Perhaps a moderator could excise the officials’ name from that first post. You are correct that this is not something an official can take upon himself, and impose on the teams without their agreement. The proper recourse is to report this to Asst. Commissioner Faulkens at the IHSAA, as opposed to calling out the official by name on a public forum.

Wayne is getting turf AFTER this season. The new Superintendent is also fast tracking turf for North and South...so that issue will be eliminated as it pertains to FWCS. There are all sorts of "rumors" as to why/who offered to fund turf for Luers. No need to get into that...but as of now, they don't have turf. But I assure you that prominent former players did offer to fund a turf field. It just didn't/hasn't happened.

Game played at Boonville tonight. With GS up 19-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, the ref continued not to stop the clock after 1st downs. Starting in the 2nd quarter he signaled the clock to run through change of possessions. After a series in the 2nd quarter, he ran it on penalties and then on incompletions. GS scored at the end of the 2nd quarter to make it 34-0 at half. The second half he treated it as the mercy rule and ran it the clock through out of bounds and incompletions. He even yelled "Really" at the GS crowd for complaining. Boonville's clock operator told GS's video guy that this ref does this at every game he does at Boonville. These kids rode a bus 40 minutes and only get to play 6 games this season due to CoVid. Let them play full games the way the rules are intended. If this ref doesn't want to be out there then he should quit. This isn't making either team better. should not be an IHSAA licensed referee.

I think Hamilton Southeastern has a better chance of beating Westfield in the tournament than Merrillville does.

I had no idea that the surrounding neighborhoods wouldn’t sign off on the rebuild. Wow. All I know is is that Snider should have it’s own stadium. I was just talking to a buddy about how Spuller Stadium doesn’t look right with that giant Bruin at midfield.

Again, as I said earlier. the NEIGHBORHOOD will not allow a full on Stadium to be put in place at the Bowser Field location. That's fine, let's just begin construction on the turf field then. It only makes business sense. Snider's JV and Freshmen games are more likely to pay it off quicker than South Side or Wayne's Varsity games. Heck, the extended residents weren't in favor of the Layhmeyer Road facility either. And how'd that work out for those residents? Never mind, let's not go down that path. When they seem to be content with the current situation on Friday nights sharing a facility with Northrop? You're right, su casa mi casa.

I am not sure if this is still the case but the pay for coaches was similar for each school. Like many schools it takes the right coach in the right place at the right time. Niles and Berrien Springs are proving that right now. Kids want to play for a winner but that is not the only reason they pick a school You hear other rumors etc. but none of those is for this discussion.

Even the poor South Bend Schools had a turf field (School Field) privately funded/.

I believe LCC was #95 before Tipton beat them. Granted that is a far cry from the competition Luers plays. I think it would be an uphill battle for either Eastbrook or Tipton(or Eastside for that matter) but that’s why you play the game!

I think you hit it on the head. I had an assistant coach tell me about 3 years that the program was in disarray and they were making progress. Well the last 3 years have been anything but successful and the fact this year after week 3 they have not scored more than 7 points what does that tell you.

Snider and Cathedral have no varsity facilities, so your comment isn't entirely accurate.

I never said anything about free loading. My suggestion was that if you want to run around here and pretend like you run the site and tell people to take their conversation elsewhere, perhaps you should at least contribute $30 a year to support the site. If you can't afford it, that's fine. Not everyone can. I'd just be a little less militant about telling others what to talk about.

Interesting to hear. I recognize that CYO numbers are down in Indy as well but I don’t think they ever lost the core of kids who would end up being starters. One would think that, living in the shadows of Norte Dame, there would always be a core group of Catholic kids and families that couldn’t wait to play football every Fall. Clearly Marian has been dominant recently. Is the influence of Norte Dame that shallow in South Bend?

St. Joe's issue is far different. Their feeder, the ICCL, has been struggling. There was no football in 2020. They are struggling to have 4 teams every season. The better teams also feed into Marian.

Clearly South Bend has problems and no doubt politics likely plays a big part in it, but even a program that was pretty legit just 8-10 years ago like SB St. Joe has fallen off the edge the Earth in recent years. Curious, so aside from a political failure in the city, there would appear to be other major factors at play - at least in the case of St. Joe….or are their woes stemming from something altogether different? To a point, one might think they would directly benefit from the woes of their local public schools in terms of public school kids moving over but there is no evidence of that happening - at least on the gridiron so far. BTW, thanks for indirectly reminding me that I need to ante up again as well. Just keep forgetting.

2 wins on Dwengers turf in a year is better than one. I tease, Luers field got pretty tore up after the snider game. A lot of rain the day before the game. Thanks to Dwenger for allowing use this Friday good luck to the saints in tournament play.

Agree that it’s a shame this game is taking place now and it exposes the gaping flaw in our current system, in my opinion. I have to admit that there have been a couple of early West Lafayette losses in Sectional that absolutely left me scratching my head. Last year’s loss to a very modest Guerin team being perhaps the most puzzling.

Believe me, I'm not afraid of anything political! This just isn't the place to have that kind of discussion. If you can't stick to just discussing football, then move on.

I don’t think my feeling’s have changed much about Chatard all year. Over the first four games, they played the most difficult schedule in the State of Indiana up to that point - Brebeuf, Warren Central, Roncalli and Cathedral. That was supported by BOTH Sagarin and CalPreps. Other than the Cathedral game, they were very competitive in the other games (they even lead a good part of the Warren game). In retrospect, I think they should have won the Brebeuf game but 4-5 turnovers against a great team is almost always terminal. I think they win that game today. I was never disappointed in this team’s record knowing just what they had been through those first four games. The fact is, after the Warren and Roncalli games, I was really impressed with them. Most teams their size would have huddled in a fetal position and taken the expected beat down. These kid’s didn’t. They gave back as good as they got. This is a solid Chatard team and as good as the majority of their prior State Champion teams…but, admittedly, not quite up to the mark of, arguably, two of the better Chatard teams ever that we witnessed the last couple of years. I stand behind my observation some weeks back when they were 0-4 and I asked that, other than Roncalli, what other 4A team in Indiana could have survived those first four games let alone have been competitive in three of them? I didn’t think there was another 4A team then (other than Roncalli) and my opinion hasn’t changed since. In fact, I think that Chatard has likely improved comparatively more than any of those teams they played in their early losses. I still believe Roncalli is at another level vs. the rest of 4A this year - but I also think that Chatard is the second best team in 4A this year and has an outside shot at them. God knows, no one else in 4A has fought the wars these kids did early on and they’ve earned a ton of respect from me in watching them (not that they needed it).

The people of South Bend voted for Pete Buttigeig to be their mayor. That tells you all that you need to know.

Don’t blame them for not moving it to CG but plenty other neutral sites were available. Indiana had an opportunity to showcase two of the nation’s best on a national scale last night and the mud is the main storyline the next day. That’s a failure. It’s 2021…that game looked like a game from the 70s being played on a slip and slide.

I’ll stand by my claim. Just because it was equally pitiful for both teams doesn’t mean it was the right decision to play this game at Arlington Middle School. I don’t care what Cathedral deems it’s home field. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out when the 10 day forecast showed the amount of rain Indy was going to receive that this was going to happen. Game could have easily been moved but I have a sneaky suspicion one team didn’t want it to be for obvious competitive reasons. I’m all for what some folks above consider “old school football” but that was pathetic last night.

Congrats to the North Freshmen! 7-0 SIAC Champs. Played the entire season without their best lineman, he has been a varsity starter since week 2. They also endured several injuries, including a concussion to their top RB who suffered a concussion towards the end our week 5 varsity game. Last night he returned against Central and had 2 carries for 124 yards and 2 TDs! This is a GREAT class, and has won their last 23 games.

That 2012-2015 stretch…man was that a gut checker for the GS fans. I still remember that HH game in 2014 too. run the spread all year and no bone. People complaining about not sticking to traditions then pulled out the bone after leading 14-13 at the half and milked the clock dry…like of course you still had the bone playbook installed, how could you guys not HH/GS have some great games the last 10 years in sectional 32 Edit: I believe 2014 is when that Crews kid was playing for HH….man was he special.
