Off topic but I thought the MIC was the old dude who trained Rocky.

Again, from some inside sources that are very credible, CG and Carmel originally reached out to the MIC schools in hopes to combine with the HCC. This would have made a mega conference. MIC did not want that. So to me, the BS about the academics and everything else was just something for them to fall back on. However, I have also heard that a decent amount of the HCC schools want NO part in allowing CG and Carmel in. It will definitely be interesting how this all shakes out in a couple of weeks. Cg and Carmel may have to start persuading teams into creating a new conference...

There will be some (mostly people with vested interest in the remaining 6 MIC schools). Far more others will see beyond the BS like "academics vs athletics" when it concerns Center Grove and Carmel. I would bet that IDOE would agree that Center Grove along with Carmel were tops in the MIC in academics along with North Central. Which is why many will see right through the nifty PR public statement. You don't speak for people on the outside, only for yourself. Not all people on the outside view it the same as you do "Throw darts at the wall and see if it sticks, 90% of the time the dart doesn't even hit the target". The "folks" behind the MIC public statement used what they could PR department to save face and try to make themselves look good. There are likely several that see right through the BS PR statement. You're not one of them (talk about myopic). Race was an easy PR move to save face with recent events. It is obvious this was a possible move by Center Grove and Carmel Looooong before the shooting and the blackface. Heck even you have been bringing up gate revenue dating back several years.

Common sense says that it's an extra-curricular activity for kids and if there's enough kids wanting to play it, and the school is willing to sponsor it, who are you to suggest they shouldn't have that opportunity?

I think there'd still be a fair amount of teams that would play that would have played in conference anyway and if you had a rivalry from a conference, you could keep it if they weren't in your district. Indiana could still do districts and not do all in.

A new alignment would probably take place at the next executive meeting. I feel that all State champions should bump up a class and go by enrollment with the rest. Just my opinion.

Avon is planning on breaking ground in late 2022 or early 2023 on the new Easton Grey development, a mixed use community along the White Lick greenway. Along with high-end apartments and townhomes, there will be approx. 850 single family homes, ranging in price from $350k - $750k and up. This will be the long sought "downtown" Avon has been missing. Not all of those families will send their kids to Avon schools, but those that do will only help the F/R/L percentage. I know parents that sought out Avon schools because of their commitment to inclusion. Avon's high graduation rate does not fit in with Marion County school systems. In summary, Avon has no interest in leaving the HCC. And yes, Avon has fielded state level competitive teams in track, wrestling, soccer, volleyball, football, softball, etc. The thing about Carmel is this.... they are going to dominate everyone in swimming, tennis, cross country. Every other sport will be cyclical but they will be top 5 in most. They will be a great challenge to HCC athletics to raise the bar.

I believe that there is a tradition that exists in Pike county around playing football at Pike Central and it's multigenerational. You can be passionate about a sport without large successes.....that hardly makes one a zealot.

Why should an award for the top player in Indiana have anything to do with if they choose to play college football in Indiana or not? Lots of factors these young men look into (and it doesn't always involve football, can also involve academics, Major choices, family history). So basically your saying we should for go giving Mr. Football to a player that elects to play at a high academic University that is successful in football for someone with less talent that decided to go to Purdue, Indiana, Ball State who have not had the same success and may not (depending on the College) be as prestigious. Doesn't make sense. That is like saying a College player shouldn't get the Heisman if they were to get drafted by the Steelers, Patriots, 49ers, or Cowboys. Should only get that award if they go to the Lions.

Hasn't Florida always been this way in our lifetimes without too much major fallout except the Charlie Pell era (who first built Clemson that way for a championship under Danny Ford). Who is not to say that this was status quo also when Dickey brought in Spurrier and then was AD at Tennessee. There has been talk over a lot of years that the old SWC had nothing on the SEC.

I hope this is the case - along with success factor bumps. The IHSAA gets many things right. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how they seem to overcomplicate the classification/sectional assignment process. I would think a computer algorithm to minimize travel distances between schools is a senior level Computer Science project.

I can attest for Pike that 4, 5, and 7 are not relevant. Administrative support is very present as is the community support. 7 is a direct result of 3 or vice versa. Our current coach is working his tail off to fix the issues that do exist. Numbers were higher than in years past this year. We had a small senior class, but a large freshman class. I cannot speak to what is coming up from the middle school though.

I don’t have the time at the moment, but I am curious to see what the numbers from last season would say IF the divisions had been North and South like Tempt suggests here. I know some of the matchups did not happen based on the schedule, but maybe look over the course of a 2-3 years. But it does appear the recruiting numbers balance out more. Perspective can be a funny thing. If you root for a team in the East, you likely have no issues in the realignment. If you root for a team in the West, it gets a lot tougher. As an IU fan, injuries and depth hurt them. But the way the schedule set up, it was a bear of a schedule. Penn State, Michigan State, ohio state, and Michigan is a really tough stretch to get through. I will add it is made even more difficult when each of those teams is a factor in the National rankings and potential playoff spot at the time IU played each of them. I will add, there is the eye test. The East was just better. osu has been a consistent contender, and Michigan was just that much better this season.

This is where I disagree. I can understand them joining the MIC as long as football is independent. Even a weaker MIC in football is still a huge jump in competition for Columbus North. Look at all the years they’ve lost to Center Grove in sectionals. Some of those CG teams weren’t all that great in relation to the last couple years or in terms of where they finished in the conference at the time. You are correct in your statement that Columbus North isn’t thrilled about Conference Indiana’s instability. They’ve tried bringing in Columbus East and other schools in the past few years to help stabilize it only to be turned down. If an opportunity presents itself, I could definitely see them bolting. In regards to travel, the ride to Bloomington is not a burden for Columbus North. First of all, it’s not that far. Secondly, the Columbus North vs Bloomington South rivalry goes all the way back to when they were the sole high schools of their cities. North has no problem playing Bloomington South or even Bloomington North for that matter. Also, I’m not suggesting Bless is afraid of playing teams solely because they’re good. I think it’s a combination of how good they are plus the depth those schools have. That’s the safety concerns he’s referring to. While North may have the depth to fill in some injury holes against schools of similar or lesser size, there’s a much larger talent disparity between their reserves and those of a large school like Ben Davis or Warren Central. To play schools of that size on a consistent basis will beat you up and deplete you. Unlike Fort Wayne Luers up in the SAC, there is no upside for North in playing schools like that when it doesn’t prepare them for the postseason. It only leaves them banged up for the already brutal 6A state tournament. So if you can’t win a 6A sectional then the only reward to a season is a conference title. And, as I already stated, that isn’t happening in the MIC due to the sizes of the schools and roster depth of their teams. Personally, I feel one of three options is going to happen for North. Option 1, they’ll apply to join the Mid-State Conference if an opening pops up. Option 2, they go independent in football. A high profile school with the athletic success they have shouldn’t be hindered from finding eight opponents annually for their schedule. Option 3, they ride it out with Conference Indiana until a dissolution or further contraction forces them to move on.

Tech is a joke. They are an average football team in a weak NCC. Boys Basketball is going to get busted for undue influence. They can barely field varsity teams in most sports, and their enrollment continues to plummet (2608 in 2018 to 2089 in 2020). Every few years IPS “reorganizes” and tries to push enrollment at Tech back up, but it never lasts. NCC administrators have discussed removing them from the conference on more than one occasion in the last few years. Maybe that opens the door for them to go to the MIC, but they will not be competitive in anything but boys basketball. Once the AAU coach gets canned or moves on they will have a tough time competing in basketball also. I could see Southport joining the MIC. I don’t think Franklin Central would go back but they might if Carmel and Center Grove join the HCC. Avon switching to the MIC might make some sense if the Orioles think they can find more wins by making the jump. Maybe the MIC considers Cathedral and goes with a 7 team league. Cathedral could be open to that with a 6 game conference schedule for football, which leaves open 3 games for Chatard, Roncalli, and a Cincinnati Catholic school (or Center Grove). I would be interested in a 12 team HCC. I mentioned this in a related topic recently: HCC North: Carmel, Fishers, HSE, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville HCC South: Avon, Brownsburg, Center Grove, Columbus North, Franklin Central, Southport 5 games against division opponents, and a crossover game in week 9 for 6 conference games total. No need to play more since these teams will likely play in the postseason anyway. That leaves 3 non-conference games just like you would have in a 7 team MIC with Cathedral.

I don't know about no credibility, but yes, lost a ton of credibility. And yes it's total BS to claim that the MIC isn't athletically motivated. It's an athletic conference for crying out loud, it's why it exists. The MIC didn't want to get caught with their pants at their ankles when Carmel and CG inevitably bolted, so they acted and dressed up a bunch of BS to dance around the fact that Carmel and Center Grove were no longer being challenged athletically in their current conference. I don't want to hear this was an academic move either because Carmel and Center Grove (along with North Central) are by far and away the best academic schools in the MIC.

I have no issue with girls playing “boys” sports….especially if they don’t have any alternative. I do have an issue with the opposite, btw…..which, somewhat insanely and beyond all common sense, seems to put me opposed to the NCAA, the IOC and some others who, apparently, run things these days. I admit that am a well-known troglodyte (from proud truck driving redneck stock) but I kind of get a “kick” out of female kickers. See what I did there? Yeah….pretty sad on my part. Never thought I would’ve said this 10 years ago but I feel like Carmel and Center Grove are in a position where they need the HCC more than it needs them…especially CG.

I'll throw Joe Kutch from North Central (Farmersburg) out there for some recognition. 1st year coach whose team battled through injuries early on and then had multiple covid cases (including himself). His team came together and came on very strong at the end of the year to win 3 tough games in the sectional to bring home the championship.

Question 7 We have unfortunately seen many game cancellations over the past few seasons, some related to Covid and many others due to low roster numbers. Small rosters create major problems for coaches and ADs as they negatively impact the ability to conduct a full practice, put student athletes into compromising positions relative to the potential for significant injury, and contribute to a very non competitive environment where schools might be playing each other with huge roster disparities. Would you support an IHSAA mandated Minimum Participation Standard, where the IHSAA sets minimum acceptable roster numbers by class. If a school cannot meet the MPS, it must sit out varsity play for two seasons and either drop its program or rebuild its numbers. Response I would never support this. I would have paid money to see the reaction on Coach's face when asked this question.

ND can't get Michigan and Purdue routinely on the schedule anymore, but can include Ohio State, Marshall, UNLV and Cal?? I guess I just miss the old days. Also used to love ND playing Penn State and Pitt routinely. Got the classic photo hanging in my basement of ND vs Penn State, snow coming down, with Rick Mirer and Reggie Brooks. Not knocking the strength...just miss the old rivalries.....
