  1. Congrats to the Frankfort Hot Dogs for having their first winning regular season (5-4) since 2009.

  2. Congrats to: 6A Westfield 5A runner up in 2013. 5A champion in 2016. Now a solid contender and the sagarin favorite in 6A to represent the north at Lucas Oil. Jake Gilbert is building a powerhouse program. They ran the table in the HCC including an OT win over the pre-season favorite Brownsburg. And it appears he’s doing it like Eric Moore, as football up and down the school system is very successful. 4A Mooresville Only an OT loss to 5A #2 Whiteland has kept them from being #1 or #2 in Sagarin 4A. After Mark Bless moved on to Avon the Pioneers suffered some lean years. Enter a proven winner in Mike Gillen. Only took 1 season to bring that talent back together and give the growing Morgan County town a power to follow. I also expect the 4A south semi-state to be the state champion. And that team will be Mooresville!

  3. It has taken many times thinking about posting this. My dad was my coach for many years. He was always harder on me than anyone else. He knew what the perception was of a dad coaching a son. It wasn't easy but it was worth it. Some of the old timers on here might remember him as HuskyWarrior. He passed away about a month ago and as I am preparing for our first round game this week I could not help but think of him. Those from Nobelsville, Warren Central, and Hamilton Heights might remember best. But if you ever went to a Bishop Dullaghan camp from 2000-2010 there is a good chance you met him coaching there. https://www.newsandtribune.com/sports/high-school-football-a-coach-called-dad/article_db7b826c-fed8-11ea-a4bc-af1810763fe0.html Also, I would like to thank the coaching community who reached out to me the week of his passing.

  4. Congrats to: 5A Whiteland (Darrin Fisher) who ended the season as #2 in 5A per Sagarin. My only thoughts are: (a) job well done; (b) sucks to be South in 5A with Cathedral (otherwise a likely Lucas Oil trip) and (c) Jet Sweep, Jet Sweep, Jet Sweep. 4A Roncalli (John Rodenberg) who ended the season as #2 in 4A per Sagarin. Between their coach (who has some modest experience with parochials) and their constant team improvement, I consider them the favorite to represent the South at LOS. In any event, I expect the 4A South Semi-State to be the State Championship....don’t let me down. 3A Mishawaka Marian (Mike Davidson) who ended the season as #2 in 3A per Sagarin. They compiled an undefeated season (7-0) against some of the best teams (All Classes) that North Central Indiana has to offer (Mishawaka, Penn.....freaking PENN!!!). It’s hard to be any more dominant as a 3A team (add that one of your late 70s State Championship team’s running backs stood for me post Butler U. in my wedding back in those long gone days...love the Knights...love Bill Baker). I invite anyone else to join in....but I thought these teams needed to be called out.

  5. I really hope that parents, students and fans follow the professionals and do all we can to assure that we make it through the playoffs. We need to wear our masks and distance ourselves from others as much as possible. It will be a shame if we have to curtail the playoffs because we got careless.

  6. Congrats to the Mustangs...the 2020 Unified Football State Champs. Congrats to all teams that made it through the season. Can't wait until 2021.

  7. Going to have to respectfully disagree with Trojan Dad on this one. True, Center Grove outgained Cathedral but they also had the ball for 10 minutes longer and ran 23 more plays (which obviously was their game plan from the start). However, the Irish D played lights out all night long. Steele had his moments but was never able to break one and Cathedral forced CG into many 3rd and longs and obvious passing down which you can tell isn't their style. But yes, hard-hitting game all around and another eventful game in this great series.

  8. To be honest neither team gift wrapped anything to the other. Both teams made great plays. No matter how many yards of offense for either team they both simply made plays. The pick 6 wasn't a walk in the park free shot to the endzone like you sometimes see when a team is backed up near the goal line. It was a 73 yard pick 6. Honestly CG had an opportunity to tie it and missed a FG. Then Cathedral had an opportunity to ice the game and didn't execute (regardless of the play call) and CG made a play. Then again Cathedral had CG in 3rd and 9 or 10 with about 36 seconds and again CG made a play hitting a 12 yard pass. I believe Cathedral got them in a 3rd and 1 too on the eventual TD pass (memory is faded I'm old). Regardless both teams played well enough to win. CG made the plays when it counted an won. Both are fantastic teams and gave it all they had (even though some thought they would be saving themselves for the playoffs). It was a classic hard hitting game. It lived up to the hype and while some thought there would be a lot of scoring it ended up being a Defensive slug fest. Cathedral 1 Offensive TD 1 Defensive TD, CG 2 Offensive TD's 1 FG.

  9. Similar to previous topics; keep your personal opinions (includes political views, conversations about politicians on the National, State, and local level; infection rate stats; mortality stats; and all the other nonsense that has shut down so many other topics this season) out of the conversation. Whether you think it is a good idea to do or not is irrelevant. Yes it is sad to see kids lose their season and careers end, but it is a reality and balancing act many schools are dealing with. As someone stated, let's avoid rumors. If there is a link, then please include it. Best of luck to everyone in the playoffs.

  10. Wanted to take a second and give some props to the Fairfield Falcons and their 8-0 undefeated regular season. Heck of a job by Coach Matt Thacker going 8-0 in his third season at Fairfield. After going 1-9 in each of previous coach Bob Miller's final seasons, the Falcons went 0-9 in Coach Thacker's first season in 2018. That season Fairfield only averaged 3 points per game on offense while giving up 55 points on defense. Last year saw improvement to the tune of a 6-6 record and a sectional championship appearance. This season, the offense has averaged 38 points per game while the defense is giving up just under 8 points per game. Look at the turn around in these final scores from 2018 to this year: Opponent 2018 2020 Point Differential West Noble 6-51, L 41-7, W +79 Angola 0-70, L 29-17, W +82 Garrett 0-44, L 36-7, W +73 Lakeland 6-62, L 42-0, W +98 Churubusco 8-62, L 24-6, W +72 Best of luck to Fairfield in a tough 2A sectional 35. They got a good draw with a first round home against a Central Noble team they defeated 32-6 in week 3, then a likely home game against Ft Wayne Bishop Luers in the semi-finals. More likely than not they would have to travel to Eastside for a sectional championship rematch, but I would anticipate a closer showing than last year's result.

  12. Here are the test national rankings; Center Grove is ranked 25th and Cathedral 29th according to Max Preps. Center Grove is ranked 14th and Cathedral 25th according to USA Today. It really good to see the state of Indiana, and the Indianapolis area, well represented in the national ranking!😎

  15. Cheers to the beginning of the playoffs - let’s hope each team stays healthy and avoids any cancellations. I believe Sectional 19 is one of the best in the state. Leo, Northridge, and East Noble are heavy favorites, but don’t sleep on NorthWood, Columbia City or Angola. Would not be surprised to see any of these six teams take home the Sectional 19 crown. Match ups I’m excited for week 1: Leo at Northridge and Columbia City at East Noble Leo at Northridge: Leo has proven to be a tough team for several years. This is one of their best teams they’ve had. Junior class is extremely talented (although what happened to #33 Mason Sheron??). They are strong defensively and offense is solid. Northridge is going to give them everything they have. They are a little banged up and coming off a tough loss vs a very good Mishawaka team. As an NLC fan, I’m hoping they learn from their mistakes and take Leo down the wire. My prediction — Leo scores at the end to make score look worse than it is: Leo 24, Northridge 14. Columbia City at East Noble: It’s never going to be an easy task to travel to the defending State Runner-Ups home turf. However, Columbia City has shown a ton of poise and is a sleeper in this Sectional. They will ride or die with their QB who has a great frame and big arm. Unfortunately the Eagles have a couple injuries which could let East Noble run loose. EN may have the biggest size in this sectional. From lineman to secondary they look and play tough. Their 24-0 loss to Leo is overshadowed by several costly turnovers and a couple key injuries (though Leo still would have won, IMO). Nonetheless, East Noble will pull away in this matchup: 28-14.

  17. I believe it's far more strict than SEC from what I have gathered so far but honestly I've been pretty busy this week and haven't been able to dig in deep on it just saw the headline that his rapid test became a positive test officially on Monday morning and they named his brother the acting head coach this week I do not believe they have something like the SEC where if he has three straight negative tests then he could go back on like Saban.

  21. With the regular season being over officially on the sub varsity level tomorrow, it's time to lock this one down. Thank you to all who contributed and kept us up to date. Being a part of a program that had to look for an alternative, it was great having this as a resource. Best of luck to all teams in the playoffs.

  27. Gonna be tough that's for sure. It sure doesn't help having some key defensive injuries going on, but then again most teams are probably banged up this time of year. I haven't seen Leo in person since our semi state run a few years back, but by all accounts it won't be an easy task Friday night. Reading the indiana high school football Facebook page, I think the picks are 28 to 2 picking Leo. Maybe that will provide some extra motivation for our boys. Even though it's a home game, there won't be a big home field advantage with only family allowed to attend. I think it'll be a 1 possession game, with us hopefully coming out on top. If our offense is in sync like the Concord game and defense plays like the Northwood game, we will be a tough team to beat.

  29. No doubt that, but it’s nice to see Fisher and his kids do well and get some acclaim. Over the years, I’ve felt they’ve been oft-overlooked. As to a Roncalli, they have come from a fairly dark place both institutionally and organizationally in a very short time and I certainly wouldn’t want to be playing them at this point. I, personally, still have some deep issue as to how the school and the Archdiocese have chose to handle themselves this last year (and, likely, going forward) but that doesn’t diminish what Rodenberg and his kids and coaches have done these past few months. They could very well end up hoisting blue this year. That said, I’m a fan of both Kirschner (and even more so of Mike Gillin and Bob Denton at Mooresville) and would be happy for any one of several 4A teams to come out of the South (including East Central who was a rival in my HS days). If I have any issue at all with Mt. Vernon, as a poor ol’ country kid from SE Indiana, it’s the whole “Geist” component (HSE “light”)...although I, admittedly, live there these days. That said, Mike Kirschner is a totally class guy and a heckuva coach. 4A is going to be really fun to watch this year.

  35. Bob, we can't debate or refute anything oldunclemark says because he knows all of this for a fact. I guess in all of my travels for 1A and 2A football over 30+ years, I haven't seen the same schools that he has, or had the same experiences. I guess I'll leave this debate up to you because I don't care to debate someone as closed-minded as OUM. Cheers! How many walk-ups does Tri Central get? Or Carroll, Clinton Prairie, etc...? I guess them city slickers don't realize how far out in the boonies some of these places are.

  38. DT - a mutual friend who was sitting in the stands (and no longer participates on the GID) has asked me to remind you that “maybe it was CG that almost gift-wrapped the game to Cathedral. The Irish had 183 yards of total offense with one scoring drive. Their other score was a gimme pick 6.” To paraphrase, he thinks you had somewhat selective memory and, as most always, he and his wife were sitting in the stands. He also commented that it was a classic hard-hitting game. Don’t kill the messenger. Or do....I’m ambivalent.

  40. That’s a good point and I think it has to do with Reitz not being the Reitz we’re accustomed to. I’m not necessarily proud to say it, but i don’t mind the Reitz faithful. They’re unlike any other SIAC fan base. When they’re having great seasons, those fans think they can take down any of the giants out there (CG, WC, Cathedral) it doesn’t matter. Personally I think it’s better for the SIAC when they’re at the top of their game. Every now and then you’ll see a Central, Memorial, or MD poster that’s drank too much of the punch and think they’re team is the best ever, but it’s not as common.

  41. Wonder if they could implement something like even-odd. First game seating in odd sections. second game seating in even sections with cleaning commencing in odd sections, and then odd sections for 3rd game. Haven't looked at the specifcs, but it would buy time for cleaning... and would only need one major cleaning during games, with the rest reserved for before and after the days' crowds.

  42. On to a new discussion.......Washington, Sullivan, North Knox and Mater Dei all roll in their openers! Southridge makes Mt. Vernon look very ordinary in their opener and win big. Posey has a running clock mid way thru the 2nd quarter! TC beats Linton-Stockton in a good matchup, but the Seniors of TC are too much! I'm not touching the last game. GS is on fire, especially the QB. The may have played their way into the favorite roll here (yes I said it and mean it), even though SR is undefeated. HH FINALLY had 99% of their team on the field last Friday. They still have some rust to knock off, but at least they had the same group that scrimmaged Jasper 10 weeks ago!! If is rainy, and wet who knows. It's gonna take a great effort by the Patriots along with a couple timely turnovers.

I promise, being a "booster" does not give you special treatment, however, we would absolutely take your $30 donation. I really do not see what exactly you are speaking of: Just a bunch of gray area mentions.... What is the exact issue you have:? Parke Heritage is or is not open? I do not know? Parke Heritage is or is not putting all thier sports kids in a bubble"? Again, know Idea ..... My issue with last week posts was the notion that a school such as Attica was purposelfully playing the "covid" card to avoid playing tougher competition. that was the issue. Pretty cut and dry. And lets see what exactly was done about it.... I steered the conversation away from that, nothing more, nothing less. No warnings, no suspensions, no PM's sent to @JohnnyFootball Very Senstive Morning for you OldBleacherfan.....

  46. Thanks for the info. I was mainly talking about the Central @ Jasper first round game. Dubois County (Jasper) has had 50% capacity (approx 2,500 fans) earlier in the year. Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties (where Central and 8 of 10 SIAC teams play) have had 500 or 750. For a team that can feed off a crowd, playing in front of large, vocal fan base can make emotions run higher than normal. It may not make a difference, but I was just wondering if it might.

  47. I was watching a video stream between LaVille and Culver. Not sure if many other HNAC people other than the LaVille followers have noticed this, but Coach Hostrawser's entire offensive starting line is two sophomores and three freshmen. Or at least thats what I saw. They also have a freshman QB, who has done just fine following the injury to one of the IMO better quarterbacks in the HNAC coming into this season. They also have another sophomore lined up at fullback. Some nice talent over the next couple of years. And, unless I miss my count - which is possible - I did see a freshman and four sophomores starting on defense. The senior class is talented and a hungry bunch of Lancers trying to lead the underclassmen. Both LaVille and Pioneer have to win first round games to foce a second rount contest at Lancer Field in the semifinal round of the state tournament, but let's get there first. Let the boys take care of business in the first round, then we can have those discussions about a Pioneer-LaVille match up. I, too, think it would be a good idea for the Pioneer-LaVille game to count in the HNAC standings. Would close the gap on the eight games that were missed during the regular season. Just some ramblings from_the_sidelines007 As always the game is better from_the_sidelines007
