  1. Warren Central getting a higher vote total than Lawrence Central is absurd. Do results on the field matter or do they not? I would put Ben Davis at #3 in 6A. Their two losses were to the top two teams by the slimmest of margins. A Brownsburg DB getting his fingertips on the ball on 4th down prevented Ben Davis from catching the game-winning TD.

  2. Andrean, Luers, and Mater Dei will all be bolstered by the schedules they play. I cannot emphasize enough how much playing larger schools pays dividends for these programs come playoff time.

  3. Go Bombers!! We are in our 125th year of football and 11th in most wins in state. Good find on old scores, really awesome to see some old stuff. We had a gentleman bring out a freshman kid this year who wanted to play and just got into town ( few days after school started). He was the Punter on his undefeated RCHS 1954 squad. He then went on to talk about striking the ball with your foot with the air hole on outside for the spiral you looking for, got it from someone at the Bears Training camp ( Camped in Rensselaer from 1944 to 1974)

  4. We back. Let’s stay on topic this time so this thread doesn’t get locked up again please. the last thing I brought up was Vincennes Lincoln is someone to keep an eye on Sectional 30 currently looking Tougher and tougher by the week GS, VL, Mt Vernon, Owen Valley all contending for that sectional

  8. I've had the pleasure of attending a few games this year, and I've gotta tell you. I don't like what I've been seeing. every single punt has been caught with a fair catch, or just not caught at all. This is cowardice. I propose that we implement a simple two step solution to solve this epidemic. 1. No more fair catches 2. Anything after 30 yards is a live ball.

  9. According to Carlin, that could be made more exciting by letting guys take the bat with them around the bases on a hit.

  10. I guess I'm just in favor of a punt returner having the option to catch the ball without getting his helmet taken off while standing there defenseless. But that's just me.

  11. Why do they put cattle in a corral? Seriously, I never gave it much thought. I suppose one reason might be that it makes it easier to supervise the substitution process.

  12. I think LCC can win Sectional 34, but I don't think they can beat LaVille. I hope they make it to state, but LCC has been giving up a lot of points. I want to see how we do against Tipton on Friday.

  14. I think Vincennes is definitely playing with some heart and probably 2 chips on their shoulders during the offseason the Evansville paper, reporters, and SIAC fans were pushing this idea that VL was looking to leave the SIAC already. the PAC I believe unanimously voted to not let them join and they ended up staying in the SIAC. Kinda feels like they said “ya know what…nobody seems to believe in us so screw them…we will show them on Friday nights” and so far they have arguably been the most impressive team this year in terms of expectations and results

  15. Luers is looking pretty solid with victories over Concordia and Wayne. They only lost to 6A Homestead by 8 points. The offense is getting better each week and has come a long way since their Week 1 loss to Carroll. This week they have 5A contender North Side. The Legends will be a good measuring stick to see how Luers is at the season's midway point. I'd have a hard time believing that the Knights aren't one of the top five teams in 2a.

  17. I have no idea about owen valley other than they are the patriots. And something about them being the patriots makes me want to see GS beat them lol But i don’t think it will be the same as playing at Heritage hills

  18. I just think it's hard to give any predictions when it's still so wide open. I will say that Scecina has been the most-impressive team to me so far but LaVille and Linton have looked good too. IMO 2A North has been a tad deeper the past two years but this year it's looking like 2A South might be a little better overall. Either way I think this is one of the most-balanced classes at the top and whatever team is left standing at the end will have earned it. I think we'll have a little bit better picture of the contending teams in a couple weeks.

  19. BD hosted Brownsburg but your other point is true. That one is forgivable as I am sure many voters simply look at the box score. LC has respectable losses to Westfield and HSE and comfortably beat Warren. That one is inexcusable.

  21. Every public address announcer in the state should immediately be advised, upon pain of termination: There is no “offsides” foul in high school. The foul is encroachment. There is no such thing as “illegal procedure.” As was pointed out above, Signal #19 covers a multitude of sins. You can usually figure out which one it is from context. But if you want certainty, have the booster club spring for a Referee’s field mike.

  22. The signal for offside on a kickoff is the offside signal. I believe the signal for an illegal kick (e.g., a popup kick) is illegal procedure, which *is not* offside (but I'm assuming the announcers are used to seeing that signal as a false start and don't realize it is used for several other fouls, including illegal formation and an illegal free kick, such as a kickoff out of bounds). Something tells me the announcers confused the two signals and announced it wrong.

  24. I can't be the only one who has noticed this thread is mainly down to 4 folks sharing back and forth. Remember in 2020 when EVERYONE seemed to have an opinion (and make it known) regarding politics? What happened to all of them? I guess you can only reply with "at least he's not Trump" so many times. #Unity #BuildBackBetter

  25. I've been told that the Bellmont staff is banking on the freshmen class. That class has/had some talent. My question is if the administration is going to wait that long for things to turn around. The middle school teams actually played close games with AC this year. However those middle schoolers didn't get the full youth football experience. I know I've butted heads a bit with the Bellmont staff over the youth program that is/was shared with AC, but really do want them to succeed. The big problem has been prior coaches not wanting to unify the program from youth on up. They did bring in some quality guys to run the youth and middle school. I know I was one of a few blamed for hurting the Bellmont program bc AC's youth beating the Bellmont youth teams and thus a change occurred to join the Wells County league. Not sure either program has had any success in that Wells County league as I've been hands off since that change due to my stepkids playing sports in Ohio for their school.

  28. Covington @ SV - Sounds like SV will be the WRC Champs. SV wins by as much as they want FC @ Attica - FC wins 48-12 NV @ RP - Game of the week. Wonder how both teams will respond to the losses last week. I think it'll be a close high scoring game. I'll take RP 35-32 PH @ Seeger - Seeger wins 40-6

  30. Totally agree. Mr. Doyel at the Indianapolis Star wouldn't shut up about Mr. Wentz and Covid, it was like a personal vendetta. Although Mr. Doyel is correct about the Colts kicker: https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2022/09/12/colts-can-they-admit-rodrigo-blankenship-has-kicked-himself-out-of-job/65471121007/

  31. The real question I have is which conference has the most Waffle Houses? SEC or ACC? Head to head it's not even close between Tennessee and Pitt.

  32. There is no limitation on the number of people on the sidelines. Team personnel must be in the team box, which goes from 25 to 25. The team box may be extended, for team personnel in uniform only, down to the 10 yd. line. Don’t know if they did this. There is no rule controlling access to the sidelines, only that the restricted area (the 6’ wide box that goes all around the field) stay clear while the ball is alive.

  33. You’re right, I was just commenting on the top two in the rankings. They had some good clashes in the past and I figured whoever gets out of the “Evansville sectional” will most likely run into EC. Haven’t checked in a while so I can’t remember if it would be regionals or semi-state. But yes, Reitz and Memorial will have their hands full with each other if they collide and by sectional time Memorial will be playing much better football. Could make for an outstanding matchup.

  34. I guess this is what I would call my Power Rankings after Week 4? 1. Reitz 2. Vincennes 3. Castle 4. Memorial 5. Mater Dei 6. North 6. Jasper 8. Harrison 9. Bosse 10. Central After Reitz and Vincennes it gets tricky, Eye-test definitely was a huge factor in this

  37. Thank you for everything you have done! Years ago I started to do what you have done, but I never had the time and I couldn't get everything from my phone like you can today. I thought they had a pinned topic for high school football history, but couldn't find it. It is amazing that you have all the scores back to 1947. I don't know what you need to complete everything, but I could post what I have. I know you have all of southern Indiana all the way back. Thank you again for everything you have done!

  38. Week 4 Review: Not surprised Memorial beat MD but I thought MD would score more points. Memorial is getting healthier and should be rolling by playoff time. MD can still make a title run in 2A but they will have to figure out their identity a little more and put more drives together. Vincennes keeps on rolling. That's a team nobody really wants to play and a team that might be able to give Gibson Southern a game in that sectional. They have some impressive wins, and that close loss to Reitz seems more impressive considering how good Reitz has been. They still have a few tough opponents and I am looking forward to see how they stack up to the grind that is the SIAC schedule. Reitz is mighty impressive. They dominated a good North team in every facet at their place. I just don't think there are many, if any, teams in southern Indiana that can match up with their skills positions. The defense has proven people wrong as well and seems to be much improved. Jasper has to be feeling a bit better after starting a freshman and getting a blowout win. Having the future bright at the QB position is always a positive. They still have a few more opportunities coming up to get statement wins, but not sure if they have the right pieces to the puzzle this year. Castle has established their identify and will be tough for any team to beat with the defense they have. I think they could still lose 1 or 2 more games in the SIAC, but I think they will have a good shot in their sectional. I believe they play Reitz in a few weeks which should be a great matchup.

  39. Aside from that did we do OK? Pretty easy game to work. Players played, coaches coached, we did our thing. Always a great atmosphere at GS.

  40. By rule the kicker and the holder may be beyond K’s Free Kick Line. The kicker was not called twice for being “offsides”. K was called twice for pop up kicks. In talking with the coach it seems just misexecuted squib kicks.

  42. A system of rules designed to accomplish a particular result should not be written to address the “one in a million” situation at the expense of the great majority of students wishing to change schools and continue to participate in athletics without suffering eligibility restrictions.

  43. For Pioneer: Offensively, we lose leading rusher Brock Robinson, wingback Beau Mersch and linemen, Legrand (TE), Solano, Smith(TE) and Lowe. Defensively, we lose Legrand and Solano from the Dline, LB Smith and DB Robinson. We return a handful of experience on both sides of the ball, but we will need a lot of kids to step up who have limited varsity experience. I'd hazard a guess that we will see freshmen on the field on Fridays sooner rather than later due to the overall lack of depth we will have. Will definitely be an interesting year.

  44. A man after my own heart. Although the illegal blindside block penalties need to be removed as well. If Tommy doesn’t want to be looking out of his earhole after running down on kick coverage, he should learn to keep his head on a swivel. HEAD ON A SWIVEL. (Which just happens to be my life motto.)
