This is such bs. Man up and play the team in front of you. If you’re not competitive, get better. If a coach isn’t getting the job done, hold him accountable. Winning a state championship isn’t in the cards for some teams and it isn’t supposed to be, that’s what makes it special. Regardless if you are a public or private school you still have to put in the 17 weeks of work to get there and not have a bad week or half that gets you booted.

The players I listed did not leave because of any “scandals.” Schott and Lezon’s fathers work at Southport. The Montefalcos have long been a Cathedral family. Fryar’s father coached at Beech Grove. Sparks’ family moved north. Not sure what McCahill’s reasoning was but know his dad was a great athlete at Scecina, so maybe has some ties from the east side. These are facts, not opinions. So “evaluate” all you want. Scott Marsh was a fantastic coach as is John Rodenberg. In Marsh’s first year, Roncalli was ranked #1 in 5A and only dropped close losses to Decatur Central and Cathedral. He then helped a really young roster mature and improve over the next two years, and Rodenberg has done a fantastic job keeping that positive momentum going. For the record, no one at Roncalli holds ill feelings towards any of these kids. No kid should ever be judged for choosing where they want to go to school. Proud of the success they’ve all had!

Actually, what you want to see and when you want to see it are the difference. You want to see everything RIGHT NOW and don't seem to be willing to wait out SF to work itself out. Realistically, if Roncalli really is a TRUE 6A school, it will get there eventually via SF provided that IHSAA doesn't get too cute and put them in the same sectional with someone like Cathedral where it has to be either/or. In the same way, if Cathedral really was a true 6A school, and at best they are a lower-rung 6A, SF would keep them up in 6A. Similarly, should Chatard get to 4A, assuming the IHSAA doesn't do, what our good friend @Impartial_Observer refers to as "stepping on their d*cks," and keeps them out of the same sectional with Roncalli, there will be ample opportunity for them to stay in 4A. If Chatard really is a 4A or 5A school, then it's just a matter of time before 1) SF gets them there and 2) SF keeps them there ... again, assuming someone not getting "cute" with sectional assignments. This also goes to the problem, as I pointed out before, about a multiplier vs. SF. SF moves based on performance and performance takes time. Multiplier is done right now, but doesn't really achieve competitiveness, it only punishes or cripples. So the questions really are, do you REALLY want competitiveness? Do you REALLY want revenge/crippling? And if it's the former, then why would you not be willing to see competitiveness shake out?

I'm going to call BS! First of all, you are completely crazy if you think that LCC "throws games" to go back to 1A. Secondly, you are talking from a position of not knowing at all, but again, it's all about perception, not reality. In the years that LCC was in 2A, there was a different SF model where a school needed at least 3-4 points to stay up in 2A ... that has been reduced to 2 points now ... AFTER LCC was in 1A. In the two years that LCC was in 2A, to again refute the insane idea that they threw games, LCC lost in a sectional game to eventual state runner up Tipton 28-24 and was about 25 seconds from taking that game which was the second sectional game. In the following year, LCC lost to eventual 2A state champion RCHS 17-14 in semi-state. You really believe that LCC would "throw" a 2A semi-state game with a chance to go play a 2A state title game that they likely would have won? Also, by that type of statement, you also diminish the efforts of fellow HC competitors Tipton and RCHS who fought hard for their games that year and I think would set you very straight about whether or not they thought LCC was "phoning it it" or "dogging it" to get back to 1A. I'd suggest, if you want a direct accounting on this, you check in with @Coach Nowlin who was with that championship RCHS team on the sidelines. I'm pretty sure he'll shoot straight with you about whether or LCC was dogging it.

I coach at 2a Pioneer. 1a enrollment school bumped up to 2a from success factor. I am well aware of the struggles that come with playing/ coaching at a small school. You will hear no one from our staff complain about our position in 2a. We played “above our weight” winning a sectional and beating a very good Andrean team. We just ran out of bodies and gas against a very good Luers team. Saying that coaching and development only matters at large schools is an ignorant statement.

Water is wet Mooreseville was massive as well. I reckon they’ll show up anyway.

It’s not so much that CC gets kids from Ben Davis(I’m sure they get a few). They get lots of kids from Avon and Brownsburg even a few from Plainfield. The location is ideal for loading up a football team.

But how much of this amounts to a self inflicted wound? It is one thing to have unequal resources. It is quite another to have the resources, but make the choice to employ them elsewhere, and not go “all in.” There are a number of PPs that don’t excel in football, simply because they apply resources elsewhere. If you really want to level the playing field in a multi-class format by, to the greatest extent possible, matching “like” against “like,” then you should find a way to adjust the classes of those schools that choose to apply their resources to go all in. You know, like a “success factor,” or something like that. And to make it fair and complete, you should do the same for those public schools that have shown their willingness to go “all in” as well. Hey, wait a minute ...

That reminds me of some of the concession stands I've visited in my many years.😄

Did we strike a nerve? As vic said above everyone would still leave the stadium its just that the people in the 2nd level would get a discount for not being closer to the action. This would allow all the fans for the teams to have the better seats down low and a fan such as myself would have to watch from a further away seat. I dont see the harm in this idea. You can also still assign seats for those sitting in the upper bowl that way they can't try and sneak down and take seats that are reserved for the fans of the teams playing.

What are you going to do, chain them to their seats between games while disinfecting is going on? Before you try to think of an answer just stop. This is the year of the pandemic. Play by the rules or don’t attend.

Yeah. First meeting. Hobart may be underdogs, but they have the kids to give them beyond a punchers chance. I remember counting out a Lowell team against Roncalli. Roncalli is no longer 38 toss play after play but hey I’ve seen crazy things down there. Pretty cool to see 2 Blue bloods of Indiana football down there going at it. Hobart is starting to stack classes a bit. They are gonna be contending for a while I believe.

Yeah well recruiting from the vast Greene County is still never gonna match up with recruiting metro areas such as Indy, Ft. Wayne, Evansville etc....

I think this paragraph from Indy Star Kyle Neddenriep details what most of the state things about the PP success this year. Would believe that Mr. Neddenriep reaches thousands more that DT with his view. Is it a “problem” if five private schools win state titles? I don’t sense that. The Indiana High School Athletic Association’s tournament success factor is designed to address some of those dynasty issues. Chatard will move up to 4A for the next two-year cycle. Cathedral has not won a state title since 2014 and Roncalli since 2016. Since the IHSAA added a sixth class in 2013, private schools have won 15 of a possible 42 titles. Private schools have filled 22 of a potential 84 spots in the state finals (not counting this season). We did not hear much about the private school dominance when only one private school won in 2017 and again in ’18. There were only two private schools in the state finals each of those years. Since 2013, we have not seen more than three private schools win titles in a given year. There were three in 2013, ’15, ’16 and ’19.

my question is... did the Pioneer OL who left the game when the Panthers were dominating..also a starter on D? What changed to see Luers suddenly put up so many points... and what changes the Luers make d-wise to suddenly stop that offense? Pioneer is really a 1A school..as we all know... it's tough to lose a 2-way starter.. not to mention already being short a big player on both sides of the ball. My Congrats to what they have accomplished!

I'd suspect that WeBo might be a little deeper too. A big thing that hurt pioneer was their player that went down who, I believe, was also the punter and maybe even the kicker. Losing a punter and a placekicker, in addition to a starting lineman, is tough for a small school to pivot on; especially if it's 1A playing in 2A.

The Cardiac Cougars of Van Wert pull it off! Down 2 scores they come back and win 31-28 for their first state title ever! One more game for this area to get 3 OH state champs! Hoping we add 2 more next weekend on the IN side!

I’ve been all over this great state of ours: I know things. That being said, I’ve always been an aviation buff, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Adams Central Flying Jets. But why is Flying mentioned, isn’t that what they’re supposed to do?

I agree there should be no 1A private schools. The biggest problem I’ve had is these private schools (LCC) will win a couple state titles in a row move up to 2A then tank a couple of seasons back down to 1A , so your telling me LCC couldn’t win 2 sectionals in 2A to stay in 2A ? And then their right back winning state championships !!! Look at Indianapolis Lutheran in Softball they do the same think win a couple state championships up to 2A and then 3 years later back down in 1A their back in the state championship game again !!! They have done it many times !!! Look what happened to Pioneer they did win enough to stay in 2A but up against FWBL couple of kids got hurt then couldn’t compete as well 30 kids on the side line compared to 70 you don’t have the numbers. LCC at one time played separate offense team and defense most 1A schools kids play both ways the entire game ! Ok done with my rant against private schools in 1A

A couple of differences that I can see, from an LOS perspective, and I'm spitballing here because I don't know their cost of operations, is what kind of resources they need to clean each level and the offset ticket pricing. I would agree that, in normal circumstances, they've already figured out the breakeven point or, potentially, the loss-point for the event. Under normal circumstances, I'd agree that 12,500 for a Colts game should translate to a similar 12,500 for IHSAA games(s). With that said, let's assume that they need three crews to clean three levels. I might be able to spread 12,500 comfortably across three levels, but I might also be able to handle 6,000 comfortably on one level. By making the restriction to 6,000 I get to drop two cleaning crews and their corresponding costs/logistics ... it also makes it easier to do crowd control for clearing LOS between games. The other difference is probably based in the pricing of the tickets ... although the "everyone out, pay again to come back in" might help that out a bit but not much. I have to imagine that top ticket price of $15, or $30 for two tickets vs. the Colts, see below for ticket prices for today's Colts game with a caveat that these are resales, leaves A LOT of room that has to be made up and my guess is that, with a 12,500 capacity for attendance, it makes it really hard to make it up on concessions. As such, cutting out the upper two levels or one level helps drop what the Colts eat on the event. That would be the main reasons why I could see the numbers dropping down below what the Colts allow on professional game day. Like I said, I'm not in the heads of the Colts, so I don't know how much they are willing to eat on an event like this, so I'm mainly speculating here.

How about just being a 1A in a metro area? Sure, schools don’t actively recruit, but now CC has the Indy area to get potential players from, while the Adams county schools have to pluck kids from a cornfield.

I suspect the answer to this is one word: liability.

The “SAC’s best” struggled with the bottom of the HCC in 2019 and was beaten by the HCC two consecutive postseasons now. It’s a trend. The gap from the HCC to the SAC may actually be bigger than the gap from the MIC to the HCC.

In the words of Dennis Green ‘They are who we thought they were.’ I was pulling for both SIAC schools but not completely surprised with the outcomes.

Not a big fan of Eastbrook’s schedule. I would love to see the starters playing some full four quarter games prior to the tournament. The team is healthy, but a full game or two would be nice to play before the tournament. JMO. I think this years team is much better than last years team! Better at QB, WR, and the defense is very good.
