Warsaw at Michigan City should be a good game up here in northern Indiana.

In my opinion, here's how I see the 4A top 10 after week 1: 1. Roncalli 2. Mooresville 3. Leo 4. Jasper 5. East Central 6. Evansville Memorial 7. East Noble 8. Chatard 9. Hobart 10. Northridge

After Columbus North beat Gibson Southern last year 48-6 can anyone really say they expected Gibson Southern to dominate Columbus North 43-20 this year? I am sure Gibson Southern fans though they could win but I doubt they expected that big of a difference in the score.

Believe me, I’m a BIG, BIG fan of GS (recruitin’ Catholics that they apparently MUST be to pull off that win) and am rooting for them to get their long-deserved blue rings - but check Guerin’s record v. Columbus North before you place that crown. CN is generally a win vs. the Circle City Conference 3A teams (4A Roncalli excepted).

Valid. They have their normal defensive line and linebacking crew that can rumble with most teams in the state. It's their secondary that's going to determine whether or not they play Cathedral for the state title...........or at least rumble with teams like North Side, Dwenger, Valpo, and Zionsville for that opportunity.

This is not something the officials track or enforce. I know the first answer is 6 quarters, but I'm not sure what they count as a quarter played. I believe at one time special teams didn't count but not sure if that's still true.

Tbh i figured dwenger could be 1 or 2..I know those cyo kids don't need bulletin boards yet figured they'd enjoy seeing their southern counterparts ranked a little higher than them. I wanted to have slight variation from ur poll to keep things interesting..being able to to remain spotless this year will be a tall task..

Finally getting a chance to post some reactions: Obviously - first in my mind is the Warsaw game. What an impressive win for the Tigers. After giving up a 65 yd TD run on the very first play of scrimmage, I thought "oh boy, here we go again" after having deja vu from last year that saw the Warsaw defense give up big play after big play. But after that, they settled down well on that side of the ball and had a number of times where they stopped Coffman once they were inside the 35 yard line. Obviously the 500+ yards of rushing was impressive for the Tigers, but I was extremely happy to see the defense play well. Speaking of defense... the Raiders left off right where they have always been under Coach Wogoman with a stout unit on that side of the ball. I do not know much about Adams, but starting off the season with a shutout on the road is a good statement. Then there were some barn burners with NorthWood winning 7-6 and Concord losing 12-7. I am a little surprised with both of those scores. I especially thought the Elkhart/Concord game would be a little more high scoring. It will be interesting to see how long it potentially takes those two teams to get going offensively. I expected Mishawaka to win the game against Marian and honestly was not very surprised by the final score. I think the Cavemen are the team to beat in the conference this year behind Fisher at QB. Obviously Marian lost a lot from a talented squad last season. Excited to see how they perform this week against Elkhart. Good on Goshen beating little brother Fairfield down the road. The Falcons lost a ton of production from last year's team that went 9-1, so this win is not as impressive as I think some others might think. The Redhawks should never lose to Fairfield IMO. Plymouth and Wawasee... not much to say here. Impressed that the Rockies at least were able to put up some points against East Noble. I think Tippy Valley will have a decent squad this year, but the Warriors losing 42-7 at home against the Vikings??? This week's game against West Noble might be their only chance to win a game this season.

Inflation is a real thing..... Actually we went up to Jasper for the scrimmage and I just figured they were charging us $6 because of all the Jasper/Heritage Hills hate that has went on for years.

As if these 60+ year old boomers couldn't afford to attend a H.S. game in the first place, now they get another cheap/free deal. With the cost put on the backs of the younger generations, of course. Ageism.

Down here in the SIAC it would be Mater Dei at Castle. Winner will sit on atop conferences with Jasper at 2-0. Second best would be North at Memorial. Loser goes to 0-2 and will have dreams of conference title shattered.

Not to step on your toes, but New Pal lost to Decatur Central 31-29. New Pal did try and kick a FG as time expired to win 32-31 and it was no good. I do agree it should be an interesting game between New Pal and Brebeuf.

I’ll never write off the Trojans. This group is faced with perhaps the most difficult schedule in the history of the Trojans. Whatever the result this year, I will never doubt their resolve or their commitment. I hope like heck the school maintains this level of schedule because I want to see even more kids at Chatard that welcome a Warren Central game just as much as they do a Cathedral or Roncalli game. This game is likely a dogfight the last 2 years with Sagarin giving Chatard the edge those 2 years. This year, the Trojans are huge underdogs…. I’m anticipating some major adjustments vs Warren Central….and some smoothing out in game play with all the new starters. No doubt Warren Central (with roughly 1,900 boys) will be much more talented (much like Merrillville last year) vs. a school with 300 or so boys (just to put these things in some perspective…). Err….can still say “boys” in this age of “self-identifying”?

Hamilton Heights now scheduled AT Bluffton. Game time TBD.

Yeah, I completely expect them to battle all season. I think they are replacing something like 9 starters on offense, all 5 olinemen, and 7 on D. Hell of a stretch to start your varsity career for most of these guys!

I had to check Harrells site to make sure this was a real matchup. boy oh boy…I’m going to root for Chatard because they are the only small school crazy enough to swing this big.

Gibson Southern is $5 but honestly, I was just thinking about how that price is truly too cheap in today’s game. I wouldn’t be shocked to see schools putting a $10 a ticket tag up. Inflation…cost of equipment and people’s time…we could definitely be paying more to the refs to help get away from the shortage of them.

Coaches are creatures of habit. Some don't like to play on Saturdays and some wouldn't want to play with less than a week's preparation to install a game plan. No idea what schemes Boonville or West Vigo run, but especially with nothing but scrimmage film available, I could see that perspective. It makes what North Knox and Rensselaer did last year - agree midweek to a game on Saturday and meet halfway - truly remarkable.

It seems the latest thing is for the students to bring talcum powder to the game, and when the team scores for the first time, they let loose a big cloud of white dust. Only thing is that the stuff hangs in the air and takes a while to dissipate. The Lake Central — Munster game was held up for 5 minutes Friday because visibility was so poor on the field. A word of warning: the IHSAA is very aware of this phenomenon. If your students do it, it will earn you a 15 yd. penalty right then, and your AD is going to get a call from Asst. Commissioner Faulkens that is going to get his work week off to a really lousy start.
