No thoughts on the game actually but, before I head out of town for a few weeks, I just wanted to offer another ongoing playground for folks to sh!tpost about their various rings, why Chatard shouldn't be in 3A and anything else having nothing to do with either the game or the thread. They play a 6A equivalent schedule during the regular season so not really sure that argument holds much water. They've lost to the eventual 6A champion in 2/3 years they've played in the 6A tournament.

They'll get right on that after the Sectionals are seeded.

Good to know Carmel is handicapped at 5000+ students for football. Interesting to know the size of their student body doesn't seem to be detrimental with other sports.....sports that require less participation than football.

I don't think putting them up against bigger schools would help them much. Sv has been 2/3A for years, and has barely been able to win against small 1A schools for the most part. Most importantly though is that they always think they are badass!

The 2500 student enrollment figure is absurd unless you are implying that Carmel could lose the worst athletes on campus and be just as good. The reality is your chances of getting high quality players increase with the number of players you have to pick from.

It's not on the decline. As a '71 graduate, going to state in BBL was electric. The whole town was buzzing. Now, they've taken on the Ricky Bobby approach....... "If you ain't 1st you're last". There's no decline. Just a few leaner years on the talent side (and maybe coaching too?) It's happened before and it will happen again.

Ahh...changing the narrative....that is not what you said...you stated your theory that Carmel with 5000+ students is detrimental to football and hoops. I showed you that they had won both basketball and football championships with 5000+ students. If Carmel football and basketball is in decline, it has NOTHING to do with their student enrollment of 5000+.

That was not the 2017 BD team that went 14-0 and won state. In 2016, the Giants lost to Center Grove in the Semi-State. The 2016 team went 9-4. The 2017 Giants were special. They had a challenge in the Sectional against Warren that year which became the 14-0 Warren team that won state in 2018. Other than that and a tough first half against LC also in the Sectional, the 2017 Giants were not touched.

In Cathedral's 3 stints at the 6A level 2015: 2 OT loss to Avon in regional final 2016: Drubbing to eventual 6A champion Ben Davis in the regional who went 15-0 and arguably one of the best 6A teams ever 2022: Semi-state loss to eventual 6A Center Grove, a team they beat earlier in the season. Should be noted Cathedral avenged their only regular season loss to Brownsburg the round prior. Don't think depth has ever been the root of the problem. It certainly wasn't in 2015 and 2022 and nobody in 6A was touching that 2016 Ben Davis team.

Cathedral is evidence to your point. Once they get in the tournament and have to play 6A schools every week their depth becomes an issue. That IMO is why they haven’t been able to finish in 6A.

The bad thing with the rankings is that they are all filled out by coaches and media members that have no clue what the teams on the other side of the state are doing. Using 1A as an example, anyone with half of a brain knew North White was not a top 10 team and they lose to 1 2 win Caston team in round 1. Let Knox use it as motivation, but they shouldn't need to.

And they've all played at least one other team in the sectional already.

That sectional if you just look at the records is pretty dang good. Every team is 6-3 or better.

Almost happened to Brownsburg after blowing out most everyone their schedule for the first 7 games, including FW Dwenger on the road. They go to Noblesville (1-6 in the HCC) and almost lose.

I think we might hear more about them when their semistate matchup vs. Laville comes around

Possibly by that over a span of a few seasons Penn might be able to adjust to the level of play and compete for higher positioning in the conference. Idk it all depends on some other variables.

I've always thought Penn would be a perfect fit in the HCC, across all sports....just way too far away. I'd agree that football wise they'd be right in the middle. Penn vs Noblesville would be a very interesting match-up, for a lot of reasons.

Here is what I will say about Snider, they always play to their competition. When it is really good, they usually match it or exceed it. 7-1 or 6-2 this year in the HCC, no doubt.

Cathedral put the mercy on Penn. The Irish had a 35-0 lead before a late Penn punt return against the Irish reserves. I guess win/loss numbers are all that counts for some.

The recent history for those schools is SR beats Linton four years in a row, loses year five, then has them replaced with Washington. HH replaces VL with MD (a big upgrade at the time), loses two years in a row, then replaces them with Mt. Vernon. I've never gotten an answer as to why either series ended. (SR v Linton, HH v MD) Both seamed to make sense from a schedule and competitive standpoint. In the new PAC most non-conference games are cross division. The only non-PAC games with 3a or larger schools are Washington vs Edgewood (4a) and Tell City vs Hancock County (3a if they were Indiana), and GS vs IMG acadamy.
