about 4 weeks into the season for all the teams playing. Every team in Indiana who got to play this weekend only was able to see each other or possibly a controlled scrimmage last week, with many of those not even going on. I know for our team, I am not panicing, as that was our 1st game vs a solid 4a team after only seeing 14-16 year old scout team players last 2 weeks. THAT IS A HUGE difference and the process is just now beginning. Not complaining, just the reality of the situation everyone is under. Got 9 weeks to get it right with our teams around the state of Indiana. Just my thoughts after reading comments on our site and online here since kickoff. Excited to be back and hope to stay back.4 points

This beginning of the season thing is so jaded for the covid stuff, that everyone needs to relax and just enjoy that you have football to watch. There are kids from both teams that are quarantined or dont have enough practices and guys are playing who might not even be starters. remember these kids only really started practice 3 weeks ago and had no real summer or spring to practice. For at least this one afternoon, we had a dramatic ending to a good football game on a Saturday afternoon. We better enjoy it, because there are no guarantees going forward.3 points

I loved Week 1! After my initial skepticism that I hid from, well, no one, it was great to take in the action. There were the predictable outcomes as well as the surprise upsets no one saw coming which makes high school football so great. To Week 2...2 points

That’d be impossible since Illinois doesn’t start playing until week 2 in Indiana. And no. The series went 5-5 over the last decade. Classic rivalry that won’t end any time soon.1 point

You’re correct. Under the National Federation code, a kick (other than one that scores) is dead when the ball breaks the plane of the goal line. In your example, the only thing that determines whether a kick results in a touchback is the position of the ball.1 point

Floyd Central was awful in basketball for like 15 years and hired Todd Sturgeon and now they have a top 10 program in the state. They had a decent football program under Brian Glesing but I think they’re going to another level under coach Bragg and his staff. Coaching matters as long as the kids will listen to it. We have good kids at FC. They have good kids in Columbus.1 point

Yes I think all teams will look better as the season advances into season. Still can’t say many expected that outcome. Was that more being down a couple guys or is Glenn actually going to be decent team this year? I know when I looked for scores Friday night I was surprised by quite a few of them. If College and Pro is like this I’ll hold off on placing bets on games this season. Totally unpredictable.1 point

This is a solid take. I know in Boone's situation, there are no excuses for the rout that took place. However, losing our QB/K early and not having some of our big men up front did not help us. Another factor is having minimal time to prepare with a very young team. I cannot imagine what its like for other teams that are losing starters to quarantine as well. I definitely think you are right with waiting until week 4 to get a really solid grasp on these teams. Best of luck to everyone!1 point

Random thoughts: 1. Marian beating Mishawaka seems like a big deal to me. 2. GIbson Southern is playing about as tough a first couple of week’s schedule as anybody in 3A (except Brebeuf...and maybe Chatard, Guerin and West Lafayette). Certainly the toughest schedule in the South so far. 3. West Lafayette losing to Jeff by 11 is an impressive loss. The main difference from prior years in this matchup is the relatively low scoring nature of the game. West Lafayette looks to be as good as billed. McCutcheon this week. Should give us a little feel how they compare to Guerin early on. 4. Brebeuf is in the meat grinder again this week at New Pal. I still don’t have a feel for just how good they are....or Chatard for that matter. That said, Friday’s game had relatively few penalties vs. year’s past. Gotta’ think New Pal is licking their chops after having had to sit home this Friday, though. Could be a long night for the Preppies. 5. Chatard v. East Central would normally be a matchup between two State contenders in 3A and 4A, respectively. I still have no sense as to where Chatard fully stands. EC whooped 3A contender Lawrenceburg on Friday. Chatard has won the last 2 meetings (maybe the only 2 meetings). I think EC plays Cincy Moeller next week, btw. Not sure any 4A team is playing as tough of a schedule as EC is early on. 6. Concordia has lots of kids back and won big Friday. Monster test against Homestead coming up. Big SAC game. 7. Guerin beating 5A McCutcheon is a big deal. They now stand 2-1 vs. McCutcheon the last 3 years. Decatur Central coming up. DC has been as good a 5A team as you might find the last few years. BIG test for Guerin. 8. Danville v. 4A Mooresville Could be interesting. My guess is that the ball will spend most of its time in the air. Mooresville has lost the last 2 Regionals in close games. Danville seems likely wired for Semistate again by default if they simply beat Tri-West in Sectional again. Mooresville has done nothing but get better the last 3 years under Gillin. Its really going to be a while, in my opinion, before teams start shaping up so I am expecting some massive turnarounds by many teams. Still, I know some comment has been made regarding a lot of losses amongst the early high-ranked 3A teams but I would argue that a lot of those teams are playing tougher early schedules than years past. Anybody else have any observations?1 point

4 sophomores on the OL bodes well for the next few years! Having that chemistry will make for an easy life for whoever is under center or running the ball.1 point

They have very talented sophomore class with some solid JR's and a SR QB who has been a starter since halfway through his Freshman year I believe. An All State type kicker. Brand new 8 million dollar investment in facilities and a renewed spirit. They will not be judged by their non conference schedule of RCHS, Wheeler, S.B. Washington, and North Newton, as they shouldn't be, however I would suspect if they can keep things together and healthy find themselves in some winnable opportunities in the NCC. I would be utterly shocked if they are not 4-0 going into conference games. Judgement day for the Kougars will be Game 6 vs Lowell.1 point

No surprises really. Memorial young and ranked #1 from going 41-3 last 3 years. North is a good team. Central and MD combined for 7 ints and 200 plus yards of penalties. VL snd Reitz should have looked dominant. Offenses looked sluggish in games where two decent or above averages team faced off. Expected that from lack of game type reps over summer. And no siac fan talks much after wins over Harrison or Bosse. Praying all siac teams stay healthy for week 2.1 point

Just went out to pick up a copy of The Times, Post-Tribune, La Porte County Herald-Dispatch and South Bend Tribune. None of them no longer have their high school football preview supplement as they have had over the past decades. Very sad and disappointing sign of the times.1 point

It would be interesting to have coronavirus antibody tests conducted on all of the workforce. We know at least five people tested positive on two seperate occassions. I often wonder if herd immunity has occurred. Our workforce has worked a bunch of hours each week since the coronavirus outbreak and the union workers absolutely will not wear masks or social distance.0 points

Anyone who believes cheap non medical grade masks from China are protecting them from the coronavirus lacks common sense. I have already stated the manufacturing plant where I work employs over 1,000 union workers where 80-90% refuse to wear masks or social distance. I observe hundreds of people every day playing cards at picnic tables during their break and lunch periods. They sit across from one another in groups of four. No one is more than two feet from the other three and no one is wearing a mask. This has been going on since the company initiated a mandatory mask policy 3 months ago yet our plant has had no further spread of the coronavirus.0 points
