  1. Princeton is playing for a sectional championship while Gibson is putting up equipment? That fact alone is enough proof to tell me the current postseason format is ridiculous.

  2. Before the Guerin/West Lafayette game fades out of everyone’s attention in light of the upcoming Sectional Championship, I want to give kudos to Tom Dilley and the kids at Guerin. I watched the game last night and it seemed like Guerin executed their game plan almost to perfection but still fell short. I really can’t say enough about how disciplined they were as to following Dilley’s plan. Guerin generally controlled the clock and was able to limit WL’s number of possessions. They also ran the ball very effectively - particularly in the first half but needed to take to the air later with good result (although WL always had heavy pressure on the Guerin QB). WL, when they had the ball, would take great gouts of yardage at times seeming to cover 70-80 yards in 3-5 plays. Guerin got a few stops but I remember when WL punted in the first half a commentator saying it was only the 8th time WL had had to punt all year. Only the 8th punt for WL all year!?! If accurate, that is insane. My sense is that the difference was special teams. Guerin mystifyingly seemed to give WL short field opportunities by design. Particularly near the end of the 2nd Quarter after Guerin scored late to take the lead, they kicked short to WL who only needed to cover less than half the field to score in the last 1:40. WL ended up scoring and went into the locker room with a lead following a half that Guerin largely controlled. In the 3rd Quarter (I believe) Guerin gives up the Kickoff return TD. Guerin also missed an extra point. Could be wrong but I really think Guerin wins last night if their special teams’ play matches (or comes close to matching) that of WL. I could go on about WL but figure we’ll be talking about them all week. I just wanted to give Guerin credit for the truly great game they played before we move on. For any fans of the game it was streaming free last night if you want to watch it.

  4. Congratulations to HH! It was a great game and great atmosphere. It's a shame that either team had to lose. I wish HH and SR the best of luck the rest of the way.

  7. One thing about the game last night....So many kids from both teams made such great individual plays!! Such great kids on both sides! Was simply amazed by them all!!

  9. The game last night was one of the best I’ve seen in my life! GS was nearly flawless and HH looked stunned after a couple of plays that didn’t go their way. But resilience and grit by the Pats in the end pulled out the W!! Hats off to GS. Another great season. Spoke with one of my very good friends, who is a Titan, last night after the game and told him neither team needed to go home after last night!! It’s a shame matchups like that happen this early in the playoffs!!

  10. Other than maybe Westfield dominating Fishers, I don't see any upsets or even surprises in 6A.

  11. LaVille is a very good team and has gotten better as the season has gone. I would expect nothing less than a very competitive football game. Kings need to be ready for Laville. Playing for Championships from here on out. Who wants it?

  12. MD is solid most every year and they play a great schedule most every year as well BUT when they beat Central just a few weeks ago, It raised them several more levels in my opinion. Since then, I have had them playing Webo for a trip to LOS.

  13. No. If the kickers are first to touch a kick beyond the neutral zone, that is referred to as “first touching.” This gives the receiving team the right to take the ball at that spot after the play is over ... unless a bunch of other things happen that didn’t happen here. But the ball remains alive after first touching.

  14. Any kick that breaks the plane of the goal line is a touchback. Doesn’t matter who touched it or where. No exceptions. And a kick remains a kick until it is possessed or becomes dead by rule, e.g., out of bounds. Saw the video. Correctly ruled a touchback.

  15. Oh wow...I didn’t know it was that many guys for HH. That’s absolutely insane. well I wish you guys the best and for you guys to send this class out on top.

  16. HC dropped three last night including Western's squeaker to Lebanon. Three are still in it with a fourth pending tonight's outcome between LCC and Clinton Prairie. Not too bad a place to be with four teams possibly playing for a sectional title next week. And the good news is there will be no need for HC-on-HC violence to possibly pull four sectional titles. Also, still a chance for the HC to put up three classes' worth of representation at LOS Thanksgiving weekend.

  17. Ball is dead on any kick in high school the moment it crosses the goal line. It would be a touch back. GS ball on their 20 if there was time left.

  20. Thank you for recognizing that 😀 I’m sure someone will get an earful before next Friday night. Nikirk is a great young man. Has a great arm. He be playing baseball in college. Two of my favorite moments from this season were Nikirk (Dalton) throwing TD pass to Nikirk (Dylan) his brother who is a Freshman. This team had the worst loss a team could have at home to Madison on homecoming night and could have folded but they overcame inexperience and a ton of injuries (season ending) to continue to improve and finish with their heads held high. Coach Weber and his staff are absolutely incredible and as long as they stay the course and continue to coach at BNL the fruits of their labor is right around the corner.

  22. People forget how good the 1997 Homestead team was. They went toe to toe with what I consider to be one of Snider's top 5 teams of all time. Obviously they were good in 1998. They had a great team in 2002. They lost to a Snider team that went on to the state finals. If Snider didn't have two weeks to prepare for that game, I think Homestead would have been the one playing Ben Davis that year. Conclusion: Homestead 2019, with a healthy Hardwick, might be able to compete with the teams mentioned above. Time will tell.

  25. We had a great day at Purdue as we took over 80 kids to Purdue game today from our Middle and High School Football team and school band. Tailgating on Slater, some Purdue Pete time and a thrilling finish, with a bonus of Drew Brees!!

  26. Snider gets man handled by Carroll (FW). That is a surprise in the Northeast. Carroll could beat Homestead next.

  27. Several . . . . . . . . . Man I was in the single digit years of age at that time . I glanced at the courier press article today and they let jim girdillo from the ht write the article. He calls it castles miracle in bloomington. Which is not really even close to the miracle south pulled off over nationally ranked castle in 83 , riding a 20 some odd game win streak . Just saying castles win last night was good but . . . . . . .. .

  29. My understanding is that Chris is indeed done. Coach Jochim told Todd he would let him know a year before he would hang it up, my understanding is that Jochim has NOT put Todd on notice. So Chris out, Jochim stays. I guess we will know after the season is over....

  30. Possibly, south put it on e north so their w wasnt that shabby either . Beating Bhsn was great but I mean bhsn lost to a bad roncalli team and ths who south trounced. So even though bhsn had a real good season I think a lot of people were getting ahead of themselves thinking b north was due for a big tourney run after basically having losing seasons for the last several years . Castle had a freshman QB last night . If we found out anything it was that castle doesn't have a kicking game to speak about. Wish I could make it down this year but I wont be able too. I went to the 2015 and 2016 games between these teams . Should be great hope there is a webstream by someone

  31. The intangibles favor Castle, but through my biased lenses, I think South is the better team, and Thiery will be the difference in the game.

  33. As a Miner fan I wasn't surprised myself. And thats OK. We just moved to 2A a couple of years ago. Gotta play bigger teams better players. Im PROUD of my Miners! Even though we got blown out and we did its a learning experience as well. Two top teams in the State going at in a Semifinal; game somebody is gonna lose. EMD was the better team no doubt. Im sure this experience will resonate next year! Go EMD and take the South! Go Miners!

  35. There was a good article about how he does his operations last year (https://www.courierpress.com/story/sports/high-school/2018/06/22/john-harrell-still-enjoys-running-site-high-school-sports-junkies/725863002/). One computer, one man... Prior to Twitter, a lot of sports editors and journalists across the state would send their scores. I think his son is now involved too. He occassionally still visits the Herald-Times to do some computer programming for the sports department (even in the early 1990s, he was automating much of the Agate (Scoreboard) Page and box scores layout with some (relatively) simple find and replace features. Similiar to HTML, the software that formats newspapers is a "markup" computer programming language. The H-T, one of my former employers, still publishes complete scores for high school and college basketball up to the last minutes before going to press (11 p.m. Eastern time). I picked up the IndyStar and half of the scores were marked as "late"... The H-T still does a good job of publishing all local and area box scores for all HS sports... Something other papers, like the IndyStar, are no longer doing. Jeff Sagarin and John Harrell should have scholarships named after them by the IHSAA, in my opinion.

  36. Thanks for clarification. So when the ball crosses the line of scrimmage, it's like a punt, right? If Kicking team touches it first but doesn't down it, then it's a live ball & the Receiving team can advance the ball. But the main takeaway is that the Receiving team will get ossession.

  37. It was actually closer than that. Penn stopped Portage at the 6” line on 4th down with less than a minute left in the 4th ... or we might be having this conversation in the “Upsets” thread.

  41. The visitor side used to be the home side but they switched when bigger bleachers were put in. They moved the home fans over there so that we could finally avoid the sun being in our eyes in the early season games. Four decades of the sun in our eyes sucked.

  45. Thanks Irishman. Most appreciated my man! Been fortunate to have so much support in all of this. No man is an island as the saying goes. Always have enjoyed our posting back and forth on here over the years. Believe it or not, 4 years ago when I was going through a really rough time, the GID was kind of like therapy for me. It gave me an outlet to take my mind off things. Most people will never know how much it helped.
