As some of you know, my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer on December 9th 2019 (you all on john harrells really know this). She was declared cancer free in June after her stomach surgery...that only lasted a few months when she was diagnosed with stomach cancer again on November 23rd.. This time however it was far worse.. At first the Dr said she would only have a few months but by the time November 29th came, it was changed to a few days to few weeks. I saw my mother rapidly decline.. A woman that was very loving, caring, bull headed and spoke her mind (now you see where i get it from) started to lose physical strength but her spirit was still there. I couldn't be physically in the room the final week of her life but I talked to her on the phone, saw her through a window as well and on face time. She went through absolute hell and finally passed away on December 9th. 17 days shy of her 58th birthday. I am 33 years old and no longer have either parent (dad died when i was 14), i am an only child by birth (i had a half brother die due to miscarriage by my dads ex wife in 1975). So im asking you all.. If you have your parents still.. Give them a call.. If at family get togethers and its picture time. Take photos with them, or your significant other and children. I was one that wasn't for photos...and I only have 2 adult photos with my mom, taking almost 10 years apart. Her birthday is the day after xmas and 6 days before her and my step dads wedding anniversary. I will be stepping aside from the digest for a few weeks...because well this is hitting me very hard. My parents were my best friends (how many children could say that?). I hope everyone has a nice December. Ill be back by January or so Take care. Kreigh Hook.

TSG - I hate hearing people suffering like your mother had to, and it's gotta be tough especially right before Christmas. 58 is too young (IMHO). I've lost both of my parents. My father married my wife and I in 1988, then passed away 45 days later at 63. If you don't believe in divine intervention, so be it, but I do and knowing I would have never left home with my mother alone after Dad's passing, I know Mrs. Swordfish was sent my way for a purpose. My Mom passed last year at 92 after multiple strokes. She had a great long life and I just feel blessed that she was able to meet and be a part of my kid's lives. Buddy, you won't stop missing your parents. Not one day goes by that I don't think of both of my parents. And you probably feel pretty lost right now, but I will tell you this, it will get easier. You have to be thankful for the years you were able to spend with your mom, cherish the memories, remember the lessons she taught and steel yourself for the next pages to be written in your life. You and I will probably never see eye to eye politically, but from one human being to another, best wishes man.

Let me make clear once again that I voted for neither Trump nor Biden last month. I’m not a Republican or Democrat. But I am an American, which qualifies me to have an opinion on this subject. I think the time has come for Mr. Trump to recognize that his chances of getting the relief he wants are so infinitesimal that the harm being done by attempting to undermine the election results doesn’t justify further efforts. Time to think of the country first. Pack it in. Issue a bunch of pardons. Suck it up and be the bigger man. Then take a long vacation after Jan. 20.

Rack this post. I remember as a 17-year old, after my senior high school football "career" was over, being called up by a buddy on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to play in a pick-up game of football at our high school practice field. So I said sure, and when I arrived at the field realized we were going to be playing this pick-up game against a group of guys from a rival county high school. While we were literally drawing up plays in the dirt these guys were actually running formations & plays from their school playbook. The game was fun, tough, rowdy, we all got filthy dirty, and we laughed our heads off at times. I don't remember which side won and really don't care. I remember that pick-up game as vividly as I remember most of the other "real games" during my time in high school.

most of your post disqualify you from being taken seriously....Wilson is good but hes not Barry Sanders. Its 1A football...you might do a little research...Indiana has produced hundreds of shifty and speedy backs...he chose to attend CC and beat your ass...live with it.

5th grade is when we start. I know there are some that start much sooner. I don't think it is necessary. I think it may steer more kids away from football than to football if you start in say, 1st grade. We play flag through 4th grade and the objective is simply to make it fun so that they will want to play in 5th grade (tackle).

A note for those who don't know. Coaches have limited number of athletes they can nominate for all-state. It can be very difficult to narrow the list down. If your favorite player didn't make the team it can be for a number of reasons that range from being nominated in a LOADED position category, to being on a team with 4-5 other tremendous athletes. It's a difficult thing to do, and the meetings last hours.

Not really, no. I think it's fair to say that they have underperformed over the past two seasons, but they were in the finals in 2015 and 2017. Valpo just finished off their best three year run since Renn was lining up in the gun rifling it around the Region to Samardzija and company. Hate to lose three in a row to anyone, but that series hasn't always been one sided or anything. Wrong. Marian got their first win against Penn since 1973 this fall. Not a lot of games in that series, and even fewer competitive ones. Also, I don't know if I've ever see Penn take the ball from their opponent five times and lose. Congrats to Marian for overcoming that and getting the win, but I'm not staking a whole lot on that result. Sadly, yes. The series had gotten less one-sided since Mishawaka's breakthrough in 2009. Even more reason to ditch the NIC at this point. 0-1 is not a position the Kingsmen are used to occupying. Happy for the Elkhart merger and the coaching staff there. For both the kids in that program and the competition. This is at least partly true, but the same cannot be said at all for the teams in MIC or the HCC in that regard. Agreed. That's why they need to unhitch themselves from the NIC, preferably with Elkhart in tow. That offense has given Penn fits at times over the past 20 years, certainly. I don't think enough emphasis is put on the competitive advantage the MIC programs have gained through their association with each other. I think there's a reason that those schools have widened the gap between themselves and the rest of the state. It's not just because they have good athletes, that helps, but that the association between those schools has created layers of competition throughout those programs. Not just at the varsity level. I don't know if people realize how trivial a lot of the reps Penn kids, through no fault of their own,get in freshman and JV ball are. That's why I'm a proponent of them getting into the DAC. If a school goes 264-19 in a conference, they aren't getting much help at getting better.

Parent of a CC student/player here. Been lurking for a while and the OP doesn't know what he's talking about. Not at all at least as far as CCHS is concerned. I can tell you without hesitation, CC does zero recruiting for football or any other sport. Micah transferred to CC when Howe closed and we talked him into playing football. CC is not an athletics driven school - it's focused primarily on The Arts. Last season we were 6-5 with basically the same nucleus of players. Sure we added Micah and another kid from Brownsburg who didn't play until November because of transfer rules. But the core of this team started last year. We had an amazing season because we had a ton of seniors and a ton of excellent sophomores - most of whom came from our feeder school in Avon - another private school. I can tell you for sure there is no recruiting for football or any other sport happening. We don't have those resources. My son didn't even play football until 8th grade and he's in that sophomore class. Started all year, and last year when we had a lot of freshman. Next year will be a lot of rebuilding. CC should be good, but not like this year. Two years from now, though, we will be as good or maybe better than we were this year. All without one ounce of recruiting. Our coaches barely get paid. I'm telling you no one is being recruited to fill spots or anything like that. The whole program is supported by the parents as my bank account can attest. If you've ever physically been to the school you'd know this to be true. Our coach was fired because he was a running the team off and was about to lose the team after the Washington game. Our entire Sr. class was ready to walk over his inability to connect with the team. He demanded rather than earned trust and that just doesn't work for this generation. Our AD at the time let him go to save the season and possibly the program. That decision made everything possible. Coach Lyons did an exceptional job stepping in and the rest of the coaching staff were finally free to actually coach the boys. It all worked out. The state game was one of the best football games I've ever watched. I've watched it about 10 times now and I'm still amazed. Our team never quit - neither did SA. Those boys and coaches were an excellent group and a great team. We have nothing but respect for them. We won because we outlasted SA in an exhausting game....and they just couldn't stop Micah with our stellar O-line. That O-line is almost 100% back next year and will be very tough. Will be fun to see how our non-recruited players respond next year after graduating 12 seniors. Just wanted to set the record straight.

Tough year this year, but they were right on the cusp. Their regular season losses were to teams that had a combined record of 32-1, before the tournament and several of those loses were 4 points or less (Cathedral being the exception). Three of those teams made it to at least semi-state. No doubt eventual Ohio champion Cincinnati St. Xavier would have been a difficult game for Penn, had it been played. Their 2017 season was dominating, until hitting the BD buzzsaw in the Championship game. Penn will be back. Still haven't had a losing season in 48 years!

It would be good competition-wise, but that's a lot of long distance travel on school nights in potentially bad weather.

If the play is alive through the entire length of that clip, I am guessing Ball State got a penalty for players leaving the sideline. HOWEVER....prior to that, at about the 20 second point of the clip, number 24 throws the ball across the field. That was a forward pass, and the second one on that play. There is a flag that is thrown shortly after that. Based on your post in another topic, apparently the game ended there. So something I am missing was called, or there were no offsetting penalties. Edit: I missed this earlier, and just saw it.....Number 3 was hit while he had the ball, and his helmet came off. That means the play is dead; correct?

That is cool......speaking of which...COMPLETELY off the topic, but the age thing......something I learned just yesterday..... John Tyler was the 10th President of the United States. He was born in 1790. He had a grandson...yes, grandson, not great grandson, but grandson; who passed away September 26th of THIS year at 95. He has a younger brother that is still alive at age 91. Crazy right? I shared with my family because I thought we were unusual; well, yeah, ok, we ARE. But our generation is now in our 50's with the first couple turning 60 this year. Anyway, we had just one grandparent that was born in the 20th Century. and She was born in 03. Our grandfather on our mom's side was born in 1888. I still think that is a crazy amount of time for just two generations to span, but when I saw the blurb about Tyler's grandson, it blew me away. And yep, I did fact check it for accuracy. Ok, now back on topic. This is what happens when IU and Notre Dame are not playing on the same Saturday. :)

We worked one of their games this year. Both of those players were incredibly impressive. They seemed every bit as good as MIC players and were definitely big enough to play in the MIC. I figured they would do well in the 2A tournament because they didn't seem like your typical 2A program.

Any age is fine it’s just the practice that is over the top. Even in high school there are to many padded practices and tackling in practice. In college they don’t tackle in practice so why does high school?

I’m not in any hall of fame, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express one time. Had to fire the guy running the defense last year. He got his @ss kicked lol

Forest Park returns 7 starters on both sides of the ball. There is definitely some optimism of continuing to build on the last couple of years. I do feel that if the Rangers could get down to 1A (right on the cut line as the numbers look now), they could definitely compete for that 1A sectional title!

At Center Grove our youngest contact league is for 2nd graders but 1st graders are accepted if the parents prefer. Much of the fears posted above are unwarranted IF the league is properly run. The coaches, league officials, and referees need to be properly instructed and supervised and the equipment needs to be high quality. If you have those things in place you should have minimal problems. You will not have zero injuries. They happen. Yes, we should be worried about AAU type football teams and tournaments. I see rogue teams being formed and seeking players and my biggest concern is who the coaches are and what do they know. National championships for 8 year-olds is ridiculous. There is a team forming. now that is talking about playing January tournaments. That's a horrible idea. Play football during football season. I recently saw that our Jr. Trojans were ranked in the top 20 nationally for 11U. Seriously? Who does this kind of stuff? Do they honestly think their rankings are credible? Usually there are adults trying to profit from over-zealous parents but they've never approached us for anything.

I agree 100%. Kids today have no time just to go out and play without adult control. I think many of us remember the time where we met at the park, chose up sides and just played ball. Your technique may have been poor, but you learned how to get along with each other and problem solved issues. Doing this, I began a love for sports that kept me out of trouble. I did play organized sports as well, but there I just did what the coach said to do. I didn't have to think on my own. Having kids play unorganized sports gives them independence and sense of accomplishment. And most of all NO PARENT INTERFERENCE, except to call them home for dinner.

That Warren Central Classic went for a few years. I recall Evansville Reitz playing Birmingham Rice out of Michigan and Warren Central beat East St. Louis 70-50. It would be pretty interesting to see something like this again.

Just seems like a no-brainer to me...plus I think that Lafayette Jeff was sort of proven to be a paper tiger these last two seasons...they have problems of their own when it comes to scheduling. Jeff needs the DAC schools more than the alternative.
