8 man football sounds like a great deal for those communities, see if you can build it back up and transition back into 11 man5 points

Not for me. I have two children in Catholic schools so I get the multi child discount and some parish assistance. We do get a significant amount from the Indiana Choice Scholarship program, but it’s nowhere near half the cost, and I am not by any measure in a higher income bracket. We pay a great deal out of our own pockets, but for us, it is well worth it.3 points

Like college, the cost to attend, tuition and fees, tends to be a set amount ... although that set amount might depend on whether you are a parishioner or in the diocese. What your net cost ends up being is tied to things like: vouchers ... whether you get one or not is tied to income level and size of family scholarships ... a decent portion of which, in many p/ps are need-based, so tied to income grants ... some of which are need-based, so tied to income parish/diocesan discounts ... some of these are tied to just being a parishioner while others might be tied to level of activity in the parish number of direct family members attending the school or in the school system donor payments - these are also sometimes need-based If the actual question is how many kids go to p/p for free, it's probably a smaller number than rumors might claim it is. From experience, albeit only in elementary school settings, we had just the parish discount and the number of kids in the system discount. This was before vouchers were a thing. So we ended up paying most of the sticker price.3 points

Why is everyone avoiding saying the reason Edinburgh doesn't have enough players?2 points

I'm rooting for BNL, and I think they'll win, but Monrovia has played a significantly better schedule than a "pretty decent lower class schedule" Top 3 2A Linton Top 10 2A Triton Central Top 10 3A Tri West Top 10 3A Indian Creek Top 3 3A Cascade 5-2 4A Beech Grove Top 20 4A BNL Of the bottom 3 classes, only Hamilton Heights has a sagarin rated tougher schedule. In 4A there are only 10 or so schedules rated tougher.2 points

How many State Championships did Rick Streiff win at North Central? Mark Haste? Kevin O'Shea? I'd say there are other things that must be at work there. But, that's just one example. Those are all fantastic football coaches.2 points

So why aren’t folks lining up to work at Arsenal Tech? Solid enrollment, decent facilities, Indy population center, etc. Why do they change coaches every 2-3 years? Why have they had a 3 winning seasons this century? Just can’t find their Eric Moore/Kevin Wright?1 point

Here's a hot take People who think it matters more than it does are just as dumb as people who think it doesn't matter. Its just one piece of a giant puzzle that determines success1 point

Tuition-wise, probably not much if they are both diocesan schools. Same thing with Reitz Memorial and Mater Dei in Evansville. Tuition is the same at both. Memorial probably has more funds available for needs-based grants, but otherwise they are pretty much identical.1 point

Some things are embarrassing, others not. If New Pal won ten in a row, that would be total respect and admiration. They do a good job of punching above their weight class. Carmel winning 39 straight with 5000 and thumping their chest about it is just arrogant. If Homestead had 5000 (hell, even 4000 kids, Carmel's swimming reign would be over. I'm sure there are some other programs that could say the same.1 point

IMHO a Coop arrangement is a better solution than 8-man "football".1 point

Coaching matters. The school we're discussing, Carmel, illustrates that. No clue what Herbert was doing the last several seasons, but says a lot when Kevin Wright comes rolling in off the street and reenergizes a team and program in a few short months.1 point

It was at Memorial....but not sure where that was played. I was there though on a fan bus as the Freshman Football running back and was more concerned with the female passengers on said bus LOL.1 point

I know it is a lot of pressure to put on a group - but if Brownstown isn't playing for a 2A State title this year (and in my opinion, lifting the trophy) I would be shocked. Coach May's resume speaks for itself, guy is an excellent Coach and his players are hungry for it. I know Linton is tough and I'm sure there are some Indy p/p's standing in the way, but I just can't imagine a scenario (barring injuries) that stands in Brownstown's way this year .1 point

Should be great weather for the rest of the Fall Fest now. Very quiet this week, although Sunday will get everyone churning with the tournament ping pongs.1 point

I hadn't thought of it, but that might also be a potential solution to a couple of the struggling programs down here too.1 point

I believe so, no surgury, hopefully this sunday is cleared but want Bears to be patient because I think he is key to 3rd down pressures1 point

I have no idea what options there were. I heard Easten Greene dropped them Week 1 also. We had to make changes to our schedule as well. Wish we would expand the conference to minimize the searching for games.1 point

And BTW, we were 5-1 against GS before any Lindauer or Combs ever set foot in the school, but I realize that in your mind Indiana HS football began in 2012.1 point

Personally, I'd like to see them at Luers and sit behind you three in the stands!1 point

I don't disagree on the law of diminishing return theory. The comments always seem to go to Carmel and their massive population. I get it. But people are also not acknowledging that Carmel has struggled the last 5 years. They haven't won a sectional in that period and have lost to schools much smaller. Numbers are part of the story....but hardly the entire story. I'd take a great coach and a great feeder system with Westfield numbers any day of the week.1 point

No, being the most recognized brand in the world is what makes one elite. You're only playing that card since your Wolverines won a couple of seasons ago, a very "down" year in terms of competition.1 point

We are allowed our opinions and perspectives and thank God we can agree to disagree. Let’s talk about it, especially when you say that football has “not a lot of real world value”. Does participation within a program that teaches them (youngsters youth thru high school) things like discipline, selflessness, commitment, ultimate team work amongst 33 pieces on Offense, Defense and Special Teams plus their coaches, managers, etc., sound like a good thing that provides world value? How about how to disagree and resolve conflict, how to stand up for what is right, how to have patience, how to love, how to have understanding, how to forgive, how to believe in oneself and others, to encourage, to demand excellence of the self and others, to lead, to persevere, to be special. I’ve only begun to scratch the surface of the true depth of what the greatest team game ever “real world value” is. Our football coaches, the true football coaches that are men and women of integrity and honor, take the responsibility of being a coach as serious as being a father because they know that most of society has lost that father of 4 that works hard and goes to church (very sad btw). So, someone in the village has to step up and help the parent or guardian that’s left guide that child to graduation and hopefully onward, so they can have a shot of becoming that impactful parent that deserves the millions of dollars and appreciation, but since that kid played football they won’t ask or care about it because of the values they learned from their coaches and the game. God bless our coaches that sacrifice their family time for others kids and may the impact they have be positive and long lasting. So that the values and lessons can begin to truly impact the real world. Yes, shoutout to all the guys doing great things outside of football and keep up the good work and doing by far the hardest job on the planet, being a good parent. Shoutout to the our football coaches as well who are raising their own kids and others.1 point

I think you're grossly underestimating Westfield while over estimating Crown Point. Westfield has far more talent than Crown Point. Outside of Gibbs Crown Point has taken a major step back in skill talent in comparison to the past 2 years.1 point

Same thing happened in our game: our Varsity O was up 41-0 after 1st Q, subbed out to JV (we literally have 17 Varsity guys of the 30 (down SR Lineman, down Freshman kid and another kid, so 33 is now 30) we have total, played JV rest of game, those 13 players on offense made up mostly Freshman, then had to deal with a varsity Defense selling out and blitzing 8 to 9 guys .... so it goes... however, they didn't punt multiple times in 1st Q..... then we punted they funmbled it at the 4 (4th Q) and we proceeded to kick FG on 4th down. They did sub out to their JV in late 4th, and after another turnover on downside inside their own 30, we scored with 2 mins to go with Freshman. Made it 51-0. Alomst was 58-0 when with 45 sec and running clock, they chose to continue to call timeouts, just to throw again..... we picked it off and ran it back 45 yards and got tackled at 2 yard line...... They were 3-28 passing for 15 yards on the game and only attempted I believe 1 run in the 1st Q, and mabye 2 runs entire game and 10 all game.0 points
