Some other ideas. - PP teams play with 10 players and lose one more with every state title they win. - PP teams must have at least one biologically female student on the offensive line - Make PP receivers wear jerseys made of varying amounts of lead...the more they win, the more weight...ya know, like they do horses - PP teams have at least one starter be an alum from the previous decade. Each regional win, go one decade farther back. Shoot that gap, pops! Whaddaya mean your knees hurt?!? - PP teams, no buses. Pack lightly and get walking early. You know, being from the southwestern part of the state, we could probably make the case that Indy area teams have certain advantages. Media exposure, money, etc. I would imagine rural area teams might say the same about an opposing team from any larger city or town. But it would never occur to me to suggest monkeying with the rules to try to counter these supposed advantages. You know what makes a “level playing field” for two teams taking the gridiron? The rules of football do. Go play the game and do your level best within those rules. And, for God’s sake, don’t try to change the rules to give yourself an advantage if you aren’t successful in doing that.

If true and home teams are allowed to pull this crap regarding naming these early start times for Saturday games, then the IHSAA needs to intervene. It’s total BS. None of these long distance Saturday games should ever be before 3:00 unless both schools agree. It should already be enough that the home team is...well.....at home. Makes me think this whole neutral site thing for Regionals and Semistates might be the way to go.

Pioneer is starting to look like a 6A program. They beat 6A Chesterton, and beat an Andrean team that, according to the OP, should be playing in 4A. 😁

Some years back, Coach Gallogly (good guy) and I spent some time debating after the initiation of the Success Factor. I, frankly, took the position that we should just bump every P/P up a class and be done with it because we would end up having the same arguments in 5-6 years anyway. With all that, I kind of think the Success Factor is working. I actually enjoy seeing what the Success Factor has generated in the way of matchups (admittedly, my enjoyment as a fan is irrelevant). Still, I don’t think it’s fair to the classes that follow the successful classes ahead of them. Insofar as publics go, Columbus East and New Pal were able to sustain that success through several multiple student classes but eventually it will catch up with you and one group of kids is going to find themselves well beyond their ability to enjoy playoff success.....and that bothers me more than a little. To an extent, I’m not sure this discussion is even happening now if Cathedral was not having a possibly historically great team this year...maybe next year as well. Nonetheless, I’ve been pretty open about saying I’ve wanted Chatard to play in 4A for years....at least before it was hollowed out. For now, though, I am thinking the Success Factor comes closest to fairness...particularly with some of the point adjustments to staying up. But I’m not so sure the automatic class bump is fair for everyone else....I sure as heck don’t think a 2.0 multiplier is.

Having been a team that's seen Pioneer over and over and over again they need more than a little credit. What I'm actually interested in is seeing how things are going to spin in another thread where someone claimed that Andrean should be playing 4A by default ... especially given that they were beaten by a 2A team that was actually visiting 2A for a bit from 1A. Should be fun next year as LCC goes up to 2A and I believe that Pioneer stays up in 2A, so those two may get a chance to meet up again just in a different "neighborhood."

I think we both know that DT believes the things he writes just as often as crocodiles shed actual heartfelt tears. The idea that we can project any long term effect on Indiana HS football/sports based on the pandemic is more than ludicrous. We can’t possibly know if or what it might be.....even if it will be any more than a temporary effect at all. The further supposition that the 2.0 multiplier is somehow a “cure” for this “kind of/maybe/potentially” possible pandemic based long term effect on HS sports is insane. It is, quite literally, snake oil. The worst part of his whole premise is that it’s insincere.

I think it’s time to entertain a discussion on how Tom Allen and staff coach up 3 star players. I’d guess 8-10 are performing at the 4 star level.

Southern Indiana is also part of the great state of Indiana. Why give the central area all the gravey? when a team earns the home field, more power to them. And the community that surrounds them.

To be clear, I’m not declaring any team an innocent or a sinner (seems teams have both been both victim and victimizer) as regards this sort of thing.....I’m just saying it shouldn’t be permitted to happen. There should be a default game time of 3:00 pm or later on a Saturday playoff that has been rescheduled from Friday due to prohibitive travel/distance unless BOTH teams agree with an earlier game time. Easy peasy for the IHSAA to do it if folks can’t be sensible themselves.

Pioneer is an awesome feel good story and seems to be the public school exception to the multiplier. One week after taking down big bad Andrean, they get Luers. They've gained a fan.

This has been covered many times over the years. The parochial schools do not limit their enrollments. They have placement exams, not enrollment exams. None of the four are close to full, which means staffs have to be cut. Shockingly, football classifications do not drive or even figure into their conversations. There are other advantages, but limiting enrollment is not one that Roncalli, Chatard, Scecina, or Ritter have the luxury of employing.

Open enrollment has changed things but it does cost to go to a public school if you live outside of the district. Perry Township charges $4400 for out of district students. I live in Perry Township and I receive 2-3 pieces of mail a month from other public school districts (CG and BG). Beech Grove actively recruits and charges over $4000 for out of district. There is also a big difference between parochial and private! Parochial schools do have districts (deaneries). Chatard, Ritter, Scecina and Roncalli are parochial schools with defined borders. By written agreement, schools do not recruit outside of their districts In my opinion, CYO feeder program is the biggest advantage for Catholic schools. It is not that CYO competition is better, it is that there are so many more teams. Perry Meridian and Southport each have one middle school with one MS football team. They develop 15-20 starters that will enter the HS each year. There are 9 middle schools feeding Roncalli, 9 middle schools feeding Chatard, 4 middle schools feeding Scecina, and 5 middle schools feeding Ritter. In years past, there were anywhere from 10-15 middle school football teams feeding Roncalli each year. That number is now 6-8 but that means that there are 6-8 experienced players developed at each position. The shear numbers of experienced players entering each freshman class is an advantage. Brebeuf and Cathedral are private schools (not parochial) with no districts. BTW, Roncalli huge OL are all underclassman, sophomores with a one first year junior.

I know that there is a Girls BBall tournament this coming weekend which may be why Webo asked for a 1:00 pm Eastern Time (Noon Central). We played Southridge 2 years ago at Semi State at the same time I believe. I wont pretend to have any other insight as to what the coaches/ADs have discussed. I dont believe there is any intent of “gamesmanship” or trying to be “unsportsman like”.

I would agree. Similarly, I think folks are getting ahead of themselves if they are saying that Roncalli should be in 6A due to a victory over MV. Roncalli beat 5A Harrison earlier this season by 4 points and Harrison finished 6-4 this year. Pretty solid given the competition, but would not be part of the grouping for propelling Roncalli into a 6A position.

I can name you kids who went through LCC's feeder program only to end up at Lafayette Jeff, McCutcheon, West Lafayette, Harrison, Frontier, and Benton Central. I can also name you a kid who went through Harrison's feeder program who ended up at Lafayette Jeff and then ended up at Valpo. I can name you another one who went through Benton Central's feeder program who ended up at West Lafayette and a kid who was at West Lafayette who then jumped across the river to go to Jeff and didn't even have to wait a year to play. Another one who left McCutcheon to end up over at Harrison. In the last ten years, Indiana's open enrollment environment has taken away lots of these arguments for "someone started at X and ended up at Y." About the only folks who tend to be constrained tend to be Indy Catholic schools that have feeders based on parishes and the kid who thinks about jumping parishes for high school is likely to be excommunicated.

They were missing QB1 for sure. They had some guys banged up, but the Giants jumped on them early minus the kickoff return.

Sagarin & Harrel's both had Heritage Christian as the favorite over WeBo and that did not turn out so well. While it is nice to be favored, MD will have to earn this on the field. I tried to view some of the film from last night's game btwn WeBo & HR but internet is wonky today. WeBo stats show a strong running game and stout D. MD will certainly have it's hands full this week. I will wait a few days to see likely weather & game time before concocting some Wildcat Homer-ish argument to justify why I think MD will win. Fingers crossed, rabbit's foot in hand...

Well, I’d sooner support that than I would all this athletic welfare nonsense. I always liked single-class sports - basketball, in particular. I miss that tournament. And it was awesome when a small school beat a big school. But the general notion here is: if you can’t beat ‘em, rig the rules against ‘em.

This hegemony talk is 5-6 years in the making, have to realize that. Cathedral is going for its first state title in 6 years and you better believe the drubbings Cathedral took at the hands of public’s 2 of the last 3 years were conveniently forgotten.

I just told you what I saw firsthand. Better than any of the drivel you spout. You didn't even watch the game you predicted as the upset of the decade. In fact, I doubt you watch much football at all.

As an Andrean fan and former player, I completely agree. Team played terribly and had a terrible game plan. Seemingly refusing to take advantage of outside matchups early, instead continuously running straight into a 7-man box. Offensive line play embarrassing. Horrible turnovers and penalties. Defense seemingly hadn’t watched a snap of Pioneer offensive film. To say that they didn’t deserve to win is an understatement. Worst part of this loss is that the team will not be anywhere near as good the next few years. Squandered the best team they’ve had in about 6 years, and most likely for another 6 years. Things won’t change at this program until the school hires an actual football coach and doesn’t just make some alumni who played football there and teaches biology the football coach because they don’t want to pay another person. Unfortunately with the nepotism and cheapness at this school I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s coach for life. They better hope that the relocation actually works out or I genuinely feel this will be the last time in a long time that Andrean is mentioned as a top team in the class they play in. End of rant but I’m disgusted.

If it gives kids and schools that can't play football an opportunity to do so, who cares how many points they score? I am all for it.

I would like to point out that some of our smaller schools do have trouble getting the numbers for traditional football. Why is this so bad? It gives these smaller schools a chance to compete for something if this is also given a state tournament and doesn't allow @DTto use that dirty C word.... Contraction.
