The official interpretation is “no.” So, if the cap comes off the runner, the ball remains alive. If it comes off another player, he can continue to participate without penalty. Think of it more like a towel, i.e., a legal accessory. If a player loses a cap, however, he has to come out to re-apply it. Or, he can play without.

I was told this is the only such rule in the Marion County publics. Why Streiff left long ago and why they've never had real traction in any sport besides tennis. They should be winning with similar frequency to Ben Davis and Warren in all sports with those numbers. If Coach Hart isn't in the school managing student athletes and test scores, he'll end up like the rest.

I wasn't able to go, but was told that MD basically ran the same three plays the whole scrimmage. I wouldn't put too much stock in scrimmage results, especially since MD doesn't.

I agree with you about the AC programs being available at BCSC elementary schools whereas they aren’t there in JCSC elementary schools. I wasn’t considering that in my original reply so I concede to you on that. I was strictly looking at it from a high school vs high school perspective. Given my background in education and my experiences with both school systems, I feel like I’m qualified to throw in my thoughts. I know both schools offer AP courses and both have students in C4 programs (although some travel may be required for JC kids in certain courses). The biggest difference between the two schools, though, is the clientele. I cannot overstate to you or anyone else how much of a role money plays into how well schools perform in the metrics. The more money your students’ families have the better they’re going to perform in school. I can tell you both schools have some great teachers who work very hard to ensure their students succeed. Unfortunately, the teachers at schools with a high poverty rate are going to struggle in comparison no matter how hard teachers try. It would be great if all students started at the same level development-wise and learned at the same rate. However, there are so many different levels students can start at and not all kids develop at the same rate. This is why the “No Child Left Behind Act” was one of biggest BS laws ever concocted and passed but I digress. I just want to make sure everyone understands that what the metrics are measuring isn’t reflective of the entire situation. There are some rare exceptions but, by and large, why do most schools outperform others in the metrics? As @Impartial_Observer stated, follow the money. That’s not an indictment of schools with richer clientele. More power to them. They’re not doing anything wrong. All I’m saying is that we need to consider the reasons for why some schools’ metrics are bad and not indict them for being bad (or lesser) schools.

With the closed conference schedule, not much to get worked up about with Sagarin until week 11 or 12. Perhaps one day there will be expansion and divisions, which means a chance to slide in some non-conference games.

I think I pulled an old rule. 18-1 Minimum Course Enrollment and Grades for Participation To be eligible scholastically, students must have received passing grades and earned credit at the end of their last Grading Period in School in at least Seventy percent (70%) of the maximum number of full credit subjects that a student can take and must be currently Enrolled in at least Seventy percent (70%) of the maximum number of full credit subjects that a student can take. a. The preceding notwithstanding, a student must have been Enrolled in a minimum of Four (4) full credit courses during the last Grading Period, and must be Enrolled in a minimum of Four (4) full credit subjects (or the equivalent) during the current Grading Period, unless a Block Four schedule is used, and then the student’s Enrollment must be in a minimum of Three (3) full credit courses. b. If grades reported at an Eligibility Certification Date include both Grading Period grades and semester grades, then semester grades take precedence for eligibility purposes. c. A student may use up to Two (2) semesters of the state-required physical education course for eligibility purposes, with each semester’s course counting as One (1) full credit. d. Physical education credit earned by participation on an athletic team, may not count toward academic eligibility. e. Class periods must meet Indiana Department of Education standards. f. In the event a School establishes minimum academic requirements which are greater than the IHSAA academic requirements, the IHSAA will consider those higher academic requirements to constitute the IHSAA academic requirements at such School, and will require that a student at that School meet those greater academic requirements before that student is eligible scholastically under this rule.

Students must be enrolled in at least five classes and maintain a minimum of a grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. So, let's say I have seven classes. History-C (2.0) Math-D (1.0) English-C (2.0) Social Studies-F (0) Choir-A (4.0) Advanced PE-A- (3.5) Art-B (3.0) 15.5/7 GPA is 2.21. I'm eligible. Of course, this simplifies it way down.

Paoli wins this one. They will miss Rominger, but I think they have to much fire power for a young Boonville Team. The option is a very hard offense to defend and with how much youth Boonville is going to have, I think it will be to much to handle. Pike wins this one in a close game. Clarksville struggled last year, but I think Pike start the season out with a win. Forest Park wins this one behind all their Seniors. They are going to be interesting to watch this year. They should make some noise in 1A Gibson Southern wins this one. I think it will be a good one to watch, but I think Gibson runs away with it late. Coach Hart knows how to close out games and will have his kids ready to go in week one. Heritage Hills wins this one. I have watched a lot of Heritage Hills this off season and they are great team with a lot of talent coming back. North Posey wins this one. They have their running back coming back for his forth season as a varsity running back. They will probably lean on him early and often this season to get them back to a state title game. Washington wins this one close. North Daviess has their running back coming back for what feels like his tenth season. North Daviess lost their QB from last year, so I think they will struggle early. Washington is going to be a sleeper in the PAC this year. I will be interested to see what they can do this season and into the post season. South Spencer wins this one. Tell city has the Terry boys. Enough said.

My experience with education is you get out of it what you put into it. My guess is results in the classroom are much more tied to home than whether you go to this special program at that special school. Larger schools by their very nature of being larger have more options to offer, across the board, education, extracurriculars, clubs, etc. As far as listing in all the magazines, follow the money.

Since we apparently like facts on here, because opinions aren't allowed, I dug up some info on this situation. Citing U.S News-Education, who ranks schools based on College Readiness, State Assesment Proficiency, State Assessment Performance, and graduation rate; Columbus North checks in at # 70. Jennings County checks in at #247. The other HHC schools. Floyd Central-#21 New Albany-#75 BNL-#123 Jeffersonville-#166 Seymour-#181 Columbus East-#234

Illinois has a 1.65 multiplier for all non-boundaried schools (e.g., private, parochial and charter), but waives it if a program hasn't won their equivalent of a sectional in, I think, the last four years.

North Central's lack of success in football has been a long, long-noted issue, but take note that Cathedral, Chatard, Heritage Christian, Park Tudor and Brebeuf are all in or just barely outside of Washington Township. LC has Heritage, Cathedral & Chatard in its backyard.

So Warren went out and got a RB, QB, and a S? Sounds like they're doing what they need to do to be what Ben Davis was last year. Yet another challenge the smaller schools have to face. Not only are these mega's massively larger than their competition, they are amping it up with transfers...........ouch! And here I thought Mike Kirschner was a good enough coach using the resources already given to him. If you can't win with x's and o's, might as well do it with the Jimmys and Joes.

Part of the problem today is kids are being pulled ina lot of different directions. If you spend all summer working on being a basketball, football, and baseball player you don't have time for anything else. Burnout sets in. 4A and below need plenty of multi-sport athletes to be successful and most pick one sport to play. Who could blame them? I'm going to sound like the out man at the end of the bar but in my day... we had weights three times a week with open gym once or twice a week. No tourneys, no "7on7", no weekends spent at camps. We had jobs and chased the girls. I wish kids could have a more normal high school experience as an athlete.

From what I've read elsewhere there is a desire for football, which is interesting considering Andrean (Diocese of Gary?) decided not to build a new campus in Crown Point and will remain at 5959 Broadway on the Merrillville / Gary border. Hammond Bishop Noll was never able to step up as a threat to Andrean in football. Perhaps Illiana Christian can. I would also think Illiana Christian developing a football program would make things worse for Lake Central.
