I just got a chance to read this and I am so thankful to be able to meet people like this and work with some top notch school systems. A Positive Story.docx In this strange unpredictable world of Covid-19, I have a very positive story I would like to share with you. Last week my team, the Rensselaer Central Bombers prepared very hard for our next opponent, the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights. We were scheduled for a major Hoosier Conference showdown to be played at their place. My team came to school wearing their game jerseys all fired up for the big game. At 9:00am after my first class I teach, our school athletic director, informed me that the game had been cancelled by Central Catholic due to Covid issues. With less than 10 hours to go before kick off, I expressed to our athletic director that I would like to see if any team is out there available and willing to play on such short notice and he agreed. Within an hour we had our opponent. The North Knox Warriors had two games already cancelled on them this season due to Covid. Pike Central cancelled on them for last Friday. As fate had it, by 11am on Friday, our athletic director, Ken Hickman had reached out to North Knox’s athletic director, Kent Doades and the next thing I knew was we would be playing a football game on Saturday. With North Knox being 3 1/2 hours away, the next issue was where would this game be played? That’s where this story gets even better. Covington High School was contacted to see if they would be willing to host this game as a neutral site. The athletic director there, Trent McCormick was gracious enough to accept the game as a neutral site host. So, this past Saturday the Rensselaer Central Bombers and the North Knox Warriors got together in Covington, Indiana and played a 48 minute game of high school football. Both communities came to Covington to support their teams. For two teams that had never played each other in any sport, this was a first. Hats off to all three schools and their athletic directors and administration for allowing this to happen. Needless to say it was a beautiful afternoon of pads popping, fans cheering, and sportsmanship by all. It was a great time by all! I am not going to share the score with you because it doesn’t matter. What mattered was we played! Finally, thank you to all of you at the IHSAA for having the foresight to allow us to play high school sports this Fall. It has meant so much for our student athletes, coaches, parents, and communities. Through your guidance and leadership it is amazing to see us entering Week 7 in football. Been rough for sure, especially last year. This year there's only 1 win but they've been MUCH more competitive minus the 1st game of year, the offensive numbers this year compared to last year are WAY better and lets not forget the ICC is a VERY strong conference, plus add Linton to it. We lost on the road to Linton 42-36 i think it was, we lost at home to Triton Central 33-20 and if you take off the pick-6 it was 26-20, lost at 4A Beech Grove 29-14 and had our chances to score in that game and shot ourselves in the foot with TO's, I think we finally have the right coach in place, Coach Olson was here for many years including the great run we had in 2014, 2015, 2016. Monrovia was always known for how well we ran the ball, but what was about as impressive was how physical those teams were, you didn't see Monrovia pushed around up front on either side of the ball, last year and this year it's been hard to watch us get blown off the ball on both sides of the ball. There is some nice young talent here as well, i think the future is bright with Coach Olson at the reigns, just gotta push threw these rough times.

Here are the facts: MVHS was contacted by Boonville HS a little after 2 PM today. A Boonville player tested positive for Covid that was a two-way starter. This player had symptoms on Saturday, therefore you have to go back 48 hours for contact tracing, which puts the game on Friday night into question. Per Posey County Health Officials, any MV player that touched the positive Boonville player during the game (tackle, blocked, ran into, etc.) would be quarantined for 14 days. MV lost 16 varsity players. I did not impact the MV JV squad, because most of those kids did not play on Friday night. As a result, MV will not be able to play the next two weeks.

I don’t think the answer is contraction I think the answer is the opposite of success factor the unsuccessful factor. Struggling programs like this get knocked down a class till they can compete

I'm an old fart that doesn't know all of the ins and outs of some of this new forms of communication. Now where is that "embarrassed" emoji?

Monrovia is much improved and heading in the right direction for sure. Their staff has them playing hard and getting after it!

Indeed my friend @itiswhatitis Appreciate all that came together to get this game in. Simiular style of offense with a few wrinkles from each offensive squad. I thought we did a nice job of moving people out and getting good chunks, but too many silly penalites, only 1 hold that I still cannot find on film, the rest looked like no doubters and cannot do that consistency, especially with our style of ground and pound. It was nice getting 2 backs over 100 yards: Just finished stats, been behind all weekend. Our Feature back #32 had 26 for 174 and 3 touchdowns and caught 1 too. He also had INT return and fumble recovery. Our other RB/WB had 17 for 124 . 58 carries for 370 and 30 first downs. Just didn't get to end zone as much as those stats should of. So it goes. Pleased defensively statistically holding NK to 3-14 passing for 52 yards, but #20 ran a fantastic post corner for a TD, watching it on film last night with our kids, cannot fault our corner too much on that, it was a really tough route to defend and QB put it where he can get it. Tip cap there. I thought NK QB did some nice things to scramble out of trouble, finding one of his recievers who made 1st guy, 2nd guy and 3rd guy all miss for their 1st TD. He did great job running QB Powers as well. We had him for about 116 yards on the ground. Good day for him running for sure. I liked #75 on film and in person, physical kid who gets after it on both sides of the ball. We ran 69 plays to NK 43 plays, another trademark of our team. Last week vs West Lafayette we ran 75 plays to their 46. Best wishes to the Warriors. Cheers

Thanks for sharing. Gotta love hearing stories like that. Amid all the gloom and doom during covid season, persevering efforts and success stories are much needed.

Yes, I did. It was a relatively short drive and the event only lasted an hour or so.

Okay. Just wondered. I met Coach Nowlin at the Linton/LCC state title game in 2015. We sat together at the game. He's such a great individual. We talked about football (of course) and many other things. He had no dog in the fight but still drove down to Lucas Oil to meet up and get acquainted. I had just finished a TON of chemo a few weeks before the state title game. Even though Linton lost the game it was still great meeting and talking with Coach.

That. Sucks. We are completely at the whims of health departments right now. We’re still better off than our friends in Illinois but things are getting crazy in SW Indiana.

I see a lot of rainwater signs in pulaski county. I'm hoping he takes enough votes away from Holcomb and Myers slides in. Holcomb didn't win by a huge margin last time.

JV, Frosh and middle school trends would tell more than a one season snapshot.

Kinda figured it would have to do with the Hoosier and your schedule. I think it would make for an epic series between the Bombers and the Miners. Even if they did it for only 2 or 4 years, it would be some great games. It's just my opinion, but I think both prgrams are similar. Oh well.

I didn't say it was impossible to be successful....the level of impact can vary program to program. It might effect you (bad luck) it might effect your opponents (good luck). It is just a bad year to accurately address trajectory given the differing impacts of this crazy season.

There could also be some Covid impacts. This isn't a good year to judge the trajectory of any program.

People who know me know that I have posted in the past: HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, THE GREATEST GAME ON THE PLANET!!! This story is just one more reason that I have made that statement. For something like this to occur (and especially at the last minute) warms my old heart. To see not two, but three schools come together and allow these student athletes to play the game they love is well, just heart warming. Considering how many teams have not gotten to play this year, I'm genuinely happy for those who can. It goes beyond "kudos" for making something like this happen. As a fan, I give my humble thanks to the 3 programs that provided this opportunity for these young athletes and their fans. And as a fan of football, I now have 2 more teams to follow (I already followed North Knox since they are on Linton's schedule). No comment about a Linton/Rensy Central series?

Absolutely !! Loved it. Good luck this week Warriors Correct KT we debut it 2014 special group that was, you can you tube some games of that year I think, for sure the state game.

Not 3 times, at least not for Heights. Heights played West Lafayette twice in 2015 and 2019, and North Montgomery twice in 2018, but I don't recall ever playing a team 3 times in one season.

This is a great story! Glad that both teams were able to make this work. I still feel bad for the kids on the LCC team as they already had a delayed start to their season. It has to be extremely rough for them! Every game is a blessing!

If LCC had been in quarantine for West Lafayette, they could've end up undefeated in the West ... by default. 😀

Long time listener, first time caller..... We have a tale as old as time here southern indiana folks, NEVER JUDGE A GAME BY THE FINAL SCORE! Some real life insight from this traveling tenderloin, connoisseur: Since my beloved boilers a still weeks away from playing these Saturday high school games have been just the excuse I needed to indulge my tenderloin habit. Let me tell you something I hit gold Saturday at Hilltop Restaurant in Covington, Indiana. What a fried loin! Hand pounded and lightly bread, big enough to hang over the bun but not so comically big that you never get to the bun.... pickles, onion and mustard..... the things dreams are made of but i digress onto the game The Bombers PHYSICALLY DOMINATED North Knox in this one, especially on offense. It was Penalties that kept the game close (including 40 or so yards on one of the Warriors scoring drives), not play. To the credit of north knox they played very hard and seemed to be a very well coached team. As stated the QB had a nice game RUNNING, did a nice job when the pocket broke down eluding the rush and getting in the open field. He only completed 3 passes. Sure two of which happened to be touchdowns but of those two touchdowns one was a jump ball that his reciever (#20 i believe, also had a big kick return, nice athlete for them. Sorry names elude me no programs available to me) made a nice play on but from my vantage point could have just as easily been intercepted. the other was a hitch on fourth and long that would have been short of first down yardage had it not been for some suspect open field tackling/nice moves by the receiver on the play. Offensively the Bomber Offensive line had a field day (i'm a fan of O Line play) big holes all day. #32 and #34 for RC are a nice thunder and lightning combo for Rensselaer's inside run game. i left the game with the impression that i had just watched a 42-7 or 49-14 thrashing. i think the stat lines back up that assessment too. but that tenderloin though......

Anyone have an idea how the teams in the Hoosier Conference will do their Week 9 crossover with the screwed up schedules from Covid?

I heard it was a mix of frosh & JV for Reitz, but either way, that's a nice W. I too have heard the Reitz frosh class is very good.

No, I hope I'm wrong and Linton wins sectional 40. LOL But that would be a homer calling it and I won't do that. Linton is a very young team this year. They still sometimes play with the tendencies of youth. They are still a good team but not good enough that I would say they could beat all of the other teams in 40. Mater Dei doesn't play ANY 1A or 2A teams on their schedule. Playing in the SIAC they are the smallest team in that conference. They play two 5A, two 3A and five 4A teams. And keep in mind some of those teams are usually ranked in their classes every year. This year they have lost 6 - 3 to 5A Castle but just beat 5A North by two scores. And it was AT North. Tell City has played two 3A schools and beat Heritage Hills 32 - 0 but this is probably the worst team that HH has had since 2013. I believe they lost a lot to graduation since they were 14 - 1 last year and played at state. Tell City just lost to Southridge 14 - 12. So I based picking Mater Dei over Tell City on those facts and not what MD has done historically. Had Tell City won against Southridge, I might call it a bit different. At any rate, I'm hoping for a few good draws in the sectional so we get some good games. After reading this, you'd think I was a Mater Dei fan. Trust me, I'm far from it. Just giving props to those with good teams and good programs. I get that a team can have a good game on any given night, but so far on current resumes, I'd have to say Mater Dei is still top dog in 40. And don't forget, this isn't Coach Goebel's first rodeo either. Best of luck and good health to all teams in sectional 40!

Let's put it a clearer . . . LaVille was far better prepared. Knox undsiciplined team and not ready for LaVille's style of offense Several times, LaVille simply beat the Knox defense because they were not in position. I say that after watching the game film. Snaps left, right, and over the head of their quarterback. More yapping going on instead of helping each other out and making adjustments. LaVille has had its share of injuries, as well. LaVille also had a couple players injured during the game. Let's give credit where credit is due. LaVille flat outplayed Knox on this night. Both teams had to deal with injuries. Knox had at least double the players that LaVille had available and still won by what, three touchdowns. Kudos to the LaVille coaches and players for a job well done. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

It's too bad that these type of candidates have very unlikely chance of winning. More so on national stage than a state level, just not a fan of the choices for President and not a lover of Holcomb. I may have to go Woody or Rainwater,

Have to disagree. Mater Dei has played a much tougher schedule than Tell City. Don't be fooled by Mater Dei's record. They just beat the undefeated and top 5 ranked 5A Evansville North team while Tell City lost to the 3rd ranked 3A team. Most of Mater Dei's losses have been close and to much bigger schools (and some ranked). Regardless of what some people may think, Mater Dei is still the team to beat in sectional 40 with all of the other teams looking up (including Tell City). I will say, IF a team beats Mater Dei, then they should win the sectional whoever that would be. But I don't see Mater Dei losing in the sectional this year.

Line may be better this year, but if Purdue doesn't establish a running game early and often teams are gonna sit in a zone and/or blitz the hell out of whoever is playing QB which is another unknown for the Boilers. As electric as Rondale is, Pudue's lost more games than he's won whenever he's been in the lineup.

I never talked about the grid...but, i did talk to a bunch of their coaches and fans(So, I may have)..really great people. They are a fun hard nosed team to play against...it definitely benefitted us to play them.

The smear is already starting, she's a cult member who believes in corporal punishment, a religious fanatic and needs to have her biological and adopted kids taken away, (IMHO) the left will mobilize an attack on her we haven't seen the likes of yet.....
