  2. Some really big time games this week in Northern Indiana. The best of those games in my opinion: #1 - Merrillville (6-0) at Valparaiso (6-0) : Huge game for the DAC in what is a defacto conference championship game with the winner most likely getting a share at worst. Also a game that was cancelled last year thanks to COVID19. The Pirates are 0-5 against the Vikings under Coach Seiss. #2 - FW Luers (6-0) at FW Dwenger (4-2) : Battle of the Bishops in Fort Wayne. Will the Knights continue to roll and hand the Saints their 3rd consecutive loss at home? Dwenger has won 5 straight against Luers and outscored the Knights 90-6 the last 2 seasons. #3 - Homestead (4-2) at FW Carroll (5-1) : Staying in the SAC, two underrated teams in class 6A if you ask me. The Chargers have won 5 straight after losing to Luers by 7 points in the opener, while the Spartan's two losses (to Luers and Snider) are by a combined 5 points. Homestead has won 7 straight games in this series, including a 70-41 shootout last year. #4 - Churubusco (4-2) at Central Noble (6-0) : How about some love for the Northeast Corner Conference? The Eagles are ranked in both polls currently, and the Cougars have started 6-0 for the first time since 2003. 1A 'Busco's losses are to 4A Columbia City and to 2A state ranked Eastside. Get the buggies ready in Albion! #5 - NorthWood (4-2) at Mishawaka (4-2) : A tale of two NLC teams going in different directions. The Panthers have won 3 straight games, and their losses were by a combined 4 points. Meanwhile the Cavemen have lost 2 of 3. Will NorthWood continue to streak? Or will Mishawaka right the ship?

  4. Watching film with two fish bowls of something cold is the only way to properly game plan. Gotta be careful though, too many and we get to straying off task. Next thing you know we're six in and have a first drive script suggestion consisting of the double tight wishbone, three statue of libertys, a hook and ladder, and the ol' hidden ball play. Again.

  6. Taking NOTHING away from Valpo as I think they can make a deep 5A run but if Merrillville wants anyone to take them seriously as a threat to represent the north in 6A, they not only need to win this contest, but do so convincingly. I have mentioned before that I love fresh blood at Lucas Oil and without a dog in the fight think it’d be pretty damn cool to see both Merrillville AND Valpo make the trip down I-65 on Thanksgiving weekend.

  8. https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/football-referees-trapped-in-locker-room-door-blocked-with-vending-machine-file-charges/ It is already hard enough to get officials. Sounds like an assistant coach and a couple of students may be the guilty party. I have had my share of "conversations" with umps and referees over the years but always left it on the field. There is no place in sports for this behavior.

  9. I would hope that a patient investigation is processed and those responsible are held up for all to see. As Bob said, high school officials do what they love for more than just money. We aren't perfect. Same goes for coaches and players. When I step on a campus, I expect civil behavior and a modicum of respect. I don't necessarily expect everyone to be happy with a call that goes against their side - but I expect civility (maybe even loud civility) LOL. I also don't expect anyone to encroach on the private space of the referees' locker room either. Echoing the sentiment of everyone else here ... "what are people thinking?"

  10. I'd asked about this situation before, and it is a convoluted mess, IMO. I would guess that Snider fans are (strangely) pulling for Homestead this week; Hoping to win out the rest of the way in order to get separation, and a clearer picture (head-to-head) with Luers on 10/15. Even a Luers stumble wouldn't change the implications of the Week 9 contest, if Homestead gets past Carroll.

  11. One thing I did not know until I looked into it for the post I made calling out top games in Northern Indiana this week was the fact that Coach Seiss is 0-5 againts Valpo since coming to Merrillville. Will this be the season his Pirates pull out the victory?

  12. No problem @Miner_Pride. Sometimes kind of nice to get in a "sniper shot" in a posting. But here's the weird thing about all this....He actually has a TWIN brother named Brent, GO FIGURE 😜

  13. I certainly respect Coach Fine. Long time readers of my posts know...my keyboard work produces terrible grammar and mispellings. This is obviously a case off hitting a B instead of a T and not proof-readings. Apologies to anyone offended... but locker room banter?? I hardly think. They had a lot more to worry about than me making a typing error!

  14. Best O-Line in Indiana History. 5 D1 players and 2 NFL guys on the '99 CHS OLine.

  17. I dont know about Seeger, but I heard over in parke county some of Bishop Sycamores biggest supporters are trying to jump ship halfway through the first semester. It seems like to me that if my local team was in first place in the WRC I would be loving life, but apparently that is not the case. I guess its not a fun time to be a Bishop Sycamore Wolfs employee/fan.

  19. BNL > Jeff > SC > FC or BNL > Seymour * > CE > FC *without our starting QB and Wing/Slot Can we apply the transitive property of its repeatable?

  20. Keep trying. He took up my suggestion on the LED down marker and that's been a game changer. He didn't bite on the Hi-Pod X31 though, so you might have better luck. BTW, we still up for Old Football Dad film study group tomorrow? We need to get our outline to coach before Thursday's walk through if we want our MV install implemented...

  22. Don’t forget about the 0-6 record so far in 2021. They are competitive in basketball and baseball (as is Frankfort, at least more so than in football historically). Can’t really say it’s cyclical when it’s been down for 15 years. Question would be the destination for the top 4. Too small for Mid State, too big for Wabash River, Western Indiana possibly, but they already have 12 teams. Indiana Crossroads might be a slight improvement, but not enough to move. Hoosier Athletic could be interesting. My thought is Crawfordsville (and probably Frankfort) really needs to evaluate where football fits in their landscape, or if those resources are better deployed elsewhere.

  23. Yep, Tipton fans are mostly turds. I remember the days when they played Frankfort and the FHS team bus got pelted with frozen hot dogs as it was leaving Tipton.

  24. How can you say west central is the worse team in Indiana when they have a win. Come on now you are just being mean.

  25. I do. State Law! I saw him live several times, first time was in '74. Loved his Night Moves album. I just love me some Bud better!

  26. We have been the second best team out of the south (or the best who had a heart breaker) too many times. I prefer to not look ahead. That said, you might be surprised at the proficiency of my film study......although I never seem to get an answer on my email suggestions to coach Hart, he is probably just busy. I can offer this video from our last game.

  27. Not me. Tecmo Bowl all the way, baby. Singletary. Walt. Dent. McMichael. Cap Boso. True Tecmo fans know the MVP of that Bears team... and it isn't any of the first four names. Plus, any more buttons than 'B' and 'A' make me choleric. Get off my lawn, random shapes.

  28. As a GS fan who has been on this forum since I was in high school at Gibson Southern over 10 years ago….I love this team but I can’t do this to myself again and look ahead GS has been a contender from the south every year since 2013…like every year…top 5 ranked and all…and we do this every year because we see the potential. I would love for GS to make it to LOS…especially since I’m traveling back to Indiana thanksgiving weekend….but let’s just take it a game at a time. Win Today! Never settle! I believe! It’s not about impacting the team it’s more about the fatigue of doing the same things over and over again for the past decade for GS. If the team is good enough to make it there, they will be there….barring an ice storm and a trip to indy

  29. Yep! The only meaningful rankings are those from downtown at LOS on Thanksgiving weekend.

  30. Ah yes. The classic “fans need to focus on one game at a time approach” as if it impacts the way the actual team playing in this Friday’s contest will perform. Its an internet message board dude. Nothing in here impacts the actual game. Now I will let you get back to your preparation for Mt. Vernon. Let us know how the film study goes.

  31. Free speech is free speech. But because you have the right to say something, doesn’t mean you should. There is such a thing as professionalism and decorum. A potty mouth is often a sign of a weak intellect, unable to muster effective arguments, and substituting with shock language instead. Good for Dakich for standing up for a high school coach. But the value of his message is lost in the furor over how he delivered it, defeating the purpose. He’s basically a self-indulgent jerk.

  32. Wow. That school needs to forfeit the season.... Once the game is over, its over. That's a criminal act....and the home school has to pay the price.

  33. Free speech is free speech. Just be willing to live with the consequences of your decisions is what I also told students at school and my kids.

  35. Have to agree with you on that. Defacing beautiful football fields with those ugly soccer lines is a horrible practice. I can almost guarantee NK has an advantage over the Reitz Bowl in the lighting department as well. My grandma's 78 Buick has brighter lights than the NW end of the Bowl.

  36. Free speech, my friend. Free speech. Note that I did not say there shouldn't be consequences to this particular free speech. That remains to be seen.
