  1. I looked up Hamilton on Max Preps, what were his Varsity Stats at QB for LC last year? I will hang up and listen My point is in 2019, families choose all the time what they think is best for their kid. To sit back on here and make statements of something isn't right or "Smells funny" with zero knowledge is just wrong, but that is just me. If both schools sign off, who cares?

  2. Just noticed, Mitchell opens at Edgewood. After getting new red turf last year, Edgewood had another construction project over the summer. New home and visitors locker facilities. I can't recall whether they had already done a bleacher upgrade or if it was in the works. I know they've flipped home and away stands, so the visitors will now have to face the sun in the early season games. As an added bonus they have also added officials dressing in the new building, so we no longer have the long walk across the parking lot. Edgewood has made some massive facility upgrades the last two years, it looks awesome.

  4. As far as I know, Open Enrollment in terms of athletics applies only to student-athletes entering their 9th grade year. If student-athletes want to transfer, they must move or get approval from both schools for the transfer or appeal to the IHSAA for approval. I think most transfers like this are signed-off by both schools or due to a move. I don't know the situation behind this one. But it smells funny when a talented Jr or Sr athlete moves from a struggling program to a strong program.

  7. Can’t believe Week 1 is finally here! I want to wish all teams around the state good luck and injury free games all season long. As for week 1, what does Whiteland return? I felt like they were a senior laden team last year.. What should we expect out of them this year. I know the offense will be the same. As for East, they return a lot of players that either started or saw significant minutes as back ups last year. I’m looking forward to this season to see how East does and how they stack up against possibly a CG match up in the sectional.

  9. I was wondering the same thing about the people picking Eastern Greene after the dumpster fire offseason they had. Oh well that's why we have this forum. Opinions! that's why they play the games. Otherwise we could just have them ship the trophy to Campbellsburg and celebrate our undefeated season!! 😂

  11. My problem is that the schools decide. Some will always sign off while others will never sign off. The fact that this isn't a uniform rule across the state and is left to the hands of individual schools is bothersome in that similar circumstances are not treated similarly.

  12. Unfortunately doesn't seem like there are many posters from the NLC this year. Each year has felt like there have been fewer. Not a lot of in depth analysis behind my picks for this week: Concord @ SB St Joe : going with the Indians here. This has been a nice week 1 matchup for these programs the last 4 seasons, and I have to give the nod to St Joe at home. Should be a good game. East Noble @ Plymouth : This should also be a good game. East Noble is always a strong program, but I'll take the Barron boys winning the opener at the Rock Pile. Elk Memorial @ Elk Central : final battle for the Mangy Lion. I expect Memorial to hang around and be competitive in a handful of games this year, but they've only won this rivalry once in the last seven years. With @NRRaider2001 hyping up Central's offense, I'm picking the Blue Blazers. Goshen @ Fairfield : I'm starting to sense a theme that will follow all throughout my picks this week. I am not high on the Redhawks whatsoever, and heard some good things about Fairfield's performance against Bremen in their Jamboree. The Lions handled Goshen, while the Falcons version of "Bart Ball" gave Bremen some trouble on defense. Considering what Warsaw did to Goshen last year running the same/similar style, I'll go with a bit of an upset and Fairfield at home. Could be an ugly game. Huntington North @ Warsaw : The Tigers open up with a new opponent for the first time since 1996. After 22 straight years of the US 30 battle between Warsaw and Columbia city (in which they sported an 18-4 record), I believe over time Huntington North should prove to be a step up in competition for the Tigers in week 1. However, I do not think that year will be this year. Coach Prescott did a great job turning around the Peru program from an 0-10 first season to an 8-3 record in his penultimate season and should be able to do the same thing in Huntington. Expectations are high in Warsaw after last season's introduction of "Bart Ball", and I believe the Tigers win their season opener at home. Jimtown @ NorthWood : I could be wrong here, but I believe the Jimmies are projected to have a better year than their last two .500 seasons, while NorthWood has a lot to reload for what has been arguably the strongest program in the NLC the last 4 years. However, NorthWood has won 6 straight in this rivalry, including 2 consecutive shutouts of Jimtown. I'll go with the home team again until proven otherwise. Lakeland @ Wawasee : this one I do not feel quite as confident in, but I don't think either of these teams will be very good this year. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if a repeat performance of last year's 21 point victory occurred in favor of the Lakers, but I'll take Wawasee at home to kickoff the Coach Reutebuch tenure. Northridge @ SB Adams : another toss up honestly. I think this should be a good game, but I'll go with the team that has a D1 commit at QB, which also ends up being the home team. Best of luck to all NLC teams this week and throughout the season (except those weeks you line up against my Tigers 😉 )

  18. Gaddis is usually pretty straight forward. I thought in The Republic he had said he was impressed with how well the first practices had been and that they had been going pretty hard. I can see a few conditioning problems tho as kids are just coming back from summer break. Gaddis did say that nobody is starting both ways this year. While some are back ups that nobody would be starting on both ends of the ball.

  19. I'll be really interested to see how East comes out of the gate. I've heard that there are/were some conditioning issues with some key players, but hope it's been remedied (or wasn't true to begin with). I kind of remember Whiteland being senior heavy last year (and seemed like they were really big!). I won't be at the first game (my kid at East may go, so I may at least get a student's perspective on it), but am looking forward to this season!

  20. When it works we love it. But, week in and week out we have glitches. It's great to show kids on the iPad what happened, what they did, etc. as soon as they come off the field and to teach at halftime. Our frustration is we spend a lot of time each week rebooting, reconnecting, etc. to keep things running.

  23. Back in 2004 Dwenger played at Belmont. The referees did something different. They carried the ball over to the chains.... the odd thing they only did it for the home team. Belmont got a lot of first downs... they won the game too. We can just do that from now on...

  24. I guess it’s exciting there are now more Cathedral posters other than PHJ, WrestlingGuy, and myself.....yikes what a mess. I’ll admit I don’t follow the program as much as I used too, but a former teammate and friend who is on staff tells me the sophomore class is going to be special when it’s all said and done. As always with Cathedral, they play a loaded non-conference that should help come tourney time so long as they stay healthy which has proven costly more than once. Excited for the season to start.

  25. I like your style! Although with many of your predictions you are keeping games at one score difference, kind of like an Indy Star sportswriter that doesn't want to offend any readers! I think Cathedral will be a double digit winner as will Westfield and Decatur Central. Carmel should be 7 points better than Trinity. If Avon has rebuilt their offensive line then they "should" be a double digit winner. But, the brother thing might keep this one a tossup. I'll be in the dome Friday catching the double header. I'm hoping Fishers can get back to where they were when they won state a few years ago. Here's hoping to a closer outcome vs. NC. Nice to see someone from HCC country contributing in this forum. I enjoy reading your insights!

  28. Northridge/Northwood were at Rice Field tonight, up against Elkhart Central/Lakeland. Both NLC representatives looked good, however Central moved the ball well against Northwood starting D (mainly Brownlee). Northwood had a couple injuries, hopefully nothing serious. Northridge was moving the ball well against Central, however their 10 offensive plays got cut short from lightning, and I called it a night before I could see if they were able to finish the drive or handle Central/Brownlee's offense. Both NW/NR handled Lakeland with relative ease. I look for Brownlee to be one of the area's best running backs this year, but don't count out Northridges run game. We have a few returning backs with some serious talent, and added an out of state transfer from South Dakota that was a force on one of SD's top ranked teams.

  34. New Study Defending NYC’s Minimum Wage Law is Fake News: https://mises.org/wire/new-study-defending-nyc’s-minimum-wage-law-fake-news It went on to project further job losses based on industry survey data: As AEI's Mark Perry noted, "it usually takes an economic recession to cause year-over-year job losses at NYC's full-service restaurants." In related news, we’ve seen significant growth in automation in cities like New York, in part due to the increasing cost of labor. Once again we see policies passed in the name of helping workers end up just benefiting businesses that can afford the upfront cost of automation, explaining decisions like Amazon’s recent expansion of their cashier-less grocery stores. .... Minimum Wage and Youth Unemployment Lastly, left entirely unaddressed in the study is any attempt to measure the costs of minimum wage increases on those most vulnerable to its effects, such as young workers without resumes, and those who are re-entering the workforce. As politicians arbitrarily increase the minimum wage, these are the workers at greatest risk of being priced out of the market. As such, we’d expect to see higher unemployment rates for these workers. The data suggests that this is precisely what we see. In July, national youth unemployment (16-24 year olds) was at 8.5%. The most recent data I can find for New York City youth unemployment is from 2017, showing the city unemployment rate for 20-24 year-olds was at almost 16%. To try to get a better comparison, national youth unemployment in 2017 averaged at 9.3%. Still, the NYC data’s focus on 20-24 year-olds means that a true apples-for-apples comparison of 16-24 year-olds would likely result in a much higher unemployment rate given that, nationally, the unemployment rate for 16-19 year-olds is substantially higher than their (relative) elders. While the disproportionally high NYC youth unemployment rates may not be entirely driven by minimum wage laws, basic economic analysis would suggest it plays a significant role in what the Brookings Institute has described as a looming “urban youth unemployment crisis.” Naturally, cities are responding not by ending their intervention in labor markets, but by creating new government programs. With that, a new opportunity for a bad economic study has been created.
