The entire school is recruited, all 1062 of 'em. That's how a private school fills their classrooms. It was that way in the early 1960's when I was recruited to Cathedral.

In football though we were bottom dwellers in the NLC until Tom Wogomon took over in 13. In 14 we won our first sectional and regional football titles in school history. Coach Wog retired after last season, after the school built a brand new athletics facility including all Turf football, baseball, and softball fields. Coach Eppley was promoted this season at 26 years old, went 5-4 in the regular season after countless injuries. We had a running clock against us in our last 2 regular season games, but figured things out and made adjustments in a 50ish point swing against NorthWood in the sectional opener compared to the score between the two a few weeks earlier. Took care of business against the only team we were arguably favorites against in the playoffs in Columbia City, then upset Leo, Ole Miss, and New Prairie to make state.

I think it’s like 40 straight wins vs unranked opponents. The Irish and BK have built a program that is much better than any program besides those top 3 or 4 (Alabama, Ohio St, Georgia, Clemson?) in the country. But there’s still a gap between ND and those top teams. Next year they open the season vs Ohio State, we’ll get to see then if they’ve closed that gap.

Ask @BTF how bets go with me on here. (Hint: I don’t lose.) Predicting the demise of the Center Grove machine is such an amateur move. They are winning at all levels right now (varsity, JV and freshman). I believe they lost 1-2 games this season COMBINED. They, not Warren or Ben Davis are now the transfer destination of central Indiana talent. I’d also go in depth regarding the SES component but every time I do, I hurt @Footballking16’s feelings. I made another bold statement on here a while back that I will also stick to. Westfield wins a 6A title before Warren or Ben Davis wins their next one.

I will agree with that statement that most didn't think they had a chance against Roncalli (including myself). The Marauders haven't really been in the dark the last 3 years though. They beat Roncalli in 2019 (Although the Rebels/Royals weren't as good in 2019 as 2021) losing to Ev. Memorial. Last year they lost to Roncalli. I think they have a very good shot this year at winning the 4A State Title. Obviously Northridge is there for a reason. Both teams seem to be on a mission, should make for a fun State Championship game.

So nip and tuck games where a generational team for SR squeaked by typical GS team? The level of consistency in our program has been nothing short of amazing in the Hart era. You can try and try to put some sort of asterisks next to this teams achievements, but guess what, that asterisks will only exist in your head next to your disdain for this program. Your last dozen posts or so have been exclusively aimed at trying to get someone, anyone, to listen to your pathetic agenda, it really is just silly. Like our D1 QB wasn't going to take a step forward his senior year like most kids do? I have no idea where it comes from, perhaps the fact that you wanted desperately to continue to be able to say, that even though this program is 104-20 in the last 10 years including a 50-0 destruction of SR in 2015 or the 55-14 trashing in 2017 when SR won state, that we had never been to a state championship game? How is this year any different than those? Perhaps it some sort of self protection mechanism where you have convinced yourself that somehow three move ins out of the 2,000 in the state of Indiana this year made this season any different than what we normally do to SR? As a friend of mine always says, "same as it ever was". I hope you chose to stay on our schedule and continue to receive your beatdowns, everyone needs goals and yours can continue to be, "beat the Titans". This year the excuse was three move ins. What will it be next year and the year after that and the year after that? This is the 20th anniversary of our youth league and it's fitting to achieve this milestone this year. The only thing super about this team are the families, community and staff behind an amazing bunch of kids (including the move ins who are great people). I won't apologize for our community being an attractive place to live. Perhaps the unique distance from Evansville (not too close but not too far), small town living, many religious options, and quality employment opportunities make it more appealing than chicken processing plants. 15 or more of the first 25 kids to play in GS games this year have at least one parent that is a GS alumni and although I don't have averages for that type of statistics across that state, I'm guessing it would put us in the top 10 percent of 3A schools in terms of lineage. Then again, who cares, all great people are welcome here and frankly I hope they keep coming because again, the only asterisk will exist in your head and our rent will continue to be enjoyable and free.

And they should get praise. What I remember from the Michigan State game was Michigan pulling out in front by two touchdowns on the Spartans home field. Only a pretty good football team does that. Unfortunately, the final score turned into their only blemish on the season. They definitely pass the eye test. Even if they lose to Ohio State, they are still as good of a football team as anyone not named Ohio State and Georgia. Meaning they are playoff worthy regardless of what happens on Saturday.

I laugh every time some idiot on tv says that ND doesn't have a chance. They must have gotten pushed through math class in high school and college without having to do a thing. The odds of ND making the playoffs is better than 50%.

I gave up on IU after after a few weeks and quit following. I was told today that they had 15-20 guys out all year from either covid or injury. Any truth to that? Didn't mean to quote Irishman on this statement. Just adding to the topic.

I guess I could also take a shot at answering OP's question while I'm here: for me, it was Z-ville-Roncalli sectional champ 1993; wasn't cold, no major injuries kept any P1 players out, nothing like that. The Rebels came in dominating; something like 36-6 was their average margin, so they were doing it on both sides of the ball. Mike Bohn was the nation's leading rusher and he was only playing ~60-75% of most games. Things were so one-sided for that Roncalli team, they had never even been trailing in a game, routinely going up 21 points before the other team could muster a score. And, as noted, that frequently was the last score the Rebel opponent achieved. The Star was littered with comments like "Zionsville doesn't play our schedule" and "they're not used to 'inner-city speed'" (whatever that is), so another blowout was clearly in the making. Well, Zionsville scored first on the opening possession. Then Roncalli scored to tie it on their first chance with the ball. Then Zionsville scored again, going up 14-7. This was a little unusual, at least based on how Dave Calabro & Scott Soren (? - the one from ABC-6 affiliate) expected it to go. Unusual enough 13 flew the helicopter back to Zionsville to catch the end of the game, which turned out to be a clean, well-fought contest... that ended regulation tied at 21. (Whichever 13 producer green-lit sending the chopper back that night... good call. 👏) OT1 ended with both teams scoring, so OT2 started 28-28. The Eagles went first, were unsuccessful on 4th down (what's the point in kicking 3 against that line + that back?) and Roncalli pushed in one of their 12-man 28 sweeps (they only had 11 on the field; it just always seemed like they had a +1 on those power plays - ugh), winning 34-28 in a thrilling double OT. Roncalli proceeded to resume their season-long demonstration the following 2 weeks by blowouts and then tidied up business with a close game @ the Dome. (This last game is the only one I've found to watch & if memory serves, Roncalli were off their game somehow... I don't think the state opponent was any stronger than previous schools... rather, it was an issue of Roncalli getting in their own way vs. what had worked the previous 13 weeks; just my 2c & I haven't revisited that state game for several years, so I'm pleased for a correction if anyone feels I'm wrong). Notwithstanding the close final game, I always thought the 3A state championship game was played in Boone County that year. 🤷‍♂️

If Carmel goes back north in the next re-classification they won’t have to beat either one.

Was at Memorial Stadium for the Minnesota game Sat. A good buddy and Gopher grad came down for the game from the Twin Cities. Embarrassing....all around. Very few people in the stands, and after taking a 7-0 lead, Minnesota laid it on them 35-7. Lost for words. Get this season over....will be interesting to see what happens with the program during the off-season. At least it was a nice late November day for a game and tailgating. No issue getting to Btown with the Martinsville detours....because people stayed home.

It is a little bit crazy to see such poor regular season records, only to then kick it into high gear for the playoffs. In my mind, I see Z-ville coaches doing the Jim Mora thing inside the locker room & away from cameras come, oh say, week 8 or 9 [[[every season]].] 😝 I was on the Z-ville team that Coach Mac went up into the booth. There's a few good stories (plus one "bet") related to starting that phenomenon lol. 🤐 One thing I won't be quiet about is his approachability + sound mind, to which you allude. 👍

Lol okay dude. They still have to play teams like Carmel and Brownsburg in regionals to get to semi-state. Not exactly pushovers. I know their sectional is a joke and they have the easiest path to semi-state. Just because they get blown out by one of the best hs teams Indiana has ever had doesn’t mean their program is down the drain. You act like anyone in the world besides the BD poster on here actually thought BD would win lol. Complete ignorance.

I think it is human nature to put forth “good enough” effort rather than consistently giving “the best you’ve got”. When you are crushing your opponent every Friday night what is your motivation to try harder? You can apply that to coaches and players. Scheduling tougher opponents gives you that much needed reminder that you aren’t good enough yet. They get to play a game rather than have a bye.

The real difference with osu is their pass defense. Oregon made them look bad. But now they are getting pressure with just 4, and their coverage is so much better. Stroud has made huge strides as a true freshman as well. God I hate Ohio State lol

While it looks better for the Irish this morning than it did yesterday I’m not so sure this is entirely true. What’ll be interesting is if Bama loses a close one to UGA do they have the balls to drop them out? They wouldn’t go to 4 because of a rematch. Then, does the big 12 champ jump ND (especially if it’s Okie State who has 1 loss) while the Irish are sitting at home? They CAN’T jump Cincinnati if the Bearcats continue to step on the gas like they did yesterday. As to your other point. While I don’t label myself a Notre Dame “hater” I don’t like em. I think Kelly is slightly above average on game days but he’s a great recruiter. They are benefiting right now from the fact that their “rivals” are all in a downward spiral. They were heads and shoulders above every team on their schedule this year in terms of talent.

Ohio State absolutely should be #2 after today. 1. Georgia 2. OSU 3. Bama 4. Cincy 5. Michigan 6. ND

Not much stopping ND at this point but themselves. If they look solid against Stanford, then they are in. As it stands now, the Irish are #6 in the rankings. They'll move ahead of the OSU/Michigan loser. They'll also move ahead of Alabama after Georgia gives them their second loss. Hell, if Houston can pull the upset over Cincinnati, Notre Dame could end up being a 3 seed. Let's face it, Notre Dame is an annual 10 game winner and the recruiting is only getting better. For anyone out their that doesn't like the Irish, you might want to just pass on watching college football in 2022. Next year is looking pretty good..............and the year after, and the year after.

Congrats to GS. Very impressive win. Lots of speed. Obviously 18 is solid, but the WRs were really good as well. #43 is a stud. I think GS wins next weekend.

I think Brady broke another record tonight. Besides becoming the career passing TDs leader, I believe he broke the career completions record. Brady had 735 entering tonight and unofficially has 28 completions to add, making his total 763 completions Career totals + Indiana all time standings 11,520 yards (2nd all time) 675 yards away from 1st 763 completions (1st all time) 144 passing TDs (1st all time)

I think it goes well beyond strength of schedule. You can tell the difference when the MIC or HCC team gets off the bus. You can tell the difference in their pregame warmup. You can tell the difference in the way they conduct themselves on the sideline. You can tell the difference in the way they are prepared for situational football. And you can tell in the way they execute even the small details. For some reason, their football is on a different level than the DAC.

That’s a bunch of high school kids — some of whom just played the last football game they’ll ever play — that you’re referring to as “trash.” It costs nothing to be a gracious winner. Try it sometime.

No predictions for me either. I think both teams are very similar - hard-nosed, disciplined, and athletic - and if a kid who had to be carted off a week ago is considering trying to play, then its pretty obvious your kids love their school and team as much as ours do. Here's hoping for a great game. Safe travels to all the EC fans. Regardless of the outcome, I think the EC fans will enjoy Enlow Field. It is one of a kind.
