  1. Hello! Each year the guys at Gridiron DIgest work very hard to make sure that we can chat about Indiana High School Football. We can brag, support our local team(s), trash talk (within reason), and make predictions right here on Gridiron Digest! I am not one of the guys. I am not a paid-promoter. I am just a supporter of what these guys put together for the benefit of us, its loyal contributors. Right now the budget is about $1,200 short of the target for the year. If you have contributed or logged on to read, please consider making a contribution. I have made my contribution. Will you consider joining me in supporting The Gridiron Digest? I know the guys will appreciate your contribution. as always, the game is better from_the_sidelines007

  3. Got me curious and looked up that season. Horrible road loss to Minnesota did them in. Game in which Clifford was knocked out of game. Today, a power 5 team with an even record (enough FBS wins) gets it in a decent $ bowl game. In 1980, 6-5 put a non-traditional power on the sideline for the holidays. The difference between 79 and 80 for IU was one regular season victory, that horrible loss at Minnesota.

  4. Coach Schnur is a good Coach and a good dude. He has taken on a couple of very tough assignments. I think a bunch of kids bailed on Princeton this season.

  6. Coach Simmons is on record that as long as he's head coach he'll continue wanting to play Center Grove and Carmel. He still considers them part of the MIC. He's been vocal.

  9. For those who feel strongly enough that rumors should be allowed on the site, keep in mind a couple things. 1. These standards were the same standards that Tim Adams, the creator of this site had in place. 2. This is HIGH SCHOOL football, not college or pro football where athletes and coaches are paid very well to do what they do. We are talking about kids, teachers, and parents. Posting rumors of those people puts indivi9duals in a spotlight that they do not necessarily deserve. As far injury rumors, every student has a right to privacy. Posting of possible injuries to specific players without their knowing is a significant violation of their right to privacy. This is not the place to break news. If there is a story or a public post from an injured player or a parent of one, or if there is a news story...ok. Feel free to discuss that here. TA actually limited the discussion on coaching rumors; but mostly from the standpoint of coaching jobs. The change came when a parent saw a post on this site about a possible candidate he thought had interviewed. That coach's current employer was informed of it, and called the coach in to discuss it. A coach should NEVER be put in that position because f what is posted on the site. Again, keep in mind the vast majority of coaches are getting paid pennies per hour for the work they do. There are coaches' families to consider in these spots as well. Other rumors about coaches can create problems as well. I would suggest people look up terms like libel and slander. Again, if there is a news story, a public statement from the coach or district about a topic, post away. Perfect example of this is the story about Hammond Morton. No rumors, and it included a link to the story. But the one that was posted that prompted me posting this was a BIG deal. Not sure how it plays out when the dust settles, but it is important for a story of that magnitude to wait for confirmed sources. Typically, if your post starts with " I heard...." think about it before hitting submit. Hopefully that clarifies things even for those who have read the first post here and wondered what was up. In many cases, like the one that led to me posting the reminder is hidden or deleted before many have seen it. As always, if you have a question feel free to send a message. Now, if you feel so strongly that these standards are wrong, you can let us know that as well, and we can work through a solution, agree to disagree, or take other needed/warranted steps.

  10. Again, made me recall that era. Tim was the son of Ben Davis Coach Bob Wilbur whom the older brother of my friend in elementary school played for. Morten Andersen kicked for them and he missed the xp that lost the semistate game to Reitz. Wow. Bob Stephenson played for Reitz btw. Tim was a really good punt returner. Also, 1981 was a big disaster season for Northwestern while they were in that long losing streak and Dennis Green was their coach. Who didn't beat them. Who could forget Babe. The 1982 season was Corso's last and they were better, but, as a familiar IU story, they did not have enough dudes to be above average. And how many above average coaches has IU FB had Corso to now? I liked Mallory a lot. He got enough dudes at times to make some decent teams, but IU did not make enough commitment to fb because it was always about basketball.

  11. Great analysis!! Spot on regarding the loss to Minnesota. I enjoyed going to a number of games during that 2 year span. Clifford was excellent...IU had a safety by the name of Tim Wilbur that was a treat to watch. Really good backs with Lonnie Johnson and Mike Harkrader. Lee Corso's son Steve was a WR on those teams. I looked as well at the 1981 season...only won 3 games....all Big 10 wins over Northwestern, Minnesota and Purdue....by a total margin of only 5 points. Babe Laufenberg became the starting QB and enjoyed a few years in the NFL.

  15. Because the ball is dead when the defense possesses it ... Are the only ways a defense could score in OT *-A safety (which would be incredible, given it would require the loss of 90 yards) *-The offensive team fumbling in its own end zone and the D recovering it (and if that happens, is that a score or a dead ball? I presume it's a touchdown for the defense since they don't ever truly "possess" the ball). Obviously, both would be ridiculously extraordinary situations.

  17. SV was in the WIC already and couldn't hang. Begged and pleaded to come back to the WRC to be the big fish in the small pond. I don't see them giving up their small pond again. When you look at the odds of an SV Sectional Title, especially in football (and basically anything but baseball), it's virtually nonexistent.

  20. Sounds like @Esso Ayche took care of those for you. Donating in your name makes you a Booster now. It's been done before. Win-Win for all.

  21. Anything that gets donated is appreciated; no judging of those who don't from those of us on the admin side. There have been a number of very active people over the years who have not donated. We have even had people promise to pay, or use a donation as a bet and not follow through......no big deal though. Seems that things always work themselves out.

  23. So the argument is that Northwood beat a bunch of 3a schools 17 years ago and so now they are better than WC, got it. makes perfect sense yeah right hudl wouldnt even take the film of a Northwood WC game, you'd have to upload it to Pornhub. Yeah WC doesn't belong in the top 10 even this year, and tbh arguments could be made for Top 20. But this is still the same WC team that played CG within 10 points, a team that very well could make a run for the 6a state title if they weren't going to get clobbered by cathedral on the way. This same WC team played BD relatively close, and beat king, overrated or not they are the only team to have beaten them so far. A win over pike would be an attainable huge achievement for Northwood. Hell Northwood doesn't even have any business in the state title discussion of their own class.

  24. For years, most B1G have been had a big recruiting presence in the Chicago area: Mike Alstott went to Purdue, Antwaan Randle-El went to IU, Chuck Long went to Iowa among many others.

  25. Got a few texts already this morning from my friends down in the river bottoms. I didn’t know my presence on here was so well known. I’m going to try and get a coaching gig again next year so you Panthers better be nice incase Kevin gives me his quarterly bonus of $50k to teach Garmin the old Sheldon/Moore spread trickery. In all seriousness, I respect Bradley for sticking it out. They’ve been bad as long as I can remember. Their time has finally come. They need to put a Hazzard statue up instead of that little covered bridge. His ability to play when not surrounded by much the last few years is what I believe has the ball rolling for their youth and JH teams, special player. I think it would be a good idea for him to take the weekend off and get rested up for the sectional. Bradley agrees after talking to him last night, so that will level the playing field Saturday. Best of luck to all teams. Seeger wins their first WRC title since 2006 and the Moore era?

  26. This is what I keep telling my son; especially if the other team has wheels back there receiving. You just take that other player right out the game without any need for gimmicks. 80 yards is a LONG way to go when you realize the football gods are quite fickle about a team traversing that distance carrying a ball.

  27. I’ve seen both teams, I hope they get to see each other in the regional, as a football fan, this game will be a fun one.

  30. Purdue best defensive player hasn't played since Penn St. Their starting RT career ending Back Injury, their starting Running Back hasn't played in 2 weeks either. Their QB has broken ribs and played last week on the road in the B10 after sitting last week. Agree on Boat Rower schedule being very blah thus far. Purdue's 2 losses to Penn St. and Undefeated #22 Cuse, ( though their reality check is coming soon is my guess) and both within last minutes. I look at the products on the field, just seems like Boilers have tangible and sustainable progress and are not on a roller coaster ride. forgot to mention their QB didn't play which vastly changed their game plan, however, no doubt they did not play their best football but WON the game. Sign of stable program.

  33. On the flip side, that was a pretty big win for Bielema in my opion. He can now go to places Wisconsin has feasted in recruiting, especially Chicagoland, and say what they had is now in Champaign. Curios to see where this goes with Bielema as I think Illinois has long been a gross underachiever.

  35. Never offended my man. Just calling out hypocrisy when I see it. So is Roncalli too low BECAUSE they don't have a passing game? I don't get it. Outraged was probably the wrong term on my part. I mistook your passion for outrage due to the length of your posts which are often cyclical in nature. One moment you are nitpicking every aspect of the rankings, the next you post your own rankings which are eerily similar and the third the rankings don't matter. Which is it? Also, sorry for the personal "attack". I just realized how it might be easy to connect some of the dots on your prior posts after reading the tea leaves on your most recent ones. I understand its a personal issue and no one on here needs to know or is privy to knowing, but you were extremely vague about your family's decision to transfer and then in the posts following that vagueness, you speak negatively about the coaching staff at your family's former school. I am ready to move on and do apologize for the way I have come across. We are all here for the same reason. We love the sport and are passionate. But at the end of the day, we are all human and its just a game played by kids.

  36. How's that visit to UAE working out for you Uncle Joe? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11283503/Biden-OPEC-oil-production-gas-prices.html Saudi Arabia snubs Biden as OPEC CUTS oil production by 2 MILLION barrels a day: Gas prices set to rise HIGHER after White House 'begged middle east nations not to cut output' just five weeks before midterms The cut is OPEC+'s largest since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic It could help Russia keep financing its illegal invasion of Ukraine despite the West's efforts to cut oil and gas as a source of revenue for Putin's war machine The White House was 'having a spasm and panicking' over the potential outcomes of OPEC's decision, an unnamed administration official told CNN Biden aides took victory laps when gas prices fell at a record pace this summer They have been relatively silent on the issue as they start to creep back up Prices at the pump have jumped by 60 cents per gallon in some parts of the US The president told reporters that he 'needs to see the details' of OPEC+'s announcement when asked for reaction on Wednesday National Security Council official John Kirby downplayed the likely effects in an interview on Fox News and said the US needs to be less dependent on foreign oil

  39. I donated again for the lack of donation from @Impartial_Observer Not in the sense of providing him the benefits of being a current booster (ie no ads and a badass new "Booster 2022-23" by his name), but to make up to the GID for the weak justification for NOT donating the past few years. Find a better soapbox, dude.
