  1. Locking this one up. DT misrepresented himself and his role as a contributor on social media. He did not agree with the expectations put in place by administrators on this site, and asked to have his account here deleted. End of story. Other topics started regarding this will be deleted. The new season is upon us, so let's move on.

  2. In fairness, I think homers shouldn't be plural. It has been and currently is one homer who drinks the purple kool-aid. Speaking of DC, is Stevens playing QB? I see he committed to Virginia Tech as a LB.

  3. We traveled to Triton Central, Scenina and Indy in consecutive weeks (regional and SS were Friday night games) and we had huge crowds.

  5. For me it's not even about driving distance because I don't mind a good road trip to new or familiar areas. My longstanding gripe is that Regional and Semi-State matchups (sometimes even Sectional Titles) are often played in front of empty bleachers in horrendous Friday night weather. My hope would be mid to late Saturday afternoon game times at neutral fields could increase the crowd size.

  6. I think you really missed the mark on this one. Effective enrollment is my theory regarding all P/Ps in the state that have decent football intangibles, it really has nothing to do with GS wins or losses. I think it is undeniable and I think every single one of you guys know it, but can't admit it, P/Ps simply have significantly less dead weight just by nature of their business and therefore it should be accounted for in classification. There should not be a competitive advantage just for making the "sacrifice" of sending your child to a P/P with good coaching in any sport (all things being equal with publics with good coaching). Memorial runs very similar in effective enrollment to Castle in both boys and girls athletics, just look at the all conference race. In terms of GS losses, out of the 5 games you mention I think 3 of them were 50/50 games that we came out on the short end of the stick, I personally have no wounds from that other than wishing we had gotten 1 or 2 of them to give the Naysayers less ammunition lol. I think the dead weight for publics is more like 25-35% (and GS is going to be lower than most), we are closer to MD than we are Memorial. It's not about roster size....rosters are full of dead weight at publics. Sure we don't play MD and if we had played them the last 11 years we probably would have lost a few....that is really irrelevant to the point.

  7. Seating, parking, concessions, rest rooms are just a few of the reasons for the push for neutral sites. Standing five deep in the end zone of a semi-state game is not a lot of fun. The players would love playing in the larger facilities as well. While we are at it, let's play double-header semi-states on Saturday. Gives families more time to get to the game, in mid-November it is usually warmer during the day and having two great games to watch on a fall afternoon is hard to beat.

  8. Arguably the most competitive and difficult class in Indiana outside of 6A. Pound for pound some of the best programs in the state with plenty of talent to go with it. 3A has also produced some of the closest most thrilling games to watch in November with so many close games between top ranked opponents. Preseason top 10 from the digest with their records and Sagarin rankings from last year 1) Bishop Chatard (7-5) 83.50 -Obviously were in 4A last year. But we all know the drill. Chatard is king of 3A and it’s up to everyone else to prove they are not. 2) West Lafayette (9-1) 79.99 -Perennial Top 3 team for 3A. Always competitive….just not always the best luck when it comes to the tournament draw or who is in their sectional 3) Tri-West (11-3) 71.42 -Always find themselves in the top 10 but it ultimately is going to come down to the sectional. Sectional 29 no longer has Chatard but it does have Webo and Danville who are both ranked. 4) Lawrenceburg (11-2) 77.36 -Another stable fixture of the Top 10 for 3A. I personally have some questions after they graduated a lot of studs, including All-American/Notre Dame commit Ashton Craig. Others more in the know seem to think it doesn’t matter and the tigers are reloading. 5) Mish. Marian (11-4) 75.41 - I’m not familiar with Mish Marian at all. I don’t even know their mascot. What I do know is that they consistently get ranked in the top 5 at some point every year but they stall out in the playoffs. 6) Gibson Southern (14-1) 94.32 -Reigning 3A champions and perennial top 5 team. Have a number of key players returning…but ultimately Brady Allen is now at Purdue and now it’s time for the next group to step up and take this team as far as it can go. 7) Oak Hill (8-3) 46.46 -Arguably the biggest wild card in this ranking. Are they a new school? Looking at their stats from last year….They MAYBE graduated 3 starters. Team was almost exclusively all sophomores and juniors playing. Their RB ran for 1991 yards and 34TDs in 11 games…he is back. Definitely a team to keep an eye on if the stats are true because they will have plenty of returning starters the next 2 seasons 😎 Western Boone (7-5) 65.30 -Pound for pound one of the toughest programs in the state. Need to beat Danville and/or Tri-West to just win their sectional…but it’s a task they are surely up for. 9) Danville (10-2) 71.44 -Always so close always so far. Danville is always a great team. They just have ran into the likes of Tri-West and Chatard the last 3 years. When it’s a battle of top 10 teams in November….you have to be at your very best and mistake free otherwise your season is over. 10) Delta (5-6) 50.44 -Moving down from 4A to 3A, they are in a unique position. It appears like 9 or 10 of the offense and 7/8 of the defensive starters are returning. Young core…but they were 5-6….but also they are likely at the top of 3A in terms of enrollment and having high 3A enrollment + a young core usually results in Ws and a postseason run. Honorable Mention These are just some teams that I personally think are worth mentioning and very well may find themselves inside the top 5 at some point this season Hanover Central (11-2) 61.52 Tipp. Valley (10-1) 62.36 Heritage Hills (9-3) 64.47 Brownstown Central (11-1) 63.45 Mt. Vernon (Posey) (8-2) 65.62 Southridge (5-5) 57.40

  10. I'm just looking at trends. And the trend is at minimum a 10 win season. Mason is 2-1 versus Bishop Luers over the last three seasons. And if the Knights couldn't beat him and his Blazers last season, I'm not sure when they can ever beat them again.

  12. Well, the NFL claimed it wanted an indefinite suspension which was a year minimum. I want to believe this since Big Ben received 6 games for a single alleged incident. But Bobref may be exactly right....the NFL looks better because they claimed they wanted a stiffer penalty (see what I did there?) but they will settle and make the former judge the scapegoat. I thought the closing in this Yahoo Sports article was an interesting take..... https://sports.yahoo.com/by-sue-robinsons-own-findings-there-was-nothing-non-violent-about-deshaun-watsons-conduct-220215808.html Robinson wrote that she believed the NFL’s contention that Watson β€œhad a sexual purpose β€” not just a therapeutic purpose β€” in making these arrangements.” She wrote that Watson knew β€œthe sexualized contact was unwanted.” She wrote that Watson had committed sexual assault as defined by the NFL. She wrote that Watson still shows no remorse, acted with β€œreckless disregard for the consequences,” and that his pattern of conduct is β€œmore egregious than any before reviewed by the NFL.” She thinks Watson is such a danger that she wants him, for the remainder of his career, to get massages only through his team or with a team-approved therapist. To some of us, that sounds like a predator, someone who knows what they’re doing is wrong, does it anyway and could do it again in the future. And yet given all of this, Robinson gave Watson what amounts to a slap on the wrist. His non-throwing one at that.

  13. Did the NFL β€œpull its punches” in [not] producing evidence at the hearing? Seems to me they ended up pretty well off compared to the potential downside. One of their franchise players will be back on the field for 2/3 of the season. And the league came out of it appearing to press for more severe punishment, and with a convenient fall guy in the person of the arbitrator.

  14. Fair assessment. This is why I'm probably the most interested in the 5A playoffs. From a Duneland perspective, it's their only shot at a State Title. From a competitive perspective, no Cathedral opens up the door for some new blood like DC or Merrillville to get a Title or a recent winner like New Pal, Columbus East, Snider, or Dwenger to add to their hardware.

  18. I could be wrong but I’ll guess…”the Indy factor.” Until non-central Indy schools breakthrough at the 5A/6A level when it comes to winning titles, β€œbias” towards them will always exist. Only Columbus East and Snider have weakened the stereotype recently.

  20. As ugly and unseemly as it all is, and everyone involved is dirty…the owners/front office people (especially in Houston), the escor….ooops, massage β€œtherapists”, and of course, Watson himself. The critical piece in all of this is the two occasions that prosecutors tried charging him, and failed to bring a single charge. Something like 45 witnesses testified before the grand jury, and ZERO indictments. So what do you do if you are the NFL? This is likely the most they could do. Maybe an additional game or two? They probably wanted to avoid an appeal as well. Watson got off easy in so many ways (see what I did there? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Ž) in this whole thing. Not sure if he will appeal this or not, stupid move if he does.

  23. Something the free and open market could provide as well. Yet FDR and his socialist cronies realized they could enamor generations of Appalachian and southern region voters to their socialist cause if they gave them a virtually "free" electric infrastructure, paid for by generations of other American citizens. And still the TVA harbors tens of billions of dollars in debt. A typical government boondoggle.

  25. Every year as we get past the sectional, people moan and groan about driving distances for the regionals and semistates. Neutral sites can cut those driving distances in half, in addition to providing better venues. It’s disappointing when two really good teams play a high stakes game at a subpar facility.

  29. I mean if we are counting Catholics attending the school GS might have MD beat πŸ˜‚ Always get a chuckle hearing the phrase β€œmore Catholic kids than Mater Dei since 1974” but otherwise agree. Probably a good 15% of public schools are kids who for some reason or another are there just because they have to be

  35. Not sure I get why their are some out there pushing for neutral sites for semi-state and even regional games. My thoughts are this where seeding should be used, not who plays who but who has home field. Take CG or Westfield the last two year both teams should not have played a way game in the tournament.

  37. Well...in our "neck of the woods" (Southern Indiana) - let's take a quick quiz. Since the implementation of the SF, which schools have been forced up due to tournament success? A. Gibson Southern B. Mater Dei C. Heritage Hills D. Southridge While I realize their time is probably quickly coming (Mater Dei and Gibson Southern) - we've personally felt the sting/pitfalls of such a program. Not only after a State Championship, but also acquiring enough points to STAY up (I realize enrollment was going to put us there anyway in the newest classification cycle.) Bottom line, we had kids who weren't even in the high school program paying for the successes of kids who are now in the junior/senior year of college...and that just seems weird. But, as they say, "it is what it is"
