 32 all the way up to #23. In fact, it probably hurt Luers overall Sagarin ranking if anything. Although I can't say with 100% conviction, I'm 99.9% positive that 0-9 Luers finished in the top half of Sagarin. Now, since I've been tracking this since 2015, I can say with 100% certainty that Luers has made the field every year in a hypothetical format that effectively cuts the field in half and that includes the 2019 team that finished 2-7 and lost in the sectional semi-finals and the 2020 team that finished 3-6 and lost in the state finals.

GS plays a tougher opponent 1st round than OV, so lesser chance to win Sectional. But if they win Sectional, they have a greater chance of winning Regional, etc.

You could have two 8-0 teams playing for the sectional championship and still have a blowout game. In 1988 Sheridan won the sectional final 53-6, and they were playing the second best team in that sectional. LCC 2011 Sectional 1st round 47-6 2nd round 56-6 Final 69-8 In 1988 Sectional 2nd round Delphi 8-1 vs Seeger 7-1 Seeger got the bye and had two weeks to get ready for Delphi. There was a big crowd at Delphi and everyone thought it was going to be a good game. Delphi won 64-12. You can do whatever you want, but its not going to stop blowout games. You never know what the score might be.

How does that enhance Indiana high school football? Two teams who are a combined 1-17 playing each other while two teams who are undefeated playing in the same round doesn't sit right with me nor should it with anybody else. It's silly. It doesn't happen anywhere but Indiana.

This! I watched A LOT of NFL football Sunday, and there were harder hits on QB's that didn't get called than the 2 in question. We know why it was called with Brady. Last night was not such a flagrant pandering job, so I don't understand why they even called it.

The QB's need some protection, but not as much as they're getting nowadays. And it seems that the rule isn't applied equally.

Sectional title or higher....that is an accomplishment. Even a sectional runner up that gave the expected champion a heck of a game, making them earn it.

Turned on Chiefs-Raiders in time to see how the NFL has ruined football, heard Troy Aikman's comments and turned it off. Tony Dungy and others have weighed in on how the NFL is ruining the game since. The game has become unrecognizable to me. Although I do not miss Jack Tatum paralyzing people, I do think we have lost a lot over the years with how the rules have absolutely neutered American tackle football.

Heh Heh. I just got a new property assessment from our County Assessor. Our assessed valuation went up by over $16,000. 😞 Yay, more insane property taxes. Have to help pay for that $7.5 million downtown park, a brand new police station, and a new pool/aquatic center.

My guess is Shortridge’s gate for a home game would be less than their slice of the sectional pie which could include some very high profile games. Reasonable chance their slice of a Brebeuf/Roncalli match up could be bigger than a home gate.

Heard an interesting argument on the radio the other day. The guy was saying the move to EV’s is a game changer in that it will be the end of the hoopty. HS kids won’t be able to keep EV’s on the road, due to costs of replacement batteries, shade tree mechanicing will be difficult with Uber tech and high voltage DC. My guess is we’ll see a whole new breed of hot rodders born, but the high school hoopty may well be a thing of the past.

Our crew had the 7-0 game at CG (2016). Up until that time, the best HS contest we ever had.... Great Atmosphere! Bad sight lines for fans I suspect with the 'old' CG stadium configuration.

I have a feeling that Warren Central might shock the state and win 6A this year. If the Warriors beat Center Grove, history says that they will go on to win state.

Couple of general questions ... not advocating for or against: What would this do to the current conference system implemented in Indiana? Many folks are grouped in a conference by geographic proximity, age-old rivalries, etc. Several of these are situations where there's an imbalance in ability, yet the schools still play. In cases where rivalries have remained while the current competitiveness has fluctuated, a qualifying playoff would seem to push these to be less desired and even viable. Yes, some schools might decide to "stick out" those rivalries, but for some schools a single game could be the difference between making the cut and not making the cut; even if there's a win. The argument is to add a tougher opponent to counter your rivalry game, but it becomes an issue of figuring out how much you need to offset that rivalry game, you could potentially shoot yourself in the foot in scheduling. Given the above, assuming that conferences stayed, would this likely accelerate a major set of conference shakeups and result in, by necessity of play, conferences that would be "whatever's leftover?" In other words teams in the quarter to third of conferences that are average overall, look for stronger alliances to make sure they don't get caught in the borderline eliminations based on teams they play in conference. Similar "top thirds" band together or eject the bottom quarter or third in their conference. What's left are many "bottom thirds," that, in order to have a conference, likely have to travel greater distances or, perhaps even have to play bottom-third teams of higher classes, e.g., a 2A bottom third playing 4A bottom thirds. We already have some of this currently, but a qualification application might exacerbate this further. For those that get left out and have to go "independent" they are likely facing more travel distance or incomplete seasons ... which are even more problematic. Many conferences right now are based, if you exclude issues like travel, on more cumulative aspects than just football. For example, some programs are in a conference not only to compete in football, but other sports as well. Some teams that are in less-than-perfect football conferences tend to be in the conference for the balance of the other sports. Right now, programs suffer no major potential drawbacks for balancing portfolios; however, might that change or be impacted by a qualification requirement for football? My two most recent states have been Texas and Indiana, so I'm fairly familiar with the all-in and the forced qualification process and understand the general good/bad in them. The difference in Texas and Indiana is the lack of conferences outside of the artificial conferences that Texans refer to as districts, so it really doesn't weigh in to the Texas qualification system like it could in a state like Indiana. Again, not picking one over the other in these questions, but asking some questions that are beyond the discussion we typically had in Texas.

That is what happened during my high school playing days under the dreaded cluster system.

One more week left in the regular season...this upcoming week is kind of being overshadowed by playoff talk. Here are my observations from last weeks games and this weeks predictions: Mishawaka / Concord: Im not sure if Concord is on the upswing or Mishawaka is on the downswing. Its good for Concord going into the playoffs...may be concerning for Mishawaka going into the playoffs. Concord showed up to play! This was a good defensive game...that will be replayed here in a couple of weeks. In all the other games, there were no suprises...all the teams preformed as everyone thought they would. This weeks predictions: Concord V. Plymouth: Concord is playing at a higher level than they did in the begining of the year. Plymouth is playing the exact same. I dont see Plymouth being very competative in this game. Concord by 28 Goshen V. NorthWood: This may be the most lopsided NLC game of the year. Goshen is really struggling with the injury bug and NorthWood is well...being NorthWood. I forsee alot of younger guys getting alot of playing time and a running clock starting as soon as possible. NorthWood by 60ish? Mishawaka V. Wawasee: This will be a good game for Mishawaka to rest some of their players for the playoffs. When NorthWood played them, their running back (#14 i believe) was fantastic...however...everytime he got the ball...his shoulder injury would act up. I noticed Wawasee was using their back up QB...im not sure if their normal QB was injured or if something else was going on. Either way I see Mishawaka winning big. Mishawaka by 42 Warsaw V. Northridge: This will be the best game to finish up NLC play. You never know what Northridge team is going to show up each week. Their defense is excellent one week...then the next...suspect. Warsaw will run their offense, and it comes down to how Northridge handles it. Im going to take Northridge at home. Northridge by 7.

I wonder how they would respond if you asked Shortridge — and others in the same situation — their preference: Would you rather have a 1st round sectional game in which you have no practical chance, and in all likelihood will end your season with a running clock, or a 10th regular season game against an opponent of your choosing and no participation in the tournament? Please explain this statement. I’d like to hear how you came to that conclusion.

Interesting point. The IHSAA is damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they implemented a qualifier and eliminated half the teams from the field, there would be an uproar. And you'd have loss of athletic department revenue. The only solution in my opinion is to seed the tournament with an all-in format. Sure there'll be lots of blowouts, but like they say, get better or get used to it. I just don't like to see good programs like Penn, Carroll, Brownsburg, and Ben Davis pack their bags after the first week. Those hard working programs earned their way to a deeper run.
