It probably doesn’t. But if you’ve been on here long enough you should remember when LCC was whoopin everyone’s ass you didn’t hear how good they were just that they recruited and it wasn’t fair. 2nd and foremost most of the ones saying it were from Tiptons. I swear to God they were!

Lots of judgement involved in this play and a fuzzy video from a bad angle. I can't tell exactly where the ball is snapped but based on the near wide out I'm going to say it's probably about the B9. The first thing to look at is the contact between the slot receiver and DB. The first question is that contact is in the neutral zone or close? If it it's in the neutral zone it's legal regardless of who initiated contact. If it's beyond and you determine the defense initiated it, then there is no foul. But in this situations the receivers are always suspect because the receiver is trying to create separation however subtly. And especially in this case it's obvious that's what he would want to do because they throw to the back who receives the pass in the area this defender may have covered. The ball appears to be caught near the B8 which is about a yard beyond the assumed LOS. Only the LJ is going to be able to rule on that. Since the B threw a flag I assume he felt the receiver initiated the contact downfield and the pass was caught beyond the LOS. He would need help from the LJ who should provide information on the location of the block (if he saw it) and definitely on the location of the pass in regards to the LOS. This is where the other part of your comment becomes relevant. The fact he came on to the field and was not on the goal line when the runner got close to hit hurts his credibility. It's very likely he didn't notice where the pass was caught and where the block took place. OPI is definitely a supportable call based on the information provided, but as I said there are several combinations of judgement here. Ultimately that is what the officials are paid to do and they applied that judgement here. It's not an absolutely right or wrong call. He has to make the best call based on what he sees and the information provided by others.

Former All State HS Center from Bishop Chatard Danny Godlevske is making a big impact for the 5-0 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Danny, a former player and graduate of the Miami of Ohio Redhawks is using his final year of eligibility for OK State. He immediately was moved into the starting center position on the OL and is playing really well. His experience is really helping out the O line and the Cowboy rushing attack. OSU is off this Saturday and next week play at Texas for a big conference game. The Cowboys have knocked off Kansas State and Baylor in consecutive weeks. I guess it's situational. Let's look at a few hypothetical situations: Let's say the SAC splits into Big School/Small School divisions based on enrollment (I personally would rather see an East/West split but I think this is more likely). The divisions would be as follows: Big Schools Small Schools Homestead Bishop Luers Carroll Concordia Northrop Bishop Dwenger Snider South Side Wayne North Side Each team would play all others in their division, as well as two cross division games, and saving Week 9 for Championship Week. That covers 7 weeks of play, leaving 2 weeks open for out of conference play. Lets say, hypothetically, that Snider constructs a schedule that follows as such: Homestead Northrop Bishop Dwenger Wayne Carroll *Open Week* Penn North Side *Championship Week* Now Snider has an open week between two tough opponents. The optimal thing to do here would be to look for a lower caliber team (albeit one that still provides a enough of a challenge to give the kids coaching and growth opportunities) in the Northeast region to fill that gap and let the starters rest up between two hard games. However, if there are no teams that fit the bill for that week, I personally think it would be better for the Panthers to take a bye-week rather than fill that slot with a team of higher caliber, which would only increase the chance of injury and wear them down going into a trap game against the Legends, potentially spoiling their Week 9 dreams. This bye-week, paired with their game against the Kingsmen and the first round sectionals bye-week, sets up the Panthers for a great post season run. Now let's look look at a situation to your point where Snider could suffer from this type of scheduling: Carroll Homestead South Side Wayne *Open Week* Concordia *Open Week* Northrop *Championship Week* Snider has their two biggest divisional opponents in weeks 1 and 2. After that they are really struggling to find anyone to fill the gaps between a 6 week stretch of easy games. No one from the MIC, HCC, or just in the North has an open week that lines up with Snider's schedule. All they can find are low caliber teams, or teams from deep into Southern Indiana, and Ohio and Michigan (which pose their own logistical challenges). Snider is left scrambling and may be left potentially empty handed, playing a 6 week schedule that gives them absolutely nothing to challenge them, setting them up for failure for the SAC crown and the playoffs. So to answer your question, it depends. If the second situation comes up often enough (more than once every 10 years), then it's not worth it. But I think it is more likely that the first situation will be what we would see. And, as I stated above, I personally think missing a game in that situation wouldn't actually be any different from filling that week with a team like New Haven.

I said the same thing last year. Still, the instinct to knock a perennial Catholic power out in a Sectional is just too strong to resist for the IHSAA versus taking the long view. It wouldn’t (or won’t) be any different if Roncalli and Cathedral were in the same class….in fact we saw it just a few years ago. Roncalli and Cathedral were paired in Sectional and New Pal (who is literally next door to Roncalli) was sent North.

Maybe an extra week or 2 and advancing in the tournament may not mean much to you guys - but it might to the senior that doesn't want to hang up his pads and have to watch a 2-7 team advance. It also gives a little meaning to a good regular season. Every single wrestling coach is shaking his head and laughing that we can't get this accomplished.

I don't disagree with the concept of seeding, but the AP poll is always somewhat questionable and Sagarin / SOS is really no longer as reliable as it once was bc 2 of the top conferences in the state (SAC and SIAC) are closed, which screws the numbers up significantly. So 2A south has been dominate... despite the yearly chant of how good the north is.... seems to me if u throw out Luers.... 2A is pretty much a free 4 all statewide..... i agree w foxy that Lcc will b favored in sec 37 this yr ..... but r not goin to State this yr.... as they only go to State in yrs they win it.... 😆

It occurs to me that we have an awful lot of smart athletic directors in this state. If changing the system by seeding were likely to result in significantly increased revenue, in these times of tight budgets somebody would be out there beating the drum for it. I don’t get that sense. I’m not saying there aren’t changes to be made that would be revenue positive. Just saying it’s apparently not “obvious” to a lot of people who should be paying attention to it.

Ehhh... not so sure... 1A in enrollment makes it tuff to reload yr after yr... prob hav to recruit better for that to happen.... but every now n then.... gotta say it was pretty cool cing 2 1A kids on the field at the PU ND game.....

Most crews get a first round game. These are usually announced the Friday of week 9. For following rounds they are usually related on the Monday or Tuesday before the game. No system is perfect and the Indiana system is far from perfect. There has been a change this year on the coach vote portion that could have an impact on many crews, but that will remain to be seen. Gone are the situations where some crews get 100+ votes and others get 20-30. As for the system being the reason officials are leaving, you realize there are only so many spots each week. No matter what system is used the same number of crews advance each week. Those who don't advance will be angry because they feel slighted. There is no system that would make everyone happy. That doesn't mean we shouldn't work through ISHOLA to get improvements to the system. But using the system as a reason for the change is not where we should focus.

I just hope that administrators and IHSAA officials around the state are following this topic so they understand how much revenue they are costing their athletic departments.

If you are competing for sectional or regional champs in back to back years of a class you doing well in that class. Some of that has to do with the quality of teams in your sectional though. Not all sectionals are created equally.

Interesting. Two questions though: 1. Would you leave for greener pastures IF he turned Purdue into a consistant 8-9 team win? 2: Would he leave a cush NFL gig to coach at a perennial Big 10 bottom feeder?

My “assumption” is that classes will adjust next year based on enrollment. “Success Factored” schools will remain bumped until the two year cycle has run its course (which was scheduled to be Fall ‘22/Spring’23). Two years from now (Fall ‘23), another adjustment will be made based on BOTH the actual enrollments AND the Success Factor. Admittedly, the reading of the IHSAA dictum has left me confused but I’m assuming this is what will happen….add that it seems the most sensible approach. With that, we really should be on a rolling 2 year cycle as regards SF in my opinion (which really has nothing to do with my thoughts above).

If I was Pioneer I'd want to bump back to 1A also 😉

Usually the week after the tournament ends.

Mostly because the #1 or #2 team is done after week 1, but the 0-9 team who got a favorable draw gets to play another week. It's one thing if it happens on the field due to an upset. It's another if a 2 or 3 win team makes it to the sectional final because their side of the bracket had all 2 or 3 win teams. For very selfish reasons it's disappointing to get assigned to a sectional final game with a 9-2 team traveling to a 2-9 team. It's likely no fans will be there and you'll have a running clock in the second half. Where else besides Indiana high school sports are teams randomly assigned to opponent and location in a post-season tournament? Explain this to someone not from Indiana and they will think you are crazy and making it up. It's not logical. But it is what it is, and I'll be happy to get any tournament assignment I can get.

Same here. The thing I hate the most about being Success Factored into 4A is that our Sectional is pretty much just SIAC V.2, with the potential added bonus of a 2.5 hr. road trip to Brazil to play Northview. I always loved the change of scenery the post-season brought in 3A.

South Side at Bishop Luers Knights roll, and are rooting for the Saints. Final Score: South Side 10 - 56 Bishop Luers Northrop at North Side I know I said the Legends were better than their record last week. I know I said rivalry games play tough. But I really expected the Legends to play better. I think the Bruins have the better defense, but Chambers is a really tough environment. Final Score: Northrop 21 - 24 North Side Carroll at Concordia Not sure who has an easier matchup this week, the Chargers or the Knights. Neon Nation rolls. Final Score: Carroll 49 - 3 Concordia Wayne at Homestead The Spartans come back home for this game pissed after last week. I see them coasting to a win, but something in my gut tells me the Generals could make this competitive. Maybe that's just the frozen pizza I had for lunch. Final Score: Wayne 13 - 42 Homestead Bishop Dwenger at Snider The only people more ticked off than the Spartans this week are the Saints. But while Sparty lost on the road, the Saints lost at home... AND have to travel to another bitter rival this week. The Saints would like nothing more than to play spoil to the Panthers and what little SAC title hopes they have left. As much as it pains me to say, I think they're capable of doing it. If you miss this game, you're going to miss another classic. Final Score: Bishop Dwenger 30 - 28 Snider

Seed one and two. Draw the rest. It's the best of both worlds. We set the stage for a great championship game, and we allow the worst teams a chance to draw an opponent they can compete with in round one. And if we can seed a 12 person wrestling weight class then surely we can figure out how to identify the two best in an 8 team sectional.
