Slick John here, taking a quick break from my limousine lifestyle to provide a little insight at the half-way point of the NLC season. We may even have some weather games tonight with rain/wind in the forecast! Concord (3-0)- Impressive wins so far from this group. Dirty secret, though, is that they have given up the 3rd most points in the conference. This could be an achilles heel moving forward. However, on the other side of the ball, their offensive line seems to be really coming together. It is looking more and more like the investment into building the new weight room/program 3 years ago is paying off. Mishawaka (2-1)- Have scored the most points in the conference by a long shot. Something to be said about that. Big time Northwood fans this evening. Has been quite impressive seeing their resilience through losing a couple key pieces to the transfer portal early in the summer. Northwood (2-1)- Still in the title hunt with Concord coming to town this week. I foresee the Panthers playing extremely well on their home field this evening- matching that up with Concord being set-up for a let down, not much has to happen for Northwood to win this game. Plymouth (2-1)- Eye-opening/surprise start of the season. We will see how much it holds. On the positive side, it at least looks like Plymouth is excited about football again. Whatever happens these last 4 weeks is still something to build on for the future. Warsaw (2-1)- Another Northwood fan this evening. Warsaw lost an instant classic last week and I'm sure "Bart's Boys" will let Plymouth know they practiced hard this week. Plymouth, I think, keeps it a little closer than the spread (-28.5), even to the point of people being surprised at half time with a close score if the weather is an issue. Northridge (1-2)- I have heard rumblings of Northridge faithful referring to themselves as the "best 1-4 team in the state." Is there going to be a banner hung up for that? Keep in mind, Ben Davis is also 1-4, btw. Hey, every week is a new week, with Mishawaka coming to town, maybe best 1-5 team in the state will be on the table! Goshen (0-3), Wawasee (0-3)- Obviously, weve hit the down slope of the parabola here, gentlemen. An interesting game nonetheless in the battle of new coaches! Almost a title game of sorts! Add in some bad weather and we could be in for a heck of a show.

It's getting close to closing time on the plantation, so let's get down to bass tacks. Weeks ago these two teams were extremely evenly matched. But, there have been injuries since then. Also keeping in mind that the rumble will be in the jungle on that despicably swampy sod grass, I think it will be a two score ball game at the end of it. I could be wrong on this, but if I were a bettin' man and had to put a score on it.... 38 - 25 Heritage Hills by a bakers dozen.

Northwestern-Maconaquah--although MHS are the Braves, I like the Tigers in this one Tonight its going to come down to which team has more success on the ground. I can't see these teams airing it out that much tonight.

Shouldn't be an issue for Heritage Hills....historically they just grab someone camping in the woods and throw some stripes and a whistle on them. Then tell them...hey just stand over this ball until our defense is ready to play. LOL

I agree this could be a big issue. The IFOA just sent a notice for a couple games and I've received several texts or emails from others looking for officials. We have a fighting chance if the games are spread out over time and not all try to play at noon. The officials from up north can make some money tomorrow if they want to travel south! 50-60mph winds can create a lot of damage and dangerous situations. Many may remember the bleachers at Center Grove getting blown into the goal posts and knocking them over back in August. Power outages are expected tonight as well. It's not a stupid idea to put safety first and wait until tomorrow. Has nothing to do with actual playing conditions.

Yep. I guess the QB's in these new-fangled spread offenses can't take a snap from up under center, which would be advised under these weather conditions. Oh, and it appears players coaching staffs don't like wet or muddy uniforms. They are icky.

It will be interesting to see how many of these rescheduled games are able to get officials.

Tri-West has joined the Hoosier Legends Conference. 2025-2026 Sagamore is Danville, Lebanon, McCutcheon, Harrison. And I agree, Muda. The Monon doesn't make sense for BC. 1:45 minute drive on a Tuesday for Volleyball, girls basketball, or any Middle School/Jr High sport doesn't make sense. WRC makes much more sense.

Betting on the come means what will come. How many times have you made plans because there’s no chance of rain…..the damn. How many times to we see schools cancel school based on forecast that turn to be a bunch of nothing. I think the term comes from hanging on to a shitty hand in poker thinking you’ll get what you need on the turn.

For some reason it really rubs me the wrong way that you're a fringe Region guy who commutes to The Loop everyday as a Packers fan. 1. The Pac 12 put a lot of DB's into the NFL. Not really sure why it matters who he played against. But he was solid at Oklahoma and solid at USC until his last year. His OL sucked his last year in USC and his numbers dropped 2. Allen being hurt sucks. Moore is getting most of the focus from defenses. It's freeing up Odunze. Not really sure where the inconsistent play comment is coming from. WR's can't do anything if the QB can't throw the ball. 3. Roschon Johnson is good. He's not fully healthy though. The Colts game was the first time he saw good action this year. Herbert is a serviceable RB. Swift was a wasted FA pickup. Should have spent that cash on IOL help. 4. Defense has been solid. What are you talking about? 5. Agreed. The downtown stadium likely isn't happening. The state is currently not interested in financing and the Bears would have to go to war with The Friends Of The Parks to get it built. This is a majoir undertaking. There would be a lot of infrustructure changes as well to make it easier to get to and from Soldier Field. Right now it's not even close to be pedestrian friendly as you have to get over the Metra Lines and LSD to get to Soldier Field. Not really sure why building an entertainment distict you own in Arlington isn't the first option. 6. I think the McCaskey's have made improvements here by hiring Poles and Warren. That's a MASSIVE change to how the organization was previously ran (a McCaskey as President and the Financial CFO as GM) Everyone just needs to relax. It's 3 games. The clear broken part of the team is the OL and they're holding back the offense. Poles should deservedly take heat for not fixing the line if they season progresses as it's currently going. But, like @Coach Nowlin pointed out, maybe the focus all along was to get the high end offensive talent in while it was available and fix the OL for next year with picks / FA pickups.

let’s talk about Andrew Botner. The Cayenne Pepper Andrew Botner debate has come to a close. Botner is red hot. He is taking the conference as the best back. Reminds me of that Earl Kid in 2014. Botner is hot and I’ll say it right to your face. He better be all conference and that is state law. He is the lead guy in the North Vermillion offense

Week 6 games in CI: New Albany (3-2 @ Bloomington North (4-1) - The New Albany Bulldogs make the long trip to the northwest side of Bloomington to take on the Bloomington North Cougars. The Bulldog's winning record right now is very misleading and the cumulative record of the three teams they have beaten is 0-15, while their two losses were by lopsided scores. The Bloomington North Cougars have played a somewhat tougher schedule, and are coming off their worst effort of the season against Terre Haute North and had to keep the Patriots at arms-length pretty much the entire game as they couldn't get out of their own way with a plethora of mistakes/penalties. It will probably be an unhappy bunch of Cougars that will welcome the Bulldogs and they will want to make amends for last week's game. All of the tangibles and intangibles seem to favor the Cougars in this game and I expect the game not to be close. (JH's site prediction - Bloomington North 42 New Albany 14) Terre Haute North (1-4) @ Columbus North (4-1) - The Terre Haute North Patriots make the long trip to Columbus to play the Columbus North Bull Dogs which is coming off their first loss of the season after leading Chatard going into the 4th and giving up the winning TD with just over one minute left in the game. The TH North Patriots were competitive against the Bloom. North Cougars last Friday with a lot of help from the Cougars. The Patriots are led by very talented senior RB Zyeiar White who is averaging 165 ypg. The Patriots QB is soph Maddox Woodcock and his numbers have been pretty modest this season and he is just connecting on .375 pct of his passes so far this season, so look for the Bull Dogs defense to key on White in this game. I expect Bull Dog junior QB Asher Ratliff to have a big game this Friday. Will Columbus North have a letdown after the Chatard loss? I doubt it but even if they do, they have more than enough to handle the Patriots. I expect this game to be over by halftime. Bloomington South (3-2) @ Southport (0-5) - The Bloomington South Panthers travel to Southport to face the Cards on their home field. The South Panthers are coming off a tough nailbiter two-point win over Terre Haute South, while Southport gave it their best in trying to get that first win, but lost to Heritage Christian by 10 points. The win over TH South was much needed by the Panthers after they played extremely poor in a loss to the B-North Cougars. I finally found some stats from both the South and Southport games last Friday. South soph QB Duncan Hines rebounded nicely from his poor showing against B-North and hit on 88.2 pct of his passes against the TH South defense, and was 15 of 17 with one TD and one pick. Panther junior RB Braylen Townsend rushed for 168 yards on 31 carries and had 3 TDs. Against Heritage Christian, the Southport Cards were led by junior RB Riley Matlock who rushed for 164 yards on 28 carries and he scored 2 rushing TDs. Cardinal junior QB Gavin Cummings had pretty modest numbers and was 6 of 15 passing for 89 yards and no TDs or picks. South's young offense is definitely well ahead of their young defense and they are capable of putting up a lot of points quickly, while their defense still has a ways to go, especially their secondary. South should beat Southport rather easily, but their defense could up more points than they would care to give. (JH's site prediction - Bloomington South 38 Southport 24) Terre Haute South (1-3) @ Northview (5-0) - To me, this is a very interesting game as the South Braves make the short trip to Brazil to take on the unbeaten Northview Knights which is No. 11 in the 4A polls. Terre Haute South's record is misleading and they are a better team than their record suggests, and with the exception of TH North, their schedule has been difficult. On the other hand, we don't know just how good the Northview Knights are. All five of the Knights' wins this season have been against teams with losing records and their opponents have a cumulative record of 6 and 19. The Braves beat the Knights, 36-27, last season. I saw the Braves play against the Bloom. South Panthers last Fri/Sat and like the Panthers, they have an offense that can put up a lot of points quickly, and like the Panthers, their defense can be leaky. The TH South Braves have a veteran QB who is really good in senior Brady Wilson and he was 18 of 22 passing against the South Panthers for a completion pct of .818 and threw for 243 yards and one TD with one pick. The Braves have a very good RB in junior Tyisaac Corbin and he rushed for 168 yards on 31 carries and scored two rushing TDs against the South Panthers. Against a really, really bad Owen Valley team, the Northview Knight were led by junior RB Slade Fell who had 7 carries for 113 yards and a TD. Their junior QB Colton Bath threw the ball just 6 times while completing 4 passes 76 yards and two TDs with one pick. Terre Haute South is just light years better than any of the Knights opponents they have seen so far, so I think they will come out on top in this game.
