  3. Being a member of that 2005 NorthWood team who made that run, I can tell you those 6 weeks were some of the most fun times I've had playing football. We were able to bring NorthWood it's first State Championship and if memory serves me right, it's Chatard's only loss in a state championship game. Great memories to look back on every year around this time. In the second round of Sectionals we were losing to Culver Military 17-0 at halftime and came back to win 24-17. We also defeated Griffith, who at the time was the #1 team in 3A averaging about 50 points a game with absolute dudes on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. We were able to squeak out a 17-10 win against a well oiled Russ Radtke machine.

  4. And the reason I like the all in Playoff format . Northwood had injuries plague them in the regular season , only to get the players back for the playoffs .

  5. This is a great read; not just for seniors, but for all players. https://outsidethehuddle.net/2019/10/21/coachs-corner-an-open-letter-to-seniors-on-the-eve-of-the-postseason/?fbclid=IwAR2KpPyMFlWAQ8eCx8sDeeSdzhD5zBbtw8Nu30nCoHPv_yZZlnD_b6wzSMg

  8. Best coaching job I've ever seen was in that state championship game. Chatard's bread and butter play was a short toss sweep with the QB acting as a blocker. NorthWood must have spent hours and hours running that play in practice until everyone knew exactly what to do. Someone (I think it was the play-side linebacker) came in an blew up the fullback as far back in the backfield as possible every single time Chatard ran that play. Didn't try to make the tackle, just did his job every play. That pushed the ball carrier back or disrupted the timing of the play just enough for someone else to make the tackle after only a short gain, if any. It was very impressive work by the coaching staff. Good players too. I was very impressed. It was a well deserved win for that program. After learning its lesson the hard way, Chatard won the state championship the next two years. I hate to be on the wrong side of it, but, I do love those stories. Good thread!

  9. SHUSH, the pitchforks will come out and tell you that that team would of made some computer based algorithm formatted tournament anyways and even if they didn't that is a once in a lifetime thing...... Don't tell that to @Chet56

  10. Love stories like this. Thanks for sharing! I'll never forget following the Charlestown-GS game on my phone knowing BC would play the winner in the Semi State. Turned it off after seeing the 49-21 halftime score. Couldn't believe GS came back when I found out the next morning!

  11. That is the run that I first thought of when I saw the thread. But if if folks want to talk about continuous championship runs, I’d think Chatard’s 10 state Championships in 17 years (1998-2015) ought to get some consideration. Add that there were two 3-Peats in there (2001-3 and 2010-12) and I think the 2013 team likely would have won 3A (for a 4-Peat) but they lost in the 4A Regional to New Pal when they were bumped up by the Success Factor.

  12. Not sure what demographics has to do with anything. My point was Warren's was more impressive for 2 reasons, tougher competition and rules regarding where you can draw your students from in a public v private environment. Anyone winning that many in a row is amazing. But there are some advantages for private schools. I don't think they are what they once were but when schools like LCC, Cathedral, Chatard develope great programs there are kids and families who will send their kids there for that reason. Typically an excellent high school education goes along with it. And I say more power to them, great job building success. You can see the same thing in public schools like New Pal currently who have built great programs but not as extensively because that involves families moving into the district. But let's not pretend it doesn't exist.

  13. Why? Because you said so? You can recognize one accomplishment as being great while also recognizing another similar accomplishment is better. That in no way diminishes the first. And nothing I said was untrue or unfair.

  14. We are bringing the entire Bomber Football program to Nebraska game the following week, field trip style. We were floored how many players in our middle and high school have never been to a college game, let alone a game 45 minutes from their homes. We are excited, one of our awesome parents is a JPC member and has a spot on Slater Hill. Going to tailgate before and after the games. Costs the kids $10 for the entire day!!!

  18. So let's take a further examination at this ... Just did some digging ... From what I'm hearing, Wabash is playing better the last few weeks of the season and finished 5th in the TRC. Wabash has a solid defense. Pretty strong up front and have speed on the edges. Not a sissy defense and yards may be hard to get if LaVille's offense is too predictable. Wabash will look to spread LaVille's defense out. They have a pretty solid OL and some skilled players. If Wabash can catch LaVille napping on 'D' they could get in the end zone. Last week, the Kelscheimer young man rushed for over 200 yards against Whitko has 988 yards and 11 trips to the end zone on the year according to Maxpreps. QB Payton Sodervick has thrown for 996 yards this season and 9 TDs against 6 picks, according to Maxpreps. WR Bryant Boggs has almost 700 yards receiving and 8 scores. Wabash is 1-3 against teams with a winning record ... lost to 9-0 southwood, beat 5-4 Alexandria by 2 points, got beat by 5-4 Northfield, and beat by 7-2 Maconaquah. LaVille is 1-2 against teams with a winning record ... beat Culver Community 13-8 last week, lost 36-14 to Pioneer with four chances to score, had a turnover at the goal line and lost the ball on downs three other times, lost to 13-3, and flat struggled to move the ball. LaVille wants to run the ball .... have a variety of backs, but tends to be too predictable. Doyle is a capable QB. Has 6 TD passes and 5 INTs according to Max. He has been seen trying to force the ball at times, but give the kid his dues, he is NOT afraid to run the ball and not afraid to run somebody over. According to Maxpreps, Watts is the workhorse with almost 100 carries, about 650 yards and 8 TDs. Dill, Pope, and Doyle are the other backfield threats according to Maxpreps with the next highest yardage totals. Looks like Doyle's go-to man is Dill with over 20 catches and 3 scores. Both teams have speed and big-play guys if somebody doesn't pay attention. Wabash has scored 77 points in the last three games, while LaVille has scored 54. Dr. John Harrell says LaVille 35, Wabash 14. Wabash is 4-0 when they score 20 points. LaVille is 4-0 when they score 27 points, but have won three straight because of its defense. I just think LaVille has a few more weapons and a better 'D' overall. Gut says low-scoring game, but ..... as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  21. For me that's not an argument against all in. It's an incompetent state high school athletic association allowing it to happen and an unethical coach.

  22. Not if the big dogs would be scattered across four divisions. Look at Illinois. They just pulled off a huge upset. How many people saw that coming? On any given weekend, anyone can beat anyone. Look at where Minnesota is right now. It can be done. Programs have to figure out ways to get better. If they don't, then they apparently are just accepting their "fate". Every conference has teams that are not the top of the heap. If the landscape changes in college football by going to super conferences, then I'd hate to see the B1G get left behind. IU is on the verge of maybe getting on the track to the top. Not saying it's this year, but Allen has them going in the right direction. There are only so many coaches to go around. Not everyone is going to hire a Nick Saban or an Urban Myer or even find one. There just aren't that many. That's why I think Allen is the right guy now for IU. It's taken a long while, but I think he's the man. I had hopes with Hep (rest in peace) but we know the sad events that didn't allow him to continue.

  23. I still agree with the playoff format similar to Texas and or California. 10 game regular season then depending on success or lack there of you move on or are done. It is sad that Michigan is setup that way and they have a coach or coaches who circumvent the situation. Those coaches and schools should be fired and or fined for lack of ethics.

  24. Have the GID admins ever considered a “membership drive?” We all know lots of high school, college, and pro football fans. If everyone signed up here could get just one other person to join, we’d be in the tall cotton in terms of funds. This is the most exciting time of year for HS football, and the college football playoff extravaganza is about to start (the first FCS rankings come out Nov. 5). This would be prime recruiting time.

  25. I’m on record as advocating ND for full membership in the ACC, but I’d be content to see them in the B1G. I just want them in a Power 5 conference so, when the time comes, they can have a conference championship game on their resume for playoff qualifying purposes. The problem is that the B1G plays 9 conference games (plus the conference championship game). If they expand to 16, they’re certainly not going to play fewer. That leaves 3 non-conference games which, for the Irish, means they only get 1 “discretionary” game, since they will always play Navy and USC. Because of their academic restrictions, ND needs to have a truly national recruiting base. Historically, they have filled this need by playing games around the country, to show the flag on a national basis. So, unless the B1G eliminates “crossover” games between East and West, it would be very difficult.

  27. But if we're talking "super" conferences and football, I'd add Oklahoma and Texas. Kansas is a football doormat and K State only shows up every few years. The B1G added Rutgers and Maryland for the audience and some recruiting. They aren't Midwest and neither is Penn State for that matter. Adding Texas and Oklahoma would do wonders for the recruiting not to mention strengthening the conference. In a super conference, there will usually be a couple who aren't going to fit the mold of what may be considered a geographic "culture". Notre Dame was offered to join and refused for whatever reasons. Missouri might be a consideration to fit the "Midwest" flavor, but they are up and down. And I disagree the B1G doesn't need another historical power. If it's going to be 4 super conferences, then YES they need another one (or two) power programs. So are we just supposed to sit back and let the SEC continue to win everything in football? That wouldn't be too smart would it? If I have the chance to add a Texas or an Oklahoma, I'm in. Why let them walk away to one of the other conferences and lose out? Kansas for basketball? Let them go to the ACC. Clemson football could use another cupcake on their schedule.

  29. @MarshallCounty are you any closer to making a decision on the purchase of an endzone camera? I'm very excited about how much you will love your purchase!

  30. Texas is very appealing, but will they give up their own channel for the BTN?

  31. My Dad and I went to a game at Reitz Field a long time ago...or was is Central.. or was in Enlow... dang that was a long time back. He played football at Evansville as a Proud Purple Ace.. he said they played their home games on several different fields... I think I saw the southridge-mater dei game online at the Reitz bowl...

  32. Two other points: - NorthWood lost to Jimtown by 4, to Concord by 3, and to Warsaw by 1 that season. One possession games that they could have easily ended up with a 6-3 regular season record. - NLC was pretty solid that season. Concord finished 9-4 and was a 4A sectional champion that beat an 8-2 Wawasee team in the sectional semifinals and then an undefeated 11-0 Plymouth team in the sectional championship.

  34. You are guys are making different arguments. He's not saying the calls were right or wrong. He's saying that just because a team had more fouls in one game compared to another or they had more fouls than their opponent that the officiating was bad. You may be right that the calls were wrong, but they should be judged on the calls themselves and not by number.

  35. All great ideas. I don't see the Domers in the B1G, though. I'd take Mizzou in a heartbeat who has no business in the SEC, just like WV in the Big 12, but I don't want those dummies...

  38. Delta kicker has hit from 60 in practice with a normal kicking situation 🤷🏼‍♂️. Deltas locker room isn’t much closer than the visitors and has no view of the scoreboard, sometimes you have to keep track of the time from a coach. If I recall eastbrook you can’t see it from the locker room so must be why eastbrook won against them this year?

  39. I always thought this was one of the coolest stats that you can surmise in the State Championship program on Thanksgiving weekend. You get to see all of the other stats like yards, points, etc., but I always thought this was the coolest. Not sure of the details surrounding that season for Northwood, but it seems to be one of those storylines that should continually get a nod right about this time, start of sectionals, each year.

  40. And let's not forget Luers won 4 in a row from 2009 - 2012. Warren Central won their 4 titles from 2003 - 2006. LCC is just the most recent program to do it.

  42. Stinky, Stink, Stink 1.2.3. Sectional 31 is no joke especially if the crew must travel to Spin City. Clowns Breakdown goes like this: Spin City vs Days of The New Pirates - Some may be automatically be looking past this game....but no so fast my friends! The Hawk mobile will have those pirates ready and they will definitely have the best player on the bermuda. This was a close match-up in week #2, plus from what I head, the "dude" from C-Town got hurt. So don't lay all the "chips" on the table just yet npatman (I know you said assuming)......Stink will go out on a limb on this one. My only reasoning is The Crew really can't afford a trip to Spin City again. Last time got picked up in Seymour after that major comeback win in 2005.....WE WERE LIT!!!!! Before moving on here is a fun fact. Since 1994 Reed May has faced Stink Town 7 times. Record......2-5 (Stink Town may be the only ones to hold an advantage like that over the Spin City Legend.) Here it is...Final Prediction...... Days of the New Pirates 21 - Spin City 13 Other Games: Stink Town -35 Casket Nation -10 Jo Joe's - 6.5

  44. So a lot of the members on here might not realize. After this week traffic on this wonderful forum is cut down immensely as football seasons end for half of the state. We are just $658.99 away from having another free year of the Gridiron Digest. Now is the time for the final push. We just need 67 of our peers to donate $10.00, but the GID will accept any donation. Come up with a creative number, One poster donated the number of points his team scored on a rival, someone else donated in honor of a high school football fan that is no longer with them. If you donate $25.00 or more you won't have to deal with pesky ads invading your football information space. If you are in a thread that doesn't have a lot of donors make a quick plea to donate, it's simple, safe, and secure! I will keep an running total as we get more donations in the title. Let's reach the goal of $3000.00 before Friday night's kick offs!
