  1. I think many people's perspectives get skewed in regards to this issue because of the great success of a few private schools, generally in football. And you aren't wrong about only using enrollment. That's why the success factor was implemented. Personally I think the success factor window should be 4 years not 2 but that's another discussion. I just don't believe separating Private schools and Public Schools is the answer. And I do believe that schools on a relatively equal playing field should just "get better" if they want to win. I can tell you from being close to the New Pal program and having a kid playing there when Coach Ralph came that's exactly what they did. They didn't magically just get better athletes or kids and turn into a football power overnight. They dramatically increased their off season work. It can be done anywhere.

  5. Look, I realize a lot of you think a championship is the only thing. It's not. A few good moments on the field, one hell of a victory party, etc. But it ends there as time does not stand still. People move on... ...as I said in an earlier post, I never won a state championship in high school, yet I was cool with it and still am. I'm no longer a football player, yet I'm killing it in my career--that's the real victory! If I trampled on some of your feelings, I would like to expend my most sincere apologies, but I would also like to remind you football is a game, and games should be fun.

  8. 😂😂😂😂...I’m dying over here. Okay okay.....so lemme get this straight... you are saying memorials success these last few years was more about coaching than athletes...even though before 2017 Hurley’s coaching record 59-52...if you go back to Lindauers sophomore year...he was 50-48. Lindauers freshman year Memorial went 2-8. The 3 years prior to that memorial had to scratch and claw to get to 3 or 4 wins on a season and then...AND THEN 😂 you wanna make offhand/between the line comments about a coach who has gone 76-12. And on that note...vs public schools he has a record of 73-6...leaving a record of 3-6 vs p/p schools. 5 of the 6 losses were to teams who made it to the state finals (3 of those 5 won the state title) I think you are undercutting the athletes you guys had....especially Lindauer and Combs...both of them were once in a generation players and to say coaching was the reason for success is a huge discredit to their abilities IMO. In regards to this whole conversation and this “get better” movement.... get better...just triple the number of players on your team. Get better...just take a historically losing team with no sectional titles to a winning tradition and a 76-12 record over 12 years. Get better...have your community take one empty stands and pack them so much that you have to bring in extra bleachers and build a larger stand section. Get better....have your student athletes commit year round to bettering themselves...during the summers for the past 5/6 years travel to Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and the Indianapolis area to play against numerous top programs and champions from Michigan to Oklahoma to Alabama and is everywhere in between. Get better...try and make your schedule as tough as possible with conference restrictions...do so well that your conference welcomes the idea of your team leaving the conference and you get a conference realignment that will allow you to schedule 4A/5A/6A teams.... ”get better. Just get better. It’s as easy as that”. Telling a team to “get better” is a lot easier if you are talking about a team that isn’t giving it everything they got...and for GS, the community, the coaches (even at the youth levels), and especially the players are giving absolutely everything they got and have been for the better part of this decade. At this point, I don’t think anyone could possibly ask the Gibson Southern community and its players to work any harder or sacrifice more in the goal of getting better. “Get better” such an asinine comment

  11. I love the "logic" of pieces like this: because some people falsely claimed they were victims of racism, that somehow indicates that actual acts of racism must not be occurring? I guess we can advise our wives and daughters and female friends to relax -- since some women have been caught lying about being raped, that must mean that real rapes don't actually happen much. And the thread deviates into a demand for statistical support for Dante's (admittedly inane) statement about other countries closing their doors to Americans, yet no one has questioned exactly what evidence this essay's author relies on when he makes the bald assertion that, "America is one of the least racist countries in the history of the world...." Measured how?

  15. Given the fact the p/p schools make up less than 10% of all football playing high schools recognized by the IHSAA I would say the data does the support the argument. P/p schools have advantages public high school will never have. This has been hashed and rehashed multiple times here on the GID.

  16. Beating Memorial hasn't been a problem 50% of the time (through hard work and top notch coaching JMO) and couldn't beat vs didn't beat Chatard are two completely different things. Your ability to turn any thread to a chest bumping opportunity for your fantastic run is pretty remarkable. Great team, great athletes....you deserve it. But everyone on this thread knows that enrollment only won't work due to the inherent ability of privates to have more quality kids per capita. It is undeniable.

  17. I think 3A public schools in SW Indiana have been disappointed because some of their best teams they’ve had couldn’t beat Chatard or Memorial to advance in the state tournament over the past 10 or so years. I think coaching and work habits had more to do with it than just athletes. JMO.

  19. Trust me, if I were them I would advocate for the status quo as well....no one likes to give up an advantage they KNOW they have. I wouldn't really advocate for two separate tournaments in Indiana just because their probably aren't enough Privates to make it work. Enrollment only isn't the answer though and virtually every state in the union acknowledges that much. The question is, what is the best method by which two completely different institution types can complete on an even playing field? It is debated here often and we will never have agreement....I will say though as I look at it multipliers look more appealing to me than they used to only because there are so many models/states out there now as case studies.

  20. I will bet you ONE MILLION DOLLARS that Blitz's tweet from the Luers coach are wrong. The 2-Point Minimum Success Factor rule ONLY applies to programs that are CURRENTLY BUMPED UP TO A HIGHER CLASS AFTER EARNING 6+ POINTS IN THE PREVIOUS CYCLE. Luers won the 2A State title in 2011 & 2012. That bumped them up to 3A for the 2013-14 cycle. They earned only 2 Points in 13-14 & would have fallen back into 2A except their enrollment had jumped up into the 3A level. So they stayed in 3A due to enrollment for 2015-16 (0 points) & 2017-18 (3 points). For the 2019-20 cycle, they will be in 2A due to enrollment. Even though Luers earned 3 points in the previous cycle, they can & will drop to 2A because they were in 3A due to enrollment, not due to the Success Factor. I repeat-- For the 2019-20 cycle, FW Luers will be in 2A due to enrollment.

  25. My 'Beef" has been I have sat in IFCA board meeting since 2010, I have heard 5 times now that the state is going to make Basketball fall in line with football when it comes to competition days, workouts, etc. Just this last spring....... I am not upset at all about Mort week, nor am I about the football set up in the summer, we are far ahead of the curve, just stop saying the other sports will get in line going on almost 10 years when there is no end in sight for that to actually come to fruition. Wrestling, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball "clubs" are nothing more then a get around and many get sold on the "exposure" tour if you will, for some it is time and money well spent, for others its not, and more power to those who do, just when it comes to IHSAA and summer restrictions it would be nice to see others follow IFCA lead.
