  10. Was there once in my youth. Was very impressed by the perpetual cloud that hung over the student section.

  11. It doesn't bother me either....I also passionately believe that a qualification system would have ZERO effect on the "meaningfulness" or the quality of play in SW Indiana. I believe that our conferences do a pretty good job of taking care of that. If they would just seed 1 and 2 on opposite sides of the bracket...I think that would be good enough.

  14. No, that stance has not changed. As for HERO DAD COACHES it is up to the youth leagues to better vet and hold these coaches to a higher standard. I haven't heard much about these kind of incidents occurring at PAL or Catholic run youth leagues, do you? I don't know what kind of youth league this Indy Firehawks team was affiliated with, if any. I suspect it was probably one of these independent travel-type teams, which is pretty much the wild west when it comes to youth sports. I also think that with the growth of "lay coaches" in middle and high school sports it's only a matter of time before you see one of these HERO DAD COACHES stalking the sidelines of a field or court near you.

  15. No, the student section always files in late. By the start of "Jump Around" after the third quarter, it was packed. Madison is highly recommended! Many great bars and restaurants.

  18. @Muda69 Question, have you changed your stance on sports being a function of Public School offerings? I know we both have been around here for better part of 2 decades, I remember some posts where you advocated for youth sports to stay out of the Public School Domain, citing money allocation etc. I think if that is the model you support then you get these type of HERO DAD COACHES who are not affiliated with schools and do not get held to higher standards.

  19. Sorry didn't mean to confuse, I was just belaboring the old conversation of the way things should be. Kicking the dead horse of "making the regular season count for something".

  24. Two muffed punts in a row. Purdue got the first one back, but not the second one which of course was run in for a touchdown on Wisconsin’s first play from scrimmage. It basically set the tone for the day in addition to consuming many Capitol City Ambers. Lucky’s 1313 Brew Pub also had many good craft beers.

  26. Following this topic because so many conference topics from this site end up on a page belonging to someone who asked to be deleted from here. Funny thing is, he got his panties in a wad over posts being used from his facebook page were being posted here. He asked to delete them, with a mention of legal recourse on his part. yet we see he is doing the same thing. he has not copied this topic yet, but I am sure it will happen soon. And he calls himself a journalist lol 🙂 Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

  27. thanks guys...yes it goes by so fast...I remember that first game vs Center Grove like it was yesterday, and it was six years ago...good memories. He has had an awesome career and and great time at Toledo. Has degree in hand, working on his masters, and will start combine prep in January. Should be fun.

  29. I work closely with our local youth league, the crap you deal with…… you are a youth league coach, run the O you’re told to run, run the D you’re told to run, you’re job is to teach what the HC wants taught. We’re not going to build a statue if you go undefeated in 5/6 football. How many kids show up next year and what do the know, that’s how you’ll be judged as a youth league coach.

  30. They'll only be a top 4 seed if they win the B10, likewise with Georgia and the SEC. Top 4 seeds are the highest 4 ranked conference champions. As it stands now it would be: #1 Texas #2 Ohio State #3 Miami #4 Iowa State

  31. I am fortunate enough to referee every Rensselaer Rampage game we host at our field this fall, its been awesome, I will tell you this much: Opposing Coaches, I have had 2 issues where coaches, one was 3rd/4th grade coach and another was 5/6th grade coach.... The way the reacted when they didn't get a call they thought was right was embarrassing.....one guy started literally jumping up and down and spinning yelling NO WAY NO WAY, and guess what, his players that play and the next play when I threw a flag for face masking (a no doubter) his players started yelling and acting the same way. I told DAD COACH, this is your fault, look at how these young kids are now yelling and speaking.....I wonder why that is?? They make a goal line stand and that Same Coach started acting like they just won a major championship, I started barking at him, Congratulations on your BIG TIME GOAL LINE STAND, that WHOLE SEQUENCE you taught you kids how important it is to act like a fool and not worry about important parts of the game. Keep up the good work coach...... Now the other coach, he saw it all go down, he appologized to me, blah blah blah..... Wouldn't you know it said team won 6-0 and in classic form, dumb dumb coach comes to me after the game, I am sorry, blah blah blah, so I calmly said, You are only telling me that because you guys 1. Won, and 2. I made you look like a fool on other occasions tonight based on how you choose to act in front of kids. I told him we are in the KID BUSINESS, not winning like that business and probably needs to reevaluate what his goals as a coach is in 5/6th grade football. Same team came back last week, not a PEEP from him all night long. Now onto the situation in Indy: Adults again FAILED KIDS. What exactly is "competitive talk gone too far" when the kids are 11-U. Garbage, all of that . So no wonder it got real stupid after what sounds like a close game..... As the guy in charge of our games on the field, the SLIGHTEST moment of a player getting out of line, I immediately stop, talk to the kid/coach and tell em if it happens again, yellow coming out and taking a seat. We also reward 1 player from each team a Sportsmanship Medal, I watch and see how all the young kids interact and play the game, and then give the name to press box, where they announce it and I give the medal to visiting team with some good things that I saw that had nothing to do with X/O's and scoreboard. Maybe if places like this league in INDY think of it that way vs looking to earn Highlight love that they think will turn into a scholarship they could avoid such embarrassing and dangerous situations.

  34. Maybe so. But postseason success against your class doesn’t mean you would be good against higher classes. We all see what 5A looks like in Indiana most years. I’ve seen a few years where the 5A winner would struggle vs the 3A winner. The 4th best 4A team this year could probably make the 5A championship game this year and would likely win

  36. Ruminations with Spanky Harper Written, edited, and dictated by Spanky Harper i am riding high on the hog. higher than space mountain. i got a bologna with cheese and a tallboy redbull. i got a log of skoal sittin in the console. muh Bluejays are playing great football. i got child support payments past due, but muh ex’s will just have to wait. these busch lights dont buy themselves nor do those pull-tabs pull themselves. i been on a losing streak, but muh Jays have been scorching hot. how hot? hotter than your mom on prom night back in ‘92. hotter than the denham blacktop. hotter than anything that has been seen in North Judson in a very long time. Spankin by the numbers 1- The Bluejays ranking in the 1A polls. 3- Wins over teams ranked in the top ten in 1a this season by the North Judson Bluejays. 5- Straight consecutive shutouts by the Bluejays defense. (LaVille scored on a kickoff) 15- Number of yards the Bluejays defense allowed on Friday against the trojenz of Triton. 16- Number of weeks until I complete my probation. Ask Me Anything (AMA with Spanky Harper): Over the last few months I have received a lot of emails with very personal questions. Here are some that have stood out that I wanted to share with yall. @Root.Allen.69 asks, “Spanky, any dating advice for the recently divorced?” Muh Response: Root, thanks for your inquiry. What’s your ex-wife's name, number and address? The dating world is tuff. Tuffer than some beef jerky from mark baileys. But you have to stay vigilant. First, update your facebook. Preferably with a picture with your shirt off. Show the world the goods. Second, you gotta slide into them dms. Think pete rose sliding into second base. Third, take what you can get. She might be a hog, but she can be your hog for the night; if ur man enuff for the challenge. @waynepugh98 asks, “Spanky, how do you balance the challenges of work and personal life? Muh Response: Wayne, great question! Muh personal life has never been better. I do what I want, when I want it; Sometimes twice. As for work, I aint never been no expert on the subject. I haven’t had steady work since Clinton was in office. I spend a lot of time at the Legion (Post 92). Ya know giving back to those in need. @Warriors_Fan_4LIFE asks, "How does this Bluejay Football team compare to some of the all-time great teams in the area?" Muh Response: i am no historian. I was blacked out for most of the 2000s. I also had that 5 year stint in westville so I have missed some things. Leave those conversations for those the barbershop and the fans in the stands. I live week to week with a PO who loves to limit my traveling outside the starke county area. I am hoping that they approve muh travels to royal center in a few weeks. i been dying for some gas station chicken. Keep sending in those questions and will post them from time to time.

  37. I don't even think this is North Judson's best team ever let alone beating those Kiser led teams. Pioneer imo was so good Jack's senior year, they win state without him, albeit closer. I'd really love to see Winamacs 2000 team face this Judson team. Both teams are very similar. Big offensive lines, very physical style of play and good athletes all over. Winamac offensive line that year went 215 T 260 G 204 C 324 G 250 T 290 TE They were also battle tested Beat 8-0 Frontier by 33. They finished 8-2 Beat North White in a tough match up who finished 11-3 Beat 8-2 Lewis Cass by 2 who went 8-2 Beat Eastbrook by 35 or 42 who went 7-4 Beat Delphi by 3 tds who went 9-3.
