The second gen fields aren’t nearly as hot as the first gen fields were. Columbus East was hands down the hottest turf I was ever on, it felt like you hit a wall about 20’ from it.2 points

All Evansville games start at 6:30 CDT now. Which is so silly. Push them to 8.2 points

In the late 1950's and early 1960's, when I went to school, our games started at 8PM, but you had to be at CYO Field by 6PM to get a seat at most games. I realize that's back in the dark ages, but we were on Central Time, here in Indianapolis, at that time also. It was a lot more civilized, imho.1 point

They should start all games under the lights no matter the temperature. With this crazy time change games start at 7 and most of the first half is played in the daylight.1 point

BG vs Clay- Colonials woes continue. Bremen vs Washington- something tells me the panthers squeak this one out. CMA vs Marian- I have a feeling the Knights right the ship this week and come away with a W. Elkhart vs Northridge- the lions have a ton of work to do to be considered a 6a power like a lot of people are saying. Raiders win this one easy. Jimtown vs Concord- I can see this one going either way. I’ll take the Jimmies in a close one. Riley vs Glenn- Riley airs it out and takes care of the falcons. Mishawaka vs Penn- Glad to see this game back on the schedule. Kingsmen Take care of business rather easily. St Joe vs South side- Maybe the Indians? NP vs Goshen- I think last week was a big eye opener for the Cougars. NP needs to stick with what they do best and run the ball. The combination of Kmiecik and Sinka has the potential to be lethal if they choose to utilize it. The passing game is there but Kmiecik needs to go through his progressions and not always go for the home run. That said cougars take care of business.1 point

Oakland is the 3-time defending 6A state champs. They won last year's championship game 42-6. Last week they led 26-0 before coasting.1 point

Don't think anyone is hanging with NorthWood this year in the North. The real question is whether the Panthers can make it interesting down at LOS...1 point

Kind of a strange non-sequitur, but I can assure you it's NOT Mason Wunderlich. I believe Tate Mallory played QB last Friday.1 point

My only source is an interview with Jason Garrett from Wane.com. He thinks his team is in 4A, so if they aren't, that's kind of a problem. Harrell's and Sagarin still show Dwenger as 5A. I've said it before, I'll say it again. To many "viewers" on this forum who don't provide any content. The admin's should make this a pay site with viewership restricted to members only and a minimum of one post per month. One of our regular "viewers" has the answer to this.1 point

I just took a few minutes and watched the Pioneer / Cass replay. I have to say that I agree with your assessment of Cass. They aren't winning the TRC this year as some have speculated. They just didn't impress me at all. That said, Pioneer ran their wing T pretty well and that in itself will give some teams fits. But ya, the Panthers are a year away from being at the top of the HNAC. Also watched some of the Judson / Culver game and the Jays looked good. Granted, it's Culver they're playing. But they will definitely compete for the HNAC title this year.1 point

Week 1 in the books with some unexpected outcomes in my opinion, but it was week 1. On to week two in the non-conference portion of the season. Elkhart at Northridge: Last week Elkhart underperformed, which I fear may be a season long issue for them. Northridge played well and did a fantastic job. I may have been wrong on my initial thoughts of how Northridge would do this year….great showing for the NLC! In this game, I think Northridge continues that trend and fairly handily defeats Elkhart. Northridge 35 Elkhart 10 Goshen at New Prairie: Goshen…well…it may be a long season (taking nothing away from Fairfield…they may have a squad down in New Paris). New Prairie…I’m not too familiar with what they had coming back from last year, nor do I have a whole lot of info on LaPorte (other than what is in the papers). With that said…pretty socking to me that the Slicers won that game…Good for those boys…they have had a rough couple of years. I hope Goshen can be competitive in this game, but I don’t see it happening. New Prairie 30 Goshen 7 Jimtown at Concord: Jimtown preformed how I thought they would against NW. I feel they will be at the top of the small division of the NIC. Concord did better than I thought they would…a bit of a quarterback issue however. I feel like this will be the best game of the week. These two schools always show up to play one another. I’m going to say Concord in a close game. Concord 17 Jimtown 14 Mishawaka at Penn: Penn looked real good Friday and may be one of the best in the North this year. I’m not sold on Mishawaka quite yet…they still have a lot of new guys playing on the line. I don’t think Marian is very good this year and made the cavemen look way better than they are. If this game were being played at Mishawaka…I would say that may level the field a little…but it being at Penn…I don’t see this being very close. I think Penn’s offense will make Mishawaka play catch up…and they are not built for that. Penn 49 Mishawaka 14 NorthWood at Portage: Admittedly I don’t know much about Portage (other that they are hanging on to that mascot…good for them) and they play in a tough conference. They have a new coach and some people on the boards are high on them turning things around in region. NorthWood was a bit sloppy in the first game, but I’m sure they will square that up. If the weather is nice of Friday…we may see the full potential of NorthWood’s offense on the turf…and that may not be a good thing for Portage. I don’t think this will be a particularly close game. NorthWood 56 Portage 14 Plymouth at Columbia City: You would have though Plymouth won a state championship last week…but for real…great win for the kids and the whole community! Columbia City did what was expected and I think they have a squad again this year. I don’t think the winning streak continues for Plymouth this week and things may get a bit out of hand. I see CC running that offense all over Plymouth’s defense. CC 35 Plymouth 7 Warsaw at Chesterton: Chesterton is another team from the Duneland that I don’t know much about. They lost to Hobart, but I feel as if the Brickies are going to be pretty good this year. Warsaw won a close one to a Michigan City and I still believe they will top the NLC this year. A blind guess in this game will be Warsaw 28 Chesterton 14? Wawasee at West Noble: This is it….this is the game…Wawasee is going to win this game! I think Valley is pretty good and Wawasee may have lost, but didn’t get blown out. I don’t know much about West Noble…other than their football field is 47 miles uphill away from their school. Even with that hike up the hill…I’m still taking the Warriors! Wawasee 21 West Noble 141 point

Still believe Knox is the team to beat. Pioneer took a big step Friday. Panthers start 14 freshmen and sophomores, but they are talented. Seniors are well seasoned and provide excellent leadership. Friday is just one game, but if they can stay healthy they could be a dangerous draw come tourney time.1 point

Congrats to Pioneer on the win over Cass! In my mind, that instantly makes them a player for the HNAC crown. I don't think they'll win it, but they will be a factor in who does. Triton was not as explosive offensively as I expected them to be. They were solid and moved the ball well. I just thought we would see some home runs, but it was a lot of singles with a few doubles scattered in here and there. But disciplined teams can win a lot of games that way!1 point

North Side gets a 'pass' IMO. 2 significant injuries to their team, may have had an impact. Now, in NO WAY should Northridge be concerned about that situation....the Raiders came to play! Won the contest, and no matter the reason(s).... As Parcells said: "You ARE what your record says you are!" The Raiders are 1-0...no matter how/why they got there. Luers is Luers...talk at the end of the season. The Knights should be around in 2A. Not so sure about the Saints. We'll see how they regroup. All in all, the SAC kept some of the potential 'blowouts' close. That should be taken into account as they have stepped up their non-conference schedules. This is what we have been demanding for years.1 point

Your question on which o-lineman went down for South on their first TD drive of the game, it was their starting center Matt Eller. He's a senior and like I said previously he walked off on his own with a slight limp. I went back and reviewed the first half of the game. I didn't see the trainers doing much with him on the sideline and I later saw that he was walking around with a wrap on his left knee, but no ice. Maybe he just tweaked it and it's nothing serious, but you never know with these things. Although South hurt themselves with the major penalties in the first half, I thought East's offense played fairly well in the first half given all of their new pieces.1 point

I was at the SV/WV game and my goodness, SV is VERY impressive. 21-0 nothing before our offense touched the ball. Mostly self inflicted but SV can move the ball. They're a dangerous team if they stay healthy. Weir, Condor, and Coleman are weapons. Garzo can rip it. Shyrock (sp?) was also good in the backfield. They could make a run in the state tournament if their draw works out.1 point

The margin WAS a surprise. NO ONE, not even those from Allen County had Snider winning this game…and not only did they win…it was a rout. Gotta love a guy who bypasses a thread for two months and then stops by postgame to say he expected the eventual result, lol. Where were you pregame?1 point
