  1. Never been a white wine/caviar type of guy. I'm more of a burger/brats individual who sprinkles in the occasional pre game keg stand.

  2. This post has now put me in the “contributor” stage! I have so many people to thank but such little time. First off I want to thank my mom. She’s always been a big inspiration and gave me the confidence I needed to reach for the stars. Now she doesn’t know anything about the GID but I’m sure she would be proud. Next I want to thank my wife and kids for giving me next to no time for anything…especially mowing the grass (one of my favorite past times). They played a crucial role in this achievement. Lastly I want to thank all the haters out there that said I couldn’t do it and made me even more determined to post. Go MD and the SIAC! America’s team needs to bring home the sectional crown once again.

  5. The old legends about the “Boone County Cougar”, were in no way an actual reference to a species of subfamily Felinae. You’d have had a better chance of spotting one at Ike & Jonsies back in the day.

  6. In 1977 my buddy "Rudy" Baker(say that slow) and I were sitting in his living room listening to this song when lightning struck a big Maple tree in front of his picture window about 20 feet away from us. He gave me the album, said he didn't like it. Biggest white ball of fire I've ever seen, even topped the magnesium fire we started at Indiana Gear Works in 1979 just to watch it burn. True story. I swear to God it is.

  8. First that’s just an ankle biter that a fire ass coaches wife would carry in her purse. 2nd and foremost if I bring a dog to a game it’s gonna be a badass dog like By-Tor and the Snowdogs. I gotta go

  9. Mountain Lions (Cougars) have now been spotted in Indiana, please don’t call the IHSAA if one happens to run across Amzie Miller Field! It probably feels safe from the lack of music coming from our speakers.

  10. This will be the 15th time these two teams have played in Coach Hart's 10 seasons at Gibson Southern. 11. Right, I get it. I know there's a smaller community over there, should've worded it a little differently lol. My main takeaway is that Essenhaus is our tourist spot where everyone goes to spend a fortune on over priced Amish looking stuff. The food is decent but pricey, yet people still flock there. We have some truly authentic Amish places that have amazing food and people, but not nearly as flashy. Im sure they have those types of places over their way as well. I second Evil Czech if you're looking for beer at a place you can't find everywhere else

  12. Leo fans coming to Northridge tomorrow before the game, for the Amish experience at Indianas largest restaurant, you'll want to get here early and visit Das Dutchman Essenhaus. If you can't make it before the game, 41 degrees north, Wedgewood Brewing Company, and Rullis Italian are all great options post game.

  16. I'm pretty sure this rule came about when @Donnie Bakerbrought his dog to one of the Parke Heritage games and told them it was a mascot woof and not a dog. I don't think they bought though. I think he needed something a little bigger.

  18. Not ME... This game has the "sneaky" dominance in the North that many have looked beyond in 2A. I honestly don't see either side as the winner. I just look for a fantastic HS game.

  21. Sometimes the player gets overlooked coming out of high school for whatever reasons then when they show what they can do at a mid-major level, they become a pretty sought-after recruit as a transfer. Whatever their perceived limitations might have been have either been overcome or proven to not be as important as they were once thought to be. Either way, if Steele has good success at Ball State, there will probably be opportunities for him to step up into a bigger program if he should desire to.

  22. I never saw it that way. It can be hard to get playing time on the big stage that is Purdue, IU, and the rest of the B1G when you're at a skill position. The MAC could be a good place for him, as their athletes do, in fact, get drafted. Case in point: Ben Roethlisberger (Miami--Oxford, OH). This hoss is out of here.

  25. Interestingly though, did you notice that this year's sectional finals included ZERO crews who worked the state championship last season. It looks like they were capped at 2 rounds in order to advance more "new sided" crews to a sectional championship contest. This opened up 6 spots for those "new crews" to advance. So while we all do have our complaints, little steps are being made in getting more "new crews" deeper into the tournament (albeit 1 more round which = zero more "experience" points). (editorial note: "new crews" for the purpose of this post = crews who have not ever worked a state championship before).

  26. I agree its not very common regarding sports. But academics its fairly common. Some kids may thrive better in different AP schools. I just give kudos to the parents to be able to do that. And probably a very well educated decision. Just a thought.

  27. Warsaw at Carroll..........Carroll is a well balanced team this year. With a defense that is drastically improved and an offense that can put some points on the board, I think Warsaw struggles this time around. It would be a devastating mistake for the Chargers to agree with me though. I'll take Carroll by 14 Snider at Dwenger..........Normally when these two rivals collide, the better team comes out on top. The underdog always makes it interesting though as I've seen games that were suppose to be blowouts turn into 3pt games. There's no doubt that Dwenger is the underdog in this one, but what happens when these two duke it out in the playoffs for the first time ever? The Saints will be ready. Dwenger by 3 Wayne at Mississinewa..........Most on here underestimated Wayne when they played Delta last week. Apparently they didn't learn anything. What I'm learning is that a 2-7 record in the SAC doesn't equate to a bad football team. Generals by 3 Eastside at Luers..........No result would shock me in this game. I wouldn't be surprised if Luers won by multiple scores. But I also wouldn't be totally shocked if the Knights are emptying their lockers after the game. Luers by 10

  29. I've been to Army games also at Notre Dame Stadium and it's always delightful to talk with, or to just speak to, the Cadets and the Midshipmen. They are always respectful. The stadium just seems a lot livelier when the Service Acadamies are there. Some just get too wound up with results when it comes to sports. Sometimes it's just nice to enjoy the atmosphere as much as the scoreboard.

  31. I attended St. Edward in Lakewood, OH for 3 years before moving to Indiana. Our mascot was an eagle. We actually had a live golden eagle, as private citizens couldn’t own a bald eagle. Used to fly it from one end of the gym to the other at home basketball games. Sort of like Air Force does with their falcon.

  33. It NOT a "call". Its' a PENALTY! As a fan, you can attach whatever moniker that you want to it, but if an infraction occurs.... It's the job of the officials to appropriately adjudicate the situation in an impartial fashion.

  34. Similar play changed momentum in the first Snider-Dwenger matchup. BD blocked the kick down 3 late and had momentum. The officials called roughing the holder and gave snider 1st and goal. It’s a good call, you just hate to see a game decided by a call of any kind.

  35. It's hard to tell what stays open late anymore because many restaurants are closing early due to lack of help now and don't stay open past 10, or even 8, even on a Friday/Saturday night. Evil Czech is a good suggestion but I believe their hours are only listed through 10 PM on the weekend. CJ's Pub in downtown South Bend has great burgers and is open until 3 AM but I'm not sure what time the grill closes down. With this being a home football weekend for Notre Dame, it's likely to be fairly busy on Friday night. The View is also a decent burger joint on the east side of the river and right across the way from all the new stuff in Howard Park. In MIshawaka, there is Hacienda which is where many people end up after football games. I've never been to this place before, but I have friends that like to go to The Smokestack Brew for live music on the weekends. I believe it's open until 2 AM. Phoenix Bar & Grill is a decent bar in downtown Mishawaka that's open late but I must confess I've only ever been there during lunch hours so I can't vouch for what it's like on the weekend. Up in the Toscana Park area there's a pizza place named Tony Sacco's that I think is open until midnight and Bar Louie that's open late. Going up further into Granger on 23, Barehands Brewery is open until midnight and is a good stop if you enjoy craft beer. Only other thing that comes to mind right now is Between the Buns in Osceola that's open late on the weekends.

  37. 1. Errr….thinking you already own “obnoxious” here. 2. I’d add “loathsome” if it wasn’t already reserved for Cathedral simply in general. 3. “Gushing” clearly belongs to PBJ. But he’s a bit elderly and I’m down with that. A Cathedral trifecta. Good for you guys. I’m an import to Indy post college and law school, btw. Growing up poor but honest I refused to allow my kids to be exposed to Cathedral. Chatard was an easy call. Do you really want to do this? Seriously, you tried to ban “Temptation”….are you misguided enough to actually believe the rest of us don’t detest you and Cathedral in general far more than any threat you would impose on “Temptation”. We tolerate you simply based on manners….but we all know you break every rule and flaunt it. What makes the rest of the Catholic schools most angry is that we get associated with it.
